Let me start off by saying the ice cream was good. It tasted just like homemade ice cream should. That being said it wasn’t worth the price. It was over 13$ for two single scoops in waffle cones……. That’s kind of where our visit went down hill. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind spending money for quality things. But that’s a bit much for two scoops of ice cream. I mean, that’s two tubs of bluebell. Which a half gallon of theirs is $18 so how does two scoops for $13 makes sense. Also, the presentation in the cooler was less than appealing. The ice cream was very runny very fast. Which I do expect from homemade so that’s not a huge deal but everything seemed very dated in this place and not in the good ways. I mean, I’ve paid $18 for a milkshake and felt like it was worth it. This was not that though. I mean, not even having a free water cup spent after I just spent $13 on two scoops of ice cream is ridiculous. When walking in there’s a giant sign talking crap about Chase Bank. I understand they did your business wrong but that’s part of doing business. Don’t make it the communities problem.

I went with my mom yesterday for the first time. Service was so friendly and they were generous and encouraging with the samples. I ended up getting a sundae with spumoni ice cream (that had pistachios and cherries mixed in!) and my mom got pecan praline in a chocolate dipped cone. It was so good and we will definitely be back to the more flavors. The ice cream is made in-house and definitely tasted fresh. They had the classic flavors plus a bunch of interesting combos I’d like to try next time.

The best ice cream I have ever had in my life time. ML Toffee on a crunchy chocolate dipped cone. Jane was outstanding with her service!

People who rate this place less than 4 must have issues in their personal lives. I believe owner’s response is as good as his ice cream. It was a delicious ice cream for what i paid for. Being in a business 40+ years is amazing. Congratulations

Google
Henry’s offers old standbys and creative new flavors of ice cream. The name says homemade and it tastes homemade. I can taste the milk fat. We visited on a cold January day to buy an ice cream cake. The cake was nicely decorated. Some reviews have said the service was not good. That was not our experience. Staff were welcoming and friendly.

I got the huge mix (cone something) in a waffle cone, couldn’t be more happy. It was SO good and I really hope to go back soon. My parents loved the cinnamon ice cream as well.

Google
Best ice cream in town!!! They make all ice cream in house. It’s absolutely delicious and a fun place to end the day. I absolutely agree….. ice cream makes you PRETTY 💕🍾💕

Google
Love this place. Best rum raisin ice cream in the world. Also tried peppermint and it was amazing. By the way, Rum Raisin and Peppermint are perfect together to my surprise. I go here any time I'm in Plano.

Yelp
I haven't been there recently, but his ice cream is exceptionally delicious. Please try it and see for yourself!

Yelp
Wow!!! Senator Shapiro's TX praline combined with Henry and Carolyn's Wedding Cake. OMG, otherworldly! Bow down to these three! I was feeling rather sad for myself after a lousy morning and knew I needed to treat myself to dinner and dessert in an effort to turn my evening around. I'd actually found Henry's a few days ago while looking for a hot dog spot. I'd already devoured a dinner plate when I arrived so a hot dog was out of the question for this visit but I'm totally doing a hot dog, followed by ice cream on my next visit. My split cone, and patriotic rainbow sprinkled waffle cone was soul satisfying! I sat outside and it melted all over. Not a single f given. I left a sticky mess but totally worth it. I'll surely return in the future and hope these two flavors are staples because they nailed them. I've tasted some great ice cream and to be completely honest, that wedding cake flavor should be award winning if it isn't. The flavor profile combined with the texture components. Sensational! Service was friendly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We drove by on a random day while talking about ice cream and made a U-turn to get there. We were helped by a lovely and pleasant lady behind the counter who gave us some context to Henry's! It was my first time seeing a superman flavor in over a decade so I had to have some. Their scoops are outright HUGE! We all ordered a kiddie cone and it felt as big as a braum's regular. Their front flavors switch when theyre out and they have classic flavors hidden behind the counter! (read the signs) They also have hotdogs and such as well. will definitely be coming back to support this local small business!!

Yelp
After our Family Father's Day lunch. We went to chill at this Ice Cream Shop. I ordered Banana Split with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, everything on it. It's delicious. Friendly Serving Staff. Clean and nicely decorated ice cream shop. Lots of parking, too.

Yelp
Great ice cream. Love the coconut ice cream. They even have a small cup for our pup.

