I was told by another barista to go check this place out. So glad we did. The coffee taste great. The staff was wonderful and friendly. We love the area driving to Heartwork Coffee.

Google
Found my new favorite coffee house. Made quickly by the competent staff who great you so kindly. The street seating and neighbors walking by is what makes the atmosphere a five star

Google
Yet another great cup of coffee at Heartwork! They always have friendly and fast service, with a genuine attitude and great feel for the neighborhood; whether you’re hanging out front or just passing through. The flavors are rich with some of the best beans and options across their menu.

Google
I had a fantastic morning coffee at Heartwork Coffee this morning, this is why you will love it too: 1. The coffee is delicious. I really enjoyed everything about it. From flavor to the temperature. They know what they are doing here. 2. Fast service! We got out coffee extremely fast, once again San Diego knows how to make a great cup of coffee quickly. 3. Super friendly staff. My interaction with everyone here was fantastic and enjoyable. The staff seems to care here. 4. Danny DeVito. Overall, I would give this place a try if you have never been here before. Check out my photos to get a sense of the space.

Google
I’ve really enjoyed heartwork coffee, I’ve been many times and first ordering a vanilla latter which was one of the best I’ve had, then trying other season drinks, like the cherry matcha which was also amazing. The cherry mocha was alright. Last time I went I ordered a vanilla latte and received a regular one but had already got in my car so was unable to go back. Overall great coffee would recommend.

Google
Amazing coffee. Amazing people. This shop is part of the heartbeat of Mission Hills. I’m also a huge fan of their iced coconut white tea on a hot day. Also a great social media follow for their weekend lineup of Dogs of Heartwork. Nothing but love coming out of this coffee shop.

Google
Excellent first experience! First of many. They were out of the Mexican chocolate but quickly updated me on what they had. I tried the vegan chocolate drink which was amazing

Google
Love this place, coffee is awesome always on point, baristas are friendly, I don’t mind if I struggle to find parking a bit, but the schedule is super limited

Yelp
I recommend the pour over with Guatemala beans and the GF banana bread, delicious! Will definitely come here again to try their other coffees.

Yelp
Came here late afternoon on Sunday. I was shocked at the new look of it. Last time I came was September 14th, 2019 with my dad. From my assumption, because of the 2 coffee roasters machines inside there was no more room for indoor seating. The door to get in...is for employees only, but they utilize it as the menu (nicely written). The prices are pretty good! You now walk up to the window to order. I do like that you can see into the space (seeing them make the drinks). They have a few tables for outdoor seating and some benches as well. Or you can take your coffee for a walk around the neighborhood. The workers are really kind! Last time, I got the Clark Griswold (I have no clue WHO that is) but this drink is flavored with Nutmeg + Nutella. At the time, I remembered it being a bit too strong (as in I'd prefer it sweeter) for me...but the flavors were good. I noticed that they have a veganized version of it on the menu as well! This time I went with an Iced 16 oz "The Dandy" which is Lavender + Honey Latte. This had a great honey flavor, but fell flat with the lavender (not prominent). 4/5. The price was really good though as it was $5.75! Would come back here again. Next time, I'd like to try a latte with their housemade vanilla syrup.

Yelp
Metered street parking here is a bit hit or miss. 7-10 minutes is enough time to get in and out usually depending on if there is a long line. Staff are friendly, awesome, and fast. They have some outdoor seating. I usually get the Dandy and the Clark Griswold. Got a Strawberry Matcha on my most recent visit. All of their drinks have been great in the years I visited here

Yelp
This is a decent coffee window in the area, but I got a cappucino and it tasted super burnt, and took a really long time. There's a few chairs on the sidewalk but it's a bit of a busy street and not the most comfortable. I appreciated the mural though!
google avatar

David Z.

Yelp
Great little coffee spot in Mission Hills. Very nice service. Coffee hit the spot just right. There are a few chairs outside if you want to sit down and take it easy for a couple of minutes.

Yelp
Best coffee I've had in SD so far. Loved the lavender iced coffee. As someone who enjoys coffee and is picky this is very good very authentic.

Alena L.

Yelp
Great coffee, great service. From Portland so I'm disappointed with 95% off coffee in other cities, but this was great! 10/10
google avatar

Cherese M.

Yelp
I love this coffee shop. They serve the Best coffee in all of San Diego. I also love all of the staff; we always have a good laugh. I go daily Monday - Friday before work.
google avatar

Jenn C.

