Housed inside a gorgeous building that has been restored to reflect the building’s past, this contemporary art gallery shows a lot of promise not just for the Barrio art community, but the region’s art community. Excited to see the roster of shows this gallery lines up."

"Mercado del Barrio, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. A mixed-used plaza where Northgate Gonzalez Market is located. Also includes local micro-brew Iron Fist, MishMash burgers, Mariscos El Pulpo, and a couple other spots to grab some food or dessert. It’s a newer development to the changing face of Barrio Logan, but one with a couple gems worth visiting."

"Cafe Moto, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. A bastion of San Diego coffee roasting, Cafe Moto has been caffeinating San Diego since 1990. Beyond the delicious coffee and gorgeous Italian motor bike inspired branding, they have a cozy, hip interior that displays the small batch roasting operation, with a wholesale store in the back to boot."

"Ryan Bros, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. Another staple of local San Diego coffee roasting since 1994. Lovely industrial interior, featuring a menu including Ryan Bros food and other drinks besides coffee. A full gamut of patrons can be found sipping hot brew on the day-to-day: students, families, perma-lancers, etc."

"Tecture, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. This crew is technically an industrial design and fabrication studio, but they have shows occasionally that they time with the Barrio Logan art walks. They’re on the same block as a couple artist spaces, such as the Glashaus. Their work is phenomenal by itself, but time your visit with an art walk, and you’ll be in for a fun party with visuals for your brain and eyeballs."

"Bread & Salt, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. Technically sitting in Logan Heights, Bread & Salt is an art enthusiast’s attraction that’s a stones throw away from Barrio Logan. It sits in a beautiful old industrial building, with touches of modern renovations in the parts I’ve seen, including murals decorating parts of the exterior. There is a cluster of people that speak high praise about this gallery / event / studio / artist residency space, but I have yet to witness it in it’s full capacity. Only way to find out what’s going on is on their Facebook page, or through the KPBS and Reader websites."

"Gold Leaf Project / LWP Offices, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. As with a lot of places included in this list, The Gold Leaf Project / LWP Offices are a relatively new addition to Barrio Logan. The premise behind the Gold Leaf Project is that artists currently showing also install and display artwork on the streets of San Diego / Tijuana framed by these Rococo style gold-leaf frames. The point is to literally take art out of the gallery, but still display it as such in the context of the streets.LWP is a real estate developer who’s a big patron of the arts, and who also initiated the Gold Leaf Project. They’re responsible for a host of terrific apartment buildings, restaurants, and even hotels. The Gold Leaf Project is connected to their offices and they’re an awesome group of people, so don’t be shy and say hello when you walk in!"

"Cuatros Milpas, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. A staple in Barrio for authentic homemade Mexican food. Everything about this place bursts with character. From the cafeteria style line wrapping out the door, to the ladies behind the counter energetically preparing food and exchanging with customers, to the oddly perfect decor, to the tortilla factory in the back. I love this place! Oh yea, the food is really good and very affordable too! Get the rice and beans with whatever you order. Thank me later."

"Northgate Gonzalez Market, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. This is actually a fairly large chain of markets in Southern California, but they have the goods when it comes to Mexican food. Fresh tortillas. Insane salsa and meat selection. Mexican pastries. Mexican produce. 4 avocados for 5 bucks. Love the colors in the place. Playful signage — Stop reading, go here, and buy food now."

"Border X Brewing, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. I think one of the first microbreweries in Barrio Logan. They sport a cool interior with a large outdoor area in the back. Blood Saison was pretty tasty, perfect for a hot spring or summer day. They have some interesting stouts, which I didn't get to try. Chocolate and Horchata stout. Tacos were pretty darn good while drinking a beer, but it's very hard to beat Salud's quality tacos across the street."

"San Diego Vintage, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. Small vintage shop, but absolutely packed with rare stuff. Bought a brown and gold San Diego Padres "Brown Baggers" jersey with a drunk Swinging Friar on it. So in one stop, you can grab a coffee at Por Vida, crate dig for records at Beat Box, and then buy some vintage jerseys or kicks at SD Vintage, all at a great price and without pretentiousness. Challenge to leave without buying something!"

