So the first time we tried to visit Henden the host had three of us stand in an area the size of a small closet and asked us what we were in the mood for. I asked if they had a menu, the response was, "we don't have a menu and you don't need one." Turns out, they do have a menu and you do need one, but I didn't stick around long enough to try anything the first time. Seeings as this wasn't an experience I felt was reflective of this business' full capacities I went back.
So the second visit didn't work out much better. We came in at 8:15 and half of this teeny-tiny speak easy was reserved (who oks a reservation of 20 people in a bar the size of a large bedroom?????) but no one was actually there. The hostess told us we could have a seat at the end of the reserved area since no one was arriving till 8:30. At 8:25 she shuffled us to the notorious seat less side area of the bar where we had been quarantined to on the first visit (bear in mind, with no booze in hand yet). A couple minutes later the reservation still hasn't arrived and this busy-looking man in a button-up runs up to us and asks us if we were moved there. We answer yes and he tells us, "That's ridiculous, 20 people can accommodate another two at the end of the reserved section". Hilarious.
The giant reservation finally arrives and I pan the room (reservation and other): it's like the suburbs exported the new Griffintown condo-owning millennials to this bar, dipped em' in egg, rolled em' in corn flakes, and deep-fried them in a pool of bad dancing and unfortunate winners outfits. That's how tacky it was. I'm being mean here, but seriously, the crowd couldn't have done it for me less.
I ordered the Montreal cocktail and realized it's just a negroni that they've renamed (????). Commmmmmmmon.
The second star here is attributable to the staff realizing maybe we weren't having the best time being shuffled around and on our way out the bartender offered us Aperol shots (I didn't know Aperol was something you did in shot form, but hey, felt fancy!). This spot most definitely was not for me, but I could see a different demographic getting a kick out of it.
