Hemingway's Cuba

The atmosphere at Hemingway is fantastic, and the location is absolutely amazing. The drinks are top-notch — I had a great time soaking in the vibrant music, lively environment, and wonderful service. I don’t remember the name of my server, but she was truly amazing and made the experience even better. If you go, don’t miss their Espresso Martini made with Cuban cold brew — it was absolutely perfect. That said, I can’t give a full five stars because the food was a major letdown. It’s overpriced, lacking in both quality and presentation. The dishes felt hastily put together, and the flavor just wasn’t there. Still, Hemingway is definitely worth visiting for the atmosphere and drinks. Grab a seat, enjoy the vibe, and stick to the cocktails — you won’t be disappointed.

Arrived about 7:30 on a Tuesday. So many restaurants here in Asheville aren't even open on Tuesdays. Arrived to host stand and 3 hostesses were working, seated us promptly. Not very busy.We didn't care for our given seat and requested a 2 top tall with a better view. The actions and attitude of the hostess was quite evident, we were a bother. We waited while the table we wanted was cleared. There were about 5 uncleared tables lingering and It wasn't busy. The inside bar/restaurant area was empty and the patio was ½ full. Maybe one of the three hostesses not doing much at the moment could have helped clear tables to make seating more readily available. I purposefully engaged with the hostess and thanked her for clearing our table. I got zero verbal, and the flat facial "lack of expression" is the perfect reason extremely young entitled people shouldn't be greeting people. Our server Tosh was spot on, courteous, a little nervous, but had a great attitude. Took our drink and appetizer order and checked on us. We ordered the Calimari which came out hot, tasted fresh, and we were pleased. We also ordered the Mahi & Shrimp Ceviche which was disappointing. The mix had great flavors and the shrimp was fresh, but the Mahi was mush telling me it was made earlier in the day, and I would rate a 3/10. Fresher is better. As an entrees we chose to split a Cuban sandwich. I must say the meat was fresh, the bread was fresh, perfectly pressed and cooked. Probably in the Top 3 of the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had eaten. The views were amazing. Fix the attitudes and the uncleared tables and this can be a home run!

Great spot for a meetup with friends for a drink at sunset. The views are impeccable of the skyline and architecture of Asheville. The espresso martini was the best we’ve ever had and the mojito was delicious. However the food was lacking for the price. The empanadas were our favorite. The calamari and paella just fell short unfortunately. Overall the staff was really great and the ambiance was lovely. There was a fire close by to keep us warm from the wind too!

The food was exceptional! Don't miss the wings - extra crispy, moist inside, great dipping sauce - - and the garlicky delight in the bottom of the bowl was delicious. The calamari was crispy, but not rubbery - cooked perfectly. Make sure to get some of those cherry peppers on each bite. The vaca frita was a melody of flavors striking all the right notes. Fun mocktails were delicious. The only downside was service. Our server was slow. Our order was wrong - twice. We had to keep asking for water. Dirty appetizer plates stood stacked and empty on the table even after the entree was delivered. I'll be back for the food and hopefully better service

It is very unclear from the hotel signs how to get here. It’s on the fourth floor, so this is not quite a rooftop view. We got seated in the tables to the right nearest the best view, hopefully due to the fact we had made reservations. They really need high top tables to make the most of the view. Our view was obstructed by the railing. Our server Chris was totally amazing… so fast, friendly, and responsive. Due to the mixed reviews we split the Cuban and we were happy with it. Next time we will try something else 🙂

First time here and it's a pretty cool little joint. Staff seemed warm and friendly. Had a few drinks and got the Empanadas & Ropa Vieja. Everything was pretty good! I would definitely recommend checking them out. And I will be back.

We had a very enjoyable time at this restaurant. We ordered lemon drop martinis and they were delicious. We also ordered the ceviche, a blackened mahi-mahi sandwich and the pastelitos de guayaba for dessert. The food was very tasty and the dessert was amazing. Our bartender served us dinner and provided great service. The restaurant has beautiful views of the mountains so it’s a great place to enjoy a great meal or just go for drinks and relax.

