"While Heath Ceramics is over 60 years old, having been founded in 1948 in Sausalito, their colorful bud vases, dinnerware and tiles have enjoyed a boom in recent years. Straddling the line between a rough, hand-crafted aesthetic and an elegant, understated quality, their pieces are hard to miss in the pages of design magazines as well as at the homes of some of your most tasteful friends. The new retail location on 18th Street includes a workshop alongside a café serving Blue Bottle coffee. There is also a smaller location in the Ferry Building."

"A true mid-century American icon, Heath has been producing beautiful modern and minimal tableware (with a brief break) and tiles since 1948. In fact, it's part of the permanent collections in New York's MoMA—and graces many a table across the Los Angeles restaurant scape. The store, like the products, is modern and minimal, with wooden shelves, concrete floors and a lot of space to browse. Besides the Heath line, they've selected a handful of designers to showcase. There are multiple locations in the SF area, including an outpost in the Ferry Building—the factory store in Sausalito offers seconds (i.e., subtly imperfect plates and bowls) at big discounts."

"This homeware brand, founded by Edith and Brian Heath in 1948, was bought by Robin Petravic and Catherine Bailey in 2003. Following intelligent expansion, they transferred their tile production to the Mission, where they also opened a retail space. Besides a homeware collection, the site also has a kitchen for demonstrations, work stations for custom orders, a newsstand and a coffee cart."

Heath Ceramics in San Francisco offers an amazing selection of locally made diningware. The designs are both elegant and timeless, with a wide variety of styles and colors to choose from. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted, and the quality is outstanding. Whether you’re looking for something simple or more artistic, they have something to suit every taste. If you’re in the city and love well-made, beautifully designed ceramics, this is a must-visit!

The Heath Ceramics Company is an awesome place to buy your quality plate ware. From coffee cups to plates, and everything in between, there is a wide range of beautiful and practically designed ceramics to choose from. Their color selection is sure to enhance any dining table they rest upon! Heath Ceramics in my experience had a very helpful and knowledgeable sales team at their showroom we visited in San Francisco. It’s a great experience to visit their main display room and also their must see tour of the making of their ceramics. The Company’s history is really interesting. We had the products delivered to our new home in Arizona in what seemed amazingly foolproof packing boxes. Much to our dismay a couple of the coffee mugs arrived with broken handles. The shipping company also just flat out lost one of the 10 packing boxes that Heath had shipped! This is really where Heath Ceramics shined as their customer service was beyond exceptional. They have a small yet extremely professional service department that communicates extremely well between its members. We worked specifically with Michael who immediately was able to replace and send new coffee mugs. He also tracked down very efficiently the shipping company’s error of our lost box of plates, and redelivered this one box 2 weeks later at a set day while I was in the process of moving! At the end of the day I now have super place settings that will brighten anyone’s day. I could not be happier and thank you to all at Heath Ceramics Company team for a great experience.

Google
Heath Ceramics recently provided me the best customer service I have ever experienced. Put it this way: We learned never to use rinse liquid on Heath dishes, and Heath stood 100% behind their quality guarantee. We are grateful to the store clerk who suggested we contact customer service, and a special shout out to Daniel from customer service for his generous response to our problem.

Amazing ceramic products, there are also some linens and cutting boards. Expensive! But beautiful. I wish I could spend $180 on a serving bowl. They also have cool lounge chairs for sale and ceramic shades lamps.

Love love love love Heath! The products are stunning, perfectly curated, and super high quality…. And with that comes cost. I’ve purchased a couple small things from Heath and they’ve tested time. So although expensive, definitely worth it.

Yelp
Short Story: Wow...one of the best high-end kitchen and home decor shops in SF! Long Story: I've been coming here off and on every few years to slowly but surely replace all the cookware items in my kitchen. I've bought their rim line of plates, bowls, and cups. I've also bought their coupe line of plates and bowls and finally their candles. Each purchase has always gone smoothly and the employees are very knowledgeable! At times are sales and discounts so be sure to sign up for their newsletter! Verdict: I'll be looking to get silverware soon!

Yelp
I've dropped a pretty penny at Heath. Their dishware style is mine. I love it. The sales are welcome. For the second consecutive year, I traded in plates for 20% off, and I'll probably go to Sausalito in October for discounted offerings. I wish mugs were included in the trade-in, which, btw, is an honorable community partnership. Staff at the San Francisco location know my face and name. I appreciate it.

