Turning people away at 7pm because they don't have any staff? Not a good situation. I Like the wine list featuring local wineries featuring one of my favorites Argyle Brut. Menu has a small manageable feel. Handful of apps including seared scallops, pork belly, and buffalo cauliflower. Salads are seasonal and fresh. Mains include tenderloin, steelhead, burger, short rib, and something vegetarian. Bartenders are absolute wizards, and friendly.
Ambiance is old school for sure almost like a speakeasy with retro paraphernalia from our grandparents prime. I like it.
After turning on some charm, the hostess allowed me to eat at the bar as long as I agreed to be patient. All good. I decided to sample the libations and a couple appetizers and set a course from there. I'm glad I stayed. The seared scallops with green romesco, Aleppo oil, pickled shallots, and toasted walnuts was excellent. The scallops weren't colossal, but they were decent sized for an appetizer. The fried pork belly stole the show. Served on a bed of cabbage with jalapeño, citrus, and light asian vinaigrette. The belly had a perfect crispy exterior with an amazing tender texture inside that you could just pull apart. Really excellent.
Staff are very friendly and Hearsay is about the only decent restaurant open on a a Monday in Ashland.
Due to my own error in reading the menu I ordered two apps instead of an entree so that will have to wait for another visit of which I look forward to. Hopefully they'll seat me at a table.
