Garfield Park’s roastery-café has national cred: its roaster Justin Bull won the 2025 U.S. Brewers Cup and competed on the world stage, as covered by Axios and local news. Expect meticulous pour-overs, short hours, and a tight-knit neighborhood vibe.

The coffee was alright. Had a pretty good pour over. Pretty cool cup to drink from. I think the team was lacking as there was only one barista behind the bar. The shop atmosphere was just alright.

Google
I’m annoyed I didn’t know about helm until recently despite living nearby for a while. The space itself is a great mix of a cool/hip industrial vibe while still being bright and cozy. The folks here clearly know coffee considering Justin just won the National Brewers Cup, but the vibe isn’t snobby at all and is generally a very welcoming place. Love the coffee here and hope to be back more!

Google
Lovely little shop. I've been here a few times the past few years. Their drinks are tasty!! Haven't had the food but it looks like they supply from local bakeries. Service is wonderful. Love coming here whenever I'm in Garfield park.

Google
Hey, go to Helm! Highly recommend if you’re looking for one of the best local roasters in town. Parking on left side of building and street side. Chill atmosphere and walking distance from Garfield Park Conservatory.

Google
Update: Absolutely loved the World Brewers cup pour over. A very smooth and balanced Gesha. Worth the try! ---------------- Amazing culture here. Great people and good community. Unique drinks done well and sustainably. Definitely recommend

Google
Definitely in my top 3 coffee places in Indy (if not all time). Amazing roasts. I usually just get a filter ($1 refills for here!), but the pour overs are great too. I sit and work here sometimes. It’s a very chill space with quiet music.

Google
Great atmosphere and style. Friendly staff. My Americano was tasty! Looks like they’ve started roasting their own beans which is always a great sign! Will visit again when I’m back in Indy!

Google
Loveeeee this space. Good vibes everywhere with the plants and yellow on the walls. Their ube latte is the best ube latte I’ve had - they make it with a housemade ube syrup from Indy-founded Filipino biz Salamat Cookies. Delish!!! Took home their Summit blend as well and it was incredible at home. They make an excellent Cortado too.

Yelp
Five stars. If you love coffee in Indy, then you must go here. It's that simple. There are only two coffee shops I know that are this good and this is one of them. Helm is in a league of its own. I got a pour over coffee. They have several roasts available and the baristas are very knowledgeable about each one. They make the pour over in front of you at a coffee bar. They use a great consistent technique for the pour over. I heard the baristas talking about it and they definitely have this down to a science to get the perfect cup every time. This is in contention for the best cup of coffee commercially available in the city. There's only one other place that's even close. You MUST try the pour over here. Everything else is great, too. I also ordered some lemon poppy seed loaf. That was amazing. My girlfriend got an Ube latte that I tried. It was good, too. There's lots of bright, open space inside to sit and enjoy your coffee. Finally, this is near the Raymond street BRT stop, Garfield Park, I-65, and the pleasant run bike trail. There's a small parking lot that wraps around the building, too. It's a great location that's easy to get to in many different ways. They do have an ADA accessible entrance, too. I'm not in need of that, so I don't know how good it is. However many places on that side of town don't always try to comply with the ADA. Five stars. Easily in the top two coffee shops on Indy. You need to go.

Yelp
One word: Wow. My brother has always joked that I've experienced more of the world than my own city, which is probably more true than not. So today, we visited Helm. The notes in everything we tried - amazing. Highly recommend giving this place a try. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Yelp
Wow this was amazing, surprise street side building right on my way to a gig, dipped in right in time before they closed, I found a fun loving barista cleaning up and eventually putting together my ube latte. Loved the discount for my brought in cup, it is good enough on tables and couches but my back would be sore after long crouching to my laptop. I loved the espresso and ube, always my go to when it appears on a menu. Can definitely recommend!

Yelp
Went in on a sleepy Sunday morning, barista was very friendly and greeted us right away. They roast their own beans which I love. Quiet simple atmosphere with several different styles of seating. Street parking. Homemade syrups including Ube which is made from local cookies. Barista took her time to make high quality lattes and even walked them over to my husband and I. Will plan to return!
google avatar

Yelp
Chill spot. Perfect to grab some coffee and bring your laptop. Nice and friendly service. Would definitely come back with friends.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick coffee and didn't want to leave. Warm and friendly ambiance with minimal wait time. Coffee shops like these are what make Indy Indie! Coffee is phenomenal - definitely will return.

