The 9 Best Boba Shops In Houston

"At Hella Bubble, efficiency is the top priority. There are two Houston locations, but the River Oaks shop will have your drinks ready by the time you finish ordering. Their thai tea is potent enough to make any socialite ready to tackle a day of baccarat lamp shopping. And while it may not be the fanciest boba tea spot, it serves bouncy tapioca pearls that taste like they were made in the last 30 minutes, every time." - gianni greene

Such friendly staff! Upon entering and ordering, we were offered the option to make a mini sized milk bubble drink for our toddler. My daughter had always tried our bbtea previously but never had her own drink, so she was incredibly excited when we ordered one for her this time around (fresh milk with pearls $3). The milk tea my husband and I ordered was well balanced and not too strong/bitter, and the pearls were nice and chewy. Would come again!

Super friendly environment! Greeted by the cashier and answered all of our questions. The drinks were so delicious! Even my daughters loved it. Truly recommend!

Google
FANTASTIC boba spot in River Oaks, but honestly in all of Houston. I've gone to more than a dozen boba places in this city and this is, by far, the best. Staff is polite, the prices are very reasonable, and there's a myriad of drink selections to choose from; even if you wish to stay away from caffeine, there are a ton of options, and they're all delicious. It even smells good in here, for God's sake! Of note: the coffee-milk tea (the most refreshing coffee drink I've ever had), while the grape lemonade honey-lemon drink are excellent options for non-caffeinated options.

We arrived and upon reviewing the menus, nothing stood out to us. The establishment was clean and the staff were super nice! It is very modern and slick. The staff are bilingual. There is an excellent selection of drinks! If we are in the area again, we may get something.

Google
Hella Boba more like Hella good! This is the best bubble tea we’ve had outside of Taiwan. The bubbles are always fresh and warm just like they should be. The texture of the tapioca bubbles is fantastic. The service was a bit flat but as long as they have fresh tea and boba I'll be back. True review - not asked or rewarded for a review

Two days ago, on 8-4-2024, I ordered a matcha latte with boba at this store. While drinking it, I noticed something different get into my mouth. Right away, I spat it on the table where I was sitting. I noticed it was a small cockroach (image). I asked one of the employees to come and look at it, and she came and told me, "I did not see any cockroaches while making it," which was denying the issue (the bubble tea has a cover that makes it impossible for a cockroach to jump into). Then I pointed out that most likely it was in the boba, and then I asked to talk to her manager. Another employee came and suggested making another one for free while they had a cockroach in their boba pot. When I asked them to call their boss or store owner, they refused and told me they didn't have the phone number. Also, they refused to sell boba, and they were not even dumping the boba from the pot. When I asked them if they needed to dump that boba, they told me, "We will do it only if our boss says so." They were still selling to other people, so I had to tell the customers not to buy. Even they did not tell people who were sitting there and drinking the bubble tea with boba, and I had to go and tell the people. I waited for two days, and they even did not call me (I left my phone number there).

Google
A small boba store in Midtown so their price is higher than other places. But if you use Yelp check-in, they would give you a 20% discount. Store is very nice and clean. Employee is very friendly and helpful. I ordered kiwi fruit tea with aloe vera since it’s very popular here. But it is kinda sweet for me. My sister ordered Hella Bubble Milk Tea with 50% sugar and she said it was sweet for her too. I think we have to choose 30% next time if we come back. Overall, it is a good place to hangout with friends and I think I’ll come back for other drinks.

Google
Hella Bubble is a cozy spot for bubble tea, and while I wasn't a fan of the fresh taro smoothie I ordered, the owner kindly swapped it out for me, no charge. Their customer service was top-notch, making sure I left happy despite the mix-up. The place has a nice vibe and a good variety of bubble tea options. Overall, a friendly place worth checking out for a relaxed drink.

