It took me a while to write this review because I wanted to capture the entire experience—and it truly was an unforgettable one. We chose Heirloom for my birthday dinner with close friends and family, and the entire evening was fantastic from start to finish. The restaurant has an elegant yet relaxed vibe with its speakeasy setting, and the staff made us feel welcomed right away. A special shout-out to Sarah, the manager, who stopped by our table personally to greet us—such a wonderful touch that set the tone for the evening. We shared a variety of dishes, and every single one was exceptional: Chopped Salad – Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced with the creamy parmesan vinaigrette and focaccia croutons. Bourbon Glazed Pork Belly – Melt-in-your-mouth perfection, paired with creamy potato risotto and buttery cabbage. Tuna Carpaccio – Light and refined, with a delicate smoked tonnato sauce and the right amount of acidity. Oysters Rockefeller – Rich, smoky, and absolutely indulgent. Red Wine Braised Short Rib – Fall-apart tender with a perfect horseradish potato puree. Black Pepper Crusted Yellowfin Tuna – Perfectly seared and bursting with flavor. Dry Aged Roasted Chicken – Juicy and perfectly complemented by mustard jus and grilled lemon. For drinks, we tried several cocktails: Barrel-Aged Maple Old Fashioned – Smooth and balanced with just the right touch of sweetness. Eagle Eye Rye Gimlet – Refreshing, with a hint of vanilla and saline that made it unique. Luigi vs. Mario – A playful, flavorful Negroni-style drink. Bees Knees – Light, aromatic, and beautifully presented with honey foam. Desserts were the perfect finale: Sticky Toffee Pudding – Warm, rich, and buttery. Apple Cobbler – Comforting and delicious with vanilla ice cream. Chocolate Hazelnut Dome – Gorgeous presentation and indulgent flavor. From start to finish, everything—from the ambiance and food to the service—was flawless. Heirloom is easily one of the best dining experiences in Reston, and we can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend!

Google
This is a "WOW" experience restaurant. Don't try to find Heirloom by walking around Reston Town Center - you have to just know where to go - but it's easy enough to find on line. When we arrived, we were escorted to an unmarked door that led into the restaurant. The booths provided plenty of privacy for our party, and we were met by a very amiable and attentive staff. But the food! I started with Caesar Salad, which had a wonderfully flavorful dressing. The white anchovies provided an authentic accent to an otherwise creamy texture, all coming together for a great starter. The memory that will forever stay with me was from the gnocchi I ordered for my main course. I've had gnocchi in some of the finest restaurants in the US as well as in Italy, but these were absolutely the lightest, most melt-in-your-mouth gnocchi I've ever tasted ... even better than the ones my aunt in Italy made by hand for me years ago. And it didn't just end with that; the spicy sausage ragout was a taste sensation, with creamy ricotta to balance the boldness of the sauce, and a bit of broccolini to tease my teeth with a bit of crunch. Fabulous! Our charming and helpful waitress made the birthday I was celebrating even more special with a perfectly decorated dessert, and even a complimentary Champagne cocktail to put a perfect finishing touch on the evening. One final note: if you are a wine drinker, don't miss some of the unique selections on their list. I thoroughly enjoyed the Super Tuscan.

I visited Heiloom with my wife for a special occasion, based on a recommendation from a friend. For appetizers, we had the burrata cheese and oysters Rockefeller, and for the main courses, we chose the Chilean sea bass and braised short ribs. Overall, we were very pleased with the cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. However, if we were to visit again, there are two things we would hope to see improved. First, while the recipes for the sea bass steak, short ribs, and oysters were excellent, but all the dishes were overcooked. Cooking ingredients that should be juicy and moist until they are dry. We hope they don't just settle for good recipes, but also ensure that those recipes result in perfectly cooked, delicious meals. Second, our table was unstable. It wobbled every time I pressed down on my food with a knife.

Yasmeen J.

Google
The focaccia bread starter and the duck main course were absolutely delicious. I would also highly recommend the Chilean sea bass for anyone who enjoys seafood. The service was excellent— the staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and offers helpful suggestions on dishes that pair well together.

Google
One mark of an exceptional restaurant is it’s ability to receive constructive feedback and make the necessary changes. This is absolutely one of those restaurants. My wife and I went to Heirloom for the first time in August and we had an okay experience. I listed my concerns in a previous review and this wonderful place listened and corrected HARD. We went back this weekend and had a perfect time. The food was flawless, the drinks were spectacular (as always), and the service was the perfect combination of quick and personable. I had a good amount of things to say last time I wrote a review but this last visit leaves me literally speechless. I have no doubt we will be visiting again often and looking forward to each visit. Huge shout out to the team and thank you Sam!

Google
Delicious, quality food and cocktails in a hidden location with a luxurious and cozy vibe. The bramble was sweet and very good while the sunset in Reston has a strong kick due to the habanero syrup. Sparks of joy was fun to watch and delicious! The gnocchi was so light and the sauce was very creamy and flavorful. Highly recommend!

Definitely tricky to find but don't get frustrated, it's by design. Pop into the nearest restaurant and ask to be led to Heirloom. Inside you'll find dim lighting with a long bar and medium-sized dining room. Serving mostly elevated plates, but not to the point of being pretentious. Prices were decent given the food quality, plating presentation and the portion size. A relatively short menu, but that means that many if not all of the items have been nearly perfected. The focaccia was the best I've ever had. like someone took the most buttery flavorful part of a pan pizza and sent it to culinary school 😄. A decent list of wines and relatively small but nice options for a craft cocktail including a rotating seasonal variety and even a "dealers choice". This restaurant is easy to miss, but not to be missed. I'll certainly be back to taste more of the menu.

