Solid pub with friendly staff and Magners on draft. The sampler was typical “fried” affair, however the cocktails were fantastic.

Great atmosphere. The music was a little loud but could still have conversations. The food was excellent the service was top-notch, even for lunch! I highly recommend to visit if you're in town!

We attended the DIVA Royale show here on a Sat. Night. We did buy tickets in advance and showed up early to get a table.up front. The bar was very nice and clean. You do get table service here. They will take a card to hold a tab open during the performance. Now, onto the show. This drag show. This draaaaaag shooow. It was incredible. The music. The details THE DANCING. full splits. The attention to detail. Not to mention the resplendebeauty of each of the performers. 10/10 would attend again.

I'm a simple man, I see an Irish bar, I get a drink. Bar was surprisingly empty when I went in mid day but that means I had no wait for a Black Velvet (Magners cider at this location)

We popped in for Irish coffees and potato skins. It was very quiet for a weekday afternoon but nice nonetheless. I found it quite pricey but I guess it wasn't anymore expensive than any of the other local bRs

A bar with excellent food, great prices, and marvelous service. Who knew? The $2 tacos are much bigger and better than they should be. $1.50 fresh oysters, awesome! And live entertainment thrown in as a bonus. Give this place a go.

Out of some of the beers but still decent plaxe and selection. If you're there for history, lots of other cooler places.

Stumbled upon this pub while visiting Boston for a Bruins game. Stopped for lunch with my teenage son. The food was great. Service exceptional. I would recommend the chowder and lobster roll. Even the side of coleslaw tasted great. They had a wide selection of beers on tap. Will definitely visit this pub again.

I forget our servers name but he was friendly and prompt with checking on us. Food was delish, music was good. Wish we could have had live music Bathrooms were clean and food was perfectly cooked

Mixed experience at Hennessy's. We waited 10 minutes without being acknowledged, even though two female bartenders saw us walk in and didn't mention it to the other staff. They didn't engage at all, which was frustrating. Once we reached out to a male waiter, he was great--super nice and apologetic for the wait. He provided excellent service, but it was disappointing that it took so long to get noticed. On the plus side, the oysters were cheap and delicious, making them the highlight of the visit. Overall, service depends on who you get, but the food was solid.

Service was quick, but I also ate at 3 in the afternoon. Fish was ok. Breading was great but the fish itself a bit mushy. The fries weren't my favorite I wish they were cooked a little bit longer. I'm not sure if it's house made or jarred tartar sauce but it's one of the better sauces I've had! Although the food wasn't my favorite the $3 high life's made up for it.

I have dined here before. My most recent visit involved Happy Hour specials of tacos and oysters. We ordered Clam Chowder bowls off the menu during HH and the entire spread was fire. Would recommend visiting if you're in DTB.

My experience at Hennessy's was disappointing from start to finish. Upon arrival, we waited an eternity for menus, only to be greeted by rude waitstaff who seemed indifferent to our presence. Ordering was another ordeal, as it took an unreasonable amount of time for anyone to even take our order. To make matters worse, after patiently waiting for 30 minutes for our oysters, they never arrived. Frustrated, we decided to leave without any acknowledgment from the staff. Overall, I would not recommend Hennessy's based on this experience. The service was abysmal, and the lack of professionalism from the waitstaff was unacceptable.

Wasn't great.. the service was shotty and the whole place smelled kinda like bathroom.

Good vibes, great staff and perfect selection of beer & spirits. Loved the playlist! Oysters hit the spot. Try the Hoop Tea, taste like an Arnold Palmer which makes it's dangerous.

Some good, some bad. Waiter was very good, chill and helpful. Chili with cornbread was delicious. Caeser salad just ok, blackened chicken very good though. Fish and chips (the reason we went) was a little watery, although the breading was tasty. Fries were uniqu- chunky style- and well cooked. The most concerning thing was the smell of stale beer- I get it, it's a bar- but could have done without that.

This review is specifically for their late night music vibe. I have never eaten here or have been here early than 9, but the few times I have come here after to watch the live music it has been a blast. The vibe is fun and they always play fun, upbeat music to dance to. Also everytime I have been there hasn't been a cover where a lot of other places charge one. Overall I had a great time!