Everything I had read about this place was so hyped up I feel like I was bound to be disappointed 😞 I have eaten out at 15 AMAZING Asheville restaurants this past month (taking into consideration the food, atmosphere, and customer service) and this was just "meh" at best. The mountain views were of course beautiful but the windows were in need of a spring cleaning, the food was nothing memorable, and the service was ok.

Hemingway's was an amazing rooftop vista in downtown Asheville with great cocktails, cozy spots to chill, and impeccable service! We went for cocktails only- and the view- everything was amazing. We tried making it for live music - next time! Be sure to swing by Hemingway's the next time you're in downtown AVL!

Given the low averages I'm seeing for this place, I'm glad someone recommended it to me, because I would have otherwise skipped this joint. But we came in for dinner last night and it was basically the perfect meal. Great service from a woman named Ally. Kid food that exceeded expectations; my son got the grilled cheese with fries, and my daughter got the butter noodles with rice, and both were in hog heaven. The ham croquettes were good, but the sauce they were sitting on was even better. My wife and I split the vaca frita entree, with broccolini and the plantain chips...that beef was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. We chased the dinner with two orders of the churros and I had to rip the "Daddy Share" of that dessert away from the kids to ensure I got enough. And, we didn't really even get the views because we ate at 8:45 PM on a Thursday. If you come during the day, the views are definitely a selling point. I'm not sure if I just ordered better than most, if we got lucky, or what. But I'll be coming back here for sure!

Incredible food and view! We enjoyed a late Thursday evening dinner of tapas on the balcony here and got to watch the sun set on the mountains. The food was outstanding, and we're from Florida so we seek out good Cuban food wherever we go.

There was a DJ on Saturday night outside at this rooftop restaurant with a beautiful view of the mountains. We liked the beef empanadas. JO liked his shrimp tacos (doesn't come with a side though), but he would have preferred a burger & fries (just his preference). We all really liked the fries & the sweet potato fries were great too. JA didn't like her bistec, but liked her substituted sides of congri (black beans & rice...pretty good to me too) & plantains. I didn't like my yellow rice so asked for fries with my Cuban sandwich (I convert to a ham & cheese panini) and enjoyed it. The server was really sweet (name starts with an X). However, we were told we could pick any table outside but they almost tripped on us about having a reservation for the larger tables out of the sun (which no one had a reservation the entire time we were there)! So, I'm glad they didn't make us leave or move bc they would have missed out on all the money we spent! It was a blast though!

Slow service. Not an exaggeration, took 20 minutes to order a drink from the bar. If they fix that, it would be alright I guess.

This restaurant is on the third floor of a hotel and has both indoor and outdoor (rooftop) seating. We chose the outdoor seating and there was a group there playing Caribbean music (which concluded at ~7:30 pm). As we've been to Puerto Rico a few times, I would say that this similar (nominally Cuban) food was reasonably good, authentic, and served with good sized portions. We started with the "Empanadas de Res" (minced beef turnovers). They were tasty, but lukewarm. I had the "Vaca Frita" (literally fried cow) which was a reasonably tasty shredded skirt steak with pink, pickled, sliced onion on top. I chose Congri (rice and beans) and Maduros (sweet fried plantains) as my sides. My wife had the "Camarones con Coco" (Jumbo shrimp sauteed with mild peppers in an annatto colored coconut sauce served over rice) which was fine, however, the waitress upsold her an unnecessary ($4.00) side of dry "Cuban Bread", "for dipping", however, there wasn't enough sauce in the entree to dip the bread into, and as the bread was dry, with no butter, it went uneaten. Service was okay, cocktails are expensive and they charged us $9.00 for a virgin Pina Colada (i.e. with no alcohol). That was only two dollars less than my (made with rum) Mojito. When I questioned the cost, for what was basically just some fruit juice with a wedge of pineapple, they said it was correct!? We would probably go here again, but be aware of the drink costs and the upsell.

