"Travel back in time with this classical French bistro inside the recently renovated Birks Hotel. Having preserved several historical and architectural elements owed to the heritage of the building, including the spectacular stained glass, this 19th century-inspired space is as welcoming as it is inviting. Open for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, the menus feature seasonal ingredients from Quebec and across Canada, making it an essential stop for those looking to discover the French side of Montréal." - Daniel Bromberg

Decent food?! Portion sizes were generous but flavor was nothing really special for the price. I sat by myself at the bar and the bartender Peter was lovely, his manager?! (The guy in a suit, not so much!) the place was noticeably empty and be nice to customers. Specially a woman alone at the bar, it can be an intimidating experience already. I ordered what was recommended and still couldn’t find much flavor.

Google
Henri is definitely one of the most unique restaurants I’ve visited. I loved the lively ambiance and the stunning architectural design. The food and drinks were excellent and reasonably priced. It’s truly a vibe.

Google
The Henri Brasserie was a great experience. The atmosphere is very warm and I regret not getting a walk through shot. The food was great and the service was good to, other them being really busy and only being able to sit us at the bar ( I suggest making a reservation) overall the experience was good.

Google
The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Chic and timeless steering away from trendy. However the food is just ok. The appetizers (onion soup and escargot) were excellent but the salmon tartare and steak did not match the finery of the decor. I would gladly Return again for a drink but not for a meal.

Google
We made online reservations to celebrate a birthday. First a few tasty oysters. The mountain of mussels and broth were so delicious and so was the duck confit. We had a mille feuille for dessert. They forgot about the birthday so the hostess kindly gave us a few treats in compensation. It is indeed quite noisy but it is a lively atmosphere and we would go again. 😍

Google
An exceptional dining experience that captures the soul of French cuisine. The ambiance is warm and refined, with a lively energy that sets the tone for an unforgettable meal. Service is polished yet friendly — attentive without being overbearing. The standout? The seafood platter: brimming with ultra-fresh oysters, Alaskan king crab legs, shrimps, and a whole lobster — all exquisitely fresh and artfully presented. Every bite was ocean-kissed perfection. A bottle of crisp white — whether from the Loire, Bourgogne, or whatever lifts your spirits — elevates the meal to pure joy. Great food, gracious service, and fair pricing — this place is a reminder that true culinary craftsmanship is still alive and well. Highly recommended.

Google
It was our first New Year's Eve together dining in a fancy restaurant and it was definitely a great experience! I was amazed by the charming atmosphere. The gracefully high ceiling and the gorgeous stained glass windows, the beautiful decor of the room, people all dressed up. It was a busy night, the servers running on the floor with smiling faces all the time. They were attentive and impeccable. In this moment, I felt like living in a kingdom. We had New Year’s Eve menu as others .The food was fresh and delicious. The cozy fireplace corner was the perfect spot to make New Year Wishes. The terrific burgundy night, cheers!

Google
We had a good experience at this restaurant. If you would like a brilliant brasserie experience, this is the place. The staff was great and atmosphere was lovely. The food was pricey, but fair. I was disappointed that the menu has a lot of raw meats. I'd say more than half of the the menu was some raw meat. This made it hard for my pregnant wife. As for the starters, there was only 1 that didn't have raw meat. Very disappointing. If you are going for dinner on a Friday night. Go before 7pm as after 7:30pm it starts to get busy.

Yelp
Wow !" Henri one the Best Meal I had in Montréal!" The service was excellent love their recommendation . One of my favorite was that chocolate bomb Wow !" BestI dessert that I ever had !!!" My compliments to the pastry chef "

Yelp
Three of us went with no reservation at ~5:30 and were seated quickly. They were still pretty empty at that point but filled by the time we left. The space is attached to a hotel and is absolutely beautiful. I especially appreciated the plasterwork on the ceiling. Our waiter was great. Didn't hover or rush us and gave us plenty of time to enjoy each step of our meal. I had the Chai noisette cocktail and roast duck breast. Both were great. The chai noisette was not a great combination of flavors for me but was made to a high standard - there are definitely people who would like it. The duck breast was great - not dry at all and very flavorful. Would absolutely eat here again.