Yelp
What a lovely shop. I have always been attracted to Heath Ceramic products. So sleek and sophisticated. I ordered a whole new dining set for my kitchen this year. I did most of my shopping online bc I live in Nevada. I always wanted to come check out one of the stores. I was on my way to visit my sister in SF, I went to pick up my order @ the mission shop. It was beautiful, clean and easy to shop for things. I was assisted by Kat. She was very knowledgeable about the products and customer service. I had 2 big heavy boxes, she walked them out to the car with me. I never knew buying some kitchen items can be such an experience! Thank you Kat for sharing your time with me. I love everything about this product and I look forward to getting more of the collections.

Yelp
First found out about Heath Ceramics years ago in a lovely restaurant in the Mission. I love how the entire plate looked with the food placed on this sturdy but aesthetically appealing plate. I remember lifting the plate and looking at the makers' mark on the bottom. From then on, more restaurants in SF used these plates and I recognize them because Heath Ceramics has a unique look. Their plates are a bit heavier than your standard plates and the colors are more earthy and have a lip. As much I love white plates, I feel Heath Ceramics plates and bowls are really above average. Also really like how this showroom is such a fun place to explore. The staff that works here are also incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Never knew about them prior to my visit to SF in December! While dining at Tartine Manufactory, I noted the iconic Rim line (formerly the Gourmet line created in 1961) by Heath Ceramics, and was thrilled to see that a location of Heath was in the same building! Staff there were courteous and helpful. They don't interrupt during your shopping and let you browse which is nice. I spent a long time wandering through the shop after breakfast at the Manufactory! (And dodge the rain.) Heath has an INCREDIBLE showroom kitchen there, with ceramics goodies on display, stunning tiles in all patterns and colours, and gorgeous textiles from around the world. Prices are moderate to high, but quality and beauty is great! I bought 2 of the Rim line dessert bowls to take home. And it's been such a joy to use them. After this first visit, I'm EXCITED to visit their studio store in Sausalito!

Yelp
Beautiful tableware, from Heath as well as other designers, along with jewelry, cookbooks, home accessories, furniture, and even tiles if you're considering a home renovation project. I've never considered buying high quality ceramic plates and bowls for everyday use, partly because of the price but mostly because they're heavy. I can be clumsy washing dishes and I don't have a dishwasher. But maybe someday I will splurge on a special bowl or platter. The showroom is pretty chill and a nice spot to get home decorating ideas. I did pick up a gardening book from their well-curated newsstand. Can't break that if I drop it! Staff are welcoming and will let you know they're there to help without being intrusive.

Yelp
Fair warning that Heath is out of my tax bracket, but I am an amateur, wannabe interior designer, so take that as you will :) Heath is a beautiful store selling a beautiful product. There is nothing like a heath ceramic tile or dinnerware, it's quality is amazing. When you first walk in, a friendly staff person will ask if you need any help. Chances are, you probably don't. But I appreciate that they entertain that I might be a serious buyer! Hopefully someday. Once you let them know you are just browsing, they really just let you explore the shop. There is no pressure to buy a 45 piece dining set, or consult about retiling your bathroom. The store itself is beautiful, and every product is stunning. Dinnerware is perfectly arranged to inspire interesting color combinations. Nothing feels so precious that you cannot touch. Holding a heath ceramic bowl in your hands is a truly world class experience. When your done with that, you can walk to their newsstand. Here you can buy some interesting and much more affordable gifts for your loved ones or yourself. Heath Ceramics is a wonderful place to kill 45 minutes. And I hope one day, for me, it's a wonderful place to kill thousands of dollars.

Yelp
Great space. Love browsing through the store. Book selections are nice. Great for inspirations or to get some ideas. Grab coffee and sift through their books or admire the workmanship and the artistry of their products. Beautiful space to sit and get inspired.

Yelp
I love my new blue coupe dinner plates and salad bowls. They look beautiful mixed in with my white dinnerware. The staff who helped me are so nice too!

