Helioterra Winery, Urban Winery, Tasting Room, and Wine Bar

Pretty good experience. The tasting room is pretty small, maybe could fit about 20 people. They do have a few tables outside as well. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was empty. I got the classic draft flight and my partner got the rose flight. Everything tasted ok, but nothing particularly stood out. Surprisingly my favorite was the rose. The Pinot noir which is usually my favorite was pretty dry. My knock on the place was that the whole time we were there, service was friendly but we were never explained the history of the winery or even given an overview of what we were tasting, it was just given to us. Would have liked to learn more, especially since I loved seeing that it is women owned!

What a gem! Anne is an extraordinary wine maker and host and produces some of the best wines all around in the city. We had their sauvignon blanc which was crisp and super special. I'd like to come back and sit on the outside front patio and split a bottle of it. A great location for an urban wine bar when you can't make it to the valley, or want to imbibe and take an easy Uber home!

I'm in love! I finally found a Pinot Noir that I can just drink alone, without pairing or recorking after 1 glass. Her 2015 Bjornson Vineyard is a game changer! We did a virtual tasting with Anne, the owner/maker, along with some friends on the east coast, with 6 of her 20 wines. They were all phenomenal. If Anne had a winery in Newberg, I would surely become a member. If you live in Portland, I'm not sure why you aren't, already. They are that good. And her great, down to earth conversation doesn't hurt, either. Can't wait to try the rest of her wines. I will have to make an exception and venture back out to Portland just to try the rest! They are definitely worth it.

Helioterra Wine Club Member #0001 here. I met Anne and joined the wine club In 2011 or 12. Since then she's been a great friend and all around amazing and awesome person. However, when I met her in 2010 she was just another person selling wine, and it was her wine that pulled me in(in addition to her previously mentioned awesomeness) Helioterra wines are absolutely the ideal of what an Oregon Pinot Noir should be: nuanced, feminine (can I say that and not be sexist), amazing mouthfeel and texture, strawberries and cream, and just an explosion of amazing flavors in each taste. In addition Anne makes some great "big" reds, like Syrah, and Mourvèdre, and she also does a cool climate Syrah that will change how you think about Syrah. Her whites are fantastic as well, and display all the traits and hallmarks of her art that make her reds so amazing. She's even branched out and made a sparking Grenache which has been a huge hit with many friends who don't know her or think of Oregon when buying bubbles. In summary, I'm biased and it shows. We've been friends (and I've been a customer ) for almost 10 years, but even if something were to happen and our friendship would end, I'd still be sneaking around and ordering her wines by the case. On top of the wines, she has a fantastic tasting room in close in SE which is worth your time to visit (and sample some of her amazing ciders as well). Looking for an urban winery tasting room with zero pretentiousness? This is it! Anne, the winemaker, makes elegant, sophisticated, pretty wine made with local fruit. The red flight consists of her Pinot Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre and is my go to choice. Great place to either bring a friend or chat with the friendly server!