Yelp
Fancy place to go on a date. I had a good time. Service was good. We had free dessert which I loved it.. the food was something different, and very small portion. It didn't fill me up lol but it's okay. It's a one day thing

Yelp
Best meal thus far in Montreal! I almost did not go here because there were some recent bad reviews. However, we decided to go have a glass of wine at the bar and perhaps some appetizers (entrée's) and just see how things went. I am so glad we did. We ordered some appetizers; oysters PEI, a Caesar salad and the beef tartare. I love carpaccio but have never tried a full beef tartare so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I loved it! So delicious. I just cannot put into words but if the thought of this dish makes you cringe, please take the leap! The oysters were amazing. Where we live we are usually limited to Gulf oysters which are fine in their own right but they just don't compare to PEI. The minuet was perfect and we finished twelve very quickly. The Caesar salad was good, but if anything was three stars tonight, it was this. The only reason was that it came with a poached egg, which I love, but this egg was far undercooked. It was translucent and just destroyed an Beef TartareBeef TartareOystersotherwise very good salad. Finally, I ordered a duck confit for a meal and everything about this dish was spot on! The fresh vegetables were sautéed to perfection. The duck came with a delicious crispy skin and a fabulous berry reduction. Every bite was amazing from start to finish. For dessert we went with Pavlova which was a meringue with fresh cream, mango, passion fruit and some edible leaves and chocolate disks. What a refreshing dessert to finish an excellent meal. We sat at the bar and still felt like we were given great service. The bartenders were very willing to make suggestions and explain the dishes. Exceptional food and great service! Perhaps the bad reviews were a bad night, but this was very deserving of five stars.

Yelp
Hubby and I wanted a nice date spot while visiting Montreal. Found this gem! Such a beautiful spot and the food was so good too! It's connected to a hotel but we were able to find it. Would love to go back and try more of their dishes :)

Yelp
Only good thing about this place was the decor... Other than that, the food, drinks and service were a disappointment. By the reviews, it looked promising. But, we should've known it wouldn't been a hit or miss due to the location in a touristy area. My husband ordered the hamburger and fries and his food was inedible - cold and the meat was very tough. They fortunately compted us for this, but it took awhile to flag down the server. I ordered the lobster and risotto, which wasn't terrible, but the lobster didn't feel fresh and as if had some freezer burn. Lastly, the drinks we ordered didn't taste like they had much alcohol in them. I'd only recommend this place to get some cool pictures of the interior, but nothing else.

Sofia D.

Yelp
I liked this restaurant, mostly because of the place which was beautiful. The food was was nice, but nothing to write home about. We got sweet potato soup which was good. Beet salad that didn't really look like a salad but more like a side dish. We got tasty risotto and file filet mignon. I got passion fruit cocktail, but I didn't like it The price was higher than expected.

Blah B.

Yelp
Eaten there twice. First time alone, food was mid at best. Second time myself and 100000 fruit flies sat the bar, food was mid, drinks not there, weak. Both times expensive and I was reminded of the price only because food and drinks were not worth it. Looks great inside, but everything else leaves a lot to be desired.

Chris K.

Yelp
Top notch bistro/brasserie. Caters more to the business lunch crowd, and is also a fantastic go-to if you're staying at the hotel. Highly recommend the French Pinot by the glass, oysters, steak tartare, salmon tartare, and anything else that looks good to you. Beautiful room, very good service.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast, beautiful ambiance, great service! Everything on my plate was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The drip coffee wasn't awesome, I'd probably skip that next time. Located inside Hotel Birks.

Dani S.

Yelp
Stopped into Henri Brasserie for breakfast and I have to admit.. the best breakfast I've had in Montreal. The vibes and ambience made you feel like royalty. The architecture was INSANE! The food was so good and for the price it was definitely amazing. Free hot drinks and juice with most items. Hot chocolate was amazing. The mimosa was just for the picture but I was told it was also good. Service was slow but very friendly and knowledgable. Great recommendations and honest!

Tina S.