Yelp
I love Henry's! This is a must-stop local ice cream shop in Plano that's been in the business for 30+ years. They have so many specialty flavors such as mango, lime sherbet, and corn. The prices are great too especially with how much ice cream they give you. They have an old-style classic design, with wooden chairs and big round dining tables. It reminds me of furniture from thrift stores which brings back memories from my childhood. I love the mango flavor. It's creamy, light, and sweet. Other places have mango flavor as a sherbet, but this store actually sells creamy mango ice cream which is exactly what I'm looking for. The workers are friendly and they'll let you sample the flavors as you like. I usually ask for 1-2 samples since the store is always packed when we go, and I don't want to hold up the line. Their butter pecan is so delicious! They don't limit the amount of pecans because every lick has a piece of pecan! Each scoop is huge, and it'll definitely fill you up-- even their kids' size. Their cones are very affordable as well. The waffle cones are $1.31, and the cake cones are $1.10. Most places sell them for $3+. The only thing they can improve on is putting napkins on every table. There are napkin holders, but never any napkins. We always have to go back into the line just to grab some. There are so many flavors here so everyone will definitely find something they like!

Yelp
Good ice cream, reasonable price and the best part is it's so clean on the inside. Also they have a really good hot dog deal, I don't know if it was a special at the time but when I was there it was two hot dogs, chips and a drink for $4.29. I think my only complaint would be that I had the waffle cone crunch on my visit and it was all kinds of rainbow colors which in my opinion was completely unnecessary, there's no reason to add food dyes to ice cream. I get that it makes it more fun for the kids but Unnecessary nonetheless. *Poor *Decent *Good *Great *Best *JLFoodie Certified Food. Good Service. Best Cleanliness. Best Consistency. Good nothing Variety. Good Value. Good

Yelp
Best ice cream in town and the sweetest people helping us at the counter!! Especially Jane. She is simply the best! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Although we hadn't been here in several years - it has always been our go-to for an ice cold sweet treat on a hot Texan summer day (and every season in between). This past visit, yesterday 8/6/2024, I glanced over the available flavors and decided on one scoop of Guava and one scoop of Vanilla Almond in a regular size cup. Mom got a scoop of Coconut and Vanilla Almond (also in a regular size cup). The ice cream itself lent a rich, creamy flavor with a smooth texture and mouthfeel. It also did not melt right away, so it is clear that high-quality ingredients are utilized in its preparation. Upon entering, we were assisted by Jamie (and a gentleman whose name I did not get). Seating is limited, and I would imagine it gets crowded at peak times, so try to time your arrival accordingly. We custom ordered 1/2 gallon of Guava and 1/2 gallon of Lavender Ice Cream before leaving. The first time I tasted the Lavender Ice Cream was at Fireside Pies in 2015 (at Shops at Legacy in Plano which closed its location and is no longer in business) and have been addicted ever since.

Yelp
Knock-you-down-absolute-best-ever!! Totally unfair that Henry's is SO far away (north of LBJ, aargh). Buy it at Jimmy's in East Dallas. Clean and excellent ingredients. Warning: you'll never settle for mega-brand ice cream again, no matter how 'premium' they claim to be!

Yelp
Been a fan of Henry Gentry and his exceptional homemade ice cream since he moved here to Plano Tx in 1992. I agree with every positive review regarding his products and old fashioned store. Today I want to feature his Hot Dog special. With Portillo's and others opening with emphasis on Chicago Dogs you must try Henry's American Dog. It's reminiscent of 1950's old fashion style. He uses Hirsch's specialty meat. No tough casing to chew through! Two big Hot Dogs ,chips, and a drink $3.99 You must stop in and try , plus top it off with a scoop of ice cream the size of Texas .

Yelp
The summer of '22 was a hot one so I ended up checking out a bunch of local ice creameries to cool myself down. I am definitely down to support a local business, so that's why I gave Henry's a shot. Compared to the places I had been to recently, the flavor selection was a little lackluster. This may also be an unfavorable opinion, but I did not like the wooden spoon they served the ice cream with. I prefer a smooth plastic vehicle to deliver the cool dessert to my mouth, rather than that dry wood product. The seating inside is large and good for groups. Plenty of parking in the lot outside. Random side note: I was kind of put off by the large signage about Chase bank in the storefront. It seems very passive aggressive.

