Beef pho soup was ok beef wasn’t very tender , soup wasn’t as hot was we are used to. Generally the beef cooks in the broth. Asked for less noodles and lo and behold they were piled in. Pulled half out. They did bring the fresh basil, lime, bean sprouts. Sriracha, fish sauce ect. So all in all pretty good We also got the happy family, ordered zero spice, it came loaded with red pepper piece. Very spicy. That being said it was really delicious once we got acclimated to the spice level, we were sweating and got our sinuses cleared out. The pork dumplings were good, not as Warm as we are used too. But very good. Bobo tea was good. Also got the mango smoothie, aka fire extinguisher. Very good. Atmosphere is very plain. But clean Service was great.

Went to Heavenly Asian Cuisine & Lounge last night and the food was amazing! We got the bang bang shrimp as an appetizer, I got sesame chicken with steamed white rice, my boyfriend got the combination noodle bowl. All of it was great and the server was very friendly. Highly recommend!!

Google
Was looking for a place that had good Sichuan food in Des Moines. I also love supporting smaller businesses like this one. The food was great! It wasn’t traditional Sichuan peppercorn meals, but very good American-Chinese food. Vegetables and shrimp were super fresh and delicious. Cucumber salad was warm, which was unique. I’m used to cold cucumbers in chili oil. The steamed wontons were absolutely amazing! I could’ve ordered 3 pots of those! Thanks for the great meal. Highly recommend!

Best lunch special in WDM! Entrée, soup, crab Rangoon, egg roll! Delicious! Friendly! Fast! I’m a regular now! Lunch special every day 11 o’clock - 2:30. Happy hour all day Friday.

This is a gemstone hidden in a sea of polished glass. My first and definitely not my last visit to this establishment was one of the best Asian food experiences of my life. As a family outing we sampled a large portion of the menu and not a single bit was miss prepared. While the price is a little high for a weekly visit, it is perfectly priced for the quality you get. Staff is friendly. If I had to pick one negative, the chairs could use more padding. If that is the only negative I would say they did great. Update: Second Review, Customer Service is well above par, My Family had a wonderful time.

Google
On my short list for the visit to Des Moines. Heavenly showed up positive on the rating sites and I can see why. I am a sucker for dumplings. But good dumplings and these are very good I had the spicy shrimp dumplings and these pork Xian Bao steamed dumplings. These along with a citrus fruit tea with watermelon boba was a great lunch. There was about 8 things I wanted to try on their menu. If return to West Des Moineso will return to Heavenly.

This is located at the heart of the West Des Moines historic district with many quaint shops and businesses around. We stopped in for the first time during a visit in the area. The ambiance is very lovely yet filled with a modern charm! It's perfect for a date night, lunch get together, or a group meal. Every dish has its own unique character packed with an authentic flavor that has a modern tasty flair. So much to try on the menu, but so little room in my tummy 😍. Got to return for a sequel!

Google
The spice level is accurate so be careful! The ingredients all tasted very fresh and high quality. My only complaints are the fried rice wasn’t actually fried (it was plain steamed white rice with veggies and egg) and the sauce on my dish was a little too sweet. But overall, everything was tasty and a good value, especially if you’re feeling like Chinese food but don’t feel like something heavy or greasy.

Yelp
Great service. Food was fantastic, and arrived promptly. My husband tried the flat crispy noodle dish for the first time and loved it. It definitely had some spice which he asked for. Green beans and tofu were cooked to perfection. We'll be back!

Yelp
Very very good! I've never tried Phò before, so I wanted to try it for the first time as authentic as we, living in the middle of Iowa. Our server was so kind and helpful, making sure our orders were correct. Chicken spring rolls are so tasty! Lovely bar, big glass ball chandeliers, it's quaint and beautiful with bright red, black and gold that you would expect. I love phò and plan on having it again! Thank for such a wonderful experience!

Yelp
I picked up my to go order of various food choices. I guess I was looking for great Asian food beyond what I would get at other fast food places in the area. Yet, what I got was above average egg rolls, soup that lacked seasoning to my taste and unusually favored fried rice. It is an okay place for a nice set down meal. Be prepared for the long wait and sparse parking close to the front of the building. The hostess --taking my order -- seemed busy in that I had to stand awhile or wait additional minutes before I got my online or call in order. Today -- I made a return visit to add pictures. I ordered egg drop soup, Crab Rangoon similar to last time. The chicken fried rice was very good. My appetizer was good, but the dish did taste over fried. Nonetheless, I would raise the rating because the young lady was very accommodating in serving and very attentive to my needs. A very quiet and quaint place to dine in with nice aesthetics.