Yelp
After years of supporting Heath, l am calling it quits! I have spent a small, or rather quite large, fortune here in the last decade, but in turn feel so demoralized and dehumanized by specific staff members who are not mature enough to understand the value of civility towards loyal clientele. Indeed, it used to be a welcoming environment until last year. Since then, l would get a sense of absolute dread as soon as l walked in the door. This is especially down to an older, (and a new hire in the last year) female employee in particular whose unpleasant demeanor was a major turning point for me. Adding insult to injury, the manager, Carole explained to me that she doesn't get involved and essentially lets the staff do whatever they want. Great! That overly carefree attitude cost Heath a client that most businesses would truly appreciate, but they could care less about. I just donated the entirety of my Heath collection, including priceless Tung Chiang pieces to charity. I honestly don't think they really care about loyalty as they have thousands of customers, so one less is nothing to them. What a shame. Thankfully, most businesses do appreciate a decade of loyalty and it is those businesses that l truly respect, something l gradually lost for Heath this past year.

Yelp
I can't really afford any of their normal stuff to use as normal stuff in my normal life, but in my childhood imagination of what it would be like to be an adult, I frequented places like Heath Ceramics and bought all their precious cookery and crockery and brought them home to my beautiful wife (think Stefanie Powers from Hart to Hart) and we went on luxurious vacations and solved mysteries and fought crime and helped the less fortunate with our rich-person largess and had two Golden Retrievers. Well, all of that is fake, obviously, but Heath is pretty much what I imagined it to be in the early 1980s, and it hangs on like my memories of Carmel from that time. It's really cool that the showroom is the factory is the store. OK, they're not identical, but they're not as separate from one another as you think they're going to be. They have neat community events with speakers and screenings and information, and the place feels like a part of the neighborhood even into the night. My adult San Francisco mentality really really really wants to hate it for its pretentiousness, but it's actually not pretentious. Some of its fans are, of course, and its clientele is probably mostly people whom I dislike and/or who are living proof that taxes are too low because they have all this money to throw around on all kinds of ridiculousness. But long-lasting, solid plates are better than gourmet restaurants for dogs, so Heath isn't the worst of San Francisco. Far from it. The store is really cool. Even if you can't afford most of anything, there's definitely something you can buy for that person who's difficult to shop for. Don't let my inner turmoil make you feel conflicted. Remember: That's my job. And it's still possible that I'll end up with two Golden Retrievers.

Yelp
I was looking for a serving dish for appetizers for my birthday party. I'm very happy I managed to find what I was looking for at Heath. We also have some blue mugs by them and they're very nice and dishwashable. Everyone in the store who greeted me today was very friendly. Will definitely go back to replace my old IKEA plates once I have budget!

Yelp
Beautiful hand made ceramics made locally with love. Is it expensive - yes. Is it beautiful and will make you drool - yes. Is it expensive - yes, again! But this is a work of art. An investment. For high quality ceramics, with non toxic clay, dish washer safe, oven safe, and used by some of the best restaurants in the Bay Area. The staff is very helpful. If you select a set of 3 or 5, you can get a 10% discount. And yes you can mix and match. One from the chez panisse collection, another from the tartine collection, you get the drift. We mixed and matched to add a pop of color to our dinner plate, salad plate and bowl set. Tip: They have high tables set aside for you to take your preferred items and to see it in better light, as opposed to looking at it on a shelf. A very helpful store associate helped check for defects in our 2 set investment, and wrapped each item individually. She even checked on the warranty (1 year, against manufacturing defects) aa long as it is unused and not put in a dishwasher. She recommended using a gentler seventh generation detergent, and washing it before first use. Overall a great experience. The way I justified the price is we pay $100 for a meal for 2 in SF, and forget about the meal in a week. The same investment for one set of beautiful ceramics will last us a lifetime (or several years). It's the pandemic, and eating on beautiful works of art may be one way to stay sane and weather on.

Yelp
The quality of the tile that took 16 weeks to arrive was dismal at best. Every box had a different dye lot, some tiles were 1/4" longer than others. This was clearly not "custom made to order". Overpriced Cali hippie shi*. Nearly $2,500.00 down the drain. Wouldn't install this crap in a McDonalds bathroom. Home Depot has better tile at .99$/sf . How is an installer supposed to work with this mess? Make a 3/4" grout joint? Get your head out of your as* Heath.