Yelp
If I could give zero, I would. In fact, I can't even review the service, the food or the ambiance. We were very excited as we had secured a reservation on March 22, 2024 for June 8th, the Saturday of Grand Prix weekend. If anyone is familiar with the Grand Prix weekend, reservations must be made months in advance. On June 2, 5 days before the start of the Grand Prix we were called and told that the restaurant had cancelled our reservation. Initially, we were told it was a "glitch" in the computer system and our reservation had been lost, yet after much probing the person on the other end of the line finally acquiesced and admitted a large party booked the entire restaurant for the evening. Clearly the establishment feels that they are entitled and don't have to adhere to customer service. There was absolutely no empathy to the inconvenience this had caused. Their attitude was simply, we apologize but we don't care about everyone, just those that can either bring prestige to the restaurant or more money. Word of caution. Just because you make a reservation, don't be expected if they give it away if something better comes along.

Yelp
Very good food and service. Very friendly staff. I really enjoyed the Americana breakfast plate. The atmosphere is French. The employees all speak English and French.

Jocelyn U.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! Amazing ambiance and service. Love love love. Oysters, fois gras and pasta sublime.

Logan L.

Yelp
If you go to Henri, sit at the bar. The bartender named Oliver is the best I have ever came across. Beyond knowledgeable about the cuisine and drinks. I would come back to Montreal just to watch him work his craft. 10/10 experience under his care.

Philene C.

Yelp
Chose Henri for its lounge and finger food in the evening. Great open dining and lounge area. We had a friendly waiter tending us for the night that made lovely conversation. Overall a chic place for chilling with your friends over a couple of drinks and yummy snacks.

Gaurav G.

Yelp
Superb food! Amazing ambience. Professional staff. Have been to this place a couple of times- Never disappointed.

Olavo L.

Yelp
The ambiance is amazing, and the service is from a sophisticated restaurant. The food is great and they pay attention to the presentation. I would definitely recommend for especial occasion or business meals

Kseniya V.

Yelp
Came here last summer! The ambiance was extremely delightful and charming . The food was nice and the quality met all expectations. The restaurant got quite busy during the evening hours, so be prepared to wait some time for each entree. Having said that, it did not take anything away from the experience, and the staff were incredibly attentive and pleasant throughout our visit. A great place to visit especially for non Montreal natives, as it is located in such a prime area of the city.

Angelo R.

Yelp
For the first time in more than a decade I trusted the hotel concierge suggestion....I did not check Yelp reviews, and paid the consequence! This review reflects both quality of food (3 star) and service (less than 1 star). The manager style and customer service focus felt like a first rodeo in the hospitality industry.

Emily H.

Yelp
I've been there for a business lunch and the food was really great. Waiter was attentive to fill our glasses of wine and water. Let's not forget to mention the decor was absolutely stunning with their velvet seats

Susan A.

Yelp
Oh la la! A true French brasserie. We dined with a colleague of hubby who lives in Montreal. We sat outdoors on a lovely August afternoon for lunch. The service was impeccable. I had sparkling water, the green salad and the seafood risotto. Hubby had the shrimp cocktail which was fresh and came with a creamy remoulade dip and the smoked lobster salad. Portion sizes were just right...not those gargantuan American plates. Hubby quibbled with the bread...he was hoping for more of a French style baguette. We had not seen his colleague in years so the waiter gave us plenty of space to chat whilst seemingly knowing just when to intercede. Unfortunately, we did not, to my great regret, leave time for dessert and I was eager to try that very French dessert staple...the profiterole. Ah well...will come back here next time I am in town and leave time for that. They also had a lovely sounding carrot dish ...wish I could describe it better...but it was vegetarian which was a nice touch at a French restaurant. The vibe was upscale but plenty of people, including yours truly, were more casually dressed.

Yelp
Breakfast was superb Awesome ambience Coffee great Breads good Wish I had known about the place earlier

Joanie M.

Yelp
I had heard of this place so many times, but never actually set foot in to try it. Today was time to experience a lunch there. The place is absolutely gorgeous, a mix of the place's history with modern. It's bright and colorful and highly fancy. My knid of place. We all took the table d'hôte, everything was delicious from the simple salad to the decadent desserts, even my beet soup was stunning and tasteful. I felt the options were simple, things you know, but made i an elevated way. Perfect! On the wine side, there was some good choice, nothing extravagant but all good quality. We didn't try the cocktails but they seemed great. I'll have to try them another time. Everyone was nice and cheerful, helpful in a natural way. I simply had a great time, thanks.