Came in on a weekday morning and there only appeared to be one lady working as a server, hostess, etc. Which caused me to wait to be seated, but she was friendly and efficient once seated. The menu looked amazing and it was tough to decide, so I opted for their Cubano. The views are nice from here, being higher up in a building, so you can see the mountains off in the distance. The food was ok, nothing special, as my Cubano was very dry, both meat and bread. The eggs that were supposed to come with it never showed up. The yuca was good though.

We had reservations for sunset (7:30) and were seated immediately! The view was cool, but the food was meh. I was disappointed to see the dirty couch/lounge seating outside. I personally think there are other rooftop restaurants that you should go to before this one.

Let's start out with the fact that this is easily the worst Cuban food I have ever had in my life. This food had my white girl wife looking at me like they assaulted my culture. I'm Cuban from Miami. I have eaten at over 100 Cuban spots in my life and have had at least 20+ old Cuban lady's cook for me. It's HARD to make the bottom of the list and yet this was a clear winner in the terrible category. I ended up paying over $100 even with the discount for the meal and I feel like I got stuck up! That was the most expensive water I've ever paid for because we definitely didn't eat the food. The Good -French fries were good -Food presentation -View The Bad -Vaca Frita w/Rice & Black Beans: The meat had absolutely no flavor. The rice had no flavor. The beans tasted like they opened up a can of unsalted beans, washed them off and put them in a bowl. The manager says the meat was marinated for 24 hours but I'm not buying that story. Maybe it was marinated in water? -Ropa Vieja: They might as well have punched my abuelita in the face. The food was so bland. I see the onion, I see the pepper, I see the the tomato sauce, I saw some meat.... but I still couldn't find any flavor. -Mariquitas: Overcooked. Golden yellow? Nope. More like tree bark. -Pilar's Double Burger: My son ordered this and no lie... he said it had no flavor as well. I couldn't believe it. There's no way that the burger doesn't at least taste like meat. I was proven wrong. I took a bite and I tasted cheese, but no burger. Insane. That cow died for nothing. -Croquetas de Jamon: Fried perfectly. The jamon flavor never came through. The inside was creamy, just not identifiable. Our server Tommy was nice. The manager was nice as well.

Great place to celebrate my work anniversary! The rooftop was amazing - view, design and live music. My server Tommy was top notch. Attentive, prompt, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to accommodate request to get to flight on time. The food was exceptional! From my house mojito to the tostones boards which consisted of a variety of toppings that were flavorful with each bite. Impressive! The camarones al ajillo were prepared in a delicious buttery sauce with visible garlic pieces! Hemingway is one of my favorite authors (see previous reviews on places that highlight him), and his name was carried on here. The interior design was also pleasing with a variety of highboys, booths and couches. I enjoyed the view and comfort of the patio seating - also couches and highboys. Look forward to returning to this part of Asheville that had cute boutiques and a variety of appealing dining options including Hemingways.

We only came for drinks but the vibes were good and good atmosphere. It was busy but our waitress was very attentive and helpful.

Heard it was known for its view, you do get some mountains I'm the distance but it's mostly roof tops and parking garages. We were offered to sit our selves on the patio or wait to be seated. We wanted the view as it was the coolest day or our visit to Ashville. I would not recommend taking this option as it took 45 minutes to get service and then they forgot my order altogether when the brought my wife's. They did check on me when she was half finished. The only redeeming quaitites was my wife liked their food and the staff were nice. Otherwise they would have gotten a 1 star.

The food, the service and the ambiences were outstanding! Wow, those tostones were amazing! The Croquetas de jamón were delicious.

I recently went to a restaurant with my family, including my mother-in-law and her wife, my husband, and my son. Although it was expensive for bar food, we ordered two El Cubanos with fries, and my husband ordered the Vaca Frita. I had the Hemingway's Sunset drink, which was just okay. Unfortunately, the service was slow, and it took over an hour for our food to arrive because the restaurant was understaffed that night. The atmosphere was quite noisy, with many large groups around us. However, the view of the mountains and sunset was breathtaking. My advice would be to skip the food and just enjoy the view with a drink. Tip: Feel free to go outside, take in the view, and snap a few selfies. No one cares.

