"Ashland is laid back, but Hearsay is one of those places that makes you want to pull out your Friday-night finest. A sleek venue with a jazzy speakeasy vibe, Hearsay multitasks like a pro. Diners can unwind in the cool, deeply upholstered lounge during happy hour or dine swankily on Ora King salmon with fennel risotto in a grand piano-dominated dining room. Start with one of the restaurant’s cocktails, which often use culinary ingredients like lacto-fermented blueberries." - Susanne Robertson, Eater Staff

Hearsay was such a treat! It looks like it’s been around for quite some time. We were able to eat in back garden/patio area without reservations because we arrived close to 5pm but making reservations is highly recommended. The garden feels like a beautiful oasis. It’s such a pleasant spot to eat a yummy meal. The drinks all looked like they were prepared with a lot of love. The scallops, though small were delicious. All of our food was really good. We were pleasantly surprised by this sweet place.

Love this place. Great vibe..great cocktails. We never get past appetizers and cocktails because the apps are SO good, we just end up ordering several instead of a meal. Things that aren't so great: for being a well stocked bar, they don't have Khalua, also, the bottles (and clock) haven't been dusted in a while...the lighting on them makes it hard to ignore. Also, I wish they'd invest in better high chairs. Every time I've gone, I feel as if I'm going to fall through. It just feels like a soft cushion stapled taught to a wooden frame with no seat support. I always dread sitting on them... still, even those annoyances aren't enough to keep me away and I'll continue to show up ;)

It was a mid experience. The outdoor garden seating was nice. Our salads were over dressed, the scallops overcooked but a great sauce (not enough of it), and my halibut was over cooked and a very thin portion. His burger was great. We were kinda disappointed with Hearsay tbh.

Google
Everything was absolutely fabulous, Kimberly provided great service. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was on point delicious. We celebrated a birthday and anniversary. We definitely would recommend this restaurant.

Google
This is one of the finer attributes of Ashland. The atmosphere is fabulous... very pretty and friendly. Break food but the desserts are off the hook. The chocolate creme brulee was outstanding! Fresh made chocolate ice cream also filled a bill. This is worthwhile place to visit when you're in Ashland. 😎🎸

This beats any restaurant we have been to anywhere. The atmosphere was amazing, the staff was over the top...attentive, kind, wonderful service. The food was 2nd to none. We will definitely be back. Our server, Monya, was not only gorgeous on the outside but on the inside as well. We felt like we knew her for years! Thank you for a fabulous evening from start to finish!

Google
Really nice restaurant - good food, good service, absolutely amazing ambiance - the art deco interior, piano, artwork are extraordinary and make for an incredible setting. Beautiful garden that you can eat in as well - amazing setting. The biggest challenge (with this visit) is that we came at 5:30am on a show night at OSF - and they were extraordinarily busy - too many guests at the exact same with too few servers and too small a kitchen. I get that they want to get as many people in as possible but they have to sequence better and not let so many people come in at the same time. As a result our fish was overcooked, my daughter's hamburger had onions when we confirmed twice there would be no onions, and it took just a long long time to get our food. Not to mention it was extremely loud with the low ceilings indoors. We were there once on a non-show night and it was much better - more time to cook the food, more attention from the servers and as had a really great experience - but this time was a bit brutal - we barely made the show on time.

This was our first time visiting Heresay. We had reservations and our table was available right on time. The atmosphere was quite nice, and we ate on the outside patio. Our server was friendly and professional, but I think she must have bathed in patchouli. It was quite a turn off. All four of us ordered the cucumber coconut soup for a starter. I believe my companions enjoyed it more than I did. To me, it tasted like I was eating cold liquidy sun tan lotion. We all agreed that, for the menu offerings, the entrées were all overpriced. So, we simply ordered salads for our entrees. We ordered three different salads, and they all were tasty. Ashland has a lot of excellent eateries, so I think we will probably patronize others in the future.

Yelp
We loved the food and service, and plan to return often , especially during summer when we can dine outdoors.