Yelp
Oh I know Heath. We met years ago when I thought Chinet was fine china. Back in the early 1980's, I had a dinner party where I served the food on the same Corelle set that I used in college. I probably got it on sale at Target. Luckily, Martha Stewart was not a guest, but I could well imagine in hindsight, the amount of small-mouth I would have received had I been acquainted with a classier group of friends. Based on the one friend I had who did have taste, I drove over to their Sausalito factory store to buy a set of ceramic dinnerware that I still own today. I had never been to the showroom store before since hell, I already have my Heath plates. I decided to visit since I was strolling in the area and was immediately swooning over all the ceramic tableware, glazed architectural tile, and even the decorative art pieces like the overweight cardinal (photo: http://bit.ly/2OlUSV7). At least I think it's an overweight cardinal. Although I have not partaken, they offer factory tours where you can see how the artisans in action, and they've opened an adjoining newsstand where you can buy actual design magazines (review: http://bit.ly/2Mw33MM). I think I can let go of my Corelle now. OK, maybe not. RELATED - Trying to find your inner decorator? Here's a list of places I've perused and reviewed: http://bit.ly/2OpI7sg

Yelp
Besides of Alcatraz escape, doggies in Golden Gates Park, Fantastic fountains, Giants uniforms, Hybrids at the Embarcadero, indie bookstores, Jibs on the Bay, Karl the fog, Locked-up Dutch bike, hot noodles in China town, Pacific Heights twins, Bart, Russian churches in the Richmond, SF treats, the Wharf, zigzagging on Lombard Street ( quotes from San Francisco ABCs), I could add Heath Ceramics in Mission District in SF. As a fan of Heath Ceramics after I got some dinner set from my friend lived in LA, I was so excited to visit this store while I traveled SF, listed it on itinerary. It was hot day of May 3years ago, the 18th street in Mission District reminded me of Art District in LA where lots of potholes, graffiti, representing the lots of pain, hurt, depressions. But this store was as bright as the full moon with a huge nice front door, industrial high ceiling, Tartine (bakery) manufactory, dinning area and a bar. The smell of fresh baked bread and this hip vibrant ceramics made me I came somewhere else I didn't belong. There's one set of Japanese tourists ahead of me, saying "so des ne, konichiwa, kawai", listening to their tour guide, as if they've never seen this beauty before. But I knew this very well, even I've waited standing in line with my friend for two hours, sipping some teas and cookies which the staffs spread out on the table, for the Thanksgiving 20% presale in LA location to buy only four salad plates and a small flower vase. But it was fun to visit to see the people hoarding and spending money like water. This store was more likely museum or tourist attraction than LA store, but huge selection of ceramics and other stuffs like tiles, silverware, tapestries, and nicest customer services, and once again there's bakery and restaurant with WiFi, lots of people enjoyed the bread pudding and croissants on this beautiful Heath Ceramics. In this pandemic era, locked-in at home, I miss SF and this Heath Ceramics together.

Yelp
Greeted by just about everyone working here, I found my first visit to Heath SF to be a friendly and accessible experience. We came in to do "the browse" before heading to Tartine Manufactory, and although we had been introduced to Heath at a friends house (she had redone her fireplace backsplash in a simple, modern Heath ceramic tile) we were still pleasantly surprised at all the options here. From ceramic tile for remodels, to furniture, to pillows and textiles to their gorgeous (and yes, astronomically priced) stonewear, to modern utensils, we were aesthetically inspired. They are doing many different collaborations with local Bay Area designers, including a partnership between Heath and a talented textile design team on their stonewear, and another interesting partnership between Heath and a local bag manufacturer that used a combination of leather and textile fabrics in their bag design. We will have to save our pennies to upgrade our kitchenware here, but until that special rainy day, we will have to satisfy ourselves with doing the browse at Heath, which will now be added to our design shopping circuit in San Francisco.

Yelp
I'm in the market for a complete re-fresh, as we just remodeled one of our kitchens. I'm going to purchase my dish and serving items from Heath. This is quality stuff! Just pick up a plate and you'll know what I mean. Yes, you will certainly pay, but you will get. This is not the flimsy, lightweight, low quality dishware you'd get at Target or an outlet mall. Life is too short to eat off of cheap plates everyday, right?!? You can enjoy la joie de vivre everytime you sit down at home for a meal, with a set from Heath. Staff was very helpful in making suggestions on the juxtaposition of various sets I was contemplating. Took their time without any sales pressure. Even if you're not ready to make a huge investment here today, come here just to peruse. It's a beautiful, colorful (literally) store. It makes me happy and stretches my imagination on what I can do to transform my space with just an addition of a few new pieces from Heath. Just visit...bet you won't want to leave without a purchase of some sort. Maybe a mug or candle holder? Be sure to sign up for one of their workshop tours held on Fridays at 2pm! I signed up today. Space fills up quickly.