Yelp
The food and service was fantastic. Hard to find soup dumplings, but they have them and they are amazing. The Wok stir fried rice is off the charts.

Yelp
So far, so good! We tried this restaurant for the first time back in 2020 during Covid when all you could do was order take out. It was also under different management as well. I wanted to give them a try but not commit to a full dinner just in case it didn't turn out well. To my pleasant surprise, it was good! Someone suggested we try their wings. I also ordered their won ton soup and spring rolls. I ordered it to go and enjoyed it at home. While waited for my order I sat at the bar and the staff were friendly. The inside of the restaurant was fitting for a Chinese restaurant: lighting a little mysterious and tables nicely spread out. This time around as compared to the first time, the pricing was much much better! I thought I might have to take out a loan just to have dinner at their restaurant before. Thank you for making your pricing more reasonable and affordable! We'll be back for sure to try out the dine-in experience! (Sorry no pics this time! I was too hungry and forgot to take pics ).

Yelp
New owners and delicious food! I love the combination crispy fried noodles, lo mein, their hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, fried rice! Their vermicelli noodle bowls are so refreshing. I also love the shrimp spring roll with peanut sauce. The chef is the owner and I love to support them as often as I can. The last time I was there I ordered a crème brûlée boba tea, which is my favorite and it was almost $14, which seemed high. Go there for great Chinese! Lots of parking in front and behind the restaurant.

Yelp
Unbelievably personal service and food unlike anything I've had elsewhere. Fantastic experience overall.

Dana J.

Yelp
Waited 40 minutes for this Chinese food? Mapo tofu has no taste even though it looks spicy. Kongpao Chicken came out room temperature. We mentally prepared for American Chinese food but this ruined Chinese food reputation. Very disappointed! We came hungry and left hungry!

Yelp
Attended a cooking class with the owner last night. We learned to make potstickers. It was super informative and we received one-on-one instruction if we needed. They either friend or steamed our potstickers for use and froze the rest for us to take home. We each made approximately 2 dozen. Then they served us an entree I chose a Korean dish. Everyone who had it loved it. And if that wasn't enough you had a choice of desserts and I picked the cream puff! They served you two and I took one home. They were so prepared with all the take home containers and handle shopping bags. That was really the cherry on top! So much fun and would recommend to anyone!

Yelp
We have had their apps, sesame chicken, kung bao chicken, garlic green beans, garlic baby bok choy, pho ga and pho tai, banh mi and vermicelli bowls. The fry in their sesame chicken is the best we have had. Perfectly thin, crispy and the chicken stays tender. We always get multiple dishes to eat over several days and it reheats without losing quality. Their veggies unmatched to me.

Yelp
Horrible meal. Just zoom in. The chicken is horrendous and way more noodles than chicken

Yelp
This review is for the new owners. Menu contains variety of Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. There is hot pot, but you need to let them know in advance. What I tried: Beef chow fun - fresh rice noodle w wok char Soup dumplings - order of 6 Bao buns w bbq pork - comes in pair Banh mi - note these are on mini hoagie bread and can choose toppings Lunch service was okay, but did take awhile from time of order to receive food so if you are on a time crunch just be aware.

Yelp
I think maybe they need some time to work out some kinks. There were only a few tables occupied over the lunch hour. They forgot our soup, which once I mentioned it, they were happy to bring it. My dining partner ordered a beef dish and got chicken. She did inform the waitress, who then said I thought you ordered shrimp. so they did discount her meal. I do feel they are trying. We both added an egg roll, the menu shows a 1.50. However, we were both charged 2 for the extra egg roll.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time today for lunch. I had the Sichuan Beef lunch. The flavors were excellent! Likely the best Chinese I have had in the metro area. Would definitely recommend!!

