Small burger joint that's shared with the Columbian restaurant, same owner. The burgers take about 20 minutes so it's not fast. Nothing special about this place and the burger wasn't good. It's been open for 5 months so hopefully they'll improve.

This place was bumping! The Colombian half of the menu has brought a fun life into Hegenburger. We went in for a burger and left with Colombian special plates (Bandeja paisa) and drinks (lulo). My daughter still got her cheese burger :) Jose and crew have a clear passion and it shows up in the food and atmosphere.

I though it had a difrent name, they cook the meat on wood it had a prety good smokey flavor I had the combo meat pork and beef for $25 they said it was ny steak, not brisket the only thing it was alittle tuff, pupusa was really good us been colombian

Great burgers at fast food prices. They also serve breakfast and some specialties like steak sandwich and steak fries.

Ballpark chaser and saw this place and the ratings. Parking was convenient, place was empty but the service was great. We were told they were only doing To-Go orders so they could close early, otherwise they'd get a 5 star review. Got the double burger all the way with pepper jack and it was absolutely delicious, curly fries were great, regular fries were ok.

Nice place for a quick bite to eat, prices are so so. I paid 21$ for a burger fries and drink. Fountain soda machine was out of order but they substitute a drink from their 2 fridges they have, I got a glass bottle coke which was cool. I got the double combo with cheddar cheese, bacon, avocado and grilled onions which was why the price was 21$ for a combo because every addition was $1.50 more. The fries were super hot and fresh and the burger was good. Everything came in a to go bag with 5 ketchup packets and some napkins. Also when driving here be careful when you turn into the parking lot and the entrance has some messed up road thay could easily damage your vehicle.

New Owner's so yall beware. They will make your American food incorrectly and then NOT make it the way you ordered it. Asked for NO cheese. Cheese was all over my patty and bun. Asked simply for a new patty and was denied. Was told no, he wouldn't make it over. And won't give me a refund either. Bad business. Colombian owned now so I guess the focus is solely on that.

Cool little place. Got the signature burger and onion rings. Burger was really good. Definitely a step above In and Out. But quite a bit more expensive as well. Probably 3.5 stars really. Good burger…a bit pricey.

Seems family run and they treated me like they were glad I came. Very tasty burger with a clever name.

I don't like leaving bad reviews but I'm not sure if this is under a new management. I used to come here all the time but it's not the same! Once I picked up my order everything had no flavor. Double bacon burger had no bacon which cost an additional $1.50 plus 60 cents for cheese on top of $12, Tuna sandwich barely had any tuna but lots of lettuce, Fries were over cooked, chicken tender and chicken nuggets were dry and didn't come with ranch or any sauce for that matter! Fish burger wasn't what I expected it to be it had two slices of fried fish side by side that was a first for me anywhere I've gone to! Honestly the food that this business served me it seemed like it was frozen food fried up and not made with love! Overall I will never be coming back you guys have to do better! I spent $80 worth of food and this is just not ok!

Waited 20 mins for the food , and it wasn't even what I had asked for . I'm not sure if this place is under new ownership? Both of the two orders I received were incorrect. The meat was dry and overcooked. Disappointing I use to love this place.

I'm down here on Oakland looking for iconic Oakland restaurants that aren't on the big tourist list. I came across this Hegenburger burger place that's been here at this same location for at least 35 years. I don't know if it's the same owners but it might be the same family. This place isn't quite as divy as the Chubby Freeze I found just up the street a ways. This is more where the people in suits might come for lunch, not the local pharmaceutical dealer. The interior is clean and simple and the food is pretty standard, so nothing super fancy like grass fed this or that, just real 1/3 lb patty burgers and fries. That's what I had and it was decent. Not off the charts great, but I'd stop in here again if I was in the area. Hegenburger on Hegenburger Blvd. ... cute!

Came in and tried the #1 hegenburger combo... man oh man that burger was sure tasty! And the fries were delicious too! The service was on point! Very polite and was very chill inside.. came in around 10:30.. I will be coming back to try the rest of the menu

Great amazing burger best in the area burger was juicy and meaty like an old-fashioned burger I ordered the bacon burger with chili cheese fries. It was delicious. I ate everything because it tasted so good. I highly recommend it to everyone to try this place.

Hegenburger has been one of my burger go-to's for years. For starters, they heve a really great variety of good food, but to me, the star is their burger! It's a thick, juicy burger with melted cheese, fresh vegetables and that oh o great grilled flavor. When ever I visit, it's common to see the place filled with workers from Oakland Airport and even OPD. I'm glad these good folks are taken care of. Hegenburger is still recovering from COVID so the restauraunt is still not t's former bustling self at lunch, but does currently have limited seating. If you've not been here, you'd be hard pressed to find a better burger. I definitely recommend giving them a try. Oh, and don't forget the homemade onion rings and fries!

