Helioterra Winery, Urban Winery, Tasting Room, and Wine Bar

We stopped by for an impromptu after-dinner drink on a girls weekend in Portland and it was the highlight of our weekend. In addition to the wines being amazing, Anne was so friendly and knowledgeable - not just about wines and winemaking but also catered to some in our group who didn’t drink alcohol, knowledgeably supporting other local beverage businesses. I loved hearing her story of getting into wine making and starting her own winery and all the amazing things she’s been a part of since opening. We were offered a behind-the-scenes tour and the step-by-step process and loved every minute - from the variety of wines, the story of the barrels and the quaint space. I also love how supportive she is of new wine makers and other women-owned businesses. I highly recommend this spot if you’re a local or if you’re just in town for a brief visit! Loads of local flavor!

What a gem, nestled in S.E. A wide range of delicious options to choose from. Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Blanc, Rosé, sparkling, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvédre, and of course Pinot Noir. Inside seating is an option with air conditioning, or outside on picnic tables with an umbrella. Dogs allowed outside. Bring a picnic. They also have food. Mitch was the star of the show. So friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. Very helpful and engaging. We really loved her!! They also have a space for events. 2-hour street parking available. We will definitely be back!!!

stopped by for a flight and the wine was delicious and Wendy is such a gem! she made us feel so welcome and we genuinely enjoyed helioterra. we will definitely be back on our next trip to portland!

Great value and experience. Everyone loved the wines and how fabulous its women owned but also the owner does so much to uplift the local community too. Most excellent party space and fun to tour and see how the wine making process works. Look forward to returning to this magical location.

This is a beautiful spot for an urban winery and tasting room. Shannon and Anne (the wine maker) are lovely people and so knowledgeable. I even got a peek inside the inner workings to get the visual answer to a question. I highly recommend this women owned and operated wine bar and winery.

Spectacular wine experience. Head upstairs and sip a glass straight from the barrel while looking out over red-stained casks. White wine is aged in a giant concrete egg and one of the Alter Ego ciders tastes like dry champagne.

I tasted Helioterra wine again tonight and was reminded of how incredible these wines are! I’ve tried many wines from Helioterra and I honestly don’t think there is one I haven’t enjoyed. Anne, the winemaker, is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate and it shows in her product. Highly recommend!

My wife and I came here a few days ago. It was the perfect crisp Fall day for a wine experience such as this. Missy took time to talk with us about their wine making process at Helioterra. Our side conversations with Missy naturally ricocheted into some inquisitive theoreticals pertaining wine and chemistry as well as some pleasantries about life. She gave us a little tour of the winery and effectively wrapped up our very pleasant experience into a nice wine lubricated bow. I highly recommend Helioterra for the wonderful wine, ambiance and overall tasteful experience.

Pretty good experience. The tasting room is pretty small, maybe could fit about 20 people. They do have a few tables outside as well. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was empty. I got the classic draft flight and my partner got the rose flight. Everything tasted ok, but nothing particularly stood out. Surprisingly my favorite was the rose. The Pinot noir which is usually my favorite was pretty dry. My knock on the place was that the whole time we were there, service was friendly but we were never explained the history of the winery or even given an overview of what we were tasting, it was just given to us. Would have liked to learn more, especially since I loved seeing that it is women owned!

What a gem! Anne is an extraordinary wine maker and host and produces some of the best wines all around in the city. We had their sauvignon blanc which was crisp and super special. I'd like to come back and sit on the outside front patio and split a bottle of it. A great location for an urban wine bar when you can't make it to the valley, or want to imbibe and take an easy Uber home!

I'm in love! I finally found a Pinot Noir that I can just drink alone, without pairing or recorking after 1 glass. Her 2015 Bjornson Vineyard is a game changer! We did a virtual tasting with Anne, the owner/maker, along with some friends on the east coast, with 6 of her 20 wines. They were all phenomenal. If Anne had a winery in Newberg, I would surely become a member. If you live in Portland, I'm not sure why you aren't, already. They are that good. And her great, down to earth conversation doesn't hurt, either. Can't wait to try the rest of her wines. I will have to make an exception and venture back out to Portland just to try the rest! They are definitely worth it.

Helioterra Wine Club Member #0001 here. I met Anne and joined the wine club In 2011 or 12. Since then she's been a great friend and all around amazing and awesome person. However, when I met her in 2010 she was just another person selling wine, and it was her wine that pulled me in(in addition to her previously mentioned awesomeness) Helioterra wines are absolutely the ideal of what an Oregon Pinot Noir should be: nuanced, feminine (can I say that and not be sexist), amazing mouthfeel and texture, strawberries and cream, and just an explosion of amazing flavors in each taste. In addition Anne makes some great "big" reds, like Syrah, and Mourvèdre, and she also does a cool climate Syrah that will change how you think about Syrah. Her whites are fantastic as well, and display all the traits and hallmarks of her art that make her reds so amazing. She's even branched out and made a sparking Grenache which has been a huge hit with many friends who don't know her or think of Oregon when buying bubbles. In summary, I'm biased and it shows. We've been friends (and I've been a customer ) for almost 10 years, but even if something were to happen and our friendship would end, I'd still be sneaking around and ordering her wines by the case. On top of the wines, she has a fantastic tasting room in close in SE which is worth your time to visit (and sample some of her amazing ciders as well). Looking for an urban winery tasting room with zero pretentiousness? This is it! Anne, the winemaker, makes elegant, sophisticated, pretty wine made with local fruit. The red flight consists of her Pinot Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre and is my go to choice. Great place to either bring a friend or chat with the friendly server!