Yelp
Chill coffee bar. Reusable glass jars for coffee. Inviting staff with excellent caffeine options. My ube latte with oat milk was bussin'

Yelp
I stopped by on my way to IND airport to try a nice local coffee spot as a traveler. It's located a couple blocks away from a park, which I definitely took advantage of! Overall, it was a nice place I would love to come back to if I'm in the area. The coffee was great, friendly service, and pretty quick even on a day they had a busy pop-up shop inside! What I found really awesome is that they only provide reusable glass jars for your drinks. If you return them the next time you visit (or bring your own container), they give you $1 off! I didn't know they were zero waste when looking for this place, but I'm glad I found it! Definitely the type of place I'd love to frequent if I were a local! So if you're also just visiting, I'd recommend bringing a container (luckily I had one) so you don't have to worry about recycling the glass jar on-the-go.

Yelp
The mission of Helm Coffee is to spread love through coffee and that is exactly what you get when you walk through the door! They take all are welcome to heart and you can feel how staff truly love this coffee and want to make your day a little bright with each cup. The parking lot is a little small, but there is plenty of free street parking! They are closed M/T/W. This a pet friendly establishment and they even had live music when I stopped in! I was so disappointed I couldn't stay and had to get my order to go, the music was fantastic and perfect for a lovely Sunday morning! I opted for the cascara fizz which even a non coffee drinker would enjoy! I also love they promote sustainability by serving drinks in glass jars. They do charge $1 for this, but that is waived when you return a jar. This. Is. A. Must. Stop!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Helm is definitely not a place to pass up. They serve their coffees in glass jars, which can be reused or returned for a zero waste experience. I had a delicious pour over coffee. The barista was very helpful in helping me figure out what coffee to try. You can tell of their dedication to sustainability and also proud in their roasts. I loved the more chill inclusive vibes and can't wait to revisit.
google avatar

Winnie Y.

Yelp
My husband and I were in the area and wanted to try a new to us coffee shop. We couldn't pass up this place after all of the reviews here on Yelp. I knew I had to get it when I saw Ube on the menu! You don't see that in many coffee shops. Mine had the perfect amount of Ube flavor which paired nicely with the coffee. Of course you can't pass up the gorgeous latte art either.

Yelp
I actually visited Helm coffee for the first time after hours for an event with a couple of Indianapolis organizations that I am proud to support. so full disclosure, I cannot speak on the service or the food. I can only speak on the ambience and what I know about the business. I've learned that Helm Coffee is a woman and LGBTQ plus owned coffee roasters and café. Their tagline is "spreading the love of great coffee through kindness and connection." Gawwwd, I love that! It makes total sense that the two organizations I was with that evening decided to meet in this space. Their mission and purpose align so well with what we were doing. The physical space inside is beautiful and inviting. The restrooms are all gender, and easy & free parking to the left side of the building. I don't do a lot of business in fountain Square just because of where I live up on the north east side, but going forward, I'm very excited to visit Helm Coffee during normal business hours and support them.

Yelp
Great to see this addition to the Garfield Park neighborhood. It seems like every time I turn around there are new wonderful additions to the neighborhood. I feel like I'm late to the party on discovering Helm and actually only found out about it from a recent Cafe Babette pop up. I worked from the counter, enjoyed my chai tea and then picked up some coffee beans and pastries for the road. Side note- also jazzed to know that Cafe Babette will be opening up their own spot down the road in 2024. Helm Coffee nails the inclusive, and inviting coffee shop atmosphere. The space is flooded with natural light thanks to the pull up garage doors and light and airy decor. Even the bathroom was pretty and well-designed. We also thought the beans were exceptional and enjoyed them over the course of the next week at home.

Yelp
Delicious hand crafted coffee! The menu is relatively minimal but the quality is excellent. Plenty of seating and cutely decorated. Parking is available on the street and they also have a small parking lot. The roaster is out in the open which I think is cool. Staff are friendly and the service is great! We had a cold brew and hand poured coffee, both tasted great and were served with style.

Yelp
Helm is a newer coffee shop in Garfield Park. I have been negligent in visiting any new coffee shops south of downtown but so glad I visited. It's a great place for a bright and sunny late winter Sunday morning coffee with a friend. They have a Ube syrup from Salamat cookies right now and who can resist. I've had Salamat's version of an iced Ube latte but this was more traditional and oh so good! They participate in the same glass jar program as Amberson and have Leviathan baked goods and have live music?! Say less. They offered to warm up my almond croissant which made a great pastry even better and I'll accept no less going forward. Comfy couches and great atmosphere make this a must stop. They also have a Jeni's ice cream freezer in the store. What a flex!