Sunday afternoon, first customers as they'd just opened. Food was excellent. The pretzel with cheese dip was huge. The bowl of clam chowder, very reasonable $8, nice flavor , just thick enough and not you many potatoes The steak tips dinner was fantastic. The beef was cooked exactly as I requested, medium rare, tender and full flavor. The tomato soup and grill cheese $14 was large portions and great taste. The fish and chips were different than the crispy battered ones, but enjoyable.

Walking along Union St, the words $1.50 oysters caught my eye. The mixed reviews had me hesitant, but at that price, how bad could it be? I should've kept walking. All around, I could tell that diners were frustrated. Incorrect orders, missing orders, and long waits for orders or the check affected us all. Some diners went searching for any employee present. While I understand being understaffed, there were many issues with efficiency. Staff would inform diners they would address the issue only to disappear for more than 20 minutes to focus on something else. We were patient when things were busy, but we all grew frustrated when the restaurant was quiet and staff decided to focus on other tasks instead of addressing customers who had been waiting forever. The food itself was fine. The cost is reasonable, especially considering the area. We enjoyed the oysters. This place is fine if you have a lot of patience and have no plans to be anywhere else.

This was absolutely horrible. I dont know if the food or service was worse. Probably the service. Waited 20 minutes for the waittress to take our drink orders. Waited another 30 minutes before the drinks came and we ordered food. At one point our waittress disappeared for 20 minutes. Finally our food came out and it was horrible. My burger was a hockey puck and the ketchup bottle was empty. I ordered an espresso martini and it tasted like chocolate milk with cooking vodka in it. Then the bill comes 180 dollars for four people to get burgers and a drink. A plate of fries here is $11. The service: HORRIBLE The food: DISGUSTING the prices: ABSURD

Borderline ILLEGAL actions from the staff. They're lucky I don't press charges. I was hired by a concert promoter to provide speakers and lighting for an event at Hennessy's Bar upstairs. When it was discovered the promoter couldn't pay the rental fee, the show was shut down and my speakers were held hostage under threat of violence unless the bill was paid. When I attempted to remove my personal $1000 speaker from the building, I was physically pushed away from the exit, screamed at in my face, and had security physically rip my speaker from my hands. I explained to them I had nothing to do with the promoter's lack of payment, and I was hired to do a job. Also, the value of the equipment they held hostage was worth far more than the fee that was owed, so this doesn't make any sense. Fell on deaf ears of a security team that seemed dumber than dumb (part of the job), and they told me called the cops and if I was so upset I could talk to them. I expressed gratitude that the cops were coming and the security had the gall to make fun of me, sarcastically saying "hah! this dude really thinks the police are gonna help him!" I can't even make this up. The cops arrived and were fully on my side. After 10 minutes I was allowed to leave after 90 minutes of illegal detainment. I was insulted, threatened, and (lightly) psychically assaulted. This is unacceptable. This is called "extortion." Some may even call it "wrongful imprisonment." I call it "whack." Shame on Hennessy's. I could go on .... how about how rude the staff was before I even got in the building? The first things out of their mouths were complaints. Their stage is nothing special and if you're in a band, get ready to bring your own monitors. They don't have any. And they don't have a sound engineer so good luck having a decent show. Only one person knows how to turn their sound system on. This club is for only the worst acts in Boston, because they're the only one's who would put up with this garbage.

When someone comes to Boston they imagine the Dublin of American. This bar fits the bill. Amazing pub vibes with live music and even better drinks. If you want to drink a Guinness like a Dubliner , ask Justin behind the bar for the best pour in Boston.

We stumbled upon this place after leaving a bar nearby in search for some late night food. It was a pretty empty inside but then again it was a Tuesday night. The bartender Justin was friendly and promptly served us our drinks. He recommended the burger and shepherds pie tots that were to die for.

Ate here yesterday and got food poisoning from the chicken sandwich. Do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else. The restaurant does have a bad smell to it and apparently that's not just part of the pub experience.