Yelp
This is our current favorite roastery to pick up whole beans for making espresso at home. Heartwork knows what they're doing and local aficionados recognize the quality. If you're there for a drink, know that it's basically a pick up window and a few chairs, not really a place to go to sit with a group or to work on your laptop.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
I got the vanilla iced chai tea latter. It was fantastic. Parking was a little tricky but it's not at the fault of the coffee shop. My friends forgot a coconut drink and really enjoyed it. Everyone was super nice and friendly and welcoming. They have a few seats outside to sit and enjoy your coffee and treats. I would def go back.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
Delicious coffee bar where you can pick up a drink to go or sit at one of the outdoor garden table/chairs to sip and enjoy your coffee. I loved their beans, it is medium bodied and not acidic at all. I like how they have a wide variety of custom syrups that you can add to your drink. Price is very reasonable for its location and the baristas are really nice. A lovely little coffee bar for a weekend cup of coffee!

Yelp
My family and I discovered this little gem on our trip to San Diego. They have a simple coffee menu with a unique selection of accompaniments. The service was terrific as the gentleman who assisted me suggested the classic latte with the Clark Grisworld (Nutella & nutmeg) would be a great pairing. I recommend this shop if you're in town and are in need of a quick fix for some caffeine, quality coffee, and good vibes.

Yelp
I've been going to Heartwork since they opened in 2015. I lived in Mission Hills for years and remember when their shop used to be a closed down jewelry store. I remember watching the space slowly transform into a new business, and soon I realized it was going to be a coffee shop - what excellent good fortune to have an amazing craft coffee shop just a 5 min bike ride from my house! Once they opened, I started frequenting and fell in love with their incredible espresso. Their cappuccinos have a story to tell. They also have pastries available all the time which are local and delicious. During Covid, they restructured their business model and brought their roasting from a different location into their shop in Mission Hills. This changed the layout of their store and caused all seating to become outdoor seating. They now roast and create their coffee all in that sweet little space and guests are welcome to sit outside. I always seem to see the owner Sam when I'm in. He's so kind and always has a suggestion or something nice to say. He provides great service. It's so neat to see an owner be so hands on in the day to day operations My heart is with Heartwork. They are simply the best! Go check them out and support what is easily one of the best coffee shops in San Diego.

Yelp
Best iced matcha latte I've had in a looooong time. Friendly service & such a cute atmosphere. Can't wait to go back. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
I am a sucker for a craft latte. And I love this neighborhood cafe. It's a cute walk up window. Yummy honey lavender lattes (the dandy). Around the holidays they had a vanilla peppermint latte I was crazy about. Their pastries are yum as well.

Yelp
Heartwork Cafe At the time I was living in Mission Hills, so I could walk there. I lived right off goldfinch street and the heartwork cafe had just opened. I loved it from the start. And one of the favorite things I loved was that they sold home made pop-tarts or toaster oven pastries. Those were good! And I loved that they make a strong strong coffee. Very strong. So strong that I can get wired on a third a cup. And they sell packaged coffee beans. And really good lattes. Mmmm. Worth making the trip for. Several years and a pandemic later, I return from time to time, to visit my old neighborhood. The last visit last week, was my first since their remodel. It's all walk-up on the sidewalk now. Which I kind of like better. It was pretty crowded and cozy inside before and I think they got a lot of internet users who overstayed their cuppa Joe. So yes, I am still a fan. I didn't see the toaster pastries though. Even without them, it's still a solid 8 out of 10 for me. Atmosphere could be little nicer. But hey, don't take my word for it. Go and see for yourself.

Yelp
Late to this but had to come and leave a review. I love coming here. The location is great. It's located near to lots of nice restaurants & some cute little tiny shops. Vinyl shops & a little French shop down the street. The coffee is always amazing & the baristas are always so sweet. Been coming here for like two years now and it's still hits the same! Def come here if you're needing a new coffee spot! They don't have any indoor seating just so you know before you go :)
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Pretty good chai lattes, and the barista was very nice. Wish there was more seating outdoors but otherwise a good coffee shop!

Jonas I.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops on San Diego! Definitely a hidden gem in a sea of so many other coffee shops. If you're looking for actual craft coffee, with great service and some of the nicest people you will meet this is the place to go. They have a good amount of pastries for sale that you won't find elsewhere. There's a few outdoor seats, but the concept is definitely a fast casual coffee shop. We need more coffee shops like this around San Diego.
google avatar

Jenna O.

