Haven’t been since they were in Detroit like back in 2014… now I’ve visited the most recent location and I friggin love it… Tyler one of the staff is an excellent and very cool guy… He’s very knowledgeable on music and especially movies which is a plus…. They have an amazing selection of physical media and music…

Google
I have been relying Hello Records for birthday and Xmas presents for my vinyl record collecting friends for about 2 years now. They also have a nice section of CDs for me. They have some unusual stuff here! Everything I bought here was in great condition and the prices seem better than some places I have seen.

Brianna Albaugh

Google
Lots of good albums for great prices! I was having a hard time finding a few albums and the gentleman behind the counter helped me look!

Brenna Cavanaugh

Google
My favorite record store in Michigan. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, pricing is so reasonable. I always find something when I pop in.

Google
It was the best when it was in Corktown and continues to be the best. The most well curated record shop around Detroit, where I'm constantly finding new and used gems in punk, jazz and electronic. Wade and the staff are all the nicest people and I go out of my way to shop with them.

Joe Lockhart

Google
Nice little independent used record shop, Decent prices and helpful staff. But it is a little bit of a blink and you'll miss it place could use better signage but worth a stop.

Google
What a gem Downriver! Great selection of used albums, very reasonably priced. Found several keepers and I’ll be back for sure. (They’re waiting for their sign to arrive, but it’s at the corner of Fort Street and Old Goddard). Lots of classic rock, jazz, soul, even gospel. Very cool place!

Google
Beautiful record store - I've wanted to visit for a few years and finally had a chance to. Stopped in here for the first time after a dentist appointment and I was knocked off of my feet by the selection and the organization present throughout - vinyls and CDs alike. I was able to fully complete my US Animals LP collection thanks to the variety featured here, along with picking up some other fascinating vinyls, like a Randy Newman live album from the early-70s and some early Yardbirds. Finding a vintage copy of 'Animalization' here filled me with a kind of joy that's exclusive to the Animals and what their music does for me. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise to see the old vacant pierogi shop turned into a vintage record store. This shop made coming back to LP for my dad's passing just a little bit easier. I bought some old tape cassettes for just a couple bucks. My dad would have liked my choices and drove his old truck across the country back to Los Angeles listening to music I purchased here. I took one star away because two of the tapes didn't play well in the trucks cassette player.

Yelp
What a great find and a jewel in Detroit. We happen to be in the neighborhood and stumbled across this record store. The ambiance reminded me of a 1980s record store, so it really felt like we went back in time when records ruled. The selection of records was interesting. I was looking for some Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra - and to my surprise, I found a large diverse collection of both artists and then some. We walked out with several records and only spend about $20. We'll definitely be back at some point!

Yelp
Nice record shop with a surprisingly large collection of vinyl (surprising because the shop is so small)! There are records galore! My brother and I had a great time going through their collection before heading to dinner across the street. Definitely worth going if you enjoy perusing through records.

Yelp
One of the great Detroit/Michigan record stores. Small, well curated store packed with lots of great used soul/jazz/rock/techno and hip hop vinyl. Also a great spot to find vinyl releases by local artists.

William H.

Yelp
I love this shop! Great selection of vinyl and reasonably priced! Have purchased several albums from them, and plan to keep purchasing! Great staff, relaxed environment, clean and simple layout....Perfect in every way!

Yelp
Jacob and I visited Hello Records on a cold weekend afternoon. The place is small but they utilize their space well. There're plenty of records but it's not stacked sloppily from floor-to-ceiling. It didn't feel like a chore looking through their selection. Hello has a great selection of $1 records if you're willing to spend a little time digging. We ended up picking out six records in our half hour visit - not bad! I'd really like to see more mainstream pop and rock from the 80s and 90s. The store definitely caters to the jazz and soul collectors. I will say this place had a bigger selection of some artists than I've ever seen at Dearborn Music. If you're into The Doors, The Beatles, Alice Cooper, The Jackson Five or AC/DC, then this is your place. These artists never have records in stock at Dearborn, and if they are, they're much more expensive. Friendly staff, nice selection and great organization make this shop a must-visit for vinyl collectors.

Yelp
Hello Records is very cool. I truly regret not having more time here. The selection is dense, there are crates upon crates, and drawers and nooks and crannies for you to peruse at length. With genres all over the place and an eye towards the obscure, I was very pleased with this humble little corner record shop. The dudes working here were very knowledgeable and cool, cool in that elder statesman-ly way in that they could probably riff for a while on any one record you brought to the counter, evaluating its merits and weaknesses. I ended up with a Skeeter Davis best of compilation and Royal Trux' double lp Twin Infinitives. I recommend coming here on a weekend and just spending an hour or two.