Yelp
Visited Helm Coffee on a recent trip to Indianapolis and absolutely fell in love with the place. The vibe in the coffee shop is top notch and a large garage door facade brightens up the space well. There are cozy seating arrangements available at Helm and we opted to have our coffee at the shop and enjoy the space. To the left of the space is the counter where ordering can be done; to the right hand side is the coffee roasting station. The staff was warm and inviting and made the trip all that much more enjoyable. I opted for a maple latte which was crafted with precision and was absolutely delicious. My two travel partners each had a cup of coffee which was freshly brewed while we were ordering and refills of the drip coffee while there only run $1. In addition to our coffee purchases enjoyed while there, I also purchased a bag of their freshly roasted coffee to bring home with me, as well. Can't wait to brew it up shortly! If Helm Coffee was in my own local neighborhood, this would be the kind of place I could visit each day. If ever back in Indianapolis, I'll certainly be visiting Helm Coffee again!

Yelp
Very inviting coffee shop! The barista was very sweet and even brought my drink over to me when it was ready. I sat on their couch and read a book for 2 hours while enjoying my iced vanilla latte. Parking was easy too, there's a small parking lot to the side and lots of street parking available. Will definitely return whenever I'm by Garfield Park again!

Yelp
One of my favorite roasters in indy. Competition grade. Specialize in predominantly light roasts though generally have one dark available. As a fan of light roasts such as Ethiopian and Columbian, this naturally is right up my alley. They have pints of Jenny's ice cream out of Chicago. If a "weakness" exists, would be food items otherwise. Leviathan bakery goods are featured though limited selection. Otherwise, the ambiance is laid back and friendly staff that are coffee conissuars themselves. Pour overs are what they do best featuring various single origins. Espresso drinks, drip and cold brew also available.

Barbara M.

Yelp
Framed with plants and pillows, the furniture is comfy and cozy. The menu is perfectly sized to have options for everyone but not too many options. I was impressed with the pastry selection, including an almond croissant, cranberry bread, and more. The live acoustic music was a pleasant surprise on a Sunday morning. This business thinks of the little hospitable things, like ensuring their is signage pointing to the accessible door and making kids and pets feel welcome. When I went, the business was out of disposable cups, so I was automatically charged the $1 deposit for a glass. You may return at a different time with the glass to take off $1. Parking is free around Garfield Park area. After grabbing coffee, you can easily visit Garfield Park Conservatory or Garfield Brewery.

Yelp
Bring your own cup because this coffee place has it made. They don't do traditional to go cups and the coffee menu is limited to making the best cup of coffee. When I say the best cup of coffee, I mean it. First time I came, I just got what was on tap and my socks were blown off. I didn't have a to go cup but I go the glass refill. Now that I'm back again, I brought my own cup and got a pour over. The tasting notes match the brew. Also the atmosphere here feels so welcoming and fantastic. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Love trying out new coffee shops when I can and this one did not disappoint. Lovely atmosphere, great coffee and perfect environment for meeting a friend to network. This coffee shop appeared to be pet-friendly as there were a few dogs that came in with their owners and even one dog would occasionally gently nudge us for a head rub. The coffee menu is small, which I preferred because large drink menus can be overwhelming and make me indecisive. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be a repeat customer in the near future.

Yelp
Super friendly staff that love their job and love working together. It's alsp pet friendly. Lots of comfortable seating. They have a select coffee menu, but it's good. Pour overs, lattes, Chai, americano and cold brew. They charge an extra $1 for each drink because they serve in a glass bottle that you take home. If you return with it, no $1 charge. Promoting reusabilty. Lovely neighborhood coffee spot near Garfield Park.

Yelp
My wife and I love Helm!! Super cute atmosphere, kind employees, and great drinks. Got an iced oat milk ube latte and it was so good.

Yelp
Such a sweet coffee shop! This ambiance is very relaxing. We sat at the coffee bar and the OWNER Jillion was very kind and took great care of us! The coffee and apple fritter was delicious. We saw a lot of locals come in with reusable cups to fill up their brew. We also saw a few doggies stop in which was adorable!! Highly recommend checking this place out and the Helms Instagram page to see their upcoming events they recently did a clothes swap and have upcoming events with other local businesses - so cool! Cheers!

Yelp
I ordered an Ube latte and spice bread. The barista was really kind. The place was a converted garage and comfortable. I sat at the "bar" area. At first, they were unsure if they could take cash but they acquiesced. I really felt nice here.
google avatar

Yelp
I went to this coffee shop and grabbed a maple, brown sugar, cold brew with a splash of oat milk. It was divine. Perfectly balanced. The staff there was very friendly and it had a comfy/industrial field. I love that they have the glass reusable jars to further help save this planet! It is definitely pricey, but it's got good vibes and great coffee. I went in the middle of the day, so I don't think it was super busy and I found street parking fairly easily. This part of Shelby Street isn't too busy so street parking should be easy to find if you end up checking it out!