Stopped in at the rooftop for a quick bite before a concert. Our server was the only one serving on the rooftop and was extremely busy, but very friendly! Took a bit to get our drinks (we actually got our food before them, but the food was great!

Seemed a bit commercial on top of a hotel, but when we arrived upstairs we found a wonderful rooftop patio, ample seating areas (hi tops, low tables & couches) with an amazing view. Our day was a bit cloudy, but even so, we appreciated the sunset. Excellent service. We had cocktails only, no food. I absolutely recommend, one of the few open air spaces that we found in Downtown Asheville..if they take a reservation, a definite for a large group or special occasion, night out for drinks.

Not a good experience. The food was a mixed bag of decent to bland flavor and one of our entrees was cold. The service was bottom notch (though it is so endemic that it seems like a management issue). Plus the sunset that is supposed to be the main attraction was behind a building.

I had no clue that breakfast was over at 10. I was there at 9:58 and they still sat us!!! I felt horrible but they were insistent we stay. The food was so good especially the Cuban. The restaurant is so nice and peaceful as well.

Getting to Hemingway's Cuba might seem confusing at first but once you realize that it's actually on the 4th Floor of the Cambria Hotel, it should become less daunting. When you enter the hotel, there's a hotel front desk and an elevator to your left. You may end up like I did and get trapped between people checking into the hotel or checking out. I couldn't tell the difference between who was doing what and where they were trying to go. Simply ignore all of that hoopla and take the elevator to the 4th floor, to get to the restaurant's rooftop lounge. There's a fantastic view waiting there for you. There is ample seating, inside and outside of the restaurant. There are a few fire pits sprinkled about the expansive rooftop, to warm you up, if you just happen to visit on a chilly Saturday afternoon like I did. As explained to me by the bartender, the tables and chairs underneath the pergola is the restaurant's reserved seating area and beyond the pergola is for everyone else. Since we had already eaten, by the time we made our way to the restaurant, my friend and I didn't order from the menu. However, I didn't forget to snap a pic or two, so that you're ready to order, when you visit. Although we didn't eat anything, we stayed just long enough to have a drink and take in the view, before heading off to the next spot.

Great view. Hubby had some steak, but was not asked how he would like it, it was over done. Chewy I had beef as well but it was yummy, With this salsa on too. The black beans that came with it though was awful, like awful. No flavor at all. It was like black beans in water. We did not get dessert. But definitely checkout the sunset

Attentive and friendly service, Warm and inviting atmosphere. Overall, the Rooftop is a great place to go for a special occasion or a night out with friends and the plus is the sunset. The food, drinks, and service are all top-notch, and the views are amazing.

I love a good rooftop and I love Cuban food. Even though the Yelp reviews for Hemingway's Cuba aren't great, I was still hoping for the best. I stopped by for dinner and the start was nice but it was all downhill from there. This spacious restaurant has a lovely view of Asheville. There's the patio area and the indoor area. We sat in the indoor area but could still see the views and walked around on the rooftop after dinner. When we're talking service, our waitress was terrible. Bad to the point that it's tough to comprehend how it was even possible. Everything took forever. Ordering our drinks. Ordering our meals. Our drinks were sitting at the bar for long periods of time. She never checked on us during the meal. We had to ask a different waiter for to-go boxes and the check. The restaurant wasn't packed or anything. It was as if she forgot about us or really didn't care about her job at all. I had a couple of cocktails and the ropa vieja---a classic Cuban dish. The food was pretty good but the service was so atrociously bad that it tainted the experience.

Having eaten twice at Hemingway's Cuba, once when we arrived in Asheville in the evening and then again, this Thanksgiving, I am confident that this hotel restaurant rates three stars, right in line with many hotel restaurants, which can be worse, or occasionally better. This is a pseudo Cuban restaurant, where my favorite dish is the veggie burger. The black beans are excellent, but that's always the case at every Cuban restaurant. The mojitos are three stars, certainly not better, but also not worse. Everything else we've ordered is three stars at best, so not great, but on say, Thanksgiving, you'll survive. Though, the hotel, Cambria Downtown Asheville, is perfectly located and swell all around.

