Overall, our experience was good/fine for a Saturday night out without the kids, but not enough to make us eager to go back. The service was perfect despite a busy house (Durrell was our waiter): attentive, friendly, and overall excellent. The drinks were pretty tasty/the food was good, but it just left us hanging.
The ambiance would be best described as "basic B." I.e. gold finishes, there is a neon light-up sign with an inspirational message, old-time glamour movies are playing silently on the while while Britney plays on the speakers. The dress code appeared to be everything from straight up athleisure to jean shorts paired with top (group of girls having a wine night near us) to a dressier couple out on a date. Ambiance: 2.5 stars.
We shared: California Guac -- it was nice having fresh, tasty crabmeat in the guac, plated with moooore than enough chips, but it felt like it was missing a punch, maybe would have been better with a little heat or something?
I had: Lobster Roll. The lobster was fresh/it was a better lobster roll than I expected Memphis to give me, but it was served with what I can only describe as McDonald's style fries with a bunch of pepper on them with Heinz-tasting ketchup for dipping. Even elevating this with a simple aioli instead of ketchup would have helped, but it would have probably been better paired with like a side salad with citrus and avocado. I ended up picking at my fries by dipping them in my husband's pasta sauce (see below).
He had: Pasta Carbonara. It was surprisingly citrus for a carbonara (made a little sense maybe because of the shrimp?) and came swimming in a lot of sauce. He gave it 3.5 stars for "too much sauce not enough shrimp" though the pasta "seemed freshly made."
Food overall: 3 stars.
We drank: the Ooh-Bae, the Feeling Good, the BBQ something and the white wine flight. The Feeling Good was bright and fun, reminded me a little of a pisco sour. My husband said it was missing something for him. Maybe would have delighted the palate more with some egg whites a la pisco sour? I thought my husband's Ooh Bae was tasty and drinkable despite being stronger than mine; he thought it was yummy. One of the wines in the wine flight we couldn't come up with tasting notes for other than dry minerality. I gave that one to him to drink alone. The other two wines in the flight were fine. He also had the BBQ something - it was a bit too strong for me; he thought it was "good." Overall, the cocktails were significantly better than the food. Cocktails: 4 stars
If we went back, it would probably be just for some drinks at the bar or maybe to try brunch.