Yelp
This is a walk up window only, there is outside seating, but it is across from a fire station so I imagine it could have some issues of noise if there is any reason to call the department. The seating is limited and small tables, but you can see the espresso bar from outside and watch your drinks being made, I seen they have a roaster inside as well, no one was using it, so I couldn't ask many questions. They had only one cookie when I was there, and it wasn't that late in the day either, maybe 10 am? If it was there last food item that wouldn't be very convenient, especially so early. I got a cortado and a lavender lemonade. The cortado was mellow, and I had a hard time getting specific favor notes. The lavender lemonade on the other hand was fantastic, good portion of ice to drink, and I would definitely go back to get more because of how good. I didn't ask about all the alternatives but she did ask me if regular milk was ok, so I'm assuming they have options. My lemonade came with a sippy lid, but I was asked if I needed a straw (I declined) so I love that they had the option for either. The barista wasn't very talkative, I wish I could have talked to her a little more, but I'll try to go back another day when they are possibly roasting instead.

Yelp
Good morning, San Diego! Drove to Mission Hills to check out this coffee bar that got lots of reviews and great ratings. Love me a non-chain coffee bar. Due to Covid, you order behind glass. Pastries are displayed and a menu sits on a table. Easy to order. Apple Pay on the same table. Friendly service. Delicious looking original pastries. My kids and I tried the sausage, potato and cheese croissant and the sausage biscuit. Yum yum! Good strong coffee! Loved my cappuccino which they made as dry as they could using oat milk. Thank you, Heartwork!

Yelp
Great little coffee shop in Hillcrest. They still are only doing takeaway orders right now. I like that they have all their standard drinks (hot coffee, cold brew, lattes, etc.) and then you can choose to add different flavors at no additional cost. Service was also really friendly. I got the cold brew with the Dandy flavor (lavender and honey) and half sweet. It was delicious! The cold brew was really smooth, not acidic and the sweetness level was perfect for me. Lavender flavor wasn't overwhelming. They sell beans and a small assortment of pastries that looked yummy. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Review during time of Corona Drinks: - Matcha Latte - Amazing, recommend! - Cold Brew I've been coming to this place consistently, and it's always amazing. Great coffee spot. I missed going inside and reading/hanging out with friends, but great grab and go. Parking: Always a little difficult because the street parking spots are full nearby, but if you're willing to walk a block or two away, you can definitely find parking.
google avatar

Jaime C.

Yelp
Quaint little coffee window with some outdoor seating, they've got a great flat white with oatmilk and awesome service as well. I try and stop by any time I'm in mission hills
google avatar

Yelp
Great, friendly coffeehouse serving pour overs & standard drops from beans sourced by James Coffee Co. It's impossible not to feel the passion put into this place by its staff and owner along every step of the way. Nothing but quality and care are present between paying for the drinks and seeing the bottom of the cup. Iced latte: I ordered an Iced Clark Griswold latte, (16oz, $5.50). It contains Nutella & Nutmeg. The drink was perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. You can always ask for more sweetener if it's too strong. Pastries: I hear their pastries are phenomenal. I'll be giving them a try next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Very good coffee! And the service was quick and the server was kind. Will be back the next few days as my trip continues!
google avatar

Yelp
Heartwork is a great local company serving up great coffee, free smiles and mad vibes. They have large sized iced coffee drinks, which is nice to see, since sometimes a girl wants a 16oz cup of coffee without being judged. Their matcha lattes and tea varietals give you a little bit of everything to choose from. Check them out and support your local business.
google avatar

Diane S.

Yelp
Parking is horrible and the space is not crowd friendly. Too bad the monster construction is going on across the street RUINING the charming small town vibe that was Mission Hills! Its a shame the developers have no respect for these small businesses! Maybe one day they will move to another location because they serve very good espresso drinks!!
google avatar

Rey D.

Yelp
I was surprised seeing that master roaster DiedRich inside, it is a pretty small spot but they do everything in house which is good for nowadays espresso lovers, just like me when It is a roastery it means they know beans, I tried their latte and it is good, got the nutty cholatety flavor notes. Also it is in the center and corner in the heart of Hillcrest, damn good coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. Some of the best coffee I've had and their vanilla bean latte is my go to. Nothing fake here- all real good stuff. It's got that chic, busy city coffee shop feel which I love in the heart of Mission Hills. Service is great and fast.