Google
Speakeasy restaurant within the Open Road Distilling Company in Reston Town Center. Suitable for special occasions, food and service were on point. PHENOMENAL ambience, but we went on busy day and it was very noisy. The restaurant’s acoustics made it difficult to have a conversation while competing against other tables’ talking and the restaurant’s music.

Yelp
Everyone has to experience this amazing restaurant tucked away inside Open Road Distilling Co! Once you enter the unassuming double doors and locate the Speakeasy themed space you are transported to a dining experience you will remember forever and few can compare. Our server Alex was the epitome of what everyone in the hospitality service should aspire to be. Our family was celebrating the marriage of our son and his lovely new wife. From start to finish we felt as if we were the only people in the restaurant. The Small Plates started our dinner out perfectly and promised more amazingness to come! Our cocktails were all expertly crafted and the perfect compliment to the menu. Entrees included the Bucatini, the Cioppino, the Heirloom Wagyu Burger, the Short Rib and the Chicken. Superb execution and presentation! Complimentary Champagne and Sorbet rounded out our evening. Memories made of a most special day! You will NOT be disappointed! Special Occasion, Date Night or just because you must visit Heirloom!

Yelp
Heirloom is tucked inside Open Road Distillery. As LOUD and raucous as Open Road is, Heirloom is quiet and relaxing and luxurious. The service was excellent. Our waiter Grant was very attentive and sweet. My friend asked questions about wine, and they brought her 2 sample pours with recommendations for a 3rd wine to consider - and the offer of a sample pour of that as well. She enjoyed the recommended vintage. We started with the herb focaccia. It came with 3 delicious spreads but the whipped ricotta was my fav. My friend had the beef bolognese and really enjoyed it. I didn't taste any but it smelled divine. I had the cioppino which was full of seafood in a rich tomato-based broth - super yummy. We shared the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The food was great as was the service. We'll definitely return.

Yelp
Heirloom is where my partner and I got dinner after we got married/eloped. Our server on Sept 5 made it feel special for us, and we're really grateful for him! We caught the tail end of happy hour and ordered everything on the menu to start. It was filling so we didn't end up ordering additional food. However, everything was delicious. If we had to choose, the french onion dip was probably our least favorite of the selection. We also enjoyed the "FRESH Out" mocktail and the "Sunset in Reston" cocktail. The tiramisu was an interesting take on the classic dessert. They also brought out a little extra sweet for us and glasses of champagne. I can't wait to go back! I love the ambiance.

Yelp
The mussels on the main menu were really good with that sweet and savory tomato broth dipped in the buttery herby toast. The herb focaccia was a very sourdough cold bread, which wasn't the best recommendation by the waiter but it did give us more bread to dip the mussel broth in. The bucatini was a THICK noodle, which was so good with a rich tomato meat sauce. For mains, we got the short rib which was so tender and soft with a rich and thick sauce (but also a tad bit too salty for me). The cab filet was cooked perfectly (the answer is always medium rare) and cut so easily--a good amount of fat on it. For dessert we got the peach cobbler, and the sticky toffee. The peach cobbler was a lighter dessert and paired well with ice cream while the sticky toffee was so rich and tasted a bit like cereal from the toffee (would have been nice to have a bitter black coffee to go with it).

Yelp
Heirloom never disappoints! The food is always fresh (I could eat their mussels every day)! Our server was fantastic. I never had to ask for a refill and she checked in on us frequently (it was a friend's bday and she brought us all champagne). The ambiance is moody - it's honestly pretty dark - we all have to bring out of our phones to read the menu but worth it, and it's unique in that way. The entrance can be tricky, as it's literally inside Open Road - and through two black doors (thought it was for employees only). There's ample parking in the garages too!

Yelp
Visited Heirloom Saturday night to celebrate a birthday and it was such a great experience. There is a parking deck right across the street but come alittle earlier than your reservation as it gives DC wharf parking garage. The speakeasy is tucked away in open road distillery so easy to find, tell the hostess you're looking for heirloom once you enter the restaurant. The vibe is super cute, cozy, dark lights, seating and aesthetic are chef's kiss, there is sexy and romantic feel (true speakeasy vibes in the northern Va area). There is music playing in the background that gives r&b date night/feel good and is high enough to hear and sing if you please but low enough not to disrupt your conversation. The waiter and service were amazing and he was very knowledgeable about the menu. Recommended a few items, a couple of which we selected. At the table we had the: 1. house made focaccia (the tomato fondue and the ricotta spread were the highlights of the three spreads) 2. short rib ravioli: so goood but be mindful it's a small serving that will leave you yearning for more if you brought an appetite 3. Heirloom burger: juicy and flavorful, the side of Parmesan crispy layer potatoes didn't have much flavor but the crispiness of them were great 4. Dessert: peach cobbler: warm and delightful and a pretty good size! Drinks: we had the bartenders flavor of the week, the Ken vs ryu, the cafe de soul (a play on an espresso martini but tropical), and the proper latte. All were 10/10, 100% recommend. They have a mixologist back there not a bartender. We ended the night with two free glasses of champagne to celebrate the birthday. 1,000% will return as this really is a special and great spot without having to go to DC for folks who love speakeasies like I do.

