The Best Hotels of the Outer Boroughs

"Henry Norman Hotel is a modern boutique hotel with an old-school inspiration. It’s set in a 19th-century textile warehouse, and its studios, suites, and penthouses offer loft-style living complete with hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and, in many cases, a terrace or even a roof deck. The décor is retro-inspired, as are some of the comforts — a vintage taxi is on hand for use as an in-house car service." - Mark Fedeli

"Set in Greenpoint, the next neighborhood up from Williamsburg in North Brooklyn, the Henry Norman Hotel is a modern boutique hotel with an old-school inspiration. It’s set in a 19th-century textile warehouse, and its studios, suites, and penthouses offer loft-style living complete with hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and, in many cases, a terrace or even a roof deck. The décor is retro-inspired, as are some of the comforts — a vintage taxi is on hand for use as an in-house car service. The restaurant and bar are soon to arrive; until then there’s a well-stocked minibar and plenty of options in the neighborhood." - Tablet Hotels

A nice location and very helpful reception staff. Room was beautiful, spacious with a comfy bed. No street noises on 2nd floor with room overlooking street. Interiors had artworks, modern and fun. We found a great bakery nearby and explored on foot to find good restaurants. Small terraces look out on Manhattan skyline views. Couldn't have asked for better on our first visit to NY.

Excellent staff and service. Miriam and Martin were hospitable, accommodating, friendly, and efficient. The hotel was beautiful and amenities superb- refreshing cucumber mint lemon water, amazing coffee and tea, clean restrooms and spacious rooms. I was overjoyed at my stay- and the location was quiet yet close. It was one of the best hotel stays in the city I have ever had.

The rooms are massive, and amenities are fantastic, but it’s really the delightful staff that makes this place a must-stay. Thank you to Jory and Mariam for looking after your guests so well. Truly the most pleasant New York hotel experience I’ve ever had.

Don't let the high price fool you, this is not a luxury hotel. It's not even a nice hotel. This building is not suitable to be a hotel. They skipped the basics and put lipstick on a pig. They cut corners during construction, and decided on ZERO soundproofing. The walls and more importantly floors are paper thin. You can hear every little sound every one of your neighbors makes. Once the construction was done, someone decided to buy the cheapest bedding, furniture, plumbing fixtures, in room coffee machine, etc. they could find. If you cover your head with the lousy Ikea sheets, you may be lucky enough for the obnoxiously loud AC/heat unit to smother you in it's hum long enough for a moment of solace from the noise of your neighbors. Bring earplugs. A few things they got right: The location is great. The front desk staff at this hotel are very pleasant and housekeeping makes sure it's very clean. The shower water is hot and has good pressure.

Hotel exceeded our expectations! We were looking to book a room last minute in Manhattan, and prices were insanely high, luckily The Henry Norman popped up in Brooklyn because it ended up being such a gem that we can’t wait to return to. The room was so spacious, clean and had such a cool vibe! It felt like a studio apartment. A great deal for the price!||The staff were super friendly and helpful with directions to the train station which was a nice easy walk from the hotel. I’d love to return and spend more time there. If you don’t mind training into the city, highly recommend staying here for the extra space and modern cool decor. One of the best stays we’ve had NY.||Thank you to the Henry Norman Hotel, look forward to visiting again soon!

Very hip boutique hotel tucked away in an odd industrial neighborhood, bordering quaint residential neighborhoods. Was a little hesitant when we were driving up to the hotel, but once we found it we were pleasantly surprised. Very artistic and interesting architectural elements. The suite room was very roomy with a comfortable queen bed and a decent pull-out couch. Weekend price was almost 2x the weekday price, but still comparable to other hotels nearby. The don't have a full bar, but will sell you small bottles of liquor and mixers in the main lobby and you can serve yourself. Not really that bad.

Please stay away from this hotel if you don’t want to get scammed.||||Long and short of it is…||||I’m bringing in a group from Japan. Plans changed and I needed a larger room. I booked insurance for this booking and was told by Expedia that the hotel refused to refund the room but if I cancelled I could use the insurance. ||||Cool.||||Not the hotels problem.||||I cancelled the room and the insurance company denied my claim. Also not the hotels problem.||||I was told by Expedia I could call the hotel myself, and that Expedia would waive all fees associated with this booking if the hotel would refund the room. I called the number given by Expedia and was promptly hung up on without saying a word. ||||So I called the front desk and asked if I could speak with a manager about a booking dispute. Instantly the response was “yo yo yo first off what dispute are you crying about?”||||I was floored at that level of unprofessionalism from Martin. Especially for a hotel charging almost 400 a night.||||I collected myself and explained my situation and was told to email the hotel. Which I did. Awhile later another person from the hotel called and offered to refund the room as long as I agreed to book THE SAME ROOM with them at their rate of 600 dollars.||||I would rather light 200 dollars on fire than give any money to this scam of a hotel. Not only were they extremely unprofessional. But from reading reviews it seems that Martin has worked there much longer than the two weeks he told me. ||||Liars and thieves. ||||The photos of the hotel look nice, unfortunately I will never know. You might have a good experience like the people above. Or you might be demeaned and scammed out of 400 like I was. ||||Book at your own risk.

We stayed at the Henry Norman Hotel for five nights, July 25-30, 2024 and it was one of the best hotel stays that i have ever experienced. Issaiah, Martin and the rest of the hotel staff were incredibly professional, knowledgeable and generous with their time and services. The property was well-maintained and extremely comfortable. Several other family members also stayed there during the week - all of us were completely satisfied with our hotel choice. I highly recommend this hotel for an incredible Brooklyn visit.