We had the most delicious dinner of arroz con pollo (perfectly cooked chicken with the most delicious rice and fried plantains) and camarones con coco. Eman was the most attentive, kind server who gave us great recommendations and checked us on us the perfect amount of times. Thank you Eman for taking good care of us! You're the best!

Outside seating with a view!! Why didn't I go for lunch? This is my only regret. After a day of hiking, it was late, so we looked on Yelp for a place that was open and had food that we liked. We are huge fans of Miami, the Florida Keys, and Cuban food, so we decided to try Hemingway's Cuba and we are so glad that we did. Located on the fourth floor of the Cambria Hotel in Downtown Asheville, the restaurant has a 4,000 square foot beautiful terrace, and you can make reservations online at Open Table. They do offer valet parking, but my husband and I were able to find a place on the street. While we were waiting for our food, I ordered a chocolate martini. It was an amazing drink with shaved chocolate pieces on the top. Also, instead of an entree, I decided to order some sides. I had their congri, which is Cuban black beans and rice, and their maduros, which are fried sweet plantains and an extra side of black beans. All were great, and just the right amount of food. The service was great!! All the wait staff and the hostess were very nice!

I made a reservation for 1030 did not know they close at 11. Despite that our waitress Isabella was so gracious ! She did not make us feel rushed at all. We got the Calle ocho breakfast burritos and they were AWesome !! Great coffee and loved the rooftop!

I've been here twice (trying to give it an honest chance). The food is inedible (to be honest). The chicken I ordered was so dry, I felt like Clark Griswold eating turkey on Christmas Vacation. The empanadas had no flavor and the plantains were just a pile of mush. Our servers were attentive and friendly and the rooftop bar is fun with great views.

Poor lighting, live music too loud inside, arrow con pollo chicken rubbery, server at bar had bit of an attitude and to top it all off the mojito was unpleasant. As one who lived in Miami for 25 years and loves Cuban food, as well as visiting Cuba, I speak from experience. Only plus here was spectacular view on 4th floor roof.

Our first stop this trip to AVL. it was a gorgeous day and they rooftop patio was a great choice. We enjoyed a delicious Cuban sandwich. Added bonus they have live music on Sunday's. Great band!

Went to Hemingways on a Monday shortly after it opened for drinks and an app. The drinks were good and we ordered the yucca fries. They were very good (not greasy at all), and the dipping sauce was tasty. We mainly came to take in the views, it is a great spot!

My friend and I had a made reservation to eat outside on their rooftop. There were plenty of tables available with a gorgeous view of the city at night. We were met with a friendly hostess and seated right away. For an appetizer we shared the mariquitas and shrimp scampi. The plantain chips were served with a mayo based sauce to dip and a good compliment to the shrimp. We appreciated the garlic bread and was obsessed with the very garlicy and flavorful sauce we soaked up using the bread. Our entrees were the paella and steak with yuka fries and broccolini. The paella is usually offered with chicken, pork and steak but had a special on the seafood version because of a chef visiting the restaurant. As a seafood lover, I of course opted for the special and was not disappointed! Although there was more residual liquid leftover than in a traditional paella, the umami flavors did not disappoint! The pan can hold enough for two people with the muscles, calamari, scallops, clams. Even though we were so full, my friend and I just couldn't pass up on wasting any bit of it. The steak was requested as medium and accurate upon serving. Yuka fries were crispy and as expected. The table next to us ordered the cheese flan and highly recommended us to get it too stating it would be a perfect way to end the meal as it wasn't too filling. It was our first time having a cheese flan as we usually had traditional ones. But, we were so happy we got it! It was creamy and not overly sweet with chunks of pineapple, a caramel brittle and plenty of real whip cream. Overall, wonderful experience with an attentive waiter with helpful recommendations. I would definitely come again for the food, service, and casual/romantic ambience.

