My experience of "Hearth and Homes" at Hessle has been, in my opinion, very disappointing. Having spent over £1,150 on a gas fire from them I made the mistake of not taking out a five year insurance policy on it. Big mistake! It failed before 4 years old. It cost me, initially, over £400 trying to get it sorted. The H&H gas fitter came out once to fix it - but failed. An independent fitter also tried to fix it - and failed. After this I visited H&H once and a few weeks later 'phoned them, each time leaving messages asking for help. Weeks went by but no response was ever received. In the end I gave up and dealt with the manufacturer directly. They took the fire back, diagnosed the radio control unit had failed, and replaced it, at a further cost to me of £367. My experience has been that, once my item was out of guarantee, I found that I was "on my own". This has been an expensive lesson. £1,984 spent so far.