Yelp
We have been wanted to get Heath dishes for years (possibly decades, actually). We finally did it yesterday, and the whole experience was fantastic. The showroom is beautiful, and the employees are lovely. We worked with Megan, who was a delight. We are so happy with our dishes - 12 sets (two plates and a bowl each) and lots of extra bowls :) We can't wait to go back and get more pieces in the coming years. Thank you!!

Yelp
You get kind of sucked into the hype about this place. The made in the USA & locally made aspects are where Heath Ceramics gets you to purchase very expensive plates and such. The cool glass windows that give you a glimpse into the factory and adds to the trendy atmosphere. The ceramic plates, bowls, cups, vases are extremely heavy. They have a nice simplicity to the designs. I'm not a huge fan of the unglazed, sandy edges to some of the pieces, but I was told that over time the sandy parts will smooth out. The cashier showed me an older mug that they keep pens in and it had a much smoother feel, almost grippy texture to it. I purchased a piece that's basically a bowl with a lid. I love keeping food hot, so this item is pretty good. It could be improved by adding some handles. I've put it in the dishwasher many times and it's held up so far. I'm just very afraid of dropping and breaking it. They sell some books, notepads, cutlery, vases, glassware, etc. from other manufacturers.

Jun C.

Yelp
In response to Carole's reply, mixing and matching is a rather expensive proposition as likely I would need to replace all the bowls with a different line instead of just one. Furthermore, how would I know if that line won't be archived later? I understand your limitation with resources. One suggestion is to systematically rotate different pieces from the Plaza Line out of archive, e.g. take dinner plates out of archive for a few months, then take the cereal bowls out, .... That way customers can replenish their pieces in time while you can keep your resource needs in check.

Yelp
My client just purchased 20K worth of Heath Tiles for her renovation. I am her project manager. She was told by the sales rep the 5K worth of 2"x 2" floor tiles came sheeted and that's what she ordered, based on verbal communications and someone who was supposed to be responsible and trusted. 3 months later the tiles arrived. The 2" x 2" tiles were not sheeted. The rep said (paraphrasing) "I would never recommend sheeted". Who, anyone please respond, would want their floor tiles installed 2" at a time? They offered a minor reimbursement, not nearly enough to cover the additional time for installation. Of course, no returns, but "perhaps you could sell them on Ebay". We just bought very similar tiles (sheeted) online for a fraction of the price. We had to, we would have blinded the installer. Shop elsewhere.

Yelp
WARNING: The whole place is really artsy fartsy if your allergic to that sort of thing be careful. I don't want you coming in and having some sort of reaction. Hope your good at parallel parking and got good parking karma. You will need both. You will also need some self discipline - your first instinct would be to buy everything in sight but at the end of the month your credit card bill would sting. Beautiful store. Was next door at blue bottle liked my Heath mug and decided to look at what the store here had to offer. First off you will be blown away by the variety. Yes mugs, plates and bowls as expected but also towels, blankets, light fixtures, tiles... and even soap. There are a few people working here which seemed like overkill but they were all great and of different personalities. Ask them anything... really good story time here. You can hear of the store's history, the artists... just ask. Well, I walked out with my mug. I was a bit bummed I couldn't get the exact same mug as next door - dark rough finish outside, white smooth finish inside but I got a cool new blue shade. No doubt it will make my mediocre coffee taste better at home for many years to come.

Yelp
Around the corner from Tartine Manufactory, so it was natural that former co-workers from Visual Merchandising would come as a looky-loos. Let's face it, prices are so out of range for most, and those that have it may not want to part with it here. It is a wonderful place to ogle & covet things that would be used to stage photos for Sunset or Architectectural Digest. I have to admit the subtle colors of their ceramics has always been a draw for me, but when I looked at the price of a small saucer, I was jolted back to reality. Don't even get me started on the beautiful cast iron cookware...

