12 Perfect Picnic Spots in San Francisco - Eater SF

"This is hardly strictly the only place to spend a leisurely hour in Golden Gate Park, but of all the stretches of well-tended greenery to stretch out on, it’s one of the most persistently in-demand. Before a 2011 renaming, this was known as Speedway Meadow, commemorating a time when latter-day San Francsicans engaged in horse-and-buggy races through the hollow — yes, really. Now of course it’s more famous as the park’s best music venue, but those who live nearby have the privilege of enjoying the picturesque park-within-a-park anytime. What to pack: To-go tiki drinks from Trad’r Sam Trad’r Sam is reportedly the oldest tiki bar in the U.S., opened right “after” the Prohibition — so you know that their to-go cocktail game is strong. Walk-up orders are the only way to go, as they’re not ones for online ordering — but they serve fast, and this drinks are dangerously delicious." - Eve Batey, Adam Brinklow, Becky Duffett

Beautiful park area in Golden Gate Park, with tables and plenty of open space. Easy to find as well, just follow the google maps location

Nice and quiet area to spend sunny weekend with your friends. There are not many spots for BBQ, so being there around noon is my friendly advice. Be aware of people who are saying they booked their spot online. I'm not sure about that.

Love Golden Gate Park, and this part is great for any kind of meet up or party. Took our infant grandchild for her first outing Sunday and enjoyed a family picnic here. Fun to see all of the families enjoying time in the park. A SF gem.

Beautiful park. Lots of wildlife, a pond and waterfall. Be careful because there were some smash and grabs.

It’s really good. When it’s sunny expect lots of people playing, doing bbq, drinking. Expect dogs all over without leash. Sometimes is hard to park on weekends.

Attended Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival. Always three days of incredible music good food mellow people. Thousands of us and not one incident of violence. Put it on your Bucket list. A uniquely SF experience not to be missed.

Enormous park where Las Lomas High School comes each year to run a Cross Country race. It can be a bit muddy and difficult to park when busy but it’s by far, the most beautiful place to run. Of course, I’m just a spectator but you get the idea.

Look at the tiny water at the end of the hollow way, is the Pacific Ocean. Today is a little foggy summer day at Golden Gate Park. I have been this place "Hellman Hollow" for many times, a crowd enjoys the pleasant environment during weekend. A reason of famous story attaches to the restroom available within the walkable proximity. Love SF ❤ Love GGP.
