While in the area, I stopped by the newest brewery in Brooklyn Park, @heavyrotationbrewing. They are a nano brewery with a 3.5bbl system. Their beer menu was split into categories of Something Hoppy, Something Different, Easy Going, Dark/Roasty, and Hard Water. I chose to go with a flight of four of their beers to cover four of the categories (didn't give their Hard Water a shot). Took me a while to pick from their Something Different as it contained many mix-ups on traditional styles, but liked the choices I made.
Buzzcut Season:
A DDH Hazy IPA using 100 percent NZ hops. Floral and citrusy with notes of melon, apricot, and grapefruit. A thicker mouthfeel, but still smooth. Even with such intense tropical fruit flavors it is not overly sweet and is well balanced with bitterness.
The Get Up:
A Coffee Golden Ale with Get Down Coffee and Toasted Coconut added. Pleasant roasty bitterness from the coffee that reminds me of a blonde roast coffee. However, the bitterness is not overwhelming and doesn't overpower the toasted coconut that comes through on both aroma and the finish. My favorite of the four beers!
Farmer Frank's:
A classic Cream Ale. Very low hop aroma, flavor, and bitterness as is to be expected. Low sweet corn flavor, and a doughy malt aroma. A lawn mower beer that begs for summer weather.
Snack Pack:
A Pastry Stout with Raspberry and Vanilla. Mildly malty with heavy sweetness from the vanilla and raspberry. Very reminiscent of a semi-sweet chocolate covered raspberry. Great for dessert, and would love to see how it would taste being paired with chocolates or used to bake a dessert (raspberry brownie or pudding anyone!?!?!).