Yelp
We had a hit or miss experience but I think it was more that what we ordered was not to our taste than that it was poorly cooked. First of all I wolfed down the Szechuan green beans. Loved them! My husband ordered soup dumplings And liked them But would probably get the pan fried ones next time. I picked the tofu in duck yolk- I've had a similar dish at a friends house And loved it so I was really excited. The flavor itself wasn't bad but it was horribly gritty as if the egg shell was ground up into it? I was not expecting that. Neither of us could bring ourselves to eat it and I was surprised that even our cats turned their noses up at it. My husband had better luck with the ginger duck- it tasted pretty good, however it was quite dry. I ended up tossing it in some hoisin sauce at home for him. We also ordered the abalone dish as we were interested in it. It was not bad but the spice profile was very bitter And clashed with the buttery abalone. We also ordered the sweet rice cake for dessert. Again I was really excited for it but took a bite and discovered it wasn't very sweet and actually had a very overwhelming taste of what I think was star anise? This was not to my taste but my husband liked it fine. We would go back to give it another try, but the only thing we would order again is the green beans.

Yelp
We went here for hot pot once it was brought back since 2020. It was so good! Service, ambiance, all things were great. Thanks for the tasty meal!

Su D.

Yelp
We LOVED this restraunt it was overall great and the staff our visit fun and uplifting the food was mouthwatering and served quickly. Can't wait to go back. P.S try the bubble tea for dessert it was really delicious.

Yelp
Who knew I would get my Dim Sum fix in Des Moines? I have to confess I did not visit the restaurant but ordered my food through the GrubHub app. My driver John, was able to get my order to me on time. So, kudos to GrubHub. Since the "mask" mandate in Iowa is completely gone, I think I can at least visit. The food I ordered was fantastic! I ordered the braised pork, ma po tofu, steamed pork buns and some egg rolls (if you order these, you should get a double order, they are pretty small) and of course I ordered it super spicy (an 8 out of 10). I didn't want it painfully spicy, but close. The braised pork must be mentioned here since it is really different. I have never had this in a restaurant. I does remind me of a Filipino pork dish stewed with banana flowers. It has the same sweet/savory flavor. There are so many dishes yet to try from this restaurant but I ordered enough for the rest of my stay. Sadly I have no more to add since I am dining in my hotel room and there's no atmosphere here to speak off, unless you like Netflix.

Katherine S.

Yelp
Crab Rangoons were over cooked. Egg drop soup had tofu in , never had that in it at other Asian restaurants. The Hunan chicken had the five-spice powder in it, I don't like anise or fennel and no my drink didn't heightened the taste of the sauce. I won't be going back

Yelp
Food was pretty good and the service was very friendly and quick. The interior and ambiance left a lot to be desired though.

Yelp
This restaurant has changed ownership and is no longer the same. Only the name remains. We loved the previous owner's food and the change is a big shock so it is hard to rate objectively. If I rated this restaurant against the Gansu & Sichuan-style fare that the previous owner prepared I would give the new restaurant 0/1 star. If I rate it against other Americanized Chinese restaurants I give it 2 stars.

Leslie L.

Yelp
The hot pot was amazing. Very glad we have a hot pot location in Des Moines. I really like that the options are a la carte. The waiter serving us was very helpful in giving us recommendations. It could get pretty expensive, so I suggest ordering little by little and not all at once. Come with an appetite. Excited to go back and bring more friends of mine.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from Heavenly for the first time and I was definitely satisfied. I ordered braised pork w skin and some white rice. Pork belly is a longtime favorite dish of mine, it's my type of comfort food. So I'm happy to find location that hits exactly what I'm looking for! The taste was sweet and tender. The site was also easy to order from. When I arrived to the location, they place a table right inside the front door where they place take out orders. You just reach in the bag to grab the order that has your name on it. They are only doing take out and you can't go inside the building at all. So I assume you can only do ordering online or over the phone. The portion size for this dish is decent. I did only order meat, so I'm not sure how they portion size everything. I will definitely order from them again.

Christine F.

Yelp
Food was ok... not great but ok. Service was not good. Wouldn't go back. Had to ask for water and get my own refill.

Ashley W.

Yelp
Service and hot & sour soup were great! Unfortunately we couldn't get past the overwhelming sewer smell that fills the entire restaurant. The General Tso's Chicken had an overpowering cinnamon flavor. It's not a spice I prefer in a spicy/savory dish. Coupled with the sewage smell that I was willing to overlook and trying hard to ignore, I just couldn't choke down the chicken. Really wanted to love this place. The mural on the wall was beautiful and the lighting is pretty. Would only consider returning if the sewer system was fixed.