Ok meal. Surprisingly the oysters were the best thing we ate there. Nice relaxed environment and we were able to sit outside at night.

Your very average dive bar with LOTS of seating. On some days I think they have bands playing live music there- seems cute-ish and def has a more rustic atmosphere to it. Memorabilia and things hung around the walls. Definitely a casual spot- service was just a little touch and go. Food/ things are fried, crispy, cheesy etc.. you get the point!:)

Waited an hour for awful food. Pretty sure the entire staff was high on something. Reuben sandwich was the worst sandwich I've ever had

The staff is nice! But if you want to have a fun night out, maybe try elsewhere. My girlfriend described it as: "Your sleepy hometown bar in another place." This is a place for you to come after work to have some beers, maybe not a stop on a barhop. This is how I imagine Paddy's in It's Always Sunny, but the staff was definitely better.

Stopped in with the wife and in-laws as we were taking a Sunday stroll around the north end. Quaint, old-time-looking pub in a great location with outside tables (where we sat), just north of Fanuel Hall. Our waitress was really nice and attentive with an authentic Irish brogue; perfect for the time & place. Before the in-laws arrived my wife and I ordered a couple of beers; draw what conclusions you will that we couldn't wait until our full party arrived to start suds'ing it up, but it is what it is. I ordered a Hennesy Lager, my wife, who suffers from "oh my God, I have to make a decision?" disease, a Gray Lady. 2 minutes later our very nice waitress comes back and tells my wife that they are out of Gray Lady, apologizes, hands my wife the beer list, and asks her to pick again. I watch the tiny beads of sweat growing on my wife's forehead as her eyes frantically dart up and down the list. After a grueling minute (or 10) with the pressure on, she blurts out another choice; I forget which beer it was because I was too busy paying attention to which bead of sweat was going to cut loose and begin careening toward her darting eyes. "Ohhh, we're out of that one too" replies the waitress while glancing an apologizing half-embarrassed smile. Now, if you knew my wife, you'd know what a code-red situation this had quickly devolved into. Much like if you or I were on a leisurely walk through the woods and all of a sudden came face to face with an angry charging bear. It's fight-or-flight in that split second. Well, that's where she was. If I was a bigger man I would have intervened and done something to distract the bear, or at least slow it down. But I didn't. I mean, I DO know my wife, and know that this is the stuff of nightmares for her. Still, I sat there like a dummy and just took it all in. To her credit, like a trooper, rather than flinging the menu and taking off running down the street (flight) she chose to fight. With little more than the aforementioned sweaty brow and perhaps a slightly bloodied lower lip, torn up a bit by her impulsive chomping as she struggled to make repeated and rapid decisions; she came through it otherwise unblemished, and managed to pick for a third time. This pick was a winner. The waitress promptly brought out my wife's icy cold beer, at which time she told me that the keg was being changed and my beer would be a few minutes more. Ah well, at least I didn't have to pick again. For food, I had a Field Green Salad with grilled chicken. It was really just "ok" with 1 smallish, thin piece of chicken and a relatively sparse plate of greens. My wife and sister-in-law had Flatbreads (Pesto Chicken and Vegetable respectively) which they said were "ok", and my Brother-in-law, a Lobster Roll, which he said was really good. So, I wouldn't say I'd avoid the place really. Other than the Tower of Terror episode with my wife though, there's nothing really memorable about it for me, or a reason to make me want to go back. Service; FINE, Food; EH OK, Beer Selection; SO-SO; Ambience; FAIR, TBH, we only experienced outside, the tables and seating were nothing special.

Divey and loud!!! I love a good dive bar and I love $1.50 oysters. I stopped in during the after work happy hour time and it was...lively. I found a small table and was almost immediately greeted by my server. I ordered oysters and a beer and they both arrived quickly even though the place was crazy busy. The oysters were fresh and delicious and the beer was cold. I'd recommend going at a time outside of happy hour so you don't need ear plugs.