Yelp
Great customer service!!! Cute spot and good variety of drinks!! I ordered the coconut milk with coffee jelly and mango smoothie and the strawberry smoothie with poppin boba! Yummm We all enjoyed our drinks and honestly can't complain!! I like the fact that they give you the option to ask for less ice without getting upset like other spots!! They were in the process of training and loved how the attention to detail was on point!! Ambiance is very chill and comfy

Yelp
One of my favorite boba spots in the loop! It's been awhile but, they deff raised their prices. They do source their items from Taiwan, so I understand why. My go to drinks is the oolong milk tea with boba, Mango passion fruit green tea with boba or lychee jelly and their mango smoothie with icecream and boba. Their boba is qq and chewy. Some seating to chit chat or get some studying done. Parking - In front of the place or free in the parking garage Staff usually picks up the phone if you call ahead of time to order for to-go. The owner is also very nice and friendly as well.

Yelp
Hella Bubble exactly matches my expectations of how a boba tea shop would look in River Oaks. Its spotless and somewhat upscale interior is accompanied by marked up menu prices. $6-7.50 for a milk tea plus $1 for standard toppings (e.g. boba, grass jelly) significantly exceeds what you'd normally find in Bellaire or Katy's Chinatown. Then again, this isn't Chinatown; boba shops in River Oaks are currently few and far in between. At least this one stays open until 11pm. To Hella Bubble's credit, I thoroughly enjoyed my red bean milk tea. I don't recall seeing this drink on many menus elsewhere. It holds its own at 50% sweetness and no toppings. Service felt a little lackluster with cashiers keeping a straight face the entire time. I'm not sure if they called my name which resulted in my drink being left out for several minutes. I'm on the fence about revisiting even though my friends and I had a blast playing card games here. Neat tables and great drinks, but subpar prices.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bubble tea places (have visited 3 times)! It is located in a cute shopping center and if you are lucky, you may find parking right in front of the shop. I have tried the Hella Bubble Milk Tea as well as the Deluxe Milk Tea and liked them both but definitely prefer the original one. Service is always good, quick and the ambiance is pretty laid back, welcoming. There are so many options and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
It's been a fruitful (#1) journey for Hella Bubble, which has seen a lot of success in just these short 5 years which has spawned many reviews, numerous fanfare, and additional locations in the Heights, Kingwood, and even San Antonio. They've been one of the most popular boba spots in the loop and I don't see things slowing down anytime soon. Instead of competing with the many boba chains in places like Chinatown, they've made the strategic move to be in places where boba is an afterthought. It's smart move to be in a place like River Oaks and become a go-to option in the inner loop. The shop might be tiny, but the output is most certainly mighty. I've found myself coming here often over the years to indulge in their black and green teas, and I've always enjoyed their regular milk tea. Their oolong tea has also been a regular order for me and occasionally I dabble in their milk foam series as well as their smoothies. There's nothing groundbreaking here with the execution, but they've kept it relatively simple and I'm thankful for it. The last couple of times recently have been a little off with the customer service and my drinks have also been a little less satisfactory. I'm not sure if they're going through staff challenges but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt seeing as they've done so well in the past. Ultimately, they've capitalized on the boba craze and have done well for themselves. I wouldn't be surprised to see hella locations throughout Texas and I'll likely be riding (sipping) along at each of them at some point. ____________ (#1) Pun unintended.

Yelp
My Taro Milk Tea was super good! Very great flavor that was the perfect sweetness. I took my drink to go, however it did seem like a chill environment to have casual conversation. The worker wasn't the friendliest... her demeanor was quite dry when I asked questions (it was my first time in). But Overall I would go back and try out other flavors!
google avatar

Destiny L.

Yelp
Ordered the slightly sweet mango and passion fruit green tea with lychee jelly. The tea itself was delicious and I can't imagine if it was any sweeter than 30%. The lychee jelly was definitely very overwhelming after a while and I just wanted to be drinking tea and not anymore jelly. A lot of good variety on the menu and would definitely return to try some of the other beverages!

Yelp
Always quick service - great place to do some work; not too loud. I love that the boba is always nice and warm against the cold milk tea. Could be a bit firmer but not a big deal. The staff is friendly and they open till 11pm which makes for a nice late night treat!
google avatar

Julie V.

Yelp
First of all, I love that they are open till 11pm for those late night bubble tea cravings. Came here and decided to branch out and try something different so I got the mango green tea which seemed pretty unique. It turned out to be an excellent choice! It was delicious and the boba was sooooo fresh even at 10:30 at night. Though the drink was very sweet so next time I go back I will definitely be decreasing the sugar level. Can't wait to sample the rest of the menu!