Great food and absolutely amazing service!! The steak was amazing. The Old fashioned was really good too. (Dewars) Its a bit pricey but the portions are as large as the taste.!

Hemingway's large rooftop bar is very attractive for a large group of people, so when my group of seven needed a place to hang out between destinations we gravitated toward Hemingway's. Now, full transparency I hadn't visited prior when it was just me touring Asheville with my local friends because it's reputation proceeds it. It isn't known for being the best destination in town or even a solid spot. Either we got lucky or maybe even better they're improving based on the reviews and experiences I have heard. When we arrived we were there for drinks only so we were directed to the outside bar where a hostess sat us among couches in the middle of the space. It was really rather nice. The couches were comfortable and there was enough space for everyone. Though we were warned prior to order from the bar because we'd never see a waitress we found that not to be the case that night. Our waitress came over shortly after we sat and had our drinks to us in relatively short order considering how busy it was on a Saturday afternoon. The drinks also were very good! After having the bar set very low we were all quite pleasantly surprised how tasty our libations were. I was partial to my tequila blues as I found it to be well balanced - it was lightly fruity sweet, smooth, and easy to drink. It was a great time!

Our server Tommy was amazing. Very attentive, he remembered we had to leave early- made sure we got cashed out at a good time so we could make our appointment. Even got me a fresh glass of wine after a bug flew in mine! Overall amazing experience

We had dinner reservations and were excited to eat something Cuban in NC! We arrived and were seated immediately. I did not like the corner table we were at, so I asked to be moved to a window once it became available--they accommodated. The place can get packed, but we got lucky. We did ask for outside seating but that was only for cocktails and dessert? Oh well. We ordered some cocktails and the tostones board. Our waitress was kind and spoke highly of staff. For the first time, my partner and I did not like each other's drink. Which was fine with me because I loved my Garden of Eden. His Blue Ridge Mountain Martini was not for me, but he loved it. That tostones board is AMAZING! it is huge and can easily feed 3 or 4 with extra tostones. The meats were delicious and the tomato salad was the perfect addition to balance the savory meats. We also ordered the Masas de Cerdo Fritas and the Vaca Frita. The only reason I'm giving this place a 4 is because their Congri was bland and the only way I could eat it was by putting some picadillo on it from my appetizer. My boyfriend didn't even eat his at all. Also, the cerdo fritas could have been a little more juicy. It was sort of dry. Overall, I would come back to try some more dishes and skip the congri.

If you're looking for a chill (HUGE) rooftop bar/restaurant in Asheville with a phenomenal view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this is the place! Beer and cocktail selection was pretty extensive, and there was a really awesome food menu too (we didn't get any food though). They hostess let us seat ourselves and they even had some couches you could sit at if you weren't feeling a table. Both indoor and outdoor seating was available. Everyone who waited on us was super friendly and attentive - would absolutely go back in a heartbeat! Such a welcoming atmosphere.

Cute little spot with a great view, elaborate menu, and friendly staff. Had a small plate on the recommendation of my waitress and watched the sunset. Will definitely be back for a meal and cocktail when I am in town.

This restaurant is located on the roof of the Cambria . The food is great, but pricey. The truth is you are paying for the view which is truly spectacular. The service is always great. This isn't an every weekend brunch spot, but it's great to bring out of town visitors to.

Typical hotel breakfast. The ham croquets are clearly frozen and heated up to order - they were soggy in the middle. Eggs and sausage were meh. The food took a while to be served, but the server was super friendly and attentive. Upside is the restaurant is located right in the Cambria Hotel and offers 7am breaky for us early birds. I'd go again out of necessity and the hotel was lovely, but with level expectations for quality of food. It's a basic hotel breakfast.