New owners, very pleasant. My first time ever, and the Hegenburger combo was delicious, fries were cooked to perfection. This will not be my last time.

I paid $11 for a turkey burger with cheese. It was good but the customer service was nasty.

No frills burger joint, in a somewhat questionable area (warning signs not to leave belongings in your car). Just be aware of your surroundings, something we have to do more and more these days.... That said, definitely old skool burgers, with traditional buns. Decent sized patty, larger than most. The fries stood out for me. Just the right amount of crisp, and evenly salted. Good stuff!

I always heard that Hegenburger was the Bomb in Oakland!!! So today after I picked up my Whip from 4WP !!! I stopped over at Hegenbergers and perused their Menu!!! I then ordered their Philadelphia Cheese Steak with every thing on it!!! I paid by Credit Card!!! They only do Take Out due to COVID-19!!! 15 minutes later I received my Cheese Steak Sandwich!!! It was pretty small!!! It tasted good, But I've had better!!! Average Experience at Best!!!

Saddened this place has closed. We went today and our staff was in disbelief that this Oakland staple is no longer here. Hopefully they open soon or open another spot or something because I haven't been this sad since Bo Jackson got hurt.

First time visitor, stopped by on a weekday @12:30, it took them a little over 20 min to get my order ready. For a hamburger joint that's unheard of, but its a good thing if you want your burgers made fresh to order. Hegenburger with bacon ($7.50, plus extra for bacon) & double bacon cheeseburger ($9.50 + extra for bacon) were acceptable but nothing special. Meat patty was not dry nor was it juicy, the bun was a bit over toasted as one corner of the bread has black scorched marks and a bit hardened. Lettuce and bacon were crispy and no complaints about tomato. Calamari fries ($7.95): had to try it despite the mixed reviews. It lacked any crunch/crispiness, batter was ok, it came with a dipping tartar sauce. Butcher's bill was $32.66 for the 2 sandwich and the calamari fries. Combo is definitely a better value but I generally loath fries and sodas. Overall I thought the burger was slightly better than the average burger chain albeit at a higher price tag. The food in general was on the saltier side.

Ordered a Turkey burger and fry combo after walking over from the Springhill Suites. Not even the plethora of liter and homeless camps could disuade me from making this 2 minute walk again. Turkey burger was phenomenal and that shouldn't be understated. Where's usually you're looking at eating glorified cardboard with that order, this burger came to life with juices and seasoning. Grilled onions and mayo sealed the deal. Fries were crisp and salted perfectly. Again, not to be overlooked. A man who knows how to work that oil fryer is becoming a lost art in our fast casual burger society. I would have probably ordered the bacon burger combo with garlic parm fries on a normal basis, but my gut instinct told me turkey burger was the move today. Would gladly order again, as the restaurant was clean and service behind the counter was on point. Turkey burger & fry combo, CBTM.

Amazing! The location isn't the best but the food is top tier! Brought my daughter for lunch while staying down the block at the Courtyard. SO good!! The junior burger was plenty! The fries were perfectly crispy.

This place has never steered me wrong... The burgers are so flavorful they taste delicious and fresh. I ordered a double cheese burger with bacon and an order of fries. This was for my partner and I snuck in a couple of bites. The burger tastes like exactly what you want a burger to taste... Flame grilled, juicy with fresh ingredients. The bacon was this big delicious bacon that was cooked to perfection and not too crispy. The fries were shoestring and were also very fresh and piping hot. In total my order was $17 and I left a generous tip as I would like this place to stay open and we have to support our local businesses.

Mom n Pop Asian owned/ran burger joint in a not too hot area of Oaktown. I'm sure most of their business is from local workers (mostly industrial) of the area and not so much from residents. They're not open at nights nor weekends, so that's the indicator. Not sure what the place looked like pre-pandemic, but now it is pretty bare bones with maybe 3-4 tables open for sitting. It looks like they scaled it down as there is a ton of open space. And believe me, this is one burger you are gonna want to sit down and eat, versus to eat on the go. Double Burger as combo, so with fries and drink ($18ish/4.5*) So, their patties are 1/3 pounders. That's bigger than a Mc D's 1/4 pounder, for those Americans who are fractionally challenged. So, two of them bad boys make 2/3 of a pound, which in my book is quite a hefty bite. It's more meat than a 10 oz steak. They do cook them til well done but they don't dry it out. It is quite juicy and will run down your hands, which is why I highly recommend you eat this in house, versus in your car seat. But you do you! Whatever cheese you put on there will be melted to the point of almost being liquid. I think they only put mayo on the sandwich itself, so if you want mustard or ketchup, there are plenty of packets at the front, plus a few bottles of hot sauces. They also put just enough produce to keep things interesting and a little healthier. Except next time I'll nix the tomato as they were the ones that kept wanting to slide off with each bite. The bun was quite decent but for the 2/3 pound size, just really could not hold up to all that beefiness. It's not really a gripe as I crushed that burger, but I did have to use like 7 napkins to eat this thing. The fries were the standard skinny frozen ones, like you'd see at Mc D's. But they were fried in clean oil and they gave you a ton. I didn't see it, but my buddy did, so he opted for the thicker steak cut fries. So, you do have choices here. So, fresh burgers cooked to order, in a very honest and non-fussy manner, without having to schlep it up in a cattle call line ala In & Out, I just can't help but to be a fan. I wish I would have known of this place sooner as I used to go to A's and Warriors games all the time. But just glad I know now, as I now know where to send my hAngry ass, on those dire occasions.

