"Teochew City is a new collaboration between local television celebrity Chen Shucheng and zi char chain Ocean Seafood, located in MacPherson Road. It serves hard-to-find heritage dishes like chilled pig jelly, five-spice fried liver rolls, and Teochew braised duck. Chen is a Teochew man and a proponent of Swatow cuisine and culture, ensuring an authentic experience." - Rachel Tan

This place has a unique dining experience, they pride themselves on serving you freshly steamed fish. You get to choose from a wide range of fishes and they will steam it upon order - there are a few ways you can decide on your cooking method and marinate/sauce. We were lucky to reach early so the queue was avoided, they are currently having $9.90 per fish promo which is a steal! They are also having $0.60 hot coffee and tea opening promo. It was a unique experience and the food tasted really good as items were very fresh, even the vegetables were very tasty with pork lard and garlic. Braised intestines, sweet and sour pork, vegetables, fish and squid were all good! Will be back!

This concept is like when we dine-in in China and food are OK and variety a lot especially you can choose how you want to cook your vegetables and fish etc. The fish we have is not fresh and the Yam Paste Gingko Nut Dessert (Or Nee) was not steamed well, lumpy inside. The Manager was nice enough to waive off that for us. I would like to go back again and see hows the other dishes like.

09/01/22 Food is ok. Ordered prawn baked with sea salt which is rather unique. However, once it is served need to remove the prawns from the claypot quickly to avoid over cooking the prawns. The braised pork is tough and it would be nice if the meat is softer.

Fish is fresh, cooked in a palatable style..is a steal at $9.90 for this size.. Overall, dishes are generally above average...total damage for this meal $40..

Very salty overall, lady who served our porridge had her nail submerged in one of the bowl so we apportioned some bit of the porridge out and tried to separate it to feel better about it, only nearing finishing our entire meal we also realised a dead fly on our fish, we really want to be okay with this but it’s really difficult to leave a good review . Even if we subject the dead fly and nail in porridge, the dishes we ordered (5 in total), were generally very much on the saltier side of things. Will stick to the branch at Upper Serangoon if anything .. and we will not be returning here again, not ever.

Very good establishment, price is reasonable for its quality. And unlike other shops that try to earn more from customers by charging for cheap plastic boxes, the owner has been so generous to provide all boxes for free. I wish him success for his business.

A niche version of their regular Heng Long Teochew Porridge outlets, and offers 打冷 as opposed to their other outlets. As a regular of their other outlets, I find this outlet disappointing comparatively because: ♦ Service at Tanjong Katong was top-notch but this outlet is understaffed and I actually got frustrated on my first visit and left for alternatives, and the 2nd visit also took me really long before our orders were taken and we were seated. One staff was literally in charge of managing the queue, taking the orders and preparing the food orders for serving. ♦ Price point is very high, even compared to their other outlets. There is already feedback that their regular outlets are on the higher end of price (sth i willing to pay for good quality teochew food, as it is still cheaper than restaurants and I don't need the aircon). It was approximately $20+ per pax for 2 of us, and that is only because they were running a $9.90 fish promo. My advice is: If you wish to have Teochew Porridge but not keen on the 打冷 offerings, you are better off visiting their regular outlets instead of paying a premium and getting below average service standards.

Excellent spread of teochew dishes. The pickles was excellent making me craved for upcoming dishes but that's where the slide began. Glutinous rice intestine was average as the flavor was not evident. I was expecting the deep-fried salted egg roll to be a savory dish but turned out to be a dessert. I cannot reconcile the orange peel, salted egg and thick batter, especially they served it at the beginning instead towards the end. We ordered a pomfret from the display on ice, fish that arrived was much smaller than the displayed, so much for a $9.90 promotion... Lol. Instead of teochew steam, we were served "steamed in plum" which was so acidic that could dissolve a bone. The PRC waitress informed us "It's like that". Told another (local) server who offered to change. This place has much to offer but for now, I do not feel confident in its food.
