A community-driven Tuesday market where vendor fees support Kaiser High PTSA programs. Expect a friendly, neighborhood mix of produce growers and prepared foods in the lower parking lot—great for an early dinner run. Yelp
I'm not happy about the graduation ceremony dress code as I'm sure a lot of students feel that they should get to be themselves on the last day that defines their end to childhood and entry into young-adulthood marked by ceremony and walking to accept their diploma is a heavy and weighty feeling. To finally experience a relief of the culmination of their hard work- matching everyone and being so strict about it just defines the Hawaii Public School's under-funding and in my opinion, over exertion of "power." They don't need a strict dress code of matching colors of white and black only! They'll look like a class of waiters or servers. Please fix this. School colors would be okay, or just have a simple dress code of "professional!" Why is that not okay? Side Note: Hawaii schools look like prisons. I implore people to do more for Hawaii Public Schools; redesign, fix, and change is necessary. Take your cues from the schools like Issaqua High School, in Issaquah, WA., Eastlake HS, etc. Not having DECA, choices for lunch, and zero snack machines is crazy!! You can make so much money for the school through programs set up by Coca Cola and Pepsi and there are so many ways to make the school better- plus the office people. Please fix their terrible attitudes and sickening power issues they possess. I've never hated going to a high school office more than yours. Growing up the ladies and gentlemen in the office of a High School were always helpful, caring, inviting, & friendly. It's outrageous to experience this front desk team of mean people. I don't know if it's designed that way but it's wrong on so many levels. I shall digress, back to the main point: Their cap and gown and sashes for upstanding presidents list & 4.0 (4.25 this year) students should be your focus (Cum Laude/Summa Cum Laude, etc.,), are you even doing that? How do parents get so little information from the school? It's about time you people stepped up to the plate and stopped your worry about what's under their cap & gowns and focus on your real problems. I've seen the way some kids are dressed for school in items that leave nothing to the imagination. So why, on this day, are you acting like you have it all together? For show? That's kinda about right, unfortunately. And you put it on the families or the kids can't walk. If other parents watched the video by Mr. Taraoka, he must've threatened detention 25 times or more or telling seniors, "you won't be able to walk!" Totalitarian is the definition I'd use. It's distressing to say the least. The class of 2023 is kind, generous, smart, funny, and skilled. Treat them like the young adults they are and remove the dress code for graduation to "professional," minus the color matching. It's a simple thing, really, and would make the most sense. Mahalo Nui Loa!

Yelp
Each year the Hawaii Kai Lions Club has their annual Fathers Day Pancake Breakfast fundraiser in the cafeteria. Theres plenty of parking in front of the administration building and next to the football field. The only problem I saw was that the elderly had a hard time walking up the stairs to the cafeteria. But once at the top, they were all smiles as the Lions Club greeted each person and thanked them for supporting them. Before entering the cafe, they had a small CPR demonstration and a booth on the flotation devices (which a law was passed to have them near the beaches where no lifeguards are at). At the front door, we were greeted and thanked once again. Then the food!!! They gave us 3 linked sausages, choice of 3 pancakes or a huge corn bread, rice and eggs. It also came with a drink, either POG or milk and it was all for $7. Some of the Lions apologized cause they had to raise the price from last year. But as a City Councilman said, "Where can you go on Fathers Day and pay only $7 for breakfast?" So true... This is the Hawaii Kai Lions Club annual fundraiser, which was a huge success and mahalo to KHS for allowing them to have their fundraiser there. Monies that the Lions collected is for their service projects and scholarships that they give out. So head to this fundraiser next Fathers day!

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about my kids' high school; the teachers and staff have all been exceptionally helpful in helping the kids transition into a new school system. They truly care about the kids as people, not just students - even my kids have commented on this. Whenever I have had questions or any issues with my kids have come up, teachers and staff are really responsive and helpful. We totally made the right choice when we selected our home based on this school district after moving here from Virginia.

Yelp
The school is a nice size school with a huge football stadium . Recently attended a game at this highschool and was pleasantly surprised on how the parking situation was handled. Both school staff and students we there to guide cars and make sure everything was orderly. Now that I think of it, it was their homecoming game and it was nice to see how much school pride they have! This seems like a real good school to go to if you lived In the area.

Yelp
I hate this school admins suck and campus is very old. Only reason for the 2 stars is the ac in most classes

Yelp
Academically, it's a great school as the students score high on standardized testing. However, many of the admin/staff/teachers are poorly fit for the job, including the principal himself. The school should focus more on the well being of their students who have trouble with their mental/physical health rather than helping the ones who are already succeeding greatly. There is no unity or school spirit in this school and there is one teacher that is constantly complained about year after year and the administration won't do nothing about it. This teacher, Mr.WESCOTT single handedly ruined my experience at this school along with many others.

Yelp
Has a nice track and pool. Located in Hawaii Kai. Kaiser has a really big parking lot. Many students drive to school. It's about 5-10 minutes to Sandy Beach. Awesome!

Yelp
The best public high school in Hawaii- scoring high with standardized testing, great sports teams, and the coveted IB program (progressive and highly esteemed). I see many grads as professionals in Hawaii which is no doubt partly due to the great education here!

Yelp
Well, where do I start? I had the misfortune to attend this garbage dump of a school in 1978/79 during my freshman year. It was a very bad experience. The teachers in that school did not know how to teach and their leadership qualities were very lacking. Another reviewer claimed that Kaiser being among the top five schools were drug use is rampant are just rumors. I can tell you they are not rumors. Three-quarters of the student body smoked marijuana at the time I was there (or at least that's what several of the pothead students told me, I have no way to verify that). And sadly, I was subject to constant bullying from my first day to the last. Part of the reason for the bullying was my refusal to buy pot from the potheads. As a consequence, my grades suffered. I was constantly harassed by classmates in my marine biology, world cultures, guidance and French classes. Our world cultures teacher was the worst. Almost every day she would let the film projector do the teaching and she would walk out, allowing my classmates to harass me in her absence. Many times I was referred to by the bullies by a specific name other than my real one. Even though I ignored them and never gave them the time of day, that didn't stop it. Finally to add insult to injury, I discovered one of the bullies lived in the same condo complex I did so even when the school year was over, my summer was just as painful as the school year. He and his friends would bully me outside my home, as well as the specific name that I was referred to in school. It even lasted to my last day there when me and my family moved out. Both the administrators and the teachers at Kaiser were never helpful with the bullying issue. Plus I had to deal with racism from the locals who have a problem with mainlanders/people of Japanese descent. Keep in mind it was not my choice or my desire to live in Hawaii, that decision was made by my parents who knew nothing of the tensions in Hawaii.