Yelp
Helm Coffee is a LGBTQ+ women-owned coffee roster that opened just a few months ago next to Garfield Park. Since the first time I visited, it entered my top 3 list of favorite coffee shops in Indy, for three reasons: 1) their coffee is truly top-notch. When you try their drip coffee - if you're a coffee lover like me - you can really appreciate how great their coffee is. Must have is also their Maple Brown Sugar Cold Brew, I think the best I've ever had in town. 2) the vibes are cozy, welcoming and inclusive. With simple but very well curated internal design, the space at Helm Coffee will make you feel welcomed right by when you walk in. Whether you sit at the counter, or at the comfy arm chairs, you'll feel in a cozy living room surrounded by nice people. Perfect for working, relaxing or catching up with a friend. Also kiddo and pet-friendly are a plus! 3) their inclusive nature have attracted other businesses and artist to collaborate and Helm Coffee offers a lot of cool events/activities. From Pilates on Fridays to live chill music on Sunday mornings and a variety of different pop-up events with local artists and businesses. Definitely a gem in the Coffee shops scene in Indy!

Ekaterina C.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but their coffee isn't good.. tip for the baristas lower the espresso grind to a finer grind because the coffee is bitter and doesn't have that fresh coffee smell. the atmosphere is lovely though.

Yelp
If you're looking for frill-free coffee that is delicious and served with a smile this is the place for you. Wife duo Jill & Carol opened this brightly decorated, warm & inviting coffee shop in Garfield Park and it's the perfect addition to the neighborhood. Pet and kiddo friendly, this open concept shop features large tables for working & caffeinating, couches for comfy sipping or a coffee bar to watch the magic happen. They make their chai tea in house each morning and is perfect with a splash of creamy oat milk. They also serve pour over coffee that gives you a coffee tasting experience unmatched by the frills of milks or syrups to distract from the coffee's natural flavor notes. On Friday's they even have a Pilates mat class taught by Era Pilates. Supporting local never felt and tasted so good for this woman-owned & LGBTQ+ owned biz.
google avatar

Hae Lee C.

Yelp
Great coffee, service and welcoming vibe! They use glass container like Amberson's for the environment. All staffs are very kind and helpful. Very open space with lots of natural lights. Pups and kids are welcome.
google avatar

Amber W.

Yelp
This coffee shop has been open for 6 months and is delicious! Their service is top notch and the man behind the counter very graciously walked me through everything they have. If you need a positive pick me up with a cozy, inviting ambiance then this is the place for you!

Yelp
Finally had a chance to visit Helm Coffee this morning and it stood up to the hype I've been seeing on social media! They currently have relatively limited hours and menu but what they have they do very well! I was lucky enough to have a business meeting here and everyone walked away happy with their choices. One person got the blueberry scone with fresh jam and clotted cream, another got a plain blueberry scone, and two got the delicious Leviathan chocolate chip cookies. I love the eco-friendly jars for iced coffee but one member of my group got a hot coffee that was also served in a jar and the glass got pretty hot. I would recommend that if you are planning to get a hot drink, bring a coozie of some kind. I believe the jar would fit perfectly in a can coozie and it will save your hands. One of my favorite things about their location is the large garage door that they had open. It was a lovely morning and so nice to get some fresh air while enjoying delicious coffee! If you haven't been yet, this is your sign to check it out!

Philip J.

Yelp
Excellent hot coffee, the mochi donuts are amazing and not too chewy or gummy hot chocolate is frothy and fluffy.

Sharon J.

Yelp
Delicious coffee, fantastic staff, delicious donuts. The first place I've ever gotten a coffee while waiting for my coffee.

Crystal H.

Yelp
Visited Helm while traveling for my sons bowling tournament. The staff welcomed us as if we were old friends and made us feel right at home, coffee flavors were amazing and the comfy atmosphere encouraged us to slow down and relax while we enjoyed our coffee. We wish we lived closer! If our road trip travels ever take us to Indianapolis again, we will be sure to stop at Helm.

Brendan D.

Yelp
Beautiful little queer-owned and inclusive space. The owners are absolutely wonderful people and were so welcoming. Great focus on sustainability. Phenomenal morning atmosphere with live acoustic music to start your day off right, will definitely return!