Yelp
Based on the positive reviews, we decided to give this place a try. Upon arriving, I was immediately thrown off by the sign on the window exposing the owners strong distaste for Chase Bank, supposedly caused by a previous financial incident. I will add the photo for others to read for themselves. Neither of us found this appropriate or professional to be plastered on your stores window. We went inside and there was one girl who greeted us who was very friendly and we tried to disregard the sign out front....until we read the menu and they created a flavor called "Dump Chase"...these people really hate Chase Bank... The first girl who greeted us went to help someone else as we were still deciding what flavor to try. The other employees working at the time were not friendly at all and rather rude. I didn't get any names but the friendly one was a brunette with a nose ring and some tattoos. Shout out to her for being a light in an otherwise not so bright environment. I ordered a spumoni ice cream on a waffle cone and the ice cream itself wasn't bad but as soon as it melted even a little it was pouring out a small hole at the bottom of my cone, which wasn't a fun experience. Overall, not the best first impression aside from that one nice employee and we won't be returning. I would also like to advise the owner to take down that sign about Chase as it left a terrible taste in our mouths and I'm sure will/has for many others. Regardless of what situation occurred or your opinion of another person and/or company, publicly bashing them and then vindictively naming a flavor negatively after them is petty and does not look good for your business.

Yelp
So very disappointing. We've been coming here for almost 20 years, tonight cones were handed to us half melted half gallon in the freezer was soft before we got to thecar.
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
I hadn't been here in a while. Things have changed. The ice cream was so soft it was almost liquid. There was no depth of flavor. Very little ingredients. I don't go back.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best places to stop by if you're in town for a visit, I'm not from the Texas area so this was fun, the smaller shops always have the most friendly people and amazing recipes !!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The ice cream was good but the building, decor and staff seem tired. One scoop is enough to feed two people but if you ask for an extra cup to put the excess in you'll get a hot dog container. (Strange!) We each got a single scoop and ended up throwing half of it away. They use wooden type spoons and even though they have tables outside but when it's time to throw your trash away you have to go back inside.

Yelp
Best ice cream in the universe, especially spumoni and corn ice cream. I hope to taste all their flavors and I'm still waiting to get a shake.

Richard S.

Yelp
Definitely some AMAZING ice cream. The level of service is also excellent. One of the staff members gave some history on their toffee flavor ice cream, and I can tell she cares about their customers. Please consider supporting small businesses, especially when you can get product AND service that exceeds what you get in a large chain (not naming any names...or numbers ) Thank you Henry's Homemade Ice Cream!

Yelp
First and last time coming to this shop. I was rudely told me to move outside by someone I thought was a vendor. To my surprise, I walk into Henry's to find out he's the owner. What ever happened to manners? So unprofessional. It doesn't matter if someone is a janitor or CEO, you treat EVERYONE with the same respect. Maybe you should treat people better than shame them for their honesty. I'm sure you have wonderful ice cream but next time simply say "excuse me". I hope you use this as a learning experience to be better. Yelp
Irresistible I am a big fan of Salt and Straw in Larchmont, Venice Beach, South Pasadena, Art District in LA, a big flavorful waffle cone, a huge size of one scoop ice cream, Sea Salt Caramel's very salty, creamy and sweet ice cream, worth wait in line an hour, a long hot summer night with friends and family, I couldn't find out any great ice cream shop in Plano, TX. However, after eating brunch with my daughter nearby, she suggested that this ice cream shop is popular in this area. I was enticed when I read 'handmade', and ready to check this out. Compared to popularity, this is hole-in-the-wall with two tables with chairs, and few kinds of ice cream buckets in the cases, I chose very common flavor, strawberry. It was good, fresh, big flavors, and irresistible. But I still am wanting to back to LA having jolly time with a huge, flavorful ice cream, and a neat and tidy deco, even though there's big lines.

Yelp
Their Nutty cones, coffee, strawberry and chocolate ice cream were all wonderful and service was superb. Homie and friendly atmosphere. My kids had a wonderful time.

Yelp
Decided to come in after they were at an event a couple if months ago. I was not super impressed by the taste of their ice cream. Homemade ice cream as a special and authentic taste and theirs just did not have it. It tasted like ice cream that I could get anywhere. There was really nothing special. And it sucks because I was so excited to come here. I did like that it was not super sweet and overly heavy. I got their vanilla recees and black raspberry. I wish that I would've just gotten one or the other as together they did not make the best combination. I was able to try them separately though and they were just okay, but definitely did not have that unique and homemade taste I was expecting especially due to the name. Also, I liked that they allowed me to try a couple of flavors before I decided what I wanted. I would look to another spot for "homemade" and old school ice cream. Henrys missed the mark for me.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved the many options of cones and ice creams here. It was hard to choose just one, but I went with ube and it was an amazing choice! I loved the chunks of fresh ube and how creamy the overall texture was. I wish I could indulge and try more flavors, but I will have to wait a bit until I lose some of the weight I gained during the pandemic!

Yelp
Hot summer day in July. No better reason to stop by for more ice cream. Lucky us we found a shaded parking spot.

