Hotel Heinitzburg | Best places to stay in Windhoek
"Set in a century-old Germanic castle, this grand European-style hotel is perhaps the most elegant luxury hotel in the capital, although some might find the plush furnishings a touch too European on hot African days. Happily, there’s a great pool to cool off in.
Leo’s at The Castle remains one of the best fine-dining restaurants in the capital, while the wine cellar is one of the largest and most beautiful in the country. For something more casual, the terrace café offers wonderful city views.

Fascinating and romantic hotel and possibly the best spot in Windhoek for sunset drinks or dinner in a beautiful garden. With its lovely pool and garden, it feels like a natural oasis in the middle of the city. The accommodation was wonderful, featuring a super room and friendly service. Wine enthusiasts will appreciate the magnificent wine cellar and its unbelievable variety of wines.

We stayed there for the last days of our trip and it was absolutely worth it. Staff was so lovely and helpful, the food, the service and the views from the garden terrace were also amazing. I definitely recommend it if you want to have something nice before leaving.

Staff were great, room nicely appointed but no tea /coffee station in the room which was disappointing. We ate in the restaurant which is very expensive. We ordered the crayfish as a treat as it was very expensive in an already expensive restaurant. It was the worst dish I have had in a restaurant in many, many years. It was dry and served with stringy asparagus. Very disappointing.

An absolute dreamy stay!
The staff are so warm and welcoming. I was greeted with a glass of bubbles and a welcome choc treat (unfortunately it wasn’t gluten free/ I did email ahead to advice I’ve celiac)
They have amazing dining options. Had a delicious tiger prawn salad for lunch. At tea time I headed down for a G&T to watch the views.
I booked a massage and the masseuse comes to your room, it was divine. Quite the treat!
Dinner was exceptional. I dined solo but it’s a very special romantic place. The food was exceptional and they have an impressive wine list. Service was 5 stars.
Breakfast was lovely too.
They apparently had a water pipe burst so there wasn’t water when I arrived. So I couldn’t flush the toilet etc but after dinner the water was working. It must have affected the pipes as I couldn’t get the shower to work that night. The next morning, it was working fine. There’s a bit of mould in the bathroom which I think they should look at.
I’d like to suggest they add bug room spray as there’s ALOT of mosquitos in the room.
Overall, a wonderful experience.

After our two-week trip through Nambia, our last overnight stay was at Hotel Heinitzburg in Windhoek. The staff are not really friendly and service orientied.Very nice pool, very poor service at the pool. The outdoor shower by the pool has not been cleaned for a long time. The water does not drain. The cleaning robot runs all day instead of at night. There are no toilets by the pool. The hotel is poorly organised.

What a shocker, web says it’s open only to find it closed, yes it’s Christmas Day, clearly no attention to detail, shall not visit again. Spent time, money, even Yango drivers were unavailable to go there, so I had to walk to Marua Mall. Disgusting.

Stunning view over Windhoek with a beautiful sunset. Fantastic, highly talented staff, and the food was absolutely perfect. But please note that a 15% tip is automatically added to the bill, even if you’re not part of a group. This is not very common, so it’s worth mentioning.

This is a beautiful place to stay in Windhoek. Perfect hotel to relax after a long flight or a safari. The sunset view over the city is amazing. Hotel staff is very helpful and always smiling.