They are open! I went on the May 30, 2023 and everything was as expected. Great burger...a little pricey, but hey isn't everything now days! I'll definitely come back!

Omg, I love Hegenburger. It's like this mom and pop shop and every time I go to pick up, the lady is so sweet. I get my usual turkey bacon burger with garlic fries. The BOMB!

We went to Hegenburger after we arrived in Oakland for a bachelor trip in Napa. Everyone in our group is a big burger fan and we were excited to try a local joint after a long flight before we took drive for an hour to get to Napa. The space itself isn't out of the ordinary. Clearly most folks grab the burgers to go, which we did as well. There are a ton of options for different type of burgers, sandwiches, and fries, which was a big plus. Almost everyone in our group ordered a different burger and we ordered a variety of fries (curly fries, garlic fries, etc). For the most part, the burgers were juicy and fresh and the fries were crispy and well seasoned. My burger came with avocado, which was unripe, which was probably the biggest draw back. The food came out pretty quickly despite our large order and the staff was courteous and friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you happened to be in the area but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to drop by.

Stopped in here on our way to the airport. I got the Philly and my husband got a BLT. It doesn't look like much from the outside but food was pretty good

I stopped by this place for some food the other day, and I am glad that I did, because the food was really good here. I had their Hengen burger ($7.50) and a side of calamari ($7.50). The wait was about 10 minutes even though the place was pretty pack. The lady brought my food to me while I waited outside in my car. The calamari ring have a thin batter, it was really nice and crispy on the outside with a right amount of salt. It came with a fatty white sauce that have some dice tangy pickle in it. this was not bad, but I prefer a lemon pepper n salt sauce for my fried seafood. my favorite thing was the hengen burger. The patty was not pink but it was still juicy and very flavorful. the amount of sauce that they used was just right, the burger wasn't drippy or soggy, just the way I like it. the meal came at 18$ after tax n tip for a hengen burger and a calamari. I think they have the best burger that I had in a while. definitely coming back for sure.

Great alternative to in n out for some nice burgers. I got the hegenberger. It took a bit of time to come out, so don't come here if you're super hungry. The patty was very juicy, and the buns were really good. I got the smallest sliver of tomato, which I don't mind because I don't like tomatoes. The burger was around $7, which is standard pricing, but obviously more than in n out. Not many tables inside, and this place was busy on a rainy weekend. The parking lot wasn't full, but lots of potholes so beware.

First of all, the prices on yelp are very very wrong. The man said they haven't had $5 burgers in 10 years, but I honestly kind of expected that because who sells burgers for that price anymore? Anyways, I got the double burger and it's good quality, bigger than I expected too. Someone on here said it was quite small, not sure where they usually get their burgers but if this is small they must usually get them with patties a foot across

I love going here for their burgers and sweet potato fries.. It's one of my favorite spots. Not much to look at but doesn't need to have a beautiful decor to make a great Burger.

Honestly, this looks like the kind of place you wouldn't even think of stopping at. We almost weren't, but once you get inside and taste the food, you'll feel foolish for ever doubting it. The burgers are amazing. The fries fresh. How wonderful

We landed at the airport and needed some fast but delicious food. This tiny dive was just what we needed. (There are signs inside warning people to lock their cars). The burgers were thick, juicy, and tasty. I had steak garlic fries (yum) and my daughter ordered onion rings (also yum). If food is more important than atmosphere, order here, and hit the road with a satisfied tummy.

Man... Need a good greasy burger ? This is the spot. Want some garlic crispy French fries? This is the spot. Want to feel great about yourself after devouring a bacon cheeseburger and garlic fries? This is NOT the spot. Want to stay true to whatever diet plan you're. Pretty sure this is NOT the spot for any diet. Unless it's a round diet. Point is, good burger joint in east Oakland where you don't have to worry too much about getting your car broken into or robbed. A lot of regular joes come here for their lunch break. I would definitely recommend!