"Beat Box, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. The building that Por Vida is connected to is actually a curated network of small businesses and creative studios called La Vecindad (The Neighborhood). La Vecindad also houses Beat Box Records, and a hidden vintage store with some glorious treasures, San Diego Vintage. Bernie started with selling records online and accumulated a big enough collect to open this shop. Their main thing is selling records at prices that make sense, and that are meant to be played. Don’t miss the $1 section in crates on the floor."

"Chicano Park Skatepark, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. Pretty big skatepark under iconic Coronado Bridge. Not the most features for a skatepark, but a lot of real estate to play in a supremely unique setting."

"Por Vida, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. Delicious locally sourced coffee with a Mexican flair. The Horchata Latte is a fan favorite, but a personal favorite is the Espresso con Canela y Leche (espresso with sugar & milk). With beans provided by local roasters, James Coffee Co, it’s a game winner. They also have a small retail component that purveys local art, plants, and craft goods."

"Salud!, Barrio Logan by Product Etc.. One of a handful of taco spots in San Diego that pulls off legit TJ style tacos, located right next to La Bodega Gallery. The vibe of the interior is solid, with community style picnic tables, and walls covered with ephemera celebrating the Barrio and So-Cal culture. Don’t sleep out on their aqua fresca of the day, and def save room for their churro and ice cream dessert (it’ll serve two people unless you’re going big). Favorite tacos are the Taco De Barrio, Pollo Asado, Veggie, and can’t go wrong with the Carne Asada."

"Rare Form, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. Prohibition-esque bar with a twist! Banquet seating great for a large group and an awesome happy hour make this gourmet deli & sandwich spot one of our faves. Draft beer, cocktails, old-school bottled soda pop, small apps, soups...it's a perfect place to grab a bite. And it's really close to Petco Park so you just might see us there before or after a Padre game."

"Stone Brewing Tap Room, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. Yes, they're obviously known for their beer (on tap, bottles, growlers) but definitely don't underestimate their food (the flatbreads are delicious!). The feel of the place is woodsy and man cave-ish and is a cool hangout spot complete with board games and comfy seats."

"Coffee & Tea Collective, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. You can literally taste the quality at this small-batch roastery and tasting room. They specialize in a "by-the-cup experience" with different brews and loose leaf teas, but have also managed to create an atmosphere that's an experience all in its itself. Industrial, modern, airy, and one-of-a-kind."

"Quartyard, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. If we were forced to go somewhere everyday, this is our unanimous choice. It's a massive outdoor plaza with a resident eatery, coffee bar, rotating lineup of food trucks, craft beer garden, and a dog park. The vibe is urban & friendly & it's where locals go to socialize and enjoy the SD weather. Cop-a-squat on a picnic table and we'll see you there."

"Valentines, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. An amazing hole-in-the-wall with some of the most authentic Mexican food in town. With a family-run staff that has been there for decades, this staple serves the traditional favorites as well as the more trendy goodies like California burritos and pollo asado. Oh, and the diced carrots are a great addition to any plate."

"The Mission, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. This place rules. It's the best kind of healthy dining - it tastes so good, you don't even realize how healthy you're eating. This intimate corner restaurant is famous for their breakfasts (served all day) and a quarter of their menu features chino-latino flare which is unexpected and delicious. Affordable too!"

"San Diego Public Library, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. We've been waiting a long time for this project to complete! But, it was worth the wait. The architecture alone is worth the visit but while you're there, enjoy story after story of books, computers, private schools, cafes, and views. Or if you're just craving a little quiet time, this is definitely the spot to go."

"Bean Bar, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. Floor to ceiling windows light up this simple, minimal, little coffee corner. A small chalkboard menu will give you all the drinks and pastries you need, and no fluff means everything on the menu is good. It's well-made coffee done right."

