How to Help: Fight Hunger and Support Local Restaurants in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"A food bank focused on senior citizens that provides a free bag of food once a month to qualified seniors over age 60, operates a food delivery program during the pandemic, accepts donations of paper goods and non-perishable items at a North Las Vegas warehouse, and uses volunteers to deliver pantry and Meals on Wheels items." - Susan Stapleton

Our mother just called us in heart distressed with high blood pressure telling us that Joe Rono, Helping Hands new scheduler bullied her on the phone and then Paulette Clay lied about our mother calling her and telling her that she had been injured on their large bus due to Janine's their driver neglect. Paulette asked our mother if she wanted to fill out an accident report. Why would Paulette ask our mother if she wanted to fill out an accident report if our mother wasn't injured. This Paulette can't even lie good. This Joe lied said that they have things documented. He doesn't even know what he's talking about he's lying also. The thing that my mother was talking about documented is through Helping Hands emails. That's how stupid this Joe is. He doesn't even realize that the documentation that our mother was referring to is Helping Hands emails through Marina CC, Liza and Sandra. Marina and CC have been wonderful to our mother. Joe also doesn't realize that when Paulette screamed at our mother my mother was at her apartment office and that was her manager's phone that Paulette was screaming at our mother on. There are many witnesses including our mother's caregiver and documentation against these three women and now they're lying scheduler Joe Rono. Our mother pleaded to Joe today to take her for food because it had been almost 2 weeks because they keep bumping her from her rides and denying her right to get food which is elderly abuse and that is against the law. Joe said no and started lying and bullying our mother as our mother was pleading for him to stop. Joe is a sick person to deny our mother a ride to get food today after they had bumped her from getting food almost a week ago and bullying her and causing her heart distress. We as a family have decided to contact the federal government, attorneys, and adult protective services for a complete investigation against the mishandling of federal funds, tax dollars and charity dollars and elderly abuse and to stop them from harming any other elderly disabled senior citizens. Helping Hands transportation department's incompetence and inability to schedule any more than one person per bus including a huge bus that is a waste of tax dollars only using those buses for one person at a time and a huge misuse of federal funds only used for one person at a time. Protect your parent from Helping Hands transportation. One of their drivers ran into a passenger, an elderly disabled senior citizens and a police report was made then our mother got injured and Helping Hands transportation is trying to cover it up. Beware

George is a very kind man. Helping the ones who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances, and in need. I appreciate the time he spent with me gathering food items as well as hygiene products.

These are good people. They are so caring and helpful. I was weighing 74 lbs when they first helped me and my husband who has cancer, to gain weight. We weren’t eating enough. Meals were difficult for me to make and we can’t eat fast food. Lindsey and the other caseworkers there are so wonderful. They are understanding and empathetic. They care about us elderly and our nutrition. Mom’s Meals helps so many elderly folks. God bless you all.

They no longer give seniors delivery once a month. I have to go to the pantry. They will send you food once every 3 months. They call it an emergency food supply. Which I did take advantage of. The bread was crushed. They put the milk and veggies on top of it. But it was still useable. The milk was past the due date, but it was still good. The 2 zucchini and yellow squash were not. They had small spots of mold growing on them. I tossed them. But a family who relies completely on the food pantry may not be in a position to throw out food and might eat it anyway. Giving anyone food that has gone over is the sign of an organization that thinks ‘any food is good food’. A lot of people are in dire straits, but that doesn’t mean they only deserve food that could make them sick.