We were highly disappointed in the lack of service that we received. Hemmingways used to be one of our favorite restaurants, but not anymore. I took my family here to try it for their first time. We waited almost an hour for our food, without an explanation as to why until we asked for a manager. Both managers were useless. They did not offer any assistance after being made aware of our complaints. We canceled our food order after waiting an hour, as it was getting late (9:30 pm) We had only ordered a drink each and requested for our drink to be compensated. It was denied. As I stated to the manager- I have received better customer service at a fast food establishment. The only reason why I gave them a 1 star is because the drink was good, other than that- I do not recommend this restaurant due to lack of customer service skills.

Okay, if you read the negative reviews, don't listen. The view is amazing (if you're outside) and the food is spectacular. I would recommend going during the day time when you can actually enjoy the views. The service was great and the food came out very quickly. Everyone enjoyed their meals! We got the ceviche and chicken empinadas to start, the double burger, the vegan burger, the steak and the short rib.

We had a larger group of 8 for brunch. Truthfully we planned to go somewhere else to eat but the wait was too long and hemingways has availability. It's inside a hotel, so you have to take an elevator up to find It. I was pleasantly surprised! The food was good and the service was great! Our server was so sweet and attentive. Our table ordered an assortment of things like: the pastry with fresh berries, the Cubano sandwich, buttery pancakes and even empanadas. We all really enjoyed our food before we jumped in the car to head back to charlotte!

Was prepared to hate this hotel eatery which actually isnt remotely Cuban nor does it have anything to do with Hemingway that I can see. But the breakfast food turned out to be surprisingly tasty. My omelette was filled with flavor and the homefries were salty but good. The view onto the street from the roof is great. Theres zero atmosphere and ambience but somehow it still works. Fine service. Clean restrooms.

Four of us had drinks and snacks on the roof top terrace in October. We went there two times. We loved the atmosphere with the lounge chairs, tables and umbrellas, the views of the mountains in the distance, the sunsets, the perfect weather, and our waitress Helen. Drinks are on the pricey side, but hey, we were on vacation. The food was good, but not great. It was also on the pricey side. Helen was fantastic! She took such great care for us. On our second visit, half of the terrace was roped off (for a private party), so seating was limited. We started to order drinks inside at the bar when Helen came over and told us a few people were just leaving. We were able to sit outside, which is where we wanted to spend our evening. She was a gem! This is a fantastic place to wrap up a day of sightseeing in Asheville.

Honestly, it's fine. There are certainly much better places to eat in town but if you're looking for a last minute meal without a wait and it's a nice evening you can often grab a table among the open seating area of their rooftop patio. Located on the 4th Floor of the Cambria Hotel, just head into the hotel lobby and grab the elevators to your left. Once outside any of the perimeter tables not under the large red awning are all open bar seating with a limited menu (everything except the dinner entrees). You'll get a nice view of Mt. Pisgah, as well as a steady stream of people coming up there for photo ops. Upon our recent visit the chicken wings were good but the Frita Cubana was dry and overcooked.

Hemingway's gets five stars for the nice rooftop restaurant (be sure to request). Expect a beautiful sunset if the weather is working in your favor. We are from south Florida where there is a good Cuban restaurant on almost every block. The food here was good but far from great and the portions were small for the price. It's also traditional to offer rice AND black beans; however, only one side is included with an entree (e.g. rice) so you're paying extra (about $5?) for the second side. Like restaurants around the US, they appear to be short-staffed. Our waiter forgot our second orders of drinks, and the kitchen never delivered one salad. We also requested extra bread to soak up the juices from our shrimp appetizer but it never arrived and the near-empty pan sat on the table during the entire meal. Next time we'll go for drinks and appetizers and enjoy a nice dinner elsewhere.

This is a great venue for watching the beautiful Asheville sunsets. The outdoor seating is really nice--with tables under a covered area, tables with umbrellas, sofas and seating around firepits and high top tables with great views. There is also a really expansive indoor seating area. Our food was really good. We had a skirt steak with broccolini and fried plantains (delicious!!) and rice with chicken. There was a great variety of drinks--including specialty cocktails. The waiter was extremely helpful in explaining the menu and giving suggestions. All of that staff were very friendly, too.