Yelp
Awesome experience working with Sarah in planning a relatively short notice gathering for 16 colleagues. I could not have planned for a more successful, private room event this evening (12/8/2025). The drinks were superb, the food even better, and our waiter (Jared) and fellow staff were among the very best. Heirloom is a true treasure.

Yelp
Very impressed with Reston! This is such a great addition to the area. Fun little speakeasy inside of the distillery. Really pretty in there, love the lighting, love the bar. Service was great, no issues. Drinks were decent but kind of expected more. Food was fantastic. We started with focaccia that came with 3 spreads, and honestly keep some to dip in all the sauces from the apps and entrees. We had the baked shrimp and octopus, octopus was reallllyyy good and unlike any octopus I've had before. For the mains we shared the gnocchi which was the perfect texture, the seabass that melted in your mouth, and the short rib that was so tender and flavorful. Everything was really good! Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

Yelp
Heirloom is a speakeasy-style restaurant hidden inside a brewing company. Once inside, the atmosphere feels intimate with low lighting and smaller table seating. The space is beautiful, highlighted by a stunning bar display. The food is absolutely delicious. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Heirloom changes its menu occasionally. The offerings from December were completely different from my most recent visit in May. I was a little sad to see the wagyu pasta and wagyu burger go, but I was not disappointed with the new selections. During this visit, we started with the beef carpaccio, which was a bit overly salted but still enjoyable, and the baked shrimp, which was perfect. For my entrée, I had the short rib, which was incredibly tender and juicy. It practically melted in my mouth. All of the desserts were outstanding and definitely worth saving room for. Service has always been excellent. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu and provide thoughtful recommendations when needed. I highly recommend making a reservation, as this place tends to be fully booked on weekends. If you are not able to get the date or time you want, check back a few hours before your visit because openings sometimes become available.

Yelp
Heirloom has nice atmosphere and good food. Located inside of Open Road (another good restaurant/bar) at the Reston Town Center, Heirloom is a fun speakeasy like restaurant that is great for a date night or even getting dinner with family.

Yelp
Heirloom is inside of Open Road Distilling Co. behind onyx black doors towards the back of the brewery. It was such a fun speakeasy experience for my friends and me this past Thursday evening. I wasn't expecting much because I'm not into alcoholic drinks, but the interior was elegant, dark, yet lively ambiance! Also, the food was, for the most part, really good?? This is rare for a spot that is more known for their drinks. LA VARIABLE - 14 This is their weekly non-alcoholic drink (not the actual name of it) but it was a green tea (?) based drink with a really creamy matcha foam that was delicious. It was not too sweet, flavors went well together, and it honestly was gone too quickly. HOUSE MADE HERB FOCACCIA - 10 Each order came with five thin pieces of perfectly toasted, herb focaccia that came with three dips: whipped ricotta, tomato fondue, and cultured butter. The focaccia itself was soft, with a nice chew, and well-seasoned. But this review is about the dips. I tried the whipped ricotta first, and it was light, creamy, and savory, and paired wonderfully with the bread, just as expected. I wasn't expecting much from the tomato fondue, but the depth of the flavors blew me away. It was rich and homey, almost like a grandmother's warm hug. This ended up being our favorite. The cultured butter was our least favorite, but it was still great. It was creamy and nicely salted, but the most ordinary one out of the three. We were quite impressed just from the focaccia. MUSHROOM RAVIOLI - 19 Each order came with three large mushroom ravioli, topped with some crispy mushrooms, fresh herbs, and parmesan, and in some porcini mushroom broth. The ravioli was filled with a very mushroom-forward ricotta (?) filling that was a bit thin and flowed everywhere on my plate. For a ravioli, I prefer something slightly thicker so the filling doesn't get everywhere when I cut it up to eat. The flavors were good, but compared to everything else we ordered, this one wasn't as impressive. SMOKED GOUDA MAC - 12 The cavatappi (corkscrew-shaped pasta) was mixed generously with a thick, smoked gouda sauce and topped with a generous amount of breadcrumbs and freshly-grated parmesan cheese. It was rich, creamy, and smoky. Each bite left me wanting more and more, and we also enjoyed it with some of the leftover porcini mushroom broth from the mushroom ravioli. PAN ROASTED CHILEAN SEA BASS - 47 The sea bass sat on top of a neat pile of sautéed spinach mixed with some aromatics with diced tomatoes on top. It was surrounded by two different sauces, with the carrot ginger puree sitting on one half and the lemon beurre blanc on the other. The sea bass was tender and soft, not much seasoning on its own but meant to be eaten with the garlicky, crunchy vegetables and the sauces. And both sauces were so tasty! The carrot ginger puree was a mix of sweet and savory, and the lemon beurre blanc was creamy and citrusy. I didn't have a favorite because I enjoyed both! This was on the pricier side, but a phenomenal option. 7 OZ GLAZED DUCK BREAST - 38 The duck breast was glazed with an orange chipotle sauce, cut into nine pieces to be enjoyed with the blackberries and orange pieces on the side. The fruits were mixed with a cheesy flavor so it was a mix of sweet, tart, and savory, which was unique. However, the duck (which we requested medium-rare) was more like a medium-well. It was chewy and not tender, which was disappointing. For the side, our server recommended the Colcannon (Irish-style mashed potatoes mixed with cabbage and green onions), a phenomenal choice! The potatoes were whipped and well-seasoned and aromatic with some crunchy texture, and we enjoyed it so much. Our only qualm besides minor food critiques (their seafood options seem to be better) is that the food took awhile to be prepared and served. Besides that, I had a lovely time with my friends, and I would take people out of town here!