Yelp
The selection and atmosphere have brought back the neighborhood shop. My favorite spot in Detroit.

Yelp
Wow! We came in here with my family on a visit back home. The staff were very very kind and helpful. My father asked to look at their classical selection which is kept on a lower shelf, he was immediately offered a stool to sit on as he thumbed through the collection. When we asked about solo saxophone pieces, the gentleman was quick to offer his assistance and look on our behalf as we searched other sections. I really wanted a copy of Sammy Davis Jr.'s Hello Detroit, although we couldn't find a copy in the store, it did not deter from being recommended another Sammy Davis Jr. album that he really enjoyed. We were very pleased with the selection and service of Hello Records. I think it should be a mainstay in Corktown and Detroit as a whole.

Yelp
If you live in (or are visiting?) Detroit and care about vinyl, you need to check out Hello Records. You won't be mad. Although small, this shop is mighty; packed to the gills with an awesome selection of great titles at great prices, there isn't anything to complain about. Hello caters in all genres but if you're looking to get down on some old funk or jazz, this absolutely the place. By far, this is HR's strongest point. If that is your jam, you won't leave this place empty handed. Certainly the other genres offered here are great. You can pick up a lot of familiar titles and a few that maybe aren't so familiar. As mentioned earlier, prices are wonderful. For a shop, it doesn't get much better than this. Staff is also friendly- and helpful! Look forward to returning soon.

Yelp
Pretty cool looking store . The worker could've been more polite and more interested in the customer . The selection was not that updated but pretty cool.

Yelp
Detroit is home to the best record stores in the world. This place is one of my favorite 3. Wade is real cool and the selection is serious. Great little spot.

Yelp
Tiny little record shop, with vast curatorial skills. It won't take you too long to scan through their main selections, but you should take the time and do it. I can't count the times I've left the store with something I'm really excited about, be it a new reissue or use record, and then I've gotten a few dollars off the sticker price for it. Someone sold their nearly pristine Eno collection to Hello at one point - I was lucky enough to grab a couple of them (and picked up a different one a few weeks later!) Wade does an excellent job, and all the other employees are super friendly too. They're happy to talk to you about records and what they've got in stock. Good jazz selections, punk, indie, electronic, and a good local selection too.

Yelp
Huzzah, another record store in Detroit proper! If you're looking for rock, soul, gospel, funk, jazz...hell, even minimalist (I found a copy of Reich's "Tehillim") vinyl and are open to having the proprietor bend your ear about old and odd nuggets, this is your little corner of heaven. There are lots of mainstream items to be found, as they are the bread and butter of used record stores; but you will also be certain to stumble upon some rarities, and stuff you've heard mentioned in a whisper on the internet and now the album is actually in your hands. You know it's fate...you must buy it! We are so lucky Wade finally has his own store (he co-owns it, actually)! He's another one of those rare music mavens that I seek out when I need to know something about "insert name of lost band with only one release on an arcane label here." But his knowledge doesn't stop there. Wade's been entwined with local musicians and the SE Michigan scene for years. Aside from used (and a small selection of new) LPs, there are also 45s and 78s. Prices are fair and reasonable. This store is in a great location too--just down the street from some really cool restaurants, on the most beauteous block of Bagley I remember ever seeing. ***CASH ONLY*** (for now?)

Yelp
It took forever for this little Corktown shop to open. So long, in fact, that I figured it was some sort of front for a Mafia organization. Fortunately, the only killers to be found inside here are some amazing records and maybe Jerry Lee Lewis. How amazing? How about $5 for a near-mint copy of the Zombies first record in stereo? Otis Redding's "Dictionary of Soul." Early Roy Orbison platters on Monument for a couple of bucks. Some nice funk and soul. Wade is a great guy and will cut you a good deal. Just bring cash; credit cards aren't accepted yet. For a record shoppe that's just getting its feet of the ground, you owe it to yourself to check out this shop. Or don't, more for yours truly.

Yelp
Great little record store. Quality not quantity is never a bad thing. Prices very reasonable and the guys super friendly. Definitely recommended and glad we stopped by to dig.

Yelp
Hello Records in Detroit, MI should be the template upon which every vinyl only record store stamps themselves from. I visited recently and was not only blown away by their prices and selection but the staff was extremely knowledgeable and, for real, without pretense. They were the friendliest dudes to every single person that walked through their door. That means a lot to me. Listening to records isn't some sort of elite club... every single person that's into records got there because someone else shared their passion with them. It can truly change someone's life. Why horde what brings you joy? Spread it! Bonus points for giving me a free can of beer.