"Basic Pizza, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. This pizza parlor, or warehouse, has a great industrial vibe and pumps out a simple yet satisfying menu of flatbread pizzas, salads, and drinks. Large roll-up garage doors keep the space light, cool, and welcoming on hot days. Pull up a chair, shoot some pool, and enjoy a warehouse that has obviously been a lot of interesting things in its lifetime. And then go back at night when it transforms into a popular hotspot until 2:00am."

"The Blind Burro, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. This is one of the nicer spots for Mexican food. They have solid happy hour deals, amazing street tacos, cool salads/bowls, and a weekend brunch that features bottomless mimosas. The mole and the cadillac margaritas aren't too bad either. Bonus: live music on Friday & Saturday nights."

"Water Grill, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. If oyster bars and lobster tails are your thing, then you've come to the right place. Part of the King Seafood chain of restaurants, this new addition to the neighborhood took no time at all to land on the hotspot list. With wide open interiors, an ideal location, and a handful of live tanks to handpick your dinner, this spot will undoubtedly please the high-end seafood fan. Or interior decorator fans...the massive restaurant has sea-themed accessories for days."

"Roast Coach Coffee Bar, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. It's exactly what it sounds like. A little coffee wagon parked at the curb, ready to slow-pour a single origin americano or a "dealers choice" (an iced brew energizer sweetened with homemade vanilla syrup with a dusting of cinnamon). It's a daily favorite at Fifty & Fifty."

"Tin Fish, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. San Diego is kind of known for seafood, and this is a great spot to give it a shot. Great locally-caught seasonal fish served as tacos, burritos, salads, and plates. Oh, and they have clam chowder bread bowls. Feel free to bring a group since there's plenty of outdoor seating, and enjoy a nice cold beer while you're at it."

"Lucky's Lunch Counter, East Village by Fifty & Fifty. Friendly local lunch counters still exist. This small indoor/outdoor neighborhood favorite offers an assortment of sandwiches, specials, and the unusual root beer of the month. The entire space has about 30 seats and has a mid-morning two-hour rush, but after that, you'll see the space empty and waiting for you. Enjoy their Reuben or build your own breakfast burrito if you get hungry early."

"Cucina Sorella, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. Cucina Sorella opened in 2016 and is, in our opinion, the best restaurant in Kensington and one of the best in the uptown area. With pasta made in-house, a creative drink list, and some of the best salads and sides around, we're delighted to welcome Cucina Sorella to the neighborhood.The roasted cauliflower and mascarpone polenta are must-try dishes. All of their primi and pasta dishes feature interesting and unexpected ingredient pairings that are sure to please even the most distinguished palates. Perfect for a night out with friends or a romantic dinner date, Cucina Sorella has ample indoor and outdoor seating, but be sure to make a reservation! Their bar and prep counter are full-service and are fun if you stop in without a reservation. Their quaint shop at the front of the restaurant is the perfect place to grab a gift for a friend or a unique item for your home."

"Moosie's Ice Cream, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. Moosie's serves up hand-made ice cream and sweet treats for the whole family. Grab a scoop or two of a classic flavor or try a premium flavor like red velvet cake! Pour on some homemade hot fudge and pick up a ready-to-go cake, trinkets, or candies made by local confectioners. This quaint little shop has a vintage vibe with seating both indoors and out."

"Ken Cinema, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. Ken Cinema is a one-screen theater that opened in 1946 and has been operational ever since. The first theater to bring foreign films to San Diego, the Ken still offers foreign films along with independent films and restored classics. Grab some popcorn and snacks and settle in to this intimate theater to catch a show you're not likely to find playing anywhere else."

"The Haven, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. Great for groups or a romantic dinner out, The Haven features a variety of creative pizza options or create your own. They also have pasta dishes and salads, plus a good selection of beers and wine. Dine indoors or out on their dog-friendly patio!"