Yelp
Respectueusement.

Yelp
I was anxiously awaiting for the day to come seeing that my foodie friends and I had made reservations weeks before to try this restaurant I've heard so much about. Firstly, the space is incredibly beautiful; high ceilings, marble, brass lighting, beautiful wood tables, etc. I can go on and on but you need to see it for yourself. The ambiance was great; the noise level was not too loud even though the restaurant was full, the music was fitting, and the clientele was classy. You definitely felt transported to another world if it weren't for the busy hustle of St Catherine street. Secondly, the service was impeccable! Our waitress Raphaëlle was gracious and friendly. Her recommendations on both the dishes and wines was spot on. The manager visited our table on numerous occasions for feedback on our evening. The staff paid attention to details and were courteous in compensating one of us who's food had to be redone as it didn't pass the chef's liking; she waited for a minute (yes, a minute) while we were all served. Finally, the food, although the prices may seem steep for portion, you are certainly paying for the great quality, beautiful presentation, and crazy delicious dishes; I especially loved my foie gras entrée served with brioche and cherry jam. The île flottante dessert was divine; light and delicate, just plain perfection. Overall, the evening was a win for all of us and we'd definitely put this restaurant on our re-do list.

Yelp
One of the best meals this time in Montreal. I really enjoyed the food and service. Lots of attention to detail. Great job

Steven B.

Yelp
The perfect place for a cocktail and a bite. In the beautiful Birks hotel, this little gem is beautifully designed with a subdued modern deco-esque dining room and bar area. Friendly service and a nice menu, my favorite is the beet salad ;) wether or not you are a guest at the Birks hotel this is a great place to chill out any time or meal of the day.

Yelp
My partner and I were guests at Hotel Birks and decided to get a drink at Henri Brasserie before going to our dinner reservation. As soon as we walked in, the maitre'd asked if we were staying there and demanded our room number for one of the hostesses to look up. I thought that was a bit weird and an unwelcoming way to "greet" someone but my partner said it was probably because they wanted to charge it to our room. I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. When we were presented with the bill, we told the bartender to charge it to our room. The bartender said "we don't do that here." Which confused us because why would the maitre'd hound us about whether we were staying at the hotel. My partner asked the bartender if they ask everyone if they were staying here and he said "I don't know why the maitre'd asked that. That was weird." I also asked the hostess and she didn't make eye contact and said "yes." It was pretty strange that the staff gave two different answers. It seemed like the maitre'd saw me, a black woman, and decided I couldn't possibly be staying at the hotel. After we paid our bill, tipped the bartender and left, the maitre'd came out of the restaurant in a belligerent and hostile manner and demanded to know what was going on. I explained that I felt discriminated against and made to feel unwelcome. He became even more hostile, rolling his eyes, insulted us, and claimed that they ask people their room number because they have people not paying their bills. Which leads me to ask why they singled me out and why would they believe I wouldn't pay my bill. In order to the defuse the situation, I said okay and left it at that but felt absolutely horrible and humiliated afterwards. The maitre'd was acting unprofessional, racist, and disrespectful. My experience can also be corroborated with other black and brown patrons which you can read in other reviews that I discovered after my experience. These similar reviews tell me this isn't an isolated incident. Discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, and/or gender is illegal. I don't suggest dining here if you're in Montreal. There are so many better restaurants like Mon Vin Lapin and others that treat everyone with respect and have better service.

Alice M.

Yelp

Anna B.

Yelp
Great French Fine Dining Experience! Reservations are highly recommended. Please be sure to bring your ID and vaccination card. The service was excellent and the staff was super friendly. Our food came out fast and we got great recommendations from the waiters. The cassoulet and steak is a must w/ a side of pomme frites. The restaurant is well decorated and has amazing lighting. Perfect for romantic date night, small and large gatherings. You can also show up and head to the bar area for drinks which is spacious and beautifully decorated.

Eric L.

Yelp
Super restaurant with high ceilings. Food was great (I had what was one of the best chicken I had in my life), and so was service. Will go again.