Yelp
I am supporter of local craft/design and a longtime customer of Heath Ceramics. I am someone involved with local home remodels fairly regularly and aware of how much planning, money, time and detail work needs to get done for it to work. About a year ago my mother was remodeling her kitchen and bought custom Heath Ceramics tiles. She was short one box worth of tile so we decided to go back to the store and visit Heath's representative, Lindsay S. in the tile area and re-order more. Misinformation was given to us about the tile by Lindsay S. and my mother was very upset, the correction was made by the floor manager but no apologies were given. Lindsay S. wasn't able to do basic math in order to order the tile. I swore I would never come back again. Fast forward a year later, working on another remodel with a larger budget and Lindsay S. is still working in the tile area of Heath and still has an attitude problem. This time I am with my husband and we are looking for a set of different tiles for multiple rooms, Lindsay S. ignores us and is doing her homework instead. And when we ask her tile questions and she gives flippant answers and generally unpleasant to be around. We decide we need to drive to the Sausalito store to get help with tile instead since the only day we could go was on a busy Saturday afternoon and the store was bustling. I fell in love with a "seconds" vase and asked to put it on hold as we proceed to shop for tile. Nothing felt right and the young woman helping us had never actually installed tile or done a remodel and her lack of experience made it difficult to get questions answered. We looked at tile for maybe an hour or two and decided to just buy the vase and leave. The older blond woman that was holding the vase for us, sold the vase! And then she proceeded to raise her voice at us about how it wasn't her responsibility to hold the vase. No apologies. Fireclay Tile is located in San Francisco's SOMA district and has more affordable, locally handmade ceramic tiles without any of the flaws in customer experience or pretentiousness. Fireclay had such a charming tile sales representatives, I didn't think twice on spending insane dollars on tile.

Yelp
The attitude at Heath Ceramics is indicative of what's wrong with SF. Initially I was drawn to the story of Heath, it's female founder, made in SF etc etc. went to showroom to purchase a wedding gift. I asked the salesman a Simple question (what other colors do these come in?) and was greeted with so much snark and pretentiousness. I was like--whoa. You're trying to sell me expensive pottery yet you're being an a ss? At that moment, I vowed never to buy Heath again. I ended up purchasing the West Elm knock off for a fraction of the price. Just looked up ceramic vases on their website. So easy. I suggest you do the same so as not to enable the pretentious privilege of these hacks. But if you don't want to support a big Corp, there are THOUSANDS of young pottery companies who would be GRATEFUL (not HATEFUL) to have your support. (Hi Etsy!)

Yelp
I am kind of person who don't care about tableware but I am so in love with their ceramic. I haven't bought any yet but I really enjoyed looking at all stuff here. I and my mom visited our relatives in Berkley and my mom knows this company and also we had lunch at Chez Panisse Cafe and they use Heath Ceramis. Every single stuff here is very nice and warm feelings when we touched and looked at them and also very very tiny bit different like the thickness of edge and coloring. Staffs are very friendly and helpful.

This review is not about the store, but their Chez Panisse line of plates and bowls we purchased over 5 years ago. The in-store purchase experience was very pleasant and I have no complaints there what so ever. Simply stated, I would not purchase their Chez Panisse line of plates and bowls again. At 2 pounds, 6 ounces EACH, they are heavy, heavy, heavy! (for a dinner for four people, you are lifting 10 pounds of plates from your wall mounted cabinet - that's WITHOUT any food on them). When stacking and moving them around it is a burden. Because each dinner plate is over 1 3/4 inches tall they do not stack in the dishwasher well and take far more space than flatter designs. As far as finish texture, smoothness and uniformity they are fine but most certainly not exceptional compared to other brands, even cheaper ones. I would have to say they are durable - but only because they're so thick and heavy. We passed on their other, thinner plates as we ate from them before and were very much put off by the horrible scraping sound coming from these rough surfaced plates. So if you think beauty actually can be combined with functional practicality and are not solely motivated by displaying your wealth to others, look elsewhere. These are not the plates for me.

Yelp
I will always remember the time I saw a heavily lacquered tree stump sitting there, to be purchased and sat on, for $8000. I even took a picture of it and the price tag to delight all the sane people I knew. But I'm not a hater. If you have the money to spend that on a tree stump, or $300 on a pillow, or cutting board, then good for you and may I come over for dinner? I bet you have great wine. There's these perfectly white and sparse, and somewhat alienating, kitchens in Kinfolk and Dwell. It's like the goal in life for people who have everything is to look like they have nothing. Just one modest and tasteful ceramic pitcher on a table. If you can't afford the kitchen, or the home around it, at least you can have the pitcher. Is that what the allure is? Being closer to the kind of person you'd like to be? I bought one wine glass made in Denmark and must say it improved the taste. I swirled it around, enjoying the light's play through the glass onto the dark purple elixir. The mark of expensive glass is its thinness, as it is more difficult to render thin glass than thick. The more difficult something is, the more expensive e.g. if you are a difficult person, you may go to a therapist, and maybe you're referred to a psychiatrist, well all this costs your employer and the insurance companies money. Good luck with everything, and if you have thoughts of suicide call your doctor immediately. Sorry the pillow didn't work.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stopped by this afternoon to look around because she's been taking pottery classes and wanted to see what ceramics look like when they're made by the hands of professionals. Needless to say, we were blown away by the craftsmanship of the pieces at Heath Ceramics. Even if you're not somebody who knows much (or anything) about ceramics, window shopping here gives you an opportunity to appreciate the hard work and dedication that folks put into their profession to deliver such flawless pieces. Would recommend stopping by! If you're hungry, go next door to Tartine Manufacturing for a pastry - super convenient.