"Kensington Club, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. The Ken Club is Kensington's one and only bar. It's nothing fancy, but it's served the neighborhood for decades and features local bands regularly. Stop by on a karaoke night or see a stand-up comedy show. On a night with no shows planned, it's always a great place to have a beer and shoot some pool."

"Bleu Boheme, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. Perfect for a romantic dinner out, Bleu Boheme enchants with rustic decor, dim lighting, and everything French from the music to menus. We recommend their lavender champagne and classic French onion soup to start. Dine on the patio for a more casual experience."

"Kensington Cafe, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. Kensington Cafe has long been the only local (read non-chain) coffee shop in Kensington. Morning after morning you'll find the same neighbors, some of them canine, enjoying a morning drink on the patio overlooking Adams Avenue. More than coffee and tea, you'll find a good selection of reasonably priced breakfast, lunch, and dinner items - many named after local streets, and all delicious."

"Stehly Farms, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. Stehly Farms Market boasts a wide-range of organic, local produce straight from Stehly Farms Organics, a 300 acre avocado and citrus farm in San Diego’s North County, and other local farms. You can't beat their prices on the freshest fruits and veggies. You'll find most things on your grocery list plus a wide array of prepared deli items, to-go entrees and sandwiches, and smoothies!Stehly farms also serves full meals and drinks which you can enjoy indoors in a small seating area or outside on their large, dog-friendly patio."

"Ponce's, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. In business since 1969, Ponce's is still family owned and has a line out the door every night. Current owner Ponce Jr. tells us their Tex-Mex menu has all your favorite comfort foods. The most popular items are the chile rellenos and carnitas, but his favorite things are family classics - the cheese enchilada and ground beef taco.The portions are big and the margaritas are strong, so come hungry! Ponce's is a great gathering place for families and groups, but make sure you make a reservation!"

"El Borrego, Kensington by Noble Intent Studio. El Borrego is a bright orange beacon amid the multitude of greige storefronts that line El Cajon Boulevard. Literally translating to "the lamb", El Borrego's specialty is lamb barbacoa - lamb slow cooked over an open fire, which is traditionally a specialty of the Hidalgo region of Mexico. Owners Rosaria and Rodina have been in business at this location for 11 years and say they cook about 2,000 pounds of lamb each month. In addition to their many lamb-based menu items, El Borrego carries your usual Mexican favorites and serves breakfast all day.Rosaria shared with us how the opening of the new YMCA just next door has brought in new business. They're now offering fresh raw juices and detox smoothies - perfect post-workout drinks! They've also found success in the catering business for local events.As we finished our meal, Rodina opened the back door of the restaurant and ushered us into a weed-filled, but surprisingly large outdoor space. She shared her plans of an outdoor beer garden, somewhat of a hipster hangout - something the east side of The Boulevard desperately needs. She said their in-process plans show it could seat 80 people and they'll soon be working out permitting and any other red tape they might encounter. She hopes to have something to show by the end of 2016."

"Helix Brewing Co., La Mesa by Caava Design. Helix Brewing Co. is the latest brewery to open in La Mesa to our delight. Its beer garden is designed perfectly for enjoying great weather while imbibing with friends and/or family. There's a gorgeous patio and game area that's poised perfectly to foster good old fashioned community and spirits. Their beer is great, made right there on spot and served up fresh. Food is always available via food trucks out front. Our personal favorite is pick up our own pizza to share as a group while sipping on their tasty suds."

"Riviera Supper Club, La Mesa by Caava Design. La Mesa is so fortunate to be the home of the unique and classic Riviera Supper Club. Step through its doors and one is transported to a 1960s era lounge. This place pulls off retro kitsch in an effortlessly cool way. Something especially unique about Riviera is the enormous grill in center of the room where patrons cook their own fat steak or swordfish while sipping on stiff, delicious cocktails. Owned and operated by the same gentleman who created Golden Hill's Turf Club (Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's favorite spot in San Diego back in the 50s), this place is an experience in itself."