Yelp
Heresay is Gayle's type of place with its comfort, subdued lighting, and a great take on her favorite Bombay Sapphire Martini. We sat at the bar and had just missed their 5-6 pm happy hour. The bartender who took care of us during our too short stay was great and fit right in to the Hearsay Vibe. After a huge (and late) burger lunch at Yak's on the 5 (Dunsmuir) on our drive up, we ate lightly. That was a cup of soup (and bread) for me and brussels sprouts for Gayle. She had enjoyed a nice glass of Chardonnay after her Martini, while I handled the evening with a single Stout and water. We were only in Ashland for 3 nights and didn't get a chance to return to Hearsay for a full dinner. But thanks to our Hearsay experience and the amazing OSF production of Macbeth, Gayle is already planning to be back later this season.

Yelp
We came here last night for a nice dinner while on vacation. We started with the Cauliflower because the menu says it is gluten free and my boyfriend has celiac disease so he cannot have any gluten. Our server was informed he has celiac as we ordered. After we had some, I asked the host again and she said it was not gluten free because it is in a shared fryer. BEWARE!! For someone with celiac, that makes it NOT gluten free!! We hope they take this as a learning opportunity because it puts someone's health in danger and ruins the evening. I was able to eat my salmon and it was good, but unfortunately the evening is not enjoyable when this occurs. They were apologetic and did not charge us for the meal.

Yelp
I continue to be amazed at how good the food is here !! Tonight we sat in the garden area and it was perfect. Lovely foliage and cute outdoor lights. The service continues to be so friendly. The cocktails are tasty too. And do not forget the dessert. YUM

Mindie M.

Yelp
Had the chilled asparagus soup and Chicken Milanese. All of it - delish! Great atmosphere and service as well.

Judith A.

Yelp
Beautiful setting, great friendly service, and absolutely FANTASTIC food, Highly recommended!

Lynn D.

Yelp
This restaurant is adorable! Great decor with art deco murals on the walls. It has a 1920's feel throughout which was so cute. The dinners they were serving looked delicious but we were there for after theater cocktails and dessert. The orange crème brûlée was amazing and the lemon mousse delicious. Port was a great accompaniment to the desserts. Service was fabulous even though we were close to closing when we arrived. Highly recommend.

Richard K.

Yelp
Amazing food, presentation, and service! Best meal we had in Ashland. Ate in the garden, ambiance was wonderful.

Alex S.

Yelp
Nestled next to the Oregon Cabaret Theater and only a stone's throw away from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, this is a perfect spot for a drink or a bite before the show! We called ahead and the hostess said she recommends arriving 6 or earlier to make it to an 8pm show. The service was a little on the slow side, so if you plan on doing dessert, get there even a bit earlier. The restaurant itself is beautifully and colorfully decorated. It's got something of a speakeasy/cabaret vibe. There's a piano in the middle of the dining room, so I assume they occasionally have live music. There was a full patio, so we were seated inside. There was a smaller, quieter crowd indoors. It looked like the same servers worked both sections. All of the food and the drinks were delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We had to skip dessert because it was taking a while for them to come back and take our order and we wanted to make sure we got to our show on time. I would eat here again, but would leave a little more time next time.

Yelp
Turning people away at 7pm because they don't have any staff? Not a good situation. I Like the wine list featuring local wineries featuring one of my favorites Argyle Brut. Menu has a small manageable feel. Handful of apps including seared scallops, pork belly, and buffalo cauliflower. Salads are seasonal and fresh. Mains include tenderloin, steelhead, burger, short rib, and something vegetarian. Bartenders are absolute wizards, and friendly. Ambiance is old school for sure almost like a speakeasy with retro paraphernalia from our grandparents prime. I like it. After turning on some charm, the hostess allowed me to eat at the bar as long as I agreed to be patient. All good. I decided to sample the libations and a couple appetizers and set a course from there. I'm glad I stayed. The seared scallops with green romesco, Aleppo oil, pickled shallots, and toasted walnuts was excellent. The scallops weren't colossal, but they were decent sized for an appetizer. The fried pork belly stole the show. Served on a bed of cabbage with jalapeño, citrus, and light asian vinaigrette. The belly had a perfect crispy exterior with an amazing tender texture inside that you could just pull apart. Really excellent. Staff are very friendly and Hearsay is about the only decent restaurant open on a a Monday in Ashland. Due to my own error in reading the menu I ordered two apps instead of an entree so that will have to wait for another visit of which I look forward to. Hopefully they'll seat me at a table.