Yelp
This is a nice boba shop in River Oaks. They have a pretty standard drink selection. I opted for the taro milk tea. It was delicious, however the boba was really mushy. I read other reviews that said the same thing, so I think they should look into the consistency of the tapioca. I got 30% sweetness, and it was pretty sweet. I could taste the brown sugar as it hadn't dissolved, which made it really flavourful. The price surprisingly wasn't super high for such a large drink and considering the neighbourhood. They have wifi, and I saw some people doing work on their laptops. The small plaza parking lot was full, but there was a good amount of street parking behind the shop.
google avatar

Yelp
I enjoyed a tasty kiwi tea here on a hot day. This place gets 5 stars for the cleanliness of the restaurant, promptness of service, and unique menu items like the kiwi tea. I like that they let you customize your ice and sweetness levels as well.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my husband and i's favorite boba shop we have ever tried!!! The best part by far is the boba itself. It's so tender and soft. We were shocked by how great the boba itself was! The price is steeper than other boba shops but we overall thought it was worth it. We got the winter melon milk tea and it was a great flavor and so enjoyable with the boba!
google avatar

Ann S.

Yelp
Tried their coffee milk tea with milk foam. It was ok. You can taste the coffee a little bit. The milk foam was a nice touch because it has a saltiness to it. I didn't alter the sugar, ice level, or add other any topping like boba. It definitely had a little too much ice for my liking. The sugar amount was decent. It wasn't that sweet. Also, they don't give out samples. Overall it's a good place to meet up with a friend or come with your laptop to study/work. The size is similar to 2 nearby Teahouse locations.

Yelp
Tried this place out on Saturday night after dinner and we definitely enjoyed it! They have tons of great options and such a cute little restaurant. I tried the Thai milk tea with foam and boba - tasted great! My boyfriend tried the coffee smoothie and it was pretty good, sweet for my taste but he really liked it. Tasted like the Starbucks frappe in a glass jar from the store. Highly recommend trying them out and we'll certainly be back when we are in the area

Yelp
Cute boba shop in the Galleria area! Perfect spot for a difference scenery for a work from home office which a lot of people seem to do. Really clean with lots of seating. It's cozy and welcoming with jamming tunes playing. The parking can be tricky during peak traffic hours so schedule visiting this area. There is a parking garage in the back which you can park at also. I tried the Hella Bubble Milk Tea which seems to be a popular item. It's a classic milk tea which flavor subtle and not too sweet which I love! The boba is really soft and not as chewy so if that's your cup of tea then this will hit the spot for you! It wasn't too busy ordering drink when I came around 5:10pm. So I ordered and got my drink quickly!

Yelp
My all time favorite place to go. Winter melon with Aloe Vera and 30% lemon. Great job Hella Bubble. And the business owner is super friendly. Thank you

Yelp
If I could give it a zero I would. This place used to be my favorite boba spot in Houston but the service has been terrible recently. The employees don't know how to answer simple questions about the drinks. The employees are always loud and the music is either loud or very quiet. Theres also are cockroaches around the place. I don't know what happened since I last came but it is very different, least to say I'm disappointed.

Yelp
I got a mango passion fruit green tea with lychee jelly. The interior of this place was really cute. My boba came out fast as well, so I appreciate the fast service. The actual boba was just okay, I wish it was a little more sweet (even though I always usually order regular sweetness).
google avatar

Yelp
I needed to kill some time in between appointments, so I decided to stop at Hella Bubble for a quick drink. The location was extremely clean, and my server was very mannerly. I ordered the mango and passion fruit tea with lychee, and to my surprise, it was not overly sweet, which I loved. My drink was made quickly, the menu was user friendly and readable, and I loved that there were suggestions to calculate your preferred sweetness level. I'd highly recommend Hella Bubble for a casual (first) date or small group hang out spot.