"Bo-Beau Kitchen + Garden, La Mesa by Caava Design. Bo Beau has so many special things about it. The French-inspired American fusion cuisine is top-notch. Watch out for the fried brussels sprouts appetizer served with bacon and parmesan cheese, it’s been known to spark feeding frenzies. They have a great local and import beer list + cocktails. The interior is beautifully designed, bringing the right balance of hand-made and modern decor, giving patrons a warm, welcoming environment. The most notable part is their outdoor patio with globe-style string lights, expansive seating options and even a repurposed school bus for children to play on."

"Craft Kitchen, La Mesa by Caava Design. La Mesa has welcomed Craft Kitchen to the neighborhood with open arms. This place takes a simple, no-frills approach to delicious craft food and beer. Its well-rounded menu, extensive local beer selection, and comfortable environment makes Craft Kitchen a high-quality experience for the family or a meet-up with friends."

"Bolt Brewery, La Mesa by Caava Design. Bolt Brewery is La Mesa’s first local brewery. With all beer manufactured on-site, they constantly are pushing their creative, tasty brews to the locals. The outdoor biergarten is pleasantly laid out and great for big groups or just simply grabbing a pint with a couple friends. One can usually find some sort of event going on there whether it be the hilarious “Trivia Night” or a performance from a local band. Great place to enjoy San Diego weather and good beer."

"Cowles Mountain, La Mesa by Caava Design. Cowles Mountain is an easy 3 mile loop hike up one of the highest points in San Diego. Its summit is at 1,592 feet. At the top, the panoramic view allows one to see all the way to Mexico, the ocean, and north east county. It's a great way to experience the outdoors right in the heart of San Diego and is friendly to all fitness levels, even kids. Dogs are allowed too. Make sure to bring water, good hiking boots/shoes, and a camera!"

"Casa De Pico, La Mesa by Caava Design. Casa De Pico is a La Mesa staple. If one is looking for the festive nature and fun of Old Town San Diego, but without tourist crowds and better food, this is the place. Their delicious traditional Mexican cuisine (they make their own tortillas in-house) won’t disappoint. The traditional live Mariachi music is authentic and lighthearted. Overall Casa is a warm, open environment, lovely in-doors and out-doors. Be sure to sample their enchiladas and massive margaritas."

"The Hills Local Pub, La Mesa by Caava Design. The Hills is an all around good neighborhood pub. It's a place where everyone knows your name and is perfect for watching sports with the buds. The Hills owner is always giving back to the community with fund-raising-themed events that give proceeds from your bill to the "charity of the week". All around good fun!"

"Swami's Cafe, La Mesa by Caava Design. Best place in La Mesa for breakfast. While Swami's is not unique to La Mesa, they certainly stand above the rest with an extensive jaw-dropping breakfast menu. Their homemade chorizo jalapeno scramble will make the taste buds dance and the brow sweat. It's not all proteins and sugary carbs though, they have some mind-blowing Acai bowls that will inspire high-fives from health-nuts all around. Plus, an all-you-can-drink coffee bar will send one jittering through the rest of your day."

"La Torta Cafe, La Mesa by Caava Design. Enjoying great Mexican food while enjoying great San Diego weather is as good as it gets. At La Torta Cafe you can do both. There's nothing fancy about this place, just tasty, authentic food. Perfect for the Sunday brunch with the family or friends."

"Himalayan Cuisine, La Mesa by Caava Design. Founded and run by an immigrant family from Nepal, Himalayan Cuisine is outstanding. For the adventurous palette, one can count on a delicious, authentic experience. Before taking over the huge building next door, this place always had a line out the door. The service is incredible, and the food is second to none in its class in our humble opinion."

"West Coast BBQ, La Mesa by Caava Design. West Coast BBQ has the best BBQ food in La Mesa and probably the most extensive local craft beer selection. Located in a generic strip mall, don’t let appearances be deceiving, this place is for the serious foodie. The pulled pork is to die for and their insane garlic fries will inform those closest to you (or within a 20 foot radius) what you ate for about a week (not kidding)."