Yelp
Henry's Homemade Ice Cream has their own name, history, and reputation in Plano, Texas. I first tried Henry's out at Royse City's Main Street Emporium, on historic Main Street district of eateries and shops. Pretty good stuff with 16% butter fat, it is creamy! Henry's delivers their ice cream to other vendors. You see the delivery trucks parked here. I saw Spumoni listed on the side of their truck, so I went inside. I'm a big fan of authentic East Coast Spumoni, but I was let down a bit here. It was 1PM, staff was pleasant enough, the place was empty. Looked like they had busy work to do. The spumoni was scooped from a separate small cooler. I was not well-frozen. Hmmm. I thought about trying another flavor, but customers came inside, I took that as signal to move on.
google avatar

Ro L.

Yelp
This review may not be what you're expecting, Henry's is an ice cream shop however I stopped by because of the $1 hot dog sign at their front door. I'm a sucker for hot dogs, so I had to try it. The sign states the hot dogs are from a local butchers shop called Hirsch's Meats which is well known in Plano. Hot dogs are of average size, served warm, very tasty and only $1! The shop itself is quite outdated, old decor, feels crowded and not very clean. They had packets of old salsa dried up at the condiment table. I've heard the ice cream is yummy, I've just never head it myself.
google avatar

Yelp
I love going to Henry's! They greet you like a friend when you come in the door. Have delicious familiar flavors and interesting concoctions as well. The ice cream is creamy and fresh. The people behind the counter are friendly and helpful. Great place to go!

Yelp
My craving for today was ice cream, so I turned to Yelp to lead me in the right direction. Here are my results... Walking into this establishment reminded me of an ice cream parlor in Illinois. Country Ice Cream was the name of it, family owned and operated. A small & cute parlor with friendly staff and quality ice cream. Henry's has all of that, unfortunately the flavor (banana pudding) didn't stand up to my expectations. Price: Reasonable $5.65 for one scoop with nutty buddy waffle cone. Staff: Friendly, but her listening skills were lacking. I asked for one scoop of banana pudding & one scoop of butter pecan. She smiled then replied okay. As she was fixing my cone she must've forgot what I asked for, as she asked me again. I repeat my order all for her to give me one scoop of banana pudding and pumpkin something or other. Ummmmm yeah, that isn't what I asked for, so I repeated my order again. Then she told me they didn't carry butter pecan. So, I just purchased the one scoop of banana pudding. Flavor & cone: The waffle cone was EXCELLENT!!! I love nuts, so this was a pleasant addition to my ice cream selection. Imagine a Hershey's almond bar melted on a waffle cone.... that's the nutty buddy cone. Yum:) The banana pudding ice cream tasted more like vanilla ice cream with banana flavoring added to it. I was expecting pieces of vanilla wafers or chucks of bananas with every bite. Nope.... just the banana flavoring. However the waffle cone saved this ice cream cone for me. Will I return to this location, probably not but it is a nice place for a family gathering, teenagers to chill or a first date.

Yelp
I was a little disappointed with the ice cream. My mom and I went for a treat and I got Trefoil in a waffle cone and she did two flavors also in a waffle cone. The flavors were good, but fell short after a while. Mostly disappointed in the temperature of the ice cream and how FAST it melted. It was already way too soft and dripping down your arm just as they served it to you. (Today, more importantly this evening was NOT a hot day) so for it to be melting that fast was disappointing. The waffle cones are homemade which is a plus. However they aren't rolled right enough so there is a big hole at the bottom making the ice cream fall straight through. The outside area was a mess. Tables were sticky, the sidewalk covered in melted ice cream. Again, today wasn't hot. The girl working was super friendly and gave great customer service. The inside was nice and clean.

Yelp
Thank You Todd!!! We were already close to home when I realized I had left behind something of personal value... I phoned it in and Todd very kindly found it & secured for me till we made our way back My littler one enjoyed her Dino Eggs kids cup We also picked up a pint of chocolate for home I was hoping to photo op my Henry with the ice cream shop's namesake but was told that Henry wasn't there today -- maybe next time!!