Yelp
I'm beyond disappointed with this place. I've visited countless boba and food spots, but I've never experienced anything like this. I'm a UGC creator and was planning to create a free video for them because we were in the area. My daughter wanted boba, so I looked up a nearby spot, and this one came up. From the moment I walked in, I felt unwelcome. Even though there were three staff members, I stood there waiting for 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. I've been to so many teahouses--Ding Tea is one of my favorites--and I've always been treated with kindness and respect. Then, my 3-year-old daughter accidentally dropped her drink. I immediately felt terrible and apologized. I understand that accidents are frustrating, but the staff's attitude was shocking. Instead of showing a little compassion, they were visibly annoyed and made us feel like we didn't belong there. Kids will be kids, and I wasn't expecting special treatment, but to be treated so rudely is unacceptable. Customer service? 0/10. The drinks? 3/10--and that's being generous. Their attitude? 0/10. It was obvious they didn't want to make the replacement drink. When I went up to ask politely if I could get a new one, they just glared at me and, with so much frustration, said, "We'll do it once we clean this up..." I apologized again, trying to be understanding. When they finally handed me the drink, the vibe was just cold--filled with attitude. The girls behind the counter looked like they couldn't wait to be anywhere else. I've never felt so unwanted at any boba or food spot. This experience was so upsetting, and I will never be coming back here again.
google avatar

Erika O.

Yelp
I got the mango green milk tea which is my favorite at sharetea and it was definitely just as good! Tapioca was super fresh and soft. I asked for 50% sweetness and it was just the right amount. The store was decorated for Halloween and it was super cute.
google avatar

Carolina B.

Yelp
I could've sworn I've reviewed this place... but alas, maybe it changed its name? Idk. All I know is I strictly come here due to location convenience. I love taking my kids here and they do enjoy their drinks. However, any time I ask a question about a drink I've never tried, I don't get a coherent response, and I have yet to encounter a staff member that both looks directly at me and smiles. They seem sluggish and not super happy with their current situation. Maybe I'm reading into it too much. It's a cute place, but parking is kind of a B.
google avatar

Julianne D.

Yelp
This establishment is quite similar to Teahouse, but maybe a bit more pricey. Parking would've been a joke if we wouldn't have gone after hours. Upon arrival, parking was very limited for the stores nearby. There were only a couple of spots open when we arrived. Upon arrival, we were behind two groups which seemed to take forever to order. The cashier seemed to be a bit slow, too. I ended up ordering the taro milk tea along with two other beverages. All had decent taste. Overall, an ok experience. Would I be back? Possibly if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.
google avatar

Marjorie S.

Yelp
Wow first time here and wish I didn't live so far. I tried the Thai tea with boba and it's one of the best I've ever had! It wasn't overly sweet like how you would get at typical places, it was creamy, super refreshing and they don't skimp out on the boba- which was cooked perfectly! My son ordered the strawberry smoothie sans foam and lychee jelly but he said he couldn't taste the strawberries on it. The place is nice and clean, the ladies were friendly and efficient. The a/c was on full blast so that was truly appreciated in this heat wave but the music was too loud for my liking lol.
google avatar

Stephanie Z.

Yelp
Hella Bubble is a great place to get some refreshing and tasty drinks! I like the fruit teas the best from here, especially the kiwi and mango passion fruit. Both are really light and sweet, so I'd recommend getting less sugar. I think the aloe vera and jellies went the best with the fruit teas. I've also had the matcha with red bean and the taro drinks which were pretty good too. The matcha has plenty of matcha flavor, and the red bean on the bottom complemented the drink well. The taro was different from other boba places as they use real taro as opposed to the flavoring, so it had a different but still good taste (kind of vanilla, nutty, sweet potato mix?). The taro is thicker than the other drinks, similar to a smoothie in consistency. The service here is fast, and I've almost always gotten my drink in 10 minutes or less. The drinks are pricier than other boba places. It's located in a busy plaza with a little parking in the front and some street parking in the back. I would say it's a bit too loud for studying but has good vibes for hanging out.
google avatar

Karla C.

Yelp
Late night out and craving some boba so I looked up boba places near me and found this one. The parking lot is pretty small and is shared with several other businesses but on a Saturday night we found parking easy. The store is bright and cheery and very clean and the service was quick. I tried out the Thai Tea with boba and egg pudding, and my bf got the Coffee Smoothie with icecream. I reallly enjoyed my drink, the Thai tea tasted nice and wasnt overly sweet, the boba and egg pudding were really good as well. The coffee smoothie was surprisingly good, but the icecream does make it very sweet. Overall really liked this spot and I plan on coming back to try more of their drink options.
google avatar

Kathy M.