Christine N.

Yelp
Such a beautiful restaurant. Worth it just to admire the decor and ceilings! Went for lunch today and wasn't very busy for a Sunday. I had the gazpacho and the beef tartare which were both fantastic. Would 100% order them again. My friends had the croque madame and the omelette, both of which were delicious. Service was great as well.

Dawn C.

Yelp
Racist???You tell me??? So the reason that I'm giving this place 1 star is for the fact that I can't it give zero stars. So Sunday morning , November 21st between 9am and 10 am, my family and I were first time visitors to Montreal and on our first morning out we decided to check out Henri- Brassiere Francaise in the Hotel Birks for breakfast, because of the reviews and close proximity to where we were staying. A white couple ahead of us was escorted and seated, then the host turned to us and asked us to wait. He walked away towards a woman who looked over at our group of 5, he came back and told us they were expecting a large group in 15 minutes so they could not accommodate us. There were about 10 persons dining and many empty tables. We felt unwelcome! So Black visitors BEWARE!! Spend your money elsewhere."Universel Dejeuners et Grillades" was wonderful( both food and service) There we can truly recommend.

Malvina L.

Yelp
Food: very unique ingredients if you dont like experiencing new food dont suggest it has specific taste and the portions are not big for the price you pay. I got the polish cocktail and it was a bit too strong. Tips: they dont give you bread until you ask for it even though its free of charge. Location: very aesthetic interior very modern and classic.

Dimitri P.

Yelp
Celebrated my dad's 80th birthday there as he wanted caviar, oysters and a fancy night out. It was beautiful, from the decor to the service and of course the food. The side of mushrooms was insanely savory. Every dish looked and tasted amazing. What truly stood out was the expert and knowledgeable service. I ordered a Cucu La Praline for desert, which was a drink but with mousse à la praline, it was crazy delicious. We also ordered off menu a few Îles Flottantes for dessert, which is a delecacy that I hadn't enjoyed in years. Just a wonderful time for a special experience when in Montréal.

Isabelle D.

Yelp

Brigitt H.

Yelp
The restaurant is a beautiful art-deco room. The beauty of the '20's has been kept. The service was very good. I have to say that the waiter was especially 'taken' by my father-in-law (or so it seemed, and barely addressed me). The food was very good. I had the salmon tartare and my father-in-law had the cod, and we were very happy with our choices. The bread was very good, as was the butter. The glassware is just beautiful. Fare prices.

IiiSophia L.

Yelp
I would rate this a 1 million stars this is the best restaurant I've bin to. I'm a super very picky eater and somehow this restaurant could cut through that. If you are a meat person I suggest "wagyu steak"

Lucy F.

Yelp
The food is delicious... not mind blowing but combined with the beautiful setting, you can expect a lovely meal for a reasonable price. HOWEVER, I am not sure I would go back because of my experience with the manager. Our reservation was at 2 PM. Since we had to wait quite a while for the valet, we ended up getting in the restaurant at 2:09, where we were told that the kitchen was closed. They went to get the manager who confirmed that the kitchen closes at 2:30 and that they stop taking orders at 2:15. When I pointed out that it wasn't 2:15 yet, he simply shrugged and said there is nothing he could do!?! We were leaving when the hostess who had gone to the kitchen while we were talking to the manager came to tell us that the kitchen was ok with receiving orders until 2:30. I guess the manager just felt like finishing early today. It's appalling that such a high end place is managed so poorly. In the end, I am grateful that the hostess was so kind and the service itself was great. Also, they are one of the few places that serve Paris Brest for desert and it was excellent.

Sandy P.

Yelp
The room is absolutely beautiful!!! Cocktails were lovely. My hamburger was disappointing. Rather bland and the bun, a yummy brioche bun, could not hold up to the burger and I ended up having to eat it with a fork and knife. The fries were good. I wanted to finish on a positive note so I ordered the profiteroles.Figuring it is a French restaurant and the desserts must be special. Wrong!! A waste of calories. But the most disappointing of all was the service, or better yet the total lack of it. The ladies next to us also commented about the poor service as were discussing the features of the beautiful restaurant