Mike K.

Yelp
This is probably a 4.5 star but no such thing. Sat in the dining room because it was too warm to sit outside. Really a cool vibe. Cocktails were ok. Food and service were good. Tempo of service could have been a little better. Had the scallops and pork belly. Both were good. Pork belly was better. I felt the sear could have been a little better. I also felt both sauces, though flavorful, were a bit too saucy. Big bonus - server made a great call on a glass of wine and suggested a less expensive red instead of trying to up-sell me. I tasted both before ordering and she was spot on.

Yelp
The food and atmosphere was amazing! Drinks were also creative and delicious. The service is terribly slow; despite telling our server we had tickets to a show, we nearly didn't make it although we were seated 75 minutes before curtain. I had to chase down another server so we could pay our bill and get out of there. Go, but make sure you have nowhere else to go after. ADDITION: I looked everywhere in the website, and there is nothing there at all that mentions not reserving after 6 if going to a show. It would be good info to add!

Jack C.

Yelp
Strong 4 for sure. The beef was moist and tender and the mashed potatoes were t lumpy but it needed just something crunchy to go with it. Sauce was a little acidic with the wine but still glad I grabbed it on this visit. Service was good and everyone was very kind and the interior decor was pretty interesting. Def worth a visit if your first time in town.

Yelp
Fantastic, classy atmosphere, great food and service. Don't miss this place if you want to treat yourself to a nice dinner when you are in Ashland.

Yelp
As longtime patrons of Hearsay in Ashland, OR, we continue to be impressed by the consistently outstanding experience. The handcrafted cocktails are a highlight, offering a perfect blend of creativity and quality. The seasonally rotating menu keeps us excited, showcasing the chef's commitment to fresh, local ingredients. The addition of live piano music elevates the ambiance, creating a truly enjoyable dining atmosphere. Hearsay remains a cherished dining experience, truly our favorite Southern Oregon dining option.

Tom C.

Yelp
This got 2 stars because the food was excellent. Service was horrible, especially for a finer dining restaurant. Server only came to take order, never asked how the food was, if we wanted another drink, or anything at all. LONG waits between times that we'd even see our server. I feel bad for chef and owner, food was really good. But won't go back.

Nader A.

Yelp
Not their best showing but Hearsay has a lot to offer. Up-beat and friendly staff with a cool interior ambiance. Lovely outdoor patio/garden space for warm summer evenings. Well rounded menu, priced right with nice craft cocktails to match. As friendly as the staff were, service was slow af. Cocktails came out after our starters were nearly complete. The bread was nice and warm but came out after we'd finished our soup (pretty much with our salads which were our mains for the evening). The scallops were very tasty, as was the onion and leak soup. The pork belly was uninspired. We skipped mains and got the beet salad which was solid and refreshing. Looking around the restaurant, folks seemed really happy with their very nicely plated mains - so, I'll assume they were good. The story of the night was the 3 cast members from Twelfth Night (and other OSF plays) sitting behind us. Loudly discussing one of their mother's oral sex regiment, dildo manufacturing business and the daughters vibrator. What was amusing at first became and obnoxious conversation we seemingly couldn't escape!! I'd come back to Hearsay for the ambiance and generally tasty menu. Hopefully thr service was a fluke - I know everyone's struggling to get good help and enough of it. Proximity to OSF is another reason to dine here - makes for a very convenient dinner and show. Happy Dining...