Yelp
We didn't realize Heirloom is a speakeasy restaurant inside a distillery, as there are no signs of it from the street. Once we found the double black doors passed the bar, we thought it was going to lead to the kitchen.. but surprise it leads to the restaurant! The food was great (though you'll need more than just a main if you're hungry) - I had the short rib ravioli, which came with 3 half-stuffed pastas. I had questions about the zero proof drinks and our waiter told me that neither the Dirty piña colada was sweeter than the Fresh Out and noted that the olive brine should stay in the drink as made (I decided to try it w/ the peach cobbler, but ended up sending back). I'm not sure if he had a monotone voice/lack of expression/end of a long shift, but our interactions just seemed a little robotic. He did wish us a Happy Anniversary several times though ‍

Yelp
Food is great, atmosphere is fun, and the staff are usually lovely. We've only sat at the bar and ordered apps and drinks, but everything is yummy and both times we went it was consistent. I recommend it for a date night or ladies night.

Yelp
Ragz and I did date night here this week. The place has been on my to do list for a bit now and I'm glad we could go. They call themselves a modern speakeasy fine dining establishment. It's hidden kinda behind the bar at Open road distillery but not very hard to find. The ambience of the place reads fancy and expensive. I really loved their bar - beautifully build with clean lines and very nicely lit. The rest of their decor is a little confusing to me - the green upholstery seemed like the wrong color of jewel themed green they seemed to be going for. Our booth, while very comfortable, had an odd table. There were old marks and indents in the table ( and all other tables) which made it feel like it didn't belong in the place. Lighting was great, no complaints. Service - Alex was nice, but the first half of service was slow honestly. Might have been amplified by the fact that we were both starving, haha. Her wine recommendation was on point though, so I gotta give her that. The lady at the table next to us continued to get animated by the minute as she drank more, which was interesting to witness. Anyway, on to food - it was a solid 4 star meal. We started where the focaccia ( the tomato confit was to die for). I liked it overall, but the fat content in the bread was really a bit much (this is coming from me, a butter junkie). The beet and burrata salad was amazing - perfect balance of flavors and fhe cheese was just the best texture. I think the croutons were confusing though, very large and unwieldy to eat. Ragz had the wagyu burger. He enjoyed it but felt the patty didn't read melt in your mouth wagyu. The bun was delicious! The layered potatoes that came as an accompaniment were honestly very disappointing. Bland and oily even though I could see these were painstaking to make. Over salted on the outside and completely bland inside. I had the mushroom ravioli. It delivered and then some! The mushroom jus was just so full of flavor and the pasta itself was beautiful delicate and fresh. I'd have this again any day. We shared the apple tarte tatin to complete our night. Pretty well made and a good size portion. I think the caramel was a bit too sweet for me, but it was a solid dessert regardless. Glad we were able to come here and I think it's a great addition to the fledgling modern fine dining scene in this area.

Yelp
This restaurant is hidden within another restaurant like a speakeasy which was a fun detour. The inside was dark and moody and a lot quieter than the other restaurant which I appreciated. Dinner tasted great with burrata panzanella, yummy scallops and my friend got the roasted chicken. The burrata was creamy and rich yet sweet with the peaches and my scallops were cooked perfectly. I would have given 5 stars, but my friend got really sick after and I don't know if it was because of her meal here.

Yelp
Speakeasy meets fancy restaurant. Great food and the server was very accommodating to my mocktail request. I love the cozy and classy intimate setting. It would be a great location for anniversaries or birthdays. It's a place to take someone you want to impress but come with a reservation because this place is poppin!!

Yelp
Fun atmosphere, top-notch service, and delicious food. You go through an unmarked double door inside Open Road Distillery. For 2 people, we got the focaccia, a huge salad, and the largest short rib pasta. The waiter learned we were sharing everything so they split all the dishes for us ahead of time. Pricey mains for $30-40. I would go for happy hour for better deals. For the dark moody atmosphere, it's just a little too loud.

Yelp
A recent Friday evening to Heirloom in Reston found us in a secluded, yet somewhat crowded speakeasy environment. We were thankful we had made a reservation. It was noisier than expected and our table was quite dark. We received prompt friendly service. Our server knowledgeably explained the drink options, the menu, and provided us with a few suggestions. We ordered cocktails, for me the Peace and Co. and my dining companion enjoyed the Maple Old Fashioned. Both were delightful despite being quite potent. For starters, we shared the Beef Carpaccio and Burrata. The portions were generous and the Burrata was delicious. Rich, creamy, and fresh tasting, the cheese was perfectly complimented, but we wished there were more beets and pears. This may have been our favorite dish of the evening. The Carpaccio was beautifully presented, but lacked pizzazz, perhaps it was the aioli which derailed it for us. For main courses, I chose the Seafood Cioppino and my dining partner had the Short Rib. Again the portions were generous and the presentation was on point. My criticism would be the Cioppino broth was a tad spicy for my liking, but the mix of seafood was just what my pallet desired and the Foccacia was a nice touch although it would have been better without the aioli. The short rib was tender and savory, but the red wine jus may have overpowered the beef just a tad. Of course, we couldn't depart without trying several desserts. We selected the Apple Tarte Tatin and the Chocolate Hazelnut Dome. The apple tart may just have pushed the Burrata down a notch; paired with a yummy Cappuccino it proved a delicious delight to finish the night. Heirloom was a good choice for us to try and outshines many of the other Reston Town Center restaurants. With attentive, but not overwhelming service; a unique atmosphere; and culinary potential, a few minor tweaks could put Heirloom among northern Virginia's better dining experiences.