Yelp
I really like this place! I've been here a handful of times now and my go-to is always wintermelon milk tea with boba. PROS: - clean establishment - they give a generous amount of boba - it's not too sweet, I didn't even lower the sweetness level - high quality CONS - pricey $$ I get it, it's in River Oaks, one of the richest parts of Houston. They gotta pay rent. Hella Bubble is consistent and doesn't disappoint!
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Great place if you are looking to get your boba fix. The boba is soft and chewy, and the milk tea isn't too sweet. The Thai tea has a nice roasted flavor to it. Overall, I would definitely make a trip back here again! The manager/workers were also sweet.
google avatar

Briana G.

Yelp
I was shopping the River Oaks area and felt I needed a little pick me up and thought getting Boba tea would be the best option. Hella Bubble came up on my maps and went their and was not disappointed. I ordered the Thai Tea with Boba and normal sweetener. The cups were so cute, and my drink was so tasty and left me a little full! The service was okay. I didn't feel like the people their wanted to help me understand the menu and they seemed impatient.
google avatar

Ana P.

Yelp
Over the past couple of months this place has gone from being one of my favorite boba spots to one that has become so disappointing to visit. First off, I noticed how much prices have gone up. I sometimes end up paying around $8-$9 for my bubble tea. Today though was very disappointing because I got a Thai Tea which included no tapioca bubbles. I don't understand why a bubble tea place would not include the boba. In the past, this never seemed to be a thing where I needed to ask for the tapioca separately. They didn't ask me if I wanted tapioca or specify that tapioca was not included in the drink. I wouldn't recommend this place in Houston as there are other places with better prices and that do include the tapioca in your drink without having to pay extra. Side Note: You used to be able to check-in on yelp and get 20% off but that was taken away a couple of months ago.
google avatar

Nina V.

Yelp
This boba shop is great because it has late hours for hangouts. I personally don't think the drinks are amazing but they do the trick when you're craving. The boba here is also just extremely soft and don't have that chew/bite I look for in the pearls. Never had an issue with parking. There's a good amount of seating but the shop does get busy with customers so you might have to wait.
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday evening and got the lemon honey aloe at 50% sweetness, which was refreshing and a perfect balance of tart and sweet. I wanted to do the 30% sweetness (my default), but they told me that 50% is the lowest possible for this drink. Their strawberry smoothie is also very good. The ambiance is bright and welcoming. Service is friendly. There is lot parking out front and a nearby garage as well.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
After so much Texas barbecue, I had to get something refreshing. Came here and got the kiwi fruit tea with aloe vera and it did not disappoint. It is a bit on the sweet side but they have option for less sweet. Overall, a good drink spot. I will come back. I recommend it.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Got a Thai tea I usually like more half and half, so I drank from the top and my milk was chunky. Also my boba tasted watery and old. I complained to the owner I believe his name was Titan. He became very defensive and started yelling at me and using profanity. Stay away from this hell hole!!!
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
In the realm of boba tea, there are shops, and then there's Hella Bubble--a delightful discovery after a Sunday lunch pursuit of dessert. Tucked away on an unassuming street, stumbling upon this gem was serendipitous. With a modest order of two items, the tapioca pearls stole the spotlight. Their uniquely sweetened texture and unmatched freshness left a lasting impression. For any boba tea enthusiast, Hella Bubble is a must-visit--you're bound to be impressed.
google avatar

Abbie D.

Yelp
I have been coming here and every time the taste just keep getting worse today the boba was overcooked it just melts with the drink and NOT in a good way and the milk tea is watered down cant taste any sweetness just the tea and bitterness. I used to love this boba shop, but the quality hasn't been up to par and the store has been a little dirty. The service was great before, but lately it has been very bad. The cashier had an attitude, please train your employees better.

Brandie M.

Yelp
Vibes were cool - very clean inside, people were nice, music was good. The taro milk tea was delicious. Milk foam on top was very good and thick. I will definitely be back. Would like to try something w coffee and that foam, smoothies sounded good too.