Yelp
Since I'm not a richy I buy their Tartine line plates in pairs every time I get paid. But they're gorgeous! Soon I'll have a full heath ceramics set, probably mixed and matched but It makes my food so pretty!

Yelp
Beautifully-designed space with huge windows that allow maximum daylighting, so that everything is well lit. The shop offers a huge variety of things for you to browse upon. Not just ceramic products, but also books, magazines and small souvenirs.

Yelp
Heath ceramics is a San Francisco institution. Now they have added a beautiful space in the mission. You can two are both here in the mission or up in Sausalito at their original factory. There is great Focus on making sure the products are high-quality and the colors are beautiful. Of course this means everything is really expensive. This new space is amazing because there is a bluebottle coffee soon they will have a Tartine bakery they have art galleries and other creative spaces as well as the actual store and factory. It's an absolute feast for the eyes. They don't sell any discounted items here. You have to get the seconds and thirds up in Sausalito. Everything sold in the mission is of the highest quality and therefore not discounted. if you are interested in getting discounted heath ceramic products you need to go to Sausalito. The mission however is a much more creative and beautiful space. They have rotating are exhibits and lots of artists working inside the building. You will visit some of the studios on the tour as well as their art gallery which is called the boiler room. The room itself is a piece of art but they have rotating exhibits. Get on their mailing list if you are interested in attending many of their events. Nettie

Yelp
If you are in the mood and your bank account will allow you to throw down for some local cool ceramics that will remind you of chez panisse then stop by. The staff is warm but not pushy and tartine manifactuary is adjacent.

Yelp
This is an awesome SF experience and a great spot to pick up a gift or something for yourself! There are tours available where you get to take a peek into the process. Heath really produces amazing work, hence they've been around and highly popular for almost 70yrs! I love their beautiful tiles and newly released wallpaper. There's also a Blue Bottle coffee onsite & Tartine is opening soon, which will be a perfect spot to grab some bites before or after your visit.

Yelp
Gorgeous ceramics! I came with a friend just to peruse after lunch at Farmhouse Kitchen. Funny thing is, I remember being served a latte in a gorgeous mug at Contraband Coffee months ago, wondering where I could get one like it... the minute I picked up one of the mugs at Heath, I knew I had found it. Be warned, though - it's pricey.

Yelp
The SF Heath Ceramics Potrero Hill location is a must visit for any admirer of Heath Ceramics. It's their largest in the Bay Area and the home of their tile making manufacturing facility. There's a café that serves Blue Bottle coffee, places to sit and merchandise arranged in areas that look like the dining room, kitchen and living room. You can also look into the tile manufacturing area. The displays of their mid-century ceramic tableware and tile pieces are gorgeous and so are the pieces. Each piece was made by hand. You can find vases, pitchers, dishes, tea pots, creamers, sugar bowls and more. The dinnerware sets start at $80. The selection is better than their other locations. The non-Heath made merchandise they carry is elegant, foodie centric, and stylish, including glassware, jewelry, Lodge cast iron cookware, flatware, knives, cookbooks, candles, jams, greeting cards, etc. If you buy Heath pieces as gifts, I suggest tucking them into one of their cute signature canvas tote bags.