Dylan L.

Yelp
Just stopped here with my wife for the first time and I now have a new favorite restaurant! Excellent food, excellent service that I would highly recommend to anyone.
google avatar

Jerry G.

Yelp
Very good food, but... I found the online ordering software difficult to use as it wouldn't let me edit my order. So I just called instead. No big deal. However The portions, except for the soup, were small for the price. Generally Chinese takeout is in a packed full container, not a partly filled container. Ours was not. Particularly the $18 combo fried rice. Considering that most of our orders were tofu, rice and veggies, really? Then to charge an extra $2 for rice that most restaurants include? The food was great here, don't get me wrong. I recommend it. I was just put off by the serving size versus price.

Charley S.

Yelp
The food was average at best. Our service was terrible. The guy that waited on us could have cared less that we were there. He spent more time watching TV than waiting on us. To make matters worse, he got my order totally wrong.

Natalie M.

Yelp
Ugh, this restaurant is NOT the same as the one we all know and loved! The server informed us that the restaurant reopened under new ownership. The menu is completely different and missing so many of the customer favorites. The food was your basic Chinese-American food, not much above Hy-Vee Chinese in all honesty...nothing like the fresh, flavorful, and more authentic dishes from the old Heavenly. We spent most of the meal looking down forlornly at our food, sad because the previous Heavenly appears to be gone. Unfortunately, we won't be back unless the restaurant revives the old dishes with the same quality. The servers were very nice and friendly, though!

Yelp
I have been to Heavenly a few times at this point. It's located in Valley Junction area so it's in a great area. Pros: they have the best spicy dumplings I've ever had. Great atmosphere with really nice staff. Cons: I have yet to order a dish that I would want to order again. Overall, good restaurant and friendly staff. A little overpriced too but I'll definitely be back again for the dumplings.

Yelp
In town for the caucuses and ventured out to explore the close-in suburbs when my family stumbled upon this magical little Main Street in Valley Junction, West Des Moines. It was later in the evening so the street was quiet but this place was lit up and open for business. When my partner looked it up he saw they specialized in Szechuan Chinese and we knew we'd found heaven!! Food from this region of China is the best-- in the world! Spicy, if you'd like it to be, but otherwise just full of flavor. The night we were in it was Super Bowl Sunday and (rightfully) guessing we'd want to watch the game during dinner, the owner came out to personally offer us a comfy spot in a private space just on the other side of the main room. In no time we found ourselves with a beautiful spread of food and an unforgettable half time show. Again, heaven!! Food was 10 out of 10! The dan dan noodles made all of our troubles disappear. Please don't skip that dish. Then we had the Szechuan dumplings = best we've ever had, and a specially beef hot pot that was flavorful and just spicy enough. The Scechuan chicken is like popcorn chicken, but just lightly breaded. Salty and addictive! The sweet and sour chicken is above standard, served mild for those who can't handle the heat. Oh, and the wonton soup is also a must! Can't wait to visit Des Moines again and make our way back to this Heavenly spot, where the food -- the service -- the ambiance are a gift from the gods :). Thanks to the staff and chef.

Emily B.

Yelp
Two stars is probably generous, my chicken chow mein had a weird taste and after a few bites it did not get better. as well as the crab Rangoon barely had anything in the middle and was Just fried wonton. boba was decent though!

Tina J.

Yelp
Excellent, fresh and flavorful noodle dishes. Hearty portions and not afraid to add spice like so many other spots in town. The people working that night were extremely friendly and attentive, and made us feel like part of their family. Full bar and good cocktails. We'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, but not worth the money. If they opened the restaurant and lowered their prices a bit, they'd be a go-to spot.

Colleen R.

Yelp
I have ordered twice now, two completely different meals & both were delicious! First was for delivery & it was extremely fast, second was pick-up, which was also fast. The restaurant looks very clean and the staff was very friendly. Highly recommend if you're looking for a good meal.

Debra R.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The sesame chicken was the perfect combination of sweet and crispy with just the right amount of spice. Our waiter, Eric, was very friendly and helpful and our food came out quickly. The dining area is comfortable with beautiful artwork and lighting. We really enjoyed our time there!