My father and I walked in there for lunch on a Saturday and they were dead, only 3 or 4 tables. We sat at our table for about 30 minutes before getting up to leave. We told employees a couple times we needed a server. They would just walk by without looking at you. The food is probably good, but they had awful staff that day.

We wanted to find a place where we could get out of the cold for a bit and have a drink or two before dinner. We stumbled upon Hennessy's and loved it so much we ended up spending a couple hours there. We ordered drinks and I got the spiked peppermint hot chocolate. My husband ordered one of the beers on tap. They came back with five tester glasses because they were out of the beer he did order. It was basically a free flight of beer for him. I ordered a Long Island iced tea next and it came in a huge glass! It was more expensive, but trust me you will only need one all night! They also sell oysters for $1.50 and you can order them just one at a time. This was perfect because we had never tried oysters and were hesitant to order the big sizes at any other restaurant because we didn't want them to go to waste or spend a ton of money on something we didn't like. This was man Irish Pub and had the feeling of being in a true Pub in England. You could tell this was a place the locals like to hang out. If you are ever in downtown Boston looking for a cool place to hang out with awesome staff and great food and drinks, make a stop in Hennessy's.

We were here to kill time before a performance in their upstairs room. Besides cocktails, we had a huge pretzel which came with cheese sauce. I requested and received mustard instead. I'd recommend the pretzel, but I did wish it had more salt on it.

What a hidden gem place We were walking on the street and saw the $1.50 Oyster deal. Didn't expect much but the it was super fresh and tasty (We ordered another dozen). We sat at the bar, the bartender was very friendly and worked efficiently. Their wings were too tiny to eat. But go for cold beer and oysters, you won't regret it

Came here with a group of friends for lunch where we sat at a table for 15 minutes without anyone bothering to service us. So we simply got up and left.

I always enjoy myself here. Shepherd's pie was pretty good last time I had it. The staff is friendly and courteous. I've been popping in and out for the past 8 years and always had a good time.

Rude bartender, acted too cool to take care of us (ignored our attempts to order in basically empty bar) after he didn't have what we ordered originally... Other than that cool bar with fairly equipped bar shelves right in the heart of Boston, small outdoor seating area...

Neat bar, but less than good experience. Ordered one can seltzer... bartender grabbed wrong flavor. Asked what grades of Hennessy they carried (which was the Entire reason we made our way here) and he replied, "We have regular Hennessy." To which I asked if it was V.S. or V.S.O.P.? The bartender Again said, "It's regular Hennessy.? Obviously oblivious to what Hennessy even is. Hello?? The name of the place is Literally "Hennessy"!!!

Slow service, didn't receive the oysters we ordered after 40+ minutes, and nobody wiped down our dirty table after my group asked 3+ times. I've worked in the restaurant industry so usually I'm gonna cut some slack, but this was a disappointing experience. I wouldn't recommend. I'm sure the review would be higher if we tried the food, but since we never got it it's a little hard to tell.

Ate $1.50 oysters with IPA, nothing bad, or good. Enjoyed sitting outside under a parasol. A Irish girl was serving our table sufficiently. The best thing is the ATM located in the middle of the restaurant.. what a convenient pub!

An order of Hennessy's basket of onion rings $8 (Hand battered onion rings) came as a count of 14 beer battered rings in a variety of sizes. I generally prefer thick sweet onion rings in mine, while these were mild and thin. They sufficed, however, and service was pleasant. *** Hennessy's is one of 7 pubs under Somers Pubs. The Green Dragon Tavern is another one. So I decided to do a head to head tasting of their clam chowders to see if their recipes are the same. Short answer - nope. Green Dragon Tavern kindly wrapped up the bowl of chowder $8 with a sheet of foil and included a set of wrapped plastic utensils. Hennessy's $7 neglected to give me a spoon or napkin, but did provide a bag of oyster crackers. Green Dragon filled their bowl higher in the same size paper cup. Hennessy's was the thicker, creamier sort. Green Dragon had larger chunks of potatoes and more visible clam pieces, but the potato in both were still on the firm side before noon. Hennessy's had the more tradition flavor of the New England clam chowder, and is the winner between the two in my book since Green Dragon's had some other kind of flavor going on that I couldn't exactly place. But ultimately, every diner has their own taste preferences, so give them a go yourself and decide which one you personally prefer.