Yelp
This place lived up to the Yelp hype! Ambiance- nailed the speak easy vibe, but not too dark & chill Food - Amazing, had our own version of a tasting menu splitting Charred Octopus, Burrata salad, Spicy Bucattini, Roasted Chicken & Sides of Mushroom & Spinach Wines - Unbelievable selection of Italians. Yes, we had bubbles, white & red. Service - Incredible from our server, to food runner, to the GM, who wrote a lovely card of congratulations. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. Every dish we had was amazing. This is one of the first restaurants we have been to in a while that had a really cool vibe, great service, drinks, and every dish exceeded our expectations. To start, we ordered the baked shrimp which comes with a tomato lemon beurre blanc and Parmesan crumbs. The sauce was so good! We ordered 3 main dishes: Sea bass: comes with ginger carrot puree, garlic spinach, and fresh tomatoes. So good and the fish was cooked perfectly Mushroom ravioli: comes with three ravioli, mushrooms, and a porcini broth. Yum! A little messy to eat, but really good. Peppered ahi tuna with cabbage, red wine jus and potato pave. The potato pave were delicious little pillows of goodness. The ahi was perfectly seared and phenomenal with the red wine jus and cabbage.

Yelp
SUCH a cool experience. I've never been to a speakeasy before! The food here was to dieeeee for. I was pleasantly satisfied with everything I ordered! The service was great too. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were all personable and open to giving any suggestions or answering any questions the other person in my party had. They gave wonderful recommendations for drinks! The ambiance of the restaurant is very moody. It was dark, but I liked it. After all, it is a speakeasy. For a speakeasy that's on the pricey side, I definitely think it is worth it.

Yelp
Dark speakeasy-esk restaurant tucked away behind a door in Open Road Distillery. Both table and bar seating Comprehensive menu of both food & drinks at a high price tag I came here for dinner with my GF and we each got a cocktail, split a ceasar salad app, and I got a burger (for a whopping $32) while she got a bolognese dish Everything was fantastic. My only regrets are that I'd more closely read that the Caesar salad had anchovies and that we had more room for dessert

Yelp
Shhh--it's a secret! No, those aren't patrons who have had one too many at Open Road Distillery opening the wrong door to the bathroom. It's a speakeasy serving a small upscale food menu and cocktails from the same distillery! We have been there twice now and haven't been let down with ANY of their carefully crafted cocktails (try the Take Out for a fun surprise) or delicious food. We enjoyed the sea bass and the gnocchi (just perfectly puffy.)

Yelp
A little bit hard to find, as it's located inside another restaurant. The mystery made it a good experience though. When you walk in, there is a majestic door that makes it seem like a best kept secret. The ambiance and decor is nice. A little dark to my liking but would be good for a romantic date. Let's talk about the menu. I got the daiquiri cause I like fruity drinks. I was a bit surprised because it was orange but it tasted amazing. All the entrees we had were amazing, and I can say the mussels they used are very meaty and taste fresh. The desserts were good but not great, which is why I knocked a star. But all in all, a great experience and food was phenomenal!

Yelp
Came here after someone I knew had recommended it. The restaurant is behind two black doors that resemble a storage unit but walking through those doors you're led a room with a door with a rose knob and several picture frames hung on the walls. Walking in, I was surprised how small the interior was but not surprising as it is a speakeasy. We were seated in a back booth and our waiter was great. Super attentive and super easy to chat to. The food was good. I really do recommend getting the focaccia bread, the baked shrimp is just a shrimp scampi sauce (wouldn't recommend it), the short rib was super tender and we swapped out the asparagus for mushrooms, and the scallop risotto was just okay to me (taste is subjective). It was my friend's birthday so they wrote happy birthday on the creme brulee plate which was a super cute touch. Overall, it's a date night place, super dim lighting, good vibes, dress up and have a good night!

Yelp
I made reservations for my husband's birthday at this restaurant and it did not disappoint. It was the first time for both of us dining at Heirloom. There is a parking garage that's connected to the restaurant and there's free parking after 5pm in the garage - that's a plus! We had a bit of a hard time finding the entrance of this place and had to ask the host where the 'secret entrance' was at. After finding the entrance, the ambiance of the restaurant is dark and moody. It's definitely a great spot for celebrations. We ordered several dishes to try: -House made herb focaccia .... 5/5 -Pan roasted sea scallops .... 5/5 -Red wine braised short rib .... 5/5 -Apple tarte tatin .... 5/5 Everything we tried was really good. I would definitely come back and try some of the other dishes. The menu definitely had some great options to pick from. I definitely would recommend this spot!