Yelp
Going to round this place down to like a 4.25/5 for finding a hair in my rice. Wasnt the end of the world though. I'll be nice :) I ordered the ying and yang hot pot which is half spicy and half mild. The mild side wasnt even remotely as flavorful as the spicy side. That being said, the spicy side was CRAZY DUMB WILD FLAVORFUL. Spices everywhere and it seemed to get progressively more spicy as the dinner went on. Beef tripe, rolled beef, and beef meatballs were pretty good and the sauce display you see on the left was a great addition to the fluffy white rice. Dipping sauces were drip drop DRIPPING with flavor. Spices and ingredients tasted like they were fresh as well. Overall the place was really solid and the service was great as well. The decorations were awesome too. I'll bump them up to a 4.59 for playing Sing on the TV in the background. F*cking love that movie.

Brad D.

Yelp
Food was great took the whole family, everyone loved it. Service was great. Very open and roomy..

Diane H.

Yelp
We had a delicious meal and intend to return soon. Service was friendly and competent.

Yelp
I am a BIG fan of this spot. Due to COVID, they are only open for carry out. Do not let that scare you away, as it so worthy of a carry out/to go option. You place your order online, and pick it up within 15-30 minutes, depending on how busy they are. I ordered two nights in a row. Within the two nights, I got orange chicken, egg rolls, cucumber salad, pork buns, and mongolian beef. I cannot recommend the mongolian beef and pork buns enough. By far the best things I ordered here! One thing to note is that rice does not come complimentary with the entrees, so you'll need to order a side of rice. If you order a lot of rice, be sure to order extra. Nonetheless I cannot recommend this spot enough. A serious gem in the city. There is free parking along side the street, if you need time to kill while waiting for your food there are plenty of shops and surrounding bars.

Yelp
I love Sichuan food but and they have some dishes from that section of China along with some other Chinese items. The items I had were OK. The flavors were nothing special. The Dan Dan noodles were overcooked. The dumplings had too much sesame and not enough heat. The chicken had a billion peppers but wasnt spicy at all. It's not a bad place, it's just not great. I had high hopes for this place but they really need to discover Sichuan peppercorns.

Matthew B.

Yelp
Great spot and great food . The service was allotted slow but that's to be expected with staffing theses days.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Best Kung Pao chicken ever. Everything is delicious. I just wish they would open back up for sit down dining.

Ethan A.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly service, and a beautiful atmosphere. I got the General Tsao's Chicken lunch special and I couldn't be happier. They have a host of great boba drinks as well-- their very berry refresher is delicious! Thank you for the meal

Travis S.

Yelp
They went Panda Express style food. Bring back the old menu. Just using 4-6 sauces doesn't count. At least the hot and sour soup is still the same
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
Heavenly is known for its authentic cuisine and fine presentation of it. I visited with some Chinese natives that were in town for a brief visit. We were extremely happy with it. They were complementary of the food and a little surprised to find it in our Midwestern city. all in all we had an excellent time. I appreciate the service and help with their visit. For me personally, the best part was the leftovers.

Ally D.

Yelp
Was so disappointed when I got there and saw a waiting room full of people waiting for their food. That's when I knew it was going to be bad. Was there for a full 30 minutes before I got my food, which was Singapore noodles, and an order of crab rangoons. The crab rangoons were for some reason really salty, and the Singapore noodles did not have enough flavor whatsoever. No curry taste as all that we get when we order the dish other places. Super disappointed and will not be back.

Yelp
I have been to Heavenly once and then ordered some food for delivery during the pandemic and both times it has been a great experience. The first time I dined in, we had the heaven/hell (spicy/mild) hot pot, which is so lovely and tasty. Yes, it's expensive, but honestly, the food is so well executed, fresh, and delicious, that it is certainly worth it. If you haven't had hot pot, you must do so immediately. It's a wonderful communal experience, where you get to quickly cook the pieces of meat or vegetables of your choice in a flavorful broth. The spicy broth is quite spicy, so beware - it burns so good ! This mode of eating makes you really full. The broth was addictive and even though you think you are done, you want to keep eating. The decor inside is chic, and the service is professional and courteous, although there were some delays at times. The second time, I ordered several appetizers to eat at home: the Shanghai steam buns and the Chengdu spicy dumplings. Yum! Absolutely delicious. You can't find this food anywhere in Des Moines, much less the rest of Iowa. Portions were plentiful, in my opinion. Adjust your budget though, because it is a bit pricey, though worth it.