"North Park Farmers Market, North Park by Grizzly. Nothing beats a good farmers market on a sunny afternoon! Some 80 tents house farmers and vendors bringing their locally grown produce, artisan grocery items, prepared foods and hand-crafted goods every Thursday, rain-or-shine, to this family-friendly community event. Eat dinner, mingle with your neighbors and enjoy the outdoor setting."

"Modern Times Brewery, North Park by Grizzly. This unapologetic, beer-loving, San Diego local craft brewery is a staple of good beer and good design. With everything you could ever dream of on tap, Modern Times is literally slaying the local craft beer game and making waves across the nation."

"Underbelly, North Park by Grizzly. UnderBelly is a great spin on Japanese ramen-ya. Rooted in our local culture, which is reflected in the beer program, it ultimately serves as a tribute to a culture and food for which we have a deep appreciation and respect. This is a tribute to traditional Japanese ramen houses, specifically paying homage to the ramen gods of Tokyo."

Along with Coffee & Tea Collective, The Homebrewer was among the first to open up shop on The Boulevard. "Aloha Beach Club, North Park by Grizzly. A radical boutique shop for both men & women, Aloha Beach Club sits right in the heart of North Park. "Bivouac Ciderworks, North Park by Grizzly. If you’re in need of an adult beverage but are wanting a different vibe than a normal brewery, come check out Bivouac Ciderworks. This rock climbing influenced cider company embraces doing things differently. Adventure and nature are at the core of this brand and you can feel it when you walk into the tap room.If you’re real lucky, and not too inebriated, we highly suggest sitting in the hanging booth and image you're eating your meal on the side of Half Dome."

AKA is a combination custom screen-printing shop and clothing boutique. They don’t sell anything they owners themselves wouldn’t wear. They focus on apparel that isn’t available anywhere else in San Diego. If that wasn’t enough, they also sell urban art supplies to cater to even more local artists."

"Nomads Donuts, North Park by Grizzly. Who doesn’t love a good donut? What about a donut that gives back to the community? Nomad Donuts make handcrafted donuts using ingredients from local farmers markets. The menu is changing daily so make sure you stop by more than once and see what delicious treats you’ll be getting. A favorite of fisherman and locals cruising the docks, this market/restaurant has a wide assortment of fresh seafood that you can have cooked right there or packaged for you to enjoy at home. If you decide to eat there, make sure to grab a table on the upper deck where you can get an incredible view of San Diego Bay and the downtown city scape. It's also really awesome to see all of the sport fishing boats off loading the fish they caught."

"Jimmy's Famous American Tavern, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. Surrounded mostly by water, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a restaurant in Point Loma without a great view, and J-Fat’s is no exception! Located on the Point Loma Harbor, you can enjoy a nice breeze off the bay while enjoying Jimmy’s take on great American food. I’d recommend grabbing a table on the patio and taking full advantage of watching the boats, enjoying sunsets and the outdoor fire pits."

"The Cravory, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. Like your grandma's cookies times 1000. The only Cravory location is a small retail store that is located off of West Point Loma Blvd. It is great for quick pick-ups if you can't wait to feast on the cookies they sell at most of the Farmers Markets around San Diego. Put these cookies in your mouth as soon as possible."

"Kobey's Swap Meet, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. Kobey’s Swap Meet is the place to go, every Friday through Sunday. Find pretty much anything you can think of at low prices! Tons of vendors selling everything from star wars jewelry to surf boards. Go in with a plan, or get lost and find that hidden gem you never knew you always wanted. Be prepared to strike up conversation with some very interesting vendors."

"North Side Shack, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. The best impromptu sign I have ever read. "We reserve the right to refuse service no matter who you are, who you think you are, or who your daddy is. Unless he's George Clooney." Fresh juices made by good people. A must stop in Point Loma."

"NTC Park, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. A plane flying overhead every 5 minutes interrupts NTC Park’s peace and tranquility. This interruption is our favorite part of the park. It's a great spot in San Diego to watch planes take off. Wedged between Liberty station and the airpot. Check out the war cannons, play catch with your kids, or let your dog go off leash. This park is extremely under utilized for how nice it is."