Yelp
Hello is definitely not the biggest record shop in Detroit, but the solid selection in most genres, good prices, and welcoming staff really give them the edge over most everyone else. Wade and the crew are super friendly, and prices are excellent. The dollar bins are chock full of goodness, but doouble check the condition to be safe. I'm usually looking for jazz and R&B, but my shopping pal is also on the hunt for rock, punk and local bands, and he's always satisfied with his finds. I'm looking forward to going back, as I usually stop in once a month or so to see what's new.

Yelp
Such a lovely local records store. I dropped by briefly on my way out of town (suitcase in tow) and Jeremy was kind enough to let me in before the store officially opened and helped me find what I was looking for. I found a well organized collection of records in excellent condition and some rare pieces. The store is small but clearly well curated, and the staff seems to know their music (Jeremy found me a record I was going to look for before I even asked for it.) They even offered to ship me my iPad after I left it there by mistake trying to fit my haul into my suitcase! Lovely people, charming store. Highly recommended.

Yelp
UPDATED REVIEW: A few months have gone by since I first reviewed Hello Records so I am now going to reevaluate the store. In my last three visits I have found a great deal of items for purchase and their quality has definitely improved. I have managed to fill some of the holes in my Impulse! catalogue in the last few visits (kudos). The bins are more full then they have ever been and the turnover in my last few visits has been quite good. The most appealing things about Hello Records (that I did not experience the first time I visited) is the conversations. Hello Records has some of the most friendly owners and clientele. Aside from that first visit, I have had some great conversations and meet some great people walking through those doors. The neighbourhood record store is alive and well on the corner of Trumbull and Bagley...go experience the store for yourself, you will not be disappointed!! I have decided to give Hello one more star and up their rating to 4 stars. The store has the potential to get that 5th star if they can keep up the great work and selections that I have found there as of late. Great job guys!! ---OLD REVIEW--- (3 stars) Hello Records was suggested to me by a fellow Yelper to pay a visit. Always up for a new adventure, I decided to take a drive Downtown. Located about two blocks from Tiger Stadium, Hello Records is a small corner store equally comparable to Dave's Records in Berkeley, CA (see my review for Dave's). The Jazz section was on the smaller side, but boasted a few interesting titles. Be careful while to check your records because quality is not of the highest priority, I was very disappointed that I paid $4 for an almost unlistenable Max Roach record. I think as this store has a lot of potential to be amazing, but it needs some time to grow, we'll see where it is at in a few months.

Yelp
Small, cozy, quaint and lots of nuggets to be had and their prices are the best I've seen. - They are very generous and it seems I never pay full sticker price. Other stores charging upwards of $20 and Hello has it stamped for $7.99. * Lots of soul, jazz, rock and a growing reggae/dub selection - my gravitation. Small selection of tapes, great dollar bins. Lots of electro/rap 12's, even 78's. Nice friendly staff. No pretentious record store bullshit. It's akin to a neighborhood bar. *I already have it, but I saw Funkadelic's 'One Nation Under A Groove' for around $10 there. It still had the 7" that it came with. It has a live version of Brain Maggot on it (best 10 minutes of your life). I paid $20 for my copy and the 7" has lots of pops. A record store of the people!

Yelp
Wade was amazing. Great service great selection great prices. Also a font of knowledge about local venues.

Yelp
Love this store! It's very small, but the selection and prices and great. Albums are very organised and they have a fantastic selection of 45s. The people that work here are pleasant , and they sell old bell rotary phones! Definitely will be coming back soon, didn't have enough time today.

Yelp
This is a cool little shop. It is certainly worth repeat visits. It falls a little lower on my list because of size. What they have is good, but they don't have TONS of records like some other Detroit locations. A good shop to hit up after you've been to People's Records, because they are "relatively" close to each other. Staff are nice and seem to be local music celebs. Will certainly remain part of my rotation.
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
If I could've spent the whole day here, I would have. I stopped in after work one day and may dug for an hour and left with 8 records for $24. When I got home I added it all up and my total was more than that, so I definitely appreciate the deal they gave me, as some stores will ring you up at the exact price plus tax. I felt like they had a good selection of many different genres, not just catering to on specific genre like some shops do. Most of the shop is used records, but they also have a decent selection of new releases and re issues. This is a store I definitely have to come back to and probably become friends with the staff because it clear that they care about the people who come to their shop.
google avatar

Yelp
Great record store! If you are looking for the newest release by a flash in the pan pop star, don't go to hello. But if you're looking for real music and folks that are really helpful, Hello is the place for you. Wade (the owner) is very helpful and there are many local DJs, musicians who frequent this shop. They've got special Friday guest DJs! Many used record stores only have used records but Hello has a section for newer records (especially local stuff). If you're in downtown Detroit looking for records, Hello and People's are must!
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
No question about it, Wade and the staff are wizards. It's record shops like Hello that make Detroit one of the most spoiled vinyl towns in America.