Heirloom is a gorgeous speakeasy-style restaurant with superb food, creative cocktails, and excellent customer service. My husband made a reservation to celebrate a friend's visit, and I was extremely impressed. Each course was excellent and suggested based on our individual tastes. We started with cocktails and the focaccia before moving on to entrees of short rib ragu, sea bass and steak. My husband's steak was slightly overcooked but that's easy to do as he prefers Black and Blue. Each dish was superb and well presented. I want to mention that the staff never once made us feel rushed, even as we pushed up against closing time. Heirloom is very pricey, but for our special occasion, it was worth a night of culinary pleasure

Yelp
This is my third time visiting Heirloom, but my first time writing a Yelp review, and Heirloom is the reason.  The food, drinks, service, and atmosphere were all stellar, every time I have gone.  The restaurant is designed to have a speakeasy vibe, and it is tucked away inside of the Open Road distillery in Reston . This time, we did the Big Back Special and ran the gamut on Happy Hour plates:  Crispy Calamari, French Onion Dip, Wagyu Meatballs, Moules Frites, and Short Rib Sliders; plus we added the Beef Carpaccio because why not. I only took pictures of three of the dishes because I was too busy eating.   Crispy Calamari: Flaky and light, crunchy not soggy, crispy on the outside, and tender, perfectly cooked squid on the inside. The seasoning was spot on--savory with a little hint of spice--and the two different  dipping sauces took it to another level.  Easily one of the best calamari plates I've had in a long time.   French Onion Dip:  Creamy, rich, and bursting with deep caramelized onion flavor, it's the best version of a classic dip I've ever had. The balance of savory and slightly sweet notes from the onions is perfect, and the creamy dip makes the ultra-crunchy potato chip pop even more. These stole only suggestion I have would be to serve thicker chips so they don't break in the dip.   Wagyu Meatballs: From the first bite, you can tell this dish is going to be extraordinary. The texture is incredibly tender--juicy and buttery, just as you'd expect from high-quality Wagyu beef. They practically melt in your mouth. Seasoned to perfection with a rich, savory depth, umami bursts from each bite. Served with lightly-toasted, buttery focaccia (perfect for soaking up every--and I mean EVERY--last drop of sauce) Out of the five apps we tried today, all were great, but this was my favorite. Maybe.   Belgian-Style Mussels: Plump, tender, and incredibly fresh--they soaked up all the rich, savory flavors of the broth beautifully. The white wine, garlic, shallots, and fresh herbs created a delicate flavor that is smooth and subtle. It was the full Belgian experience.  By the time I was done, it felt like I was in cozy bistro In Bruges (Can we reserve judgement on Bruges until we've seen the place?)   Short Rib Sliders - I tried to save these for last, but I interrupted my first app to sneak a bite, and it did not disappoint.  The meat was unbelievably tender, slow-cooked to perfection, and packed with rich, savory flavor. You could tell the short rib had been braised low and slow--it practically melted in your mouth with every bite.  Served on soft, toasted buns with just the right amount of tangy slaw and a hint of sauce. Each bite was a brief trip to comfort food heaven. Okay this one may have been my favorite. Beef Carpaccio: Razor-thin slices of beef covered with a light sauce and micro greens to freshen the dish, please try this if you go to Heirloom. This is my third time having it. We have ordered every time we have gone. The crispy, crunchy gaufrette potatoes bring it full circle. Can I have multiple favorites?   As for the drinks, I have never been underwhelmed by any of the drinks served here.  And I've had my fair share.  If you decided long ago that cocktails aren't for you, I politely suggest that you try a couple at Heirloom and revisit that conclusion.  Taste, presentation, alcohol content, and everything in between--including specialty ice cubes, tiki mugs, stencil art, and diet fireworks--were delightful and EFFECTIVE (our bartender must have had hands like Jeff Dabe).  All around fantastic dining experience.  5/5.

Yelp
My husband and I visited Heirloom last night and really enjoyed the experience. The vibes are very West Elm after dark. It is a small restaurant, but a very good quality one. Service was excellent. We started with the happy hour calamari, which had multiple interesting and tasty sauces. It was a very good size appetizer for $10 on the happy hour menu. We also ordered the focaccia, which had 3 spreads that were very flavorful. For our mains, I had the duck with the potatoes. The duck was thin sliced and was in a very flavorful sauce. It was perfection. My husband ordered the steak with the Mac and cheese. Everything was prepared perfectly. I would highly recommend checking out this place.

Yelp
I've now been three times, once for business, once for trying all of their drinks and one with my wife. I was surprised at how good the food was for what they call a speakeasy. I think it's more of the people that appreciate good drinks and higher quality food. I' think the Heirloom cocktail is probably my favorite, it' tastes like a mezcal Negroni but less Campari tasting. It was great with the oyster Rockefeller. That's my favorite appetizer on the menu. I love the seabass, and the chicken. My last visit the filet was so so. But the layered potatoes are very interesting and delicious. The technique is very different from any potato preparation I have seen. The last waiter asked me if I wanted any sauces and I asked if they had any Au Poivre and he said I have no idea what that is. Seriously?!? He was a bit odd and his service was lackluster. He's the only one, everyone else is fantastic. The scene is modern but simple. The dress is casual however I like to dress a bit nicer for respect since the food is elevated. Definitely make a reservation through open table and enjoy.

Yelp
Heirloom was fantastic - the food, the service, the ambiance, and especially the drinks. It is nestled within another restaurant - making it a little hard to find, but contributes to the fun and exclusivity of a speakeasy! The service was great - our waiter was attentive but not overbearing. Daniel, one of the managers there, personally stopped by and introduced himself, chatting with us a bit. It was very pleasant. But the best part was the food and drinks! I got the JK - a perfectly sweet and fruity cocktail if you're a fan of those. We started off with the house made focaccia - that had these amazing spreads to add on top of the bread. I definitely recommend getting the ham to go with it (+$6) - it added a nice saltiness to it. I paired it with the Caesar salad (which had sardines - the original way it's made) and lots of cheese! Finally, the gnocchi was super soft and was not too heavy. Overall, really enjoyed my time there and will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
This is an Intimate restaurant that you would take a date for Valentine. The menu is not overwhelming but dishes are on pricey side. The service is great but at times slow as they are friendly with their customers. We got the Mussels and Tuna Carpaccio to start. The mussels are big and juicy compared to others I've eaten at other places. The tuna is a bit too herbal tasting for us. For entrees, we got the glazed Duck, Heirloom burger, and Wagyu steak (limited time special). We also got a spicy Bucatini to share. Everything cooked correctly and tasted great. For dessert we got the Tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding. Both were excellent as well.