Tall blond long hair male waiter. Is a very rude person. My wife needed to take her medication coming off a surgery. He asked us to take a seat and will get it. He kept walking in and out for over 10 mins with other customer's order with a very ignorant look. If you are not going to serve with anything i would suggest to be straight forward and say no. And don't keep us waiting its just (water) Never stepping in again nor bringing anyone i know because I don't want to be ignored again. I hope you get i. My shoes one day :)

Game seven of the Celtics eastern conference finals and one bar tender working. Slammed bar. Pulled a girl from another. We who is trying her best but learning new things on a slammed night. No food service with no warning. Cut mixed drinks.

Bar was dead. Somehow 2 x green tea shots, 1 Budweiser, and 1 Narraganset was 40$? Rip off. Bartender was polite, but ripped high. Mids... lower mids.

Worst atmosphere and the employees are rude and have no respect for guests. I recommend going to any bar on either side of establishment. They have respect for guest and great environment . Don't waste your time or money at this establishment trust me! Boston has was more and better to offer ! The owner should evaluate the current staff and there attitudes

Great music, Chris and Emily the bartenders are awesome. Bar menu is amazing. The atmosphere is loud, but we love it.

I dunno man, this bar is your standard bar. It has beer (lot of standards and some locals). It has liquor. It has food. Sometimes (often) it has music too. If you like the bar scene in Boston, chances are you will like Hennessy's. I grabbed a couple pints with a group and everything was....fine. That's it! So yea feel free to wander in but I would not recommend making a special trip just to drop by.

Excited to go in based on the action I saw through the window. My buddy and I were excited as hell to go in and experience what everyone else was in there for. Shortly after going in we were told we needed to leave because they were closed. This was 10:30 at night with a full bar... not quite sure the motive or intent here. Overall shit dive bar. Don't waste your time and go else where. Clearly don't want new people to try this place.

If I could give this place less than a star I would. The Irish bartender lady wouldn't even look at me and then when it was finally my turn told me she couldn't make what I wanted with significant attitude. I thought maybe she just never saw me, but the way she worked the rest of the bar felt very racially motivated to me. Absolutely stay far away from this establishment and will never support this place again - will also ensure my social circle never visits.

I've been here a few times and they never disappoint. A great dive bar for regulars or for pub tours. The space is large so you don't ever feel crowded and offers a wide variety of drinks, especially scotch/whiskey! Food is, okay. Nothing very interesting. We got the pretzel at one point and while the pretzel itself was good, the beer cheese dip included was bland. Live music happens most nights and really makes the atmosphere for the place. Last time I went it was a great band that got the whole place dancing. I highly recommend coming in when one is playing! A cover charge does come on at night. I went on a Saturday and it seemed to begin around 8:45. We came in prior so were set for the night.

The staff is EXTREMELY rude, worst service I have ever experienced. Dirty, not very many people, bartenders are so rude, live music was okay though Save yourself some money.

Not worth it. Came here to have their clams, and they were sold out! The service was terrible, no one sat us down or greeted us. We ended up finding our own table until a waitress noticed us. She began by asking us what we wanted to drink. We got waters and 1 soda. We also ordered their Irish nachos along with a fish and chips appetizer. While the food wasn't that bad, the soda we ordered never came and the waitress didn't bother asking how we were doing or didn't even refill our waters. To make it even worse, when our bill came, the charge for the soda was on there. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because the food was average and we didn't wait too long. But I will not recommend coming here, unless you only care about sitting at the bar, where most people were.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. The quality of this place is not worth waiting in line for. Upon entry, waited at the bar for 15+ minutes just to have the male bartender tell us to "tell the other bartender" our order. Completely unprofessional business operation- not worth your money or time. I would suggest staying away from this bar or any bar on this strip if you'd like to enjoy your evening.

Music was definitely centered towards millennials which is chill, except I'd prefer not to get shoved to the ground every 2 min.