H C.

Yelp
Come for the service, stay for the coffee. Heartwork has some of the nicest employees of coffee shops I've been to. They offer their own unique coffee variations with even a vegan/non dairy mocha option! The local pastries are delicious and coffee is high quality. Just good to know before hand that there is limited outdoor seating, but this is the perfect stop for a mid day pick me up or a coffee to grab and stroll around Hillcrest.

Cheyenne C.

Yelp
My friends introduced me to this place while I was down from North County and now I'm hooked. The staff is made up of the loveliest people who take great care of their customers and they all pay close attention to detail. Delicious and smooth espresso, you can't really go wrong with anything on their menu. Our city has some incredible coffee spots, but if you're looking for the most well-rounded, easy-going place with great service (and the best coffee smell in town), Heartwork takes the cake. I really hope the owner opens more locations!
google avatar

Natalia K.

Yelp
I've stopped by numerous times now and their coffee is always perfection. If you can snag a baked good with your coffee--even better! Plus their roasts are delicious, I highly recommend taking home a bag with you.

Yelp
** Matcha Only Review: Cute spot, cute artwork! I'd been meaning to try this spot after passing by it so many times, and it was one of the few places open first thing in the AM. Having said that, staff was fine, matcha was also fine. I'd come back with my coffee friends for the aesthetic and to see what they think for an updated review, but having made the move to matcha this past year I wouldn't recommend this place for that much. Kind of disappointed because again it's soooo cute!
google avatar

Meri D.

Yelp
Having driven by this coffee shop a bunch, I finally dropped in today. The inside has a small seating area and parking nearby was full in the back lot and street parking is the typical metered sidewalk parking that Mission Hills/Hillcrest has. The service from the staff was great and there was little to no wait which was nice. My *Affogato* was so pleasant and definitely impressed me! I love espresso and the ice cream they had was Vegan Vanilla which paired great. The hot espresso was perfect and it gave me the afternoon boost I needed on the hot day out. Also their *Iced Tea -Coconut Creme* was nourishing and just as good, yum. I loved both treats here!~
google avatar

Steph L.

Yelp
One of my top 5 fav coffee places in SD. Griswold is the best, amazing flavor. Friend gets the Dandy, if you like lavender (I dont) get this! He loves it and gets it every time. Parking sucks, metered spots, only two near the door, a few near the street but hard to get. Shop is very small inside, will sit only a handful of people.
google avatar

Helen K.

Yelp
No visit to San Diego is complete without visiting Heartwork Coffee. Delicious coffees. Roasted beans to take home, pastries and super friendly staff that seem to know most of their customers by name. Cute outdoor tables and lot of families, dogs and friends chilling and enjoying wonderful drinks in a vibrant neighborhood.
google avatar

Yesenia A.

Yelp
The girl working was so kind and she was a little busy and on her own but she was working hard and quickly as well. The cold brew was not my favorite, it was pretty bitter. But service was great
google avatar

Yelp
Was in town for the day from South OC and stopped by this rad little spot. Greeted by the friendliest of staff. I love coffee if all sorts. Was unsure of what I wanted so I let them order for me. My 3rd coffee of the day so I was up for a random vibe. She gave me some iced deliciousness. Can't remember what exactly but it was awesome. Also, the blueberry scone she recommended was the best I've ever had. Absolutely lights out. Only downside is I live too far to experience their delicious coffees and treats on the regular. 10/10 joint.

Yelp
They have Always have been so Kind to their Customers. Been a Customer Since 2015? & they Always Deliver. Please & Def. Support their Business. Their Quality Coffee & Care for People really makes this Shop Stick Out From the Others.

Yelp
Amazing cinnamon bun!- it's huge and I refuse to share. thanks to the barista who welcomed me at 7 am with fantastic recommendations Also had a cortado and milk steamer with a vanilla pump

Amy L.

Yelp
the coffee was decent but not worth the absolutely unnecessary reaction to me saying "this is my first time here, what do you recommend?" the man at the register took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes seemingly annoyed, and with a stressed out voice said something along the lines of "well there's a bunch of stuff so it depends what you like..." so I said okay never mind i'll just take an iced latte and felt annoying asking for a recommendation. I work as a barista and barely treat myself to new coffee shops so this was disappointing to receive this reaction instead of a simple suggestion or two.
google avatar

Yasaman J.