Yelp
Our Mother is being starved to death because Paulette Clay continues to bump her from getting food which is elder abuse. Liza Avila has been sent at least two emails telling her to reinstate our mother's Walmart ride the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. Liza lied to Marina and told her that our mother had canceled her Walmart rides which was untrue. Marina had sent her an email telling her to reinstate that but Liza just ignored it so that email is proof. Then CC emailed Liza to reinstate our mother's Walmart ride and Liza ignored the second request. It is very obvious that Liza has done this out of retaliation of our mother. Mitch one of the drivers had fallen to sleep behind my mother's dumpsters in the bus he was picking her up in. Our mother struggled to go to the office to see if he was up front and she called Paulette and Paulette started screaming at her over our mother's apartment phone which was witnessed. Then when our mother called Liza to tell her what had happened Liza rudely interrupted our mother screaming there is no story... I have already heard. That's the stupidest lie I've ever heard. What did she mean there is no story but she's heard it that's a stupid woman and she needs to be fired because she is the one that has caused all of this to happen because of her refusal to follow orders from two emails and retaliating against our mother and keeping her from food which she has been starving to death. This is all documented and witnessed by many people including documented by Helping Hands emails. He doesn't even real

Yelp
Am now once again getting transportation help from Helping Hands. This is a great service. When living in the NE part of the Valley I depended on them for many trips to medical offices. One day left an office on North Nellis and a lady was standing there waiting for her ride.. She had an oxygen tank...and was using a crutch. The Helping Hands van pulled up and she said "My prayers have been answered" The driver was there to pick me up....and of course gave her the business card. Hopefully they were able to add her to their very busy schedule. Transportation isn't easy in Las Vegas but is improving and Helping Hands is a great resource. They also have a food bank and other sources of help. I'm adding more comments now to my previous review. Hope that they receive all the funds necessary to continue their great work...and many businesses are donating to that work.

Yelp
This is a nice organization that serves senior citizens across the valley by delivering food to them. As a volunteer, it doesn't get much simpler. All it takes is some time from your Saturday morning, and some gas and mileage on your car. It might help to know your way around a little bit, but they provide printed maps of where you're going. I thought I was going to bust out the GPS, but I didn't need to. I finally did my first delivery this morning. You check in at their office in a building across from Palace Station. They assign you either two or three delivery locations that are in close proximity to each other. You get the bags of food and you're off. I didn't care where my deliveries were, so they gave me a couple of seniors near Mojave and Bonanza. They were virtually across the street from one another. The second Saturday of each month is a larger delivery, so each of my stops got three bags of food. I should really say the fourth Saturday - starting January, they will do deliveries on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. It only took me maybe a total of 70 minutes from arriving at their office to returning to their office. I think most of my time was spent waiting to be assigned (there was a long line of volunteers for them to process and get underway). I came straight back because they need the signed delivery slips as proof for their funding purposes. I saw some people still leaving for their deliveries as I returned. I would definitely do this again. http://www.hhovv.org/

Yelp
I have volunteered with Helping Hands twice now. The first time was delivered kosher meals to local Senior Citizens. We met on a Monday morning at a local Jewish Community Centery off of Tropicana (this was the last time that they were utilizing this as a pantry, they now have their own facility in North Las Vegas). There were only 8 Seniors who required delivery that day, so there were only 3 of us volunteering. We unpacked boxes of koshers meals and redistributed the selections to give each person a variety. It was really easy. Lorri, the volunteer director gave us each 3 deliveries, with directions from the location and the directions from house to house. It couldn't have been easier. All of my deliveres were near each other and it all took less than 2 hours. The 2nd time, I picked up a pastry donation from a local Starbucks to take to the Helping Hands office by Palace Station. I then had to count and sort the pastries and place them in plastic baggies and then put them in the freezer. This all took about an hour. Everyone in the organization is friendly, and I loved meeting the seniors I took the meals too. They were genuinely grateful for the deliveries and it made me feel really good to be helping out.

Yelp
YELP helping hand event, hubby and I delivered pantry items to houses of elderly people in need. The address of their warehouse location has changed. The only downfall is the ladies were unorganized when we got there and some were complaining that "I don't know" this is my first week year. To not start volunteers smoothly and directly at 8am slows the whole process down. Other than that the "customers" where very very sweet and the route was very close to our home. Great way to volunteer!!!!!!
