The Biggest Los Angeles Restaurant Openings in September 2024 | Eater LA

"When this Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe opened on September 6 in the shopping district directly outside Universal Studios Hollywood, I was struck by the over-the-top pink design aimed at mega fans and the adjacent Sanrio Smile Shop; the grab-and-go cafe menu leans into Sanrio-themed desserts and drinks, including a red dome-shaped cake with cinnamon mousse, apple pie filling, and cinnamon streusel, a Keroppi frozen matcha latte, and a Tuxedo Sam blue raspberry lemonade." - Eater Staff

A Car Crash Badly Damages 58-Year-Old Bob’s Big Boy Statue in Downey | Eater LA

"I observed that crowds lined up at 2 a.m. the night before Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe opened on September 6 at Universal CityWalk; some people even drove hundreds of miles to be the first in line, and the Los Angeles Times captured the scene." - Mona Holmes

Inside LA’s First Hello Kitty Cafe at Universal CityWalk | Eater LA

"At the outdoor shopping district outside Universal Studios Hollywood, I visited Los Angeles’s first Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe, which opened on Friday, September 6; its storefront sports pink-and-white-striped awnings and a peek-a-boo pink bow above the entrance. The walk-up, grab-and-go menu is a sugary, social-media-ready parade of Sanrio-themed desserts and drinks: the signature red chocolate dome-shaped cake is filled with cinnamon mousse, apple pie filling, and cinnamon streusel, and seasonal mousse domes inspired by Hello Kitty’s friends (each crafted uniquely based on their personalities) will appear periodically. The birthday cake layers a sprinkle-dotted confetti cake with white chocolate mousse and a whipped white chocolate ganache, while other cakes use fresh fruit jams to fuse their layers. Portable options include macarons in raspberry, caramel, vanilla, pistachio, and chocolate; berry-stuffed churros with cream cheese frosting; and a Hello Kitty-shaped sugar cookie decorated with royal icing and rainbow sprinkles. The half-dozen character-inspired drinks range from a Keroppi frozen matcha latte as green as its amphibious muse to a Tuxedo Sam blue raspberry lemonade garnished with a lemon slice. Customers can linger at umbrella-covered tables outside or take everything to go, and admission to Universal Studios Hollywood is not required for entry." - Cathy Chaplin

LA’s First-Ever Hello Kitty Cafe Is Opening at Universal CityWalk | Eater LA

"I saw Universal Studios Hollywood announce on Instagram that a Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe is opening at Universal CityWalk; the park currently sells Sanrio merchandise only on its Upper Lot and has not had any standalone restaurants or stores dedicated to the characters. A Universal representative told Eater the new openings will be located “close to the park entrance,” and some online forums suspect the cafe could take over the now-closed Francesca’s or the nearby Chick Chick Chicken. I also noted Angelenos got a taste of Hello Kitty mania in 2017 when the Santa Anita mall hosted a yearlong Hello Kitty residency, and Hello Kitty Cafe currently operates outposts at the Irvine Spectrum (Orange County), Fashion Show and Park MGM in Las Vegas, and in Vancouver." - Cathy Chaplin

The food here is really just ok. We all had mixed feelings on a lot of the things we tried. I thought the winner by far was the ube chocolate mousse cake. My kids preferred the cinnamon mousse cake. No one cared for the strawberry cake. No one is in a hurry to go back again, if ever. It sure is cute to look at, though, and it was fun to try.

The staff are not aware of their own food but that's ok it's a busy place and get it. However what really disappointed me was the quality of the desserts. The hello kitty cookie is the most mid $6 cookie I've ever had. The churro felt like it was made in a factory 🏭 and the My Melody cake was just ok, nothing special. I expected more for my money.

My wife wanted to come here and try this place so I of course took her tonight on a Friday. At first the line looked busy but when you get closer, you'll see that there a line for a store next to it and another line for the Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe. The line wasnt long so we got in it and I was looking at their menu. I read other people review and they said the churros is not good. So I went with the Hello Kitty cookie and my wife got the Hello Kitty Strawberry Green Iced Tea because the worker said it's less sweet. They give us a pager to where it would vibrate when our order was ready. We found a table near the pickup area and sat there. The moment we sat down, the pager started vibrating and I went to pick up our order. My wife likes the Green Iced Tea but since they put sugar around the lip, your hands will get sticky. The cookie was fine as well so I would recommend getting that and even though is pricey, keep in mind that this is city walk.

Love the cute desserts and the service is good, the only thing you should keep in mind when planning to go here is that there is no indoor seating it's all outdoors and there aren't a lot of chairs and tables. So if you go during the day it might be hot and in the sun. My cake was delicious but a little melty.

This is only for aesthetics purposes. They barely have 10 tables available. This is only meant for you to buy and leave to either the park or the rest of City Walk. I personally didn't care for it. Kiddos liked the experience. It is pricey and everything is very, very sweet.

This is a cute location. The menu is different from the other hello kitty cafes. The wait time wasn't bad at all, even though the line was pretty long. Theirs only a few tables. I got lucky enough to find seating, but it's mostly to go.

I recently stopped by the Hello Kitty Cafe at Universal City and while the atmosphere was undeniably adorable, I was a bit disappointed with the offerings. Compared to other locations like Irvine or Vegas, the was no merchandise and the selection of food and drinks was limited. I was hoping for a classic latte but was surprised to find only a Macha latte on the menu. The rest of the options seemed to be various lemonades. The macarons were delicious and so was the cake. The presentation was very cute. The lack of seating was also a bit of a bummer. It's a great spot for a quick bite or drink on your way to Universal Studios, but I wouldn't recommend making a special trip just for the cafe.

We ordered the chocolate cake item, a cookie, and berry churro. The cake was good but it fell to pieces bc of the way it's made. The bright pink berry sauce on the churro was too much sweet for us. The cookie was as I expected.