Yelp
Tucked away and literally a "hidden" gem - this speakeasy has a unique atmosphere and outstanding cocktails. The menu offers a variety of drinks and food to choose from. This review is just for drinks however, as we did not dine here. I chose to order an espresso martini after verifying that they do make them with real espresso. With espresso martinis being all the buzz (badum tss) lately, I've found a lot of places skimp and use cold brew or something else to give the "espresso" flavor, which always disappoints me. This place was the real deal. I ordered... let's just say more than one espresso martini because they were so good. The glasses they were served in were beautiful too. I think the only complaint I had was about how hot it was inside.. the heat was blasting for some reason. Anywho, friendly service, cool vibe, great drinks - what more could you want?

Yelp
Very cute speakeasy that is in a separate room of Open Road Grill. Nice comfy bar seats and open. Not as dark as most speakeasy. Tried the apple crostini and it was amazing no. I didn't take a picture, I ate it too fast. If I was in the area in the future I would definitely stop by again.

Yelp
10/10 LOVED everything about this place. From trying to find it, to the ambiance, the food and the service. We went on a Monday (I believe), I made reservations in advance, so once we got in we were quickly seated. Our server was amazing! He recommended dishes and drinks for us. The beef carpaccio is a MUST!

Yelp
We had a blast at this hidden gem! Service was attentive and Sam took care of us and made the night spectacular. We loved the music and ambiance of this location. The food was amazing and we enjoyed every bite, will definitely check back again.

Yelp
We were recently staying near Dulles Airport for a trip. After seeing a lot of great reviews and the menu, we opted for dinner at Heirloom. We loved the happy hour menu and decided to do a reservation within that timeframe. Loved that happy hour was available at the bar and tables! The cocktails on the HH were great! The different types of glassware for each type of drink were stunning. We wanted to do a little bit of everything so tried the HH meatballs, short rib sliders, focaccia bread, mushroom ravioli and sea bass. Everything was incredible but we loved the sea bass the most! Sharif, our server, was amazing. He timed each course out perfectly and was present without being too overbearing. The interior was beautiful and romantic with low lighting and velvet green booths.

Yelp
Speakeasy restaurant right inside Open Road Distillery (subtle entrance by the restrooms)! The restaurant is dim lit and cute inside--it's fairly small, but we had reservations and were seated right away at a booth for four ppl. Overall food was okay. For starters, enjoyed the Blue Bay Mussels and Oysters Rockefeller--both well flavored, I kept dipping my bread in the mussel sauce. The Oysters only came in a set of 3, which I thought was an odd number and not enough for us--why not serve half dozen like most places. Beef Carpaccio and Caesar Salad were okay, nothing special. For entrees, the Spicy Bucatini and Shrimp Fettuccine pasta dishes were good but the portions are small, not shareable size. Most disappointing was the 24 oz. Prime Porterhouse Steak--so bland with no flavor, extremely underwhelming and a waste of $78--I expected better for this one. The Smoked Gouda Mac and Roasted Mushroom side dishes were pretty good. Since we were celebrating a birthday, the server brought out a small complimentary dessert with a candle, which was nice! We tried the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was delicious. Cocktails were made fine--drinks started off at $14. Service was okay--for a Monday night with not many people there, I would think service would be a bit more attentive--but aside from that, staff were friendly.

Yelp
Tucked away behind double doors, that to some might appear to be hidden, at the back of Open Road Distilling Co., Heirloom delivers an unforgettable speakeasy experience. From the moment you step inside, the vibe shifts--an elegant, dimly lit space with just enough energy to keep it vibrant without losing the sense of intimacy. My wife and I had such a great time here. Whether it was the thrill of finding it or the cozy yet upscale ambiance, it struck all the right notes. The food was on point: - The Tuna Carpaccio was delicate and flavorful--super fresh and beautifully plated. - The House Focaccia was warm and comforting, perfect for sharing. - The Caesar Salad--simple but done right, with crisp greens and a well-balanced dressing. - The Red Wine Braised Short Ribs--tender, rich, and deeply satisfying. Every bite melted in our mouths. A critique, I would have enjoyed it better if it was sweeter. But, it wasn't a deal breaker. This place is a hidden gem! It makes you feel like you've discovered a secret worth sharing. We'll absolutely be back.

Yelp
Heirloom is a hidden gem in the Reston area, offering an upscale speakeasy experience. It can be a bit tricky to find on your first visit. The address leads you to a brewery restaurant. Head to the back of the brewery, and you'll find a door with a rose handle. Once you open this door, your speakeasy experience begins. You'll pass through a second door and be greeted by the host. I recommend making reservations since it is always busy. The ambiance is romantic with a retro-modern look. All tables are candlelit, which can make it a bit dark if your eyesight isn't great. True to speakeasy tradition, they have excellent cocktails and traditional drinks, and the bar looks fantastic. The menu is limited, but the food was great. I love a good mac and cheese, and theirs did not disappoint. Heirloom is a great place for a date or a girls' night out, but I wouldn't recommend it for families with young kids. The prices are on the higher side, but they are part of the upscale experience and living in northern Virginia.