Fatima M.

Yelp
I am writing this review for my father who is technologically inept; however, I have been given the full story and would like to review on his behalf. My father is a record collector, quite possibly one of the most valuable in the City of Detroit's Motown. He has been a customer of this business for over three years and has invested approximately $2500 to this store alone. His last visit was Nov 3, 2016 because he was unjustly banned for being an enthusiastic customer. A box of unpriced records were laid in front of the check-out counter where the cashier was totally aware of my father's browsing. My father went to the owner (Wade) for a price inquiry and was denied, agitated that my father went through the boxes. His exact words "I'm not in the mood for that right now". The owner has a right to deny the request for any reason; however, he did not take responsibility for having a box of records in front of the counter for any customer who is a music enthusiast like my father to be excited about new merchandise soon to be priced. The problem came about because the unpriced box should have been either behind the counter or in a back room until ready to be shelved for customer purchase. I believe that to ban my father from the store was extreme and that Wade failed to acknowledge his irresponsibility as a business owner in the inventory process. It's important to mention that a box of unpriced merchandise has been out before and my father has inquired about the price to Wade and was obliged, so why ban him for it this time? To excuse this disrespect to mood is not acceptable. Wade has lost a valuable customer.

Forest J.

Yelp
Totally fun spot - always find something new & surprising or EXACTLY what I was looking for which is rare. Love the staff & space.

Joe S.

Yelp
Poor selection, mediocre service, won't budge on prices. Would rather have me walk out with 0 records than take a few bucks off. Not going back. Hope it was worth the 5$ you wouldn't take off.
google avatar

Yelp
Besides Peoples Records in D-Town Detroit . I really enjoyed Hello Records because of the customer service, atmosphere and of course their selection of Techno/Electro records. (Great Job Hello Records)!!! P.s. I hope I'll go there today and see if they have any phono amplifiers
google avatar

Tim P.

Yelp
I'd like to thank all my vinyl loving friends from trying to keep this place a secret..But, I found and glad I did. Wife and I went there last week. Great selection and prices.. Staff knows their shit.. Blows away most record stores that are twice as big !
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I don't know much at all about records so I felt a little funny giving it five stars since I really can't speak for their selection, but my experience was great. A friend and I were looking for some specific records for a birthday gift for another friend, and the guy working there (didn't get his name!) hooked us up, not only with as many records as we could sift through, but tried to get a real feel for this person's musical interests to best guide us. He then cashed us out, tossing on a slight discount, and even sent us home with a cardboard case to ship our gift. So friendly and knowledgeable. I picked up a few for myself, because oh yeah, the pricing is amazing! Very, very inexpensive. I'll be back soon!

Alex S.

Yelp
First impression driving by it: tiny room, not going to find anything but I may as well go in. And then I walked in. This shop is incredible for jazz heads & dollar bin diggers, and really for anything else. The staff is helpful, the prices are cheap (SO cheap, why are people going to People??). I went there for the first time yesterday, and between my brother and I, we got 11 vinyls and a new set of speakers. I think we'll start making weekly trips and clear up the dollar bin...and of course find an amazing vinyl that is 20 dollars, but still convince ourselves that it's worth it. Props Hello Records!

Renee S.

Yelp
I just called to get the name of an artist. All I had was the name of the song; like magic I knew the name of the artist and the year the song came out. My husband is a happy camper. Thanks for the help.

Andrew S.

Yelp
After going to a bunch of other SE Michigan record stores this is still one of the best. Good turnover. Great staff. Listening station is a good Technics turntable and headphones. It's enough to hear the condition of a record. They are picky on what they buy. They only get the good stuff, in good condition (usually VG+).

Radix P.

Yelp
Terrific record store. Highly recommended! Lots of gems and a listening station to chess out records in store. Staff is helpful and friendly. If you like music and records you gotta stop by Hello Records.

Robert P.

Yelp
Was looking for where Tiger Stadium used to be when my son spotted the store. He saw some people "digging through the crates" as he calls it. So, I decided to check the place out. Great store! Real good prices for vinyl!! Will make sure to stop by when I visit MI next month. What a jewel!

Coco O.

Yelp
This place is great! Super nice guys and always helpful. It's a breathe of fresh air to find a place where smart record guys actually work. I moved to Detroit a few months ago, and heard lots about the other Detroit record store and they have NOTHING on Hello. Thank you!

Thomas G.

Yelp
Very helpful and friendly staff. Nice selection. Great atmosphere. I definitely recommend the place.