Yelp
The Heartwork Coffee bar is a local coffee shop that the baristas know the customers by name. Being my first time going there, I was pleasantly surprised that how busy this place gets and how efficient the service is in getting the line moving. I got the nutella latte along with the mixed berry muffin. My latte was delicious, I had asked for it being half sweet and it turned out perfect. The muffin was fresh and there was a burst of berry flavor in every bite. In my opinion there are only 2 strains of coffee shops: 1- The crazy busy ones that you can't seem to ever be in the state of relaxation while drinking your coffee. 2. The 'Lake Shrine' version of the coffee shops inwhich you feel relaxed and calm while drinking that perfect cup of coffee/tea. Luckily for you, in this part of SD, both of these extreme versions are available to you and they are only 10 mins apart! The good/busy one being Heartworks coffee shop and the pretty/ relaxing one being Kettle and Stone. So before you start driving, make sure to know what your mood is like so you can maximize your coffee pleasure!

Yelp
TINY SHOEBOX CAFE Must study. Must past exam. Must hide from the world. - cute place, very limited room - serves pastries and beverages - WiFi Pw: quicksand (all lowercase) Came in to get a beverage and spend a couple hours to be a cafe dweller and study. First thought, there's 5 people in the cafe... where the heck am I going to sit?! I managed to share the window pane with another. There's foot traffic from local neighborhood peeps stopping in with their dogs to get a beverage to go. HOT COCOA - nice foam art. Typical tasting hot cocoa, liked that it wasn't overly sweet or rich. But for $4, not worth that much for hot cocoa in my opinion. Their pastries look amazing. I'll need To come back and try them. Until the next review..

Tiyanna R.

Yelp
love visiting heartwork !! the staff is so friendly and helpful ! it's the perfect way to start my day!!! iced vanilla latte w oat milk all day ! yayuh

Brian A.

Yelp
Good coffee. Spotty, inconsistent service. One female barista is great, always friendly and attentive. All the other staff... not so much. My wife and I came by for our morning beverages recently and waited maybe 15 minutes for our coffee. Can get really busy I guess.

Yelp
I've been coming here for awhile and finally was motivated to do a review because of how the staff went above and beyond for me today. I tied my little dog up out front and was keeping an eye on her through the door, but when I turned around to place my order, she wiggled out of her harness and took off after a cupcake wrapper further down the sidewalk. The barista saw it happen, ran out, and scooped her up. Then they delivered my drink to me outside so I could wait with my sneaky dog and make sure she stayed out of trouble. This place is right by a busy intersection and my dog is not the smartest, so it could've been a much less happy ending. The staff is consistently friendly, patient, and helpful (not in an over-the-top fake customer service way, more like they're happy people who enjoy their work). I ordered a Clark Griswold with oat milk (due to lactose intolerance), and the cashier warned me that the drink would NOT be vegan and wanted to make sure that was ok. I really appreciated that she was knowledgable both about their products, and common dietary restrictions. I'm vegetarian (not vegan) and have had a lot of these "Is this vegetable soup vegetarian?" "Yes, there's no meat, only a little chicken broth, very low fat!" weird exchanges with servers where I end up not feeling comfortable eating ANYTHING from that establishment. It's good to know at Heartwork, vegetarians and vegans (and presumably the gluten-free folks) don't have to worry about being done dirty. I'm always happy with my drinks. They use good quality ingredients and everything is well-made. I like that their mochas aren't cloyingly sweet; at some places the mochas just taste like hot chocolate, and I LIKE hot chocolate, but if I'm paying extra for a mocha I better taste that espresso! I also like their solution to the plastic straw problem-- they've gone to the "sippy cup"-style lids for their cold drinks. Much better than a weird-tasting paper straw that mooshes closed when you're only halfway done with your drink.

Yelp
Best pour over we've ever tasted! We've Been to over 100 coffee shops all over California and this one is memorable! Too bad there is'nt a Heartwork Coffee near us. I had the Lavender latte, and my husband raved about his Columbian pour over. I had a swig and fell in love. Been back there 3 times since our first visit. Love this Place
google avatar

Yelp
Simple menu, but everything tastes great! Everyone's also very welcoming. Their lavender lemonade is great for hot summer days.