Yelp
Stopped by tonight and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Honestly I couldn't believe this was inside of Open Road and I absolutely loved the speakeasy vibe. I came with 2 others and we ordered the focaccia, the burrata, the sea bass, the scallops, the spicy bucatini (actually spicy and very good), the sticky toffee pudding (sooo good), and the apple tarte tatin (sooo good and very shareable). Everything was absolutely delicious. I honestly wasn't expecting much since RTC restaurants can only get so good, but this was downtown-DC-level tasty. Not to mention the extensive cocktail menu. (I tried both mocktails and they were both delish as well). I thought the whole "speakeasy" thing was just gonna be a big gimmick, but Heirloom honestly delivers impeccable service, amazing vibes, and quality food. Overall, I can't wait to come back here with friends and family and for special celebrations.

Yelp
Omg, the food. It was cool enough to enter through the brewery via an unmarked door like it's a secret spot only the in-crowd know, but... the food. Our waiter was there when we needed him and not when we didn't. The ambiance was lovely - dark paneling flavor with comfy benches - but not overwhelming. The drinks were excellent. But the food... the appetizer focaccia drowned in butter with three different spreads! The calamari perfectly fried with a nice salty breading and a light touch of sauce! The meatballs in sauce with more focaccia! Mussels with French fries - interesting, not my thing, but fine. But the short rib sliders with Gruyère and sweet pepper sauce will haunt my dreams. We finished with a cold chocolate hazelnut cream - yum - and a toffee pudding that moved us from satisfied to overwhelmed. Best dinner out in months.

Yelp
I kept hearing amazing things about Heirloom that had recently opened so I had to come check it out and it absolutely lived up to the hype!! To begin with the food - there was no going wrong with this menu. My friend and I split all the food we got and it was the perfect amount for us. We got the home made herb focaccia, mussels, wild mushroom ravioli and the chocolate dome - all of which were amazing. My personal favorite dish was the wild mushroom ravioli - the flavors were absolutely perfect. The service was a 10/10 as our waitress was super kind and helped us make the right decision on dessert as that chocolate dome is a must eat. The vibes inside were also phenomenal - the lighting is super dim inside and definitely gives off the ideal speakeasy vibe. I highly recommend checking this place out :) I will definitely be coming back again to try more of the menu items!

Yelp
It was super cute, the food was good, and we had a great time....but the cocktails (the main draw, allegedly the best in NOVA!) were just ok. I had the burger and the burrata, which did not disappoint. But literally all the cocktails were some variation of tequila or bitter (shrubs, amaro, aperol, etc) so I ended up just not picking a cocktail at all, to my great disappointment. My friends who did get cocktails (who like bitter and tequila-based drinks) said they were just ok. They should really work on the variety of things available to order, or I probably would not come back.

Yelp
Warning if you are looking for this speakeasy style restaurant in Open Road Distillery at RTC as there are no signs and you enter via a black door towards the back of the restaurant just before the restrooms. Of course, you can ask the hostesses and they will escort you back. It is a nice looking restaurant with a big bar to the left and tables to the right. There is also a nice sized event space that can hold approximately 14-18 folks so if you have a holiday/special event this is a good pick. I won't go into details as we ordered several dishes as appetizers but I will say they were all very tasty (gnocchi, ravioli, foccaccia, etc. Personally ordered the KC Strip and that was cooked on point and a flavorful piece of meat. Everyone was very pleased. Based on this first visit, a solid 4.5 stars. Definitely want to return and try the other dishes.

Yelp
I love the speakeasy look and feel that Heirloom presents, first and foremost. The restaurant is nestled in a distillery behind black doors. When you enter it has this dim aesthetic and looks very chic inside. The drinks were good, I tried one of the cocktails on their fall menu, Sparks of Joy. It has a hint of cinnamon in it, not overpowering but really perfect. The food was delicious too.. we had the spicy bucatini and the braised short rib. Overall, the experience was positive, the service was kind, and I think Heirloom makes the perfect date night or girls night out.

Yelp
We went on a date night at heirloom and loved the intimate speakeasy vibe. There is parking conveniently attached in a garage and you enter through these doors near the restroom in open road. Another set of double doors lead you to heirloom. We loved the drinks and appetizers we got. The focaccia bread was amazing, a must try! The service was prompt and I do recommend a reservation as their table seating was packed on a Friday night.

Yelp
I had a great experience. Attentive and nice staff. I had the short rib, baked shrimp, Caesar salad, focaccia. All were exceptional and well portioned. I will be back

Yelp
We celebrated our anniversary here and it was also my first time at a speakeasy! The vibes were darkly lit but classy and fancy (especially with a beautiful bar display). I definitely recommend making a reservation as the restaurant got crowded after we got seated. The food portions are pretty small but we were both impressed with the quality of the pasta dishes that we ordered. I recommend the spicy bucatini (it's not that spicy and I loved the texture of how they cooked their guanciale) and the mafalde genovese (if you love truffles, this is for you!!!!). I also thought that their cocktail was so fancy, especially with their rose shaped ice cube. We finished our meal with the chocolate Hazelnut dome and the service was amazing as they wrote "Happy Anniversary" for us on the dessert plate and had a candle for us too! We totally want to come back for happy hour next time and make sure you go inside Open Road to find this hidden gem!