Yelp
I happened to be walking by this place and was in need of caffeine so my friend and I stopped in. I don't drink boba much so I wasn't sure what I wanted. The lady at the counter was really nice and asked me if there was something in particular I wanted. I really was in the mood for coffee so she suggested the coffee milk tea. She explained that it's black tea, coffee powder, non-dairy creamer, and brown sugar. This was great because I don't tolerate lactose. I opted to get mine without any boba, jelly, or anything because I don't care for the texture. My friend ordered the same thing with boba. I didn't even realize I could order it less sweet, but it was really good. I could really taste the tea and coffee which was different. My drink definitely gave me the caffeine fix that I was needing. Tip: Don't forget to check in before you order! I checked in after and realized I could have used a 20% off coupon. I'll be sure to use it next time!

Yelp
Amazing variety of drinks here! The classic bubble milk tea is great, but my favorites are the milk foam drinks. I especially recommend the Wintermelon Tea Milk Foam (50% sweet!) and the Matcha Green Tea Milk Foam. Everything I've tried here has tasted great; I highly recommend if you are looking for good boba/drinks in the area. The only downside and the reason this has 4/5 stars is the price--this place is really expensive. I usually pay around $7.50 for a drink. :(

Yelp
First time here and it was okay. I will return and try more on the menu next time! Service was fast and it's a nice little place to sit,sip and chat

Yelp
Mango green milk tea. Definitely get 50%! Drinks were honestly just decent. Pretty westernized milk tea, with mild to no tea flavor. Mostly reliant on its sugar, dairy and additives for flavor. The other major con is the boba. It was NOT chewy, nor sweet on its own. Definitely overcooked. I was excited that they had mini boba but both it and the regular boba lacked and structure. Also it's expensive. Each drink, plus a topping, is over $6. For just sweetened, flavored milk and over done boba? Naw. See those two stars? That's for the clean interior and extra nice customer service. The ppl that worked there are super kind and helpful. They suggested I get 50% on my drink and thank god. It tasted like normal, still slightly too sweet, melted mango milk.

Yelp
One of the best boba places in Houston in my opinion! Their boba texture is almost always ideal - I have gotten a mushy batch here and there at the end of the day but with their long hours I'd expect that! I'd recommend the hella bubble deluxe milk tea and the winter melon milk tea - both super good esp if you adjust the sweetness to be lower. Kiwi tea is yummy too! I've tried half the menu at this point and you really can't go wrong with anything. This is also a good place to get work done if you don't mind slightly louder music - there is free wifi and outlets near almost all the seats. :) It's a cute space and the Staff and owner r also super nice!

Yelp
Oolong milk foam tea with Boba, no ice, no sugar. The drink was perfect and exactly what I wanted. The tapioca was chewy. The foam balanced my tea and the ratio of drink to foam to tapioca was perfect. Drinks were made fast. Orders were placed fast. Interior clean. Cashier was polite. Tiolet was clean. Price a tad high but worth it to me. My friends didn't enjoy their drinks though. The wintermelon is a syrup. The taro doesn't come with taro balls and they use taro powder. I appreciate the honesty of their drinks.

Yelp
Probably the best boba that I've had in a while. The tea was so smooth and creamy, and the boba had the perfect consistency! They were so sweet and chewy, and a lot was given in my cup. The price of the boba was expensive but honestly around the same price that other boba places charge now. I will definitely be back, so good!!

Yelp
Why 4 stars? Because the "real taro" was definitely unique. --- --- ---- At boba shops, I usually opt for smoothies, and I'm a sucker for basic taro, so this was a pretty easy choice for me. However, I do with there was a note on the menu that indicated more clearly that this is like *actual* taro, not the super purple, artificial (but delicious) flavoring that we're all used to at this point. So while this drink was very minimally sweet, the nice thing about it is that you didn't feel gross after drinking it. It was pretty refreshing, but without being heavy. Granted, I came here being very okay with drinking something heavy, so I was a little bummed, but I'm glad I ordered it, in the end. With that being said, for my next visit, I will probably try another item. If only I didn't live an hour+ away, or I'd make visit #2 happen in the very near future. For now, I'll just have to leave it on the list of places I might visit when I'm in the area again.

Yelp
Awesome boba shop, located in a very nice and "upscale" plaza! Located just a few short minutes away from the Galleria. I recommend the Milk Tea with the mini-pearls/boba. Very clean facility and friendly service. Will be back!