"Cabrillo National Monument, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. Located at the furthest south point in Point Loma. Pack some binoculars to watch battle ships, cruise ships, and sail boats head out into the open ocean from the bay. Turn your gaze to the pacific ocean in January and you might catch a glimpse of the Grey Whale Migration. Make sure to head down to the tidal pools and light house at the bottom of the hill on the west side of the point."

"Embargo Grill, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. You wouldn't expect this place to be in one of Point Loma's many strip malls. They make tasty Cuban food and have a great selection of unique sodas. The owner, Hudi, has a one of a kind personality. He makes this spot friendly and entertaining. If he's working at Embargo you are in for entertaining conversation. We love the details, right down to the cooks wearing matching Cuban fedoras."

"Point Loma Books, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. Visiting this bookstore can be somewhat of a challenge. They don't have set hours of operation, but that’s part of its allure. The best time to try your luck is on weekday afternoons. If you get lucky, you will enjoy a selection of used books at great prices."

It’s the neighborhood bar, where it doesn’t matter if it’s your first time or your fiftieth time there, you’re always greeted with a warm welcome and a cold drink. We’d suggest ordering the Cobb Burger to go with your beer, just take our word for it, you wont’ be sorry. In addition to the impressive vintage beer cans and unique artwork on the walls, make sure to check out the game room in the back corner!"

The Point Loma Better Buzz shop is the newest of its 5 San Diego county locations. Why visit? Because “Life’s Better Buzzed!” Try the “Best Drink Ever,” a lactose-free vanilla Americano, renamed as such after so many customers were heard saying so. They also offer coffee alternatives, tasty treats, and apparel. In a rush? This location offers a super convenient drive-thru."

"Soda & Swine, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. Soda & Swine is a North Park favorite. They have recently opened a new location at Liberty Station. You get the same great food in a much more expansive and open environment. Enjoy some Bahn Mi sliders and a great selection of drinks without the long line of the original. We were pretty impressed by the Iron Maiden and Metallica themed server shirts."

"Bay City Brewing, Point Loma by LESS+MORE. Some may say the last thing we need in San Diego is another craft brewery. Meet the exception: Bay City Brewery. Beer crafted by guys who know beer? Check. View of the Sea World fireworks from the outdoor patio? Check. Just around the corner from the Swap Meet? Bonus check."

"Kindred, South Park. Kindred is an amazing new bar and restaurant serving up mystical cocktails and delectable dishes. Their style is a unique juxtaposition of feminine trappings with a hardcore metal aesthetic that you just have to see in person. The walls are covered with ornate pink wall paper that, upon closer inspection, depict eyeballs dueling it out with broadswords. The trim of the whole place is clean and dainty white and gold, with an inscription over the door that reads, "Hardcore will never die, but you will." When you visit, make sure to pay tribute to the glossy black four-eyed wolf-snake-skull totem mounted on the wall. Don't be intimidated though -- the staff are super friendly and the service is spot on. All of the plates and drinks are unique and tasty beyond expectations, so go forth and start your quest to try everything on the menu. Also, did we mention everything is vegan?! This fact will be an afterthought for you too when you try your first sip or bite at Kindred."

"Station Tavern & Burgers, South Park. Fresh air dining and craft beer in a dog and kid friendly environment. The menu is minimal but it's got all the staples for vegetarians and carnivores alike."

"Eclipse Chocolate, South Park. This popular chocolatier/bistro offers handcrafted confections and tasty brunch and dinner items. Come try one of their pairings which includes local craft beers or wines and delectable and uniquely-flavored truffles. If you want to nerd out on the science of chocolate, Eclipse has you covered with a large display that shows the process from "bean to bar"."

"Buona Forchetta, South Park. Neapolitan style pizza that can compete with the best of them. This charming restaurant is a neighborhood staple. Bring a big appetite and patience (especially on a weekend night). The wait is well worth it."