The lady that answers the phone and take orders is very rude. She's very inpatient it was my first time there they have a menu that doesn't explain what's on each burger when asked she huffed and puffed rolled her eyes and said she was busy smh. Not to mention Shes the one making the food along with another guy so I had to watch them cook because she was so upset for nothing I didn't trust that she didn't try to tamper with my order. Not to mention their Pattie's or fries aren't authentic so you're charging as much as you are for you food why? For two meals ($40.00) Grass feed angus beef Pattie's that's frozen but small businesses want to be supported? There's no manager for me to complain to or anything smh. I want be spending my money here again.

I have wanted to try this place for my whole life (pretty much yeah). My boyfriend and I moved to the area and had to use kinkos so we called ahead to order two combos. When we arrive, it turns out that they hadn't even started the order but they already had our card info. It took us about 13 mins to drive there and then another 15 mins of waiting around a place I didn't want to be at (neighborhoods is so-so)That's why this review is 4 stars. The food was amazing though, the burgers were huge. There were two thick meat patties inside and I removed one I won't subtract a star for hella meat though even tho I got my hands dirty. I really wish I could give this place 5 stars because the food is great, but I don't think it deserves 5 stars.

Rude, over priced , and taste horrible . If I could give zero stars I would . When I called to order the man was rude while I ordered . Rushed me through it , and wouldn't listen to what I really wanted . The prices online are supposed from "ten year ago" . Every six months they add a dollar to The price of anything . Prices changed from 850 on the phone to 10 in person. And the food was cold and tasted old . Filthy trash and homeless people also surrounding the facility. Very unsanitary, and hassle when your just trying to grab food and 10 people are loitering and pestering you for money .

Stopped in on impulse to get something to eat before dropping BF off at OAK for his flight home, and pleased with the results. Simple, quality, and quickly prepared burgers hit the spot perfectly. Will definitely be back when in the area again.

This place IS open and I am enjoying my bacon cheeseburger as I type. But the hours posted are not correct. They close at 5 PM not 7.

I've know about Hegenburger for years but for some reason never tried them out until today. I have to say it was one of the juiciest burgers I've had in a while. I prefer my burgers cooked over charcoal or gas, but this was a damn good burger cooked on a flat top. The ingredients were also very fresh. The bun was noticeably fresh, too. If you haven't been, check them out. I'll certainly be back.

Well... I'm not sure what decade those pictures with prices are from, but hopefully you opened the menu pics to see the prices are almost double now. It's my first time here and the woman taking my order wasn't just NOT friendly, she was actively unfriendly. You gotta work damn hard to be that difficult at a burger place. Now I'm waiting for my burger... listening to Xmas music, in this wacky place hoping the burger I'm about to get is worth the $15 I just spent. When I drove by, there were about 25 cars in line at In-n-out. There are 2 people in here besides me. Just the facts.

These Patty Melts are so good. Also love the curly fries. When I work here in Oakland this is my go to spot. Very quick service & friendly people. There are a ton of options on the menu. Go try them out if you haven't yet.

Every time I'm in the area I think of this place. Too bad they aren't open on weekends. The garlic fries are amazing. Fries drowning in garlic in the best way possible. Really good fried chicken sandwich too.

I used to come here a loooong time ago when I was a mid-level ad production gal in San Francisco and had to visit some vendors out in the East Bay. As a Louisiana native, I tend to like unassuming places that serve food, but outside of South Louisiana, it can be a crapshoot. The Hegenburger did not disappoint and became a destination every time I was sent across the bridge for work or fun. But, I had not been in a while and decided to take my son out for lunch at the beginning of summer. I told him that I didn't know if it was still there and wasn't sure it would be as good as I remembered. He was game. Not only was it as good, it was BETTER. God, I think this might be the best burger in the Bay Area. The parking lot is still a minefield and the line was long, but the service was swift and friendly and when our burgers arrived, I was just over the moon at how they looked and then how they tasted. So good, cooked as we ordered them, juicy. Nothing over the top gourmet about this, just a burger as it should be. Fries were good too. Also, for such a ramshackle space that's been there for ages, it's spotlessly clean. Thank you, Hegenburger! Hope to return soon.

Best breakfast burrito in the bay. Solid burger too. Very friendly staff. Hours are limited so check before driving over.

Small but quick and tasty. Lunched here while in Oakland and enjoyed the double burger -added avocado. There are choices of types of fried and several choices of sides. We tried the fried calamari-which was ok Service was quick and friendly Location is conveniently near the airport Facility very casual Price -similar to other local burger places

The only place in the area I could find with an affordable salmon salad. Called ahead during lunch hour. Small lot next to restaurant. Refrigerator with cold drinks inside. Television and bathrooms for customers. My order was ready when I got there and the cashier seemed nice. The salmon in my salad did have some skin on it; once removed I was able to enjoy my salad which was delicious.

Really good Real Burgers and fast service.. i recommended Cheese bacon Burger with jalapeños....