Meg E.

Yelp
One of our favorites in Ashland. Classic drinks and speakeasy atmosphere is inviting, and the menu is excellent. Waitstaff is knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful.

Tracy D.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this restaurant. The ambience is a 10 and the subtle music from the live piano player takes it to a whole other level. Appetizer: The chicken liver pate is creamy and decadent. It was truly delectable. And the portion size was large enough to share with three people. Entree: The duck confit was perfection. First, the skin of the duck was perfectly salted and crispy, and I actually ate it! Which I rarely do. The quinoa served underneath the duck was really good and did not detract from the flavor of the duck. Their wine list is on the shorter side, but the selection includes really good wines. Note: they are known for their mixed drinks. Reservations are strongly suggested.

Dave F.

Yelp
Beautifully appointed, great service, excellent service. Awesome crème brûlée! King Salmon, beet salad and scallop entree also great!

JG T.

Yelp
Had a great birthday dinner in their dining room, wonderful ambiance with tasteful understated piano music, attentive service and excellent food (we had short rib & chicken Breast for entrees, beet salad & roasted cauliflower soup for appetizer, plus cocktails, all first rate). Great decor, great place for a celebratory meal.

Calvin N.

Yelp
If you're ever in Ashland, Hearsay is one of the restaurants you should check out! THE SERVICE Service was impeccable. Our host was very knowledgeable with all of their wines. Very friendly service! THE FOOD The Stealhead Coho Very flavorful especially with the crispy skin. Highly recommended. The Seared Scallops Just as tasty if you have a hankering for scallops. The salad was evenly dressed too! Note that they are open Thursday-Monday. Reservations highly recommended on theater days.

Jeff T.

Yelp
Food is great. Fantastic garden. Good service and location. Super fun. So glad this place is here in Ashland.

Melanie M.

Yelp
food was ok. I had chicken milanese, hubby had burger. service was ok. I would recommend asking for a table in the garden if weather permits. it's pretty nice out there

Janet W.

Yelp
Husband and I were in town for the weekend and wanted to go out for a nice dinner. Chose Hearsay and am so happy we did. Ambiance was great - cozy with live piano music. Food was outstanding. We split a Cesar salad and both ordered the beef tenderloin. Highly recommend. All-in-all a lovely spot for dinner. We'd definitely go back.

Branden S.

Yelp
Very nice place. Food and drinks were really good. The servers and other patrons didn't mind our baby going crazy at the dinner table. Someone was playing piano right behind us. We missed the parade and tree lighting but this place made up for some of it

Jeyda B.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The flavors are immaculate and so deep and rich. You can tell a lot of love goes into the food, the ambiance is really nice and class and the staff is super friendly. I ate multiple places in Ashland but this place was 5 star and my favorite of all the places I ate at. 10/10 need to try!!!

Lynne W.

Yelp
I have never ever had such good and I mean GOOD breaded cod then I did tonight!! It was 10/10. The goat cheese was out of this world and an awesome appetizer. Had no room for dessert but saw some delicious ones. Service was outstanding as well. The staff was excellent. The atmosphere was so peaceful. The bathrooms threw me for a minute. I was not used his/ hers bathrooms but they were very nice, clean and even had fresh flowers. We will definitely be back..

Alicia W.

Yelp
Exceptional cocktails and atmosphere! Although the inside is really cozy and has a fun vibe, the patio out back is pure magic. On warm summer nights there's nowhere else I'd rather be. String lights and water features create the most relaxing setting. The food is always great and full of flavor and there's always something for everyone. Not super kid friendly as the crowd usually seems a bit older but I have seen more well behaved older children do fine there.

Tiffany S.

Yelp
The ambiance is to die for. Incredible back patio where there is sometimes live music. Expensive but the quality matches the prices.

Jan D.

