13 Best Restaurants in Nevada City and Grass Valley

"A popular lunch and coffee spot for locals, the health-oriented Heartwood Eatery is perfect for people-watching while plotting your next art-residency-meets-retreat in Nevada City. The menu has all the Bay Area classics covered, including loaded avocado toasts, veggie bowls, and lavender lattes. At the Annex things get a little more hearty, with bahn mi, noodle bowls, and a selection of pork or chicken ramen and pho based on house-made bone broth, plus vegetarian options." - Flora Tsapovsky

On a trip to Nevada city, ca I was looking for a place for breakfast and good coffee. In my searches, Heartwood eatery popped up. The place looked so did the menu options. Saw some comments on their good coffee as well. We got the egg salad toast with Avocado, the California bowl and coffees. The egg salad was homemade and delicious so was the bowl. The coffee was great as well. The people were super friendly and loved the setting. Great way to start my day of exploring the area

I would say no matter the time you go to this establishment its going to be busy. Understandably so, because the food and vibes are great! The only reason why I do give this place a full 5 star is because the wait time in insane. You have to keep in mind it's a small business in the heart of Nevada City, CA. So getting a table is extremely hard. However you can always get your order to go like we did. And if a space frees up before your order gets called, have a seat! The coffee is rich and worth every penny. The service is great. Everyone we encountered that day was very sweet and genuine. Bathroom was really clean. I appreciated their attention and detail. Main dining area was also very cute and clean. The entire vibe is very much take care of yourself which I love. When you're done make sure you clear off your dirty dishes in designated area so they can turn tables over faster with having a small staff! Loved my Asian sesame chicken salad & Egg salad Sando with a cappuccino!

Went to Nevada City for the last Victorian Christmas of the year and decided to stop by Heartwood Eatery for lunch. First of all, the place was packed - as expected for an event this big. The menu had a variety of options, including vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free meals. I had their heartwood bowl with salmon and sauerkraut, an almond butter toast with seasonal blackberry jam, and a latte. Everything tasted amazing and the presentation was a big bonus. Despite a big crowd, food came out pretty quickly. I will say it was a tad on the pricey side (I paid $41), but considering the big portion sizes and the quality of everything I did not mind. Overall, it was a great experience, and I hope to come back the next time I'm visiting Nevada City.

Visited Oct. 17th..see receipt as always. Great eatery in Nevada City that opens at 10am. It's warm and cozy with alot of artwork on the wall. Large windows to enjoy the views. I ordered the avocado toast for breakfast on sourdough bread and it was presented beautifully and tasted great. My lavender honey latte was served in a large coffee cup and again had a nice presentation. The taste was creamy and I love anything with lavender! They also have an annex attached to the restaurant that offers more of a dinner menu with Ramen and other Asian infused dishes. It's a great location as you are in the heart of Nevada city where you can walk to all the shops and restaurants. My experience was great and the kitchen staff was friendly! I will definitely be back for a nice lavender honey latte!

Super delicious and healthy breakfast! We had two sourdough toast; one with smoked salmon, soft boiled eggs, and wonderfully dressed greens, and the other one with brown sugar BLT. The coffee was dark and strong. Super friendly service. Charming ambiance. Definitely coming back!

I came to Nevada City with my family and made sure to stop here based off the wonderful reviews. Here is my review - The food was SO good! I got an Avocado Toast with salmon added. Even though the sourdough was a bit burnt, the flavors and quantity of the food was filling and flavorful. The only downside was the price for service. The price was high for having to get your own food at the counter once ordered and clear your own plates. I don’t see a reason to tip, honestly. Lastly, the gal who took our order was incredibly rude. I’m not sure if it was because we were out of town, but the hospitality was absolutely not there. She was a bit older, side ponytail and gorgeous rings. I didn’t catch her name but her vibe definitely left an impression….

The cookies were delicious! However, while the food overall was fine, the service wasn’t very friendly, and I found a spider in my salad as I was eating. Not cool. :(

Service was really nice and sweet. They have a lot of great options and everything is fresh and house made! We really enjoyed most of our dishes and the fresh lemonade was tasty as well. Definitely a good spot for vegetarians/vegans!
