Bought an "Apple Bacon Tart" in addition to apples and and bacon, it had cheese, onions, and mustard in it. I expected it to be sweet, but it was savory, which isn't a problem, but it tasted foul, like garbage. I only took one bite, but it made me gag, and I couldn't swallow it. After I brought it back up to the front to warn the man at the counter that it tasted foul, like garbage, he said "Ah, hmm. Sorry."
When I half-heartedly asked for something else, he said, "Hmmm, eh..."
I felt uncomfortable, so I said, "If you don't want to replace it with something else that's fine."
He said, "Yeah, sorry."
I said, "Alright, I'll just throw this away, thanks."
I should've stood my ground and asked for a replacement, that's on me, but people shouldn't have to ask when they're grossed out by your food.
I was with someone, they couldn't even take a bite to try it. That's why this review would have one star. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture before I threw it away, but it didn't look bad.
We also got coffee, which was pretty good.
I got the special biscuit sandwich. The "onion marmalade" and goat cheese were a bit strong and overpowered the egg and a little bit over the bacon, but still a decent sandwich, the biscuit was perfect, excellent texture, nice crumble, a little flakey, but not too delicate so it worked well for a sandwich. Spinach was fresh. Egg was over medium, but I prefer easy, though I didn't ask for that specifically.
My partner got the special breakfast bowl. The egg was perfectly soft boiled, the bacon and chicken had a nice char on the edges, and the vegetables were fresh. There was a little too much rice, half the bowl was rice. Gratiitous rice may not be an issue for some, but would likely be less of an issue if there was a little more fat in the bowl, maybe as an aioli or a drizzle of olive oil, or avocado. It just seemed like the bowl was too lean, again this might be preferential.
Our food took 30 minutes almost on the dot to come out, which isn't too bad considering the quality of ingredients.
The environment is very warm, earth tones everywhere, lots of wood and hanging plants, clay, beige. Some of the plants look worse for the wear, and have mealy bugs on them, which guests might need to avoid touching if they hope to not transfer them to their plants at home.
Over-all, I think this place has okay food, the coffee is good, it's a good place to bring a kid, or sit down with a hot drink to read, draw, or write. I probably won't come here for food again.