Yelp
Unbelievable experience at Hearsay's. First of all --sorta sorry we gave up drinking as this bar is to die for! The favor, baby grand piano and Jazz Muzak really set the stage for a fine dining experience! The food and service we perfect! Forgot to take food pics :(

Traci P.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing. I wish I could give it a better review but hard to when our drinks took over 15 minutes. Our server blamed the bartender, even though we saw our drinks sitting at the bar. Again the food amazing. Maybe we just had a server who was having an off night.

Lisa D.

Yelp
Amazing food and great service! Would definitely go again. It was too smoky to eat in the garden due to wild fires over when we were there in august, but the garden dining area was stunning.

Emily K.

Yelp
Wonderful food, ambiance, and service. Loved the piano player and garden. Will return for sure

Jason R.

Yelp
Wonderful establishment and the staff are all very nice and friendly. The kitchen staff delivered some great food.

Craig M.

Yelp
One of the best dinners we have had anywhere in US or Europe in the past couple of years. Sensational cuisine, great bar, excellent service and intimate stylish ambiance. Will be back the first night and maybe the second and third when we are back in Ashland!

DAVID G S.

Yelp
Liked the vibe of this place for sure. I had a wonderful dinner out on the patio. Scallops, salad, drink. Great place to go with people.

David P.

Yelp
Great dinner spot. Food and service was amazing. Loved the back patio and the dining areas was great as well.

Julie L.

Yelp
Great service wonderful food and a Piano player. Everyone was delightful. We had the scallops as an appetizer, and the Steelhead as the main Highly recommend

Cindy H.

Yelp
We visited Hearsay before a show in Ashland. What a treat! The owner was lovely and the bartender was very creative. My daughter had Love in the Mist, a bourbon elderberry drink. He also made a mean vodka martini. For dinner we enjoyed buffalo cauliflower and vegan ranch ( crispy and flavorable), cod wrapped in swiss chard and pastry over chickpeas, steelhead trout with fennel purée and truffle pasta with spinach and trumpet mushrooms. All were amazing. I would definitely recommend

Kathy B.

Yelp
We love the atmosphere here. It makes for a good venue for a date night. The service is always professional and on point. The food is okay. We are Vegans and haven't found much of a selection that works for us.

Debra S.

Yelp
Wonderful ambience with a great piano player. The food is very good, and the bartender makes a great Sidecar. Service is excellent. It's across from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, so very convenient for a pre-play dinner. Enjoy!

Dh L.

Yelp
A beutiful place...great staff and ambience plus a great menu...the best place in Ashland

Lisa A.

Yelp
They were out of many menu items. Small portions. Expensive. Definitely short staffed.

Ally K.

Yelp
Very flavorful, and the flavor has a depth to it. Not too salty. I liked the buffalo cauliflower. The duck leg confit, which I ordered, was not great- the rice was overcooked, and the sauce was too chocolate-y for me personally. But everything was quite tasty in its own right. I don't think it was my kind of restaurant, but it was a nice experience.

Brian P.

Yelp
Very tasty dishes here, I saw one of the servers at another place a few days prior, the vibe here was pretty nice as well!

Brianna C.

Yelp
Such good fun and a super fun atmosphere. It gives off speakeasy vibes. Love the seasonal rotating menus. 10/10 for me!

Nicole S.

Yelp
Only nice thing to say is that cocktail was super delicious. My drink was the best part of the entire meal. Goat cheese appetizer was good too, but frankly it went downhill from there. Food wasn't terrible, and neither was the service. Neither food for service was amazing, either. I'm disappointed for sure.

Patty P.

Yelp
Hearsay has a lovely and cozy atmosphere. We went on a Friday night and there was a wonderful piano player. The food and drinks were fabulous. I highly recommend it!

David H.

Yelp
Our experience here was just underwhelming. Nothing horrible, just dumb things like our pre-dinner cocktails arriving after the starters had already been finished. Somehow the brussel sprouts were dry on the outside, yet greasy. The fries that came with the steak frite were also greasy to the point that grease came out if you squeezed them between your fingers. Not egregious, but disappointing for the price.
