I've been going to Helix on and off for many years, and typically, it's a very relaxing place to grab a great beer. Last night, it was not the beer but the food situation.
They have a different food truck there daily, which is cool because it's always different. Last night, I met a colleague for beer and some food. I arrived early to grab a seat inside, and we enjoyed the New Zealand IPA.
My entire goal was to eat, and we were both hungry and assumed they'd be open past 7:30 p.m. I hesitated to get us up to go outside because I was losing my spot. In hindsight, I could have put a coaster on my beer (future tip). Here's my gripe: When I walked out, the food truck said we had just filled our last order. If I'm inside, how does anyone know when you're closing?
I brought this up to Kylie, who was incredible. She indicated, " Well, they've been here since 2:00 p.m. " This didn't answer how patrons knew when they were closing. Frankly (and I don't own a food truck), if a customer walked up while I was closing, I'd figure out some way to serve them, but let's leave that alone.
Still hungry, I closed my tab, and we headed to the Hills and ended up having a great meal. In the end, I spent more time at my second location than I did at Helix. Just a suggestion: Right next to the calendar, put up a quick sign with food hours; then, I don't have to sweat it, and I can enjoy a few more beers.