Yelp
Many years ago, I was served tea in a stunningly beautiful ceramic mug at a Chez Panisse dinner. On the outside, it was quite minimalist: just a uniform matte surface with no visible marks, aside from a subtle brand indentation on the bottom. There wasn't even a handle to hold onto. But the feel in your hands was beyond compare. It was like drinking out of ocean-polished stone. After getting home, I immediately hopped on Google to see who produced this incredible item. Heath Ceramics showed up, and soon I found the mug I was just drinking from -- for about $25! Now, I'm normally a very conservative shopper, and spending that kind of money for what was essentially a teacup felt absurd. But I knew this was one of those rare items I would regret not having around, and so I tightened my belt and paid for it. A year later, I bought myself another -- just to try out a lighter color. Then I got a few as gifts. Then an extra for myself. Now my house is teeming with these little works of art... and every time I pick one up, I feel my day getting a little better. Look, this stuff is expensive. But when it comes down to it, I've never once met another mug that felt so incredible to use, including artisanal $80+ stoneware at the local tea shops. And now, almost a decade after my first purchase, I'm happy to find Heath ceramics appearing in some of my favorite coffee shops, including Mazarine, Dandelion, and Contraband. Evidently, the quality speaks for itself! It's rare to find objects that bring you joy every time you handle them, day after day. The folks at Heath are experts at making these kinds of things, and I think you will find that you won't regret your purchase for a second.

Yelp
Heath Ceramics customer service is the best! As a treat to spruce up our quarantine dinners at home, we purchased some dinner napkins with the goal of supporting one of our favorite local brands. Unfortunately someone opened the package and stole the contents by the time we got the package but Heath was so supportive and replaced the order right away with absolutely no fuss. We always love visiting the shop and the news stand in person, and we are so happy to keep purchasing online and adding to our Heath collection during shelter-in-place.

Yelp
This location for Heath is such a beautiful space! Gorgeous. I'd come here to hang out, even if I didn't need to buy anything. When you first walk in, there is occasionally a florist pop-up that has an awesomely curated selection of flowers. To your left, is Blue Bottle Coffee (amazing). Every drink comes in a Heath mug! Then, to your right is Heath. Heath has a great selection of well, ceramics, cookbooks, and other great housewares. Everything feels so simple yet lush and decadent. If you can't afford the full price version of Heath, their Sausalito store has seconds. Heath makes such beautiful things...things that become keepsakes rather than the typical disposable ware. It's a great place to come for a little gift or a treat for yourself!

Yelp
From the moment I walked in, this place took my breath away. Near the entrance, there is a L-shape of cushioned seating to hang out and read (then purchase) some of the design or childrens books on display. The walls throughout the "store" are lined with beautiful ceramic pieces for purchase, mainly plates, bowls, and cups. Though on the pricey side, they are top-quality and flawlessly made. The staff members warmly welcome each patron when they walk into Heath Ceramics, educating them about the various pieces and answering their questions about anything related to ceramics. In addition to the displays of ceramic items, there are tile samples available for purchase, as well as classes you can sign up for. This place is just awesome, even if you just want to walk around and browse the beautiful artwork crafted in-house. I would love to see some of them being made!

Yelp
What a neat little place!! I follow someone on Instagram who is a fan of Heath so on our last visit, hubby and I decided to pay a visit. Based on the prices I've seen on the website, I already knew what to expect. We hopped on a bus directly after lunch and made our way to what first appeared to be a more working class neighborhood of SF. We walked towards our destination after the bus dropped us off and realized we were kind of in a pretty artsy fartsy neighborhood. After a quick stop in a British gift shop (located in someone's artist studio), we made our way to Heath. The place was bustling when we were there! Bonus points for coffee place attached to their store which was super cute and makes you want to buy everything until you realized just a few pieces would cost the same as your entire SF trip. (Ok, almost.) I walked out with a couple serving bowls and platters. When I told the dude ringing me up I was getting on an airplane in a couple hours, he very kindly made my purchases travel-ready, using as much newspaper and cardboard as humanly possible. We were able to stow them in our carry on's no problemo. I hope to build my collection slowly but surely - I just love their color palettes. The surrounding neighborhood is kind of neato too. And they're just a quick busride away !

Yelp
I managed to avoid Heath Ceramics on four earlier trips to SF, knowing that I wouldn't be able to resist buying something to add to my growing selection of ceramics at home. Finally on my most recent visit a friend too me for coffee right next door and then it seemed just wrong not to take a peak inside. Big mistake. Of course I fell in love with just about everything and insisted on buying a set of gorgeous blue glazed tea mugs to take home to Australia. I love the quality of the dishes from Heath and admire their dedication to high quality and slick design after so many years of production. Next time I'm in SF can someone accidentally take me for a coffee next door?