Yelp
Visited yesterday and was it a great treat! Entering the shop it gives a homey feeling right away and you can easily tell it's a tenured locale (they've been around for 35+ years!) We saw about 10 flavors out and asked the employee how they go about their selection and he mentioned that there's about 200 flavors they have, but only select a certain amount for the day. Great way for customers to come back and try something new each visit. There are about 6 flavors that are always out which are their award winning flavors. The first one that caught my eye was cinnamon, so I got a sample and it was just perfect. The flavor of cinnamon was not to overpowering and sat just right. This was also one of the first times the ice cream literally melted in my mouth, so that gives you an idea that they store the ice cream at the perfect temperature. Ultimately, I went with the option of Wedding Cake flavor, which seemed to actually have pieces of cake in it and tasted incredible and Cinnamon in a sprinkle covered cone! My girlfriend opted for Cinnamon and Maple Walnut, which had a very subtle sweet taste to it while tasting just like syrup and having that nice Walnut flavor to balance it out. Will be coming back for more as there's just too many flavors to

Yelp
Stopped in on National Ice Cream day for a treat (side note: who comes up with these things?), and Henry's really delivered. There are a variety of "classic" flavors to choose from, as well as a good number of rotating flavors. The frozen goodness can be served in a cup, several types of cones, or as a sundae, banana split, or shake. We opted for a banana split with the classic flavors, and a "dirt sundae", the latter featuring hot fudge and Oreo cookie "dust" as the dirt, along with optional gummi worms for the finishing touch (I politely declined). My chosen ice cream flavors were cookie dough and rocky road, and the sundae was delicious, with the ice cream being super creamy and the hot fudge chocolatey and rich. Banana split featured a fairly ripe banana and equally delicious ice cream, especially the great tasting strawberry. This place serves good, old fashioned ice cream in a very casual setting, and is a great place to cool off any time of the year. They even serve hot dogs from nearby Hirsch's Meat Market if you want some savory food as well. Check them out!

Yelp
Best Pie I had in 2021!!! I know I know it is a ice cream shop I was at a restaurant earlier this year and the waitress asked if we had room for desert like they always do and before we could say no she said that we have to try her favorite CAPPACHINO ICE CREAM PIE .. Now it is not only the best pie I had in 2021 but the best desert. Don't get mad at me if you try it and keep going back for more .

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times now. Each time I've been willing to give this place a chance but the experiences just fall short. I was just greeted with a stare upon coming up to the counter. The female worker today was kind of rude and did not seem willing to help me pick my ice cream flavor. I just blindly picked a flavor to avoid being a nuisance. The ice cream at Henry's is decent but nothing compared to other places such as Beth Marie's. I do like the variety of cones available (the nutty buddy, cookie cone, waffle cone, etc). Otherwise... eh.
google avatar

Lizzy C.

Yelp
I honestly really enjoy Henry's! My favorite flavor is the Wedding Cake! Giving it 4 stars because wedding cake has been out of stock the past couple of times i've gone

Yelp
About half the time I come here the ice cream is practically melted or soft. I only come because my wife and daughter somehow like it.

Yelp
There's no word in the English language for the experience of rewatching a beloved childhood movie, only to realize it really wasn't very good and you were just a dumb kid. Henry's Homemade Ice Cream is the antithesis to that word. My mom would take me to Henry's when I was a little boy and I LOVED his ice cream. We would bring home tubs of all our favorites, especially cinnamon, and there's no question that every single flavor beat Blue Bell, a Texas classic, by a mile. I grew up. I left Texas. I forgot about Henry and his famous ice cream. But somehow I ended up back where I started and everything about my childhood began to reveal itself to me all over again. Suddenly I found myself remembering. My new job took me to Plano one day, and that's when Henry and his famous ice cream came back to me like some mystical realm that time forgot. Same late 80s, early 90s decor. Same people. Same outstanding ice cream. I've been all over the world since my mom first took me to Henry's. So congratulations, this is it. You've found the Yelp page for the greatest ice cream maker to have ever walked the earth. Thank you, Henry, for staying true to the people of North Texas. Thank you for never changing. And thank you for your amazing talent.

Yelp
Best homemade Ice Cream ever! We've started to frequent this place for all our IceCream desires.

Yelp
Love this place! It's really good to many great selections to pick from. They were very helpful allowing you to taste any selection you wanted to try.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place and support local, but it was awful I had just plain old fashioned chocolate ice cream it was so frozen that there were clumps of ice, it was like eating a bad popsicle, the waffle cone was so think I couldn't even bite into it, sorry not sorry
google avatar

Wes O.

Yelp
Henry's is a treasure. It's an old fashioned ice cream parlor with zero traces of hip or trendy. BUT the ice cream is available in lots of varieties from classic flavors to more modern options -- as well as a cup, cone, sundae, milkshake, etc. And the service was patient and friendly with me as a first time visitor. I'd also note that on a nice day, they have picnic tables outside to eat your ice cream.

Yelp
This is closer to 3.5 star but first and foremost, great home made cones with very reasonable pricing. Please note they give MASSIVE portions so order the smallest they have, you will be more than sated! Try the flavors - some of them (like the choc) was underwhelming. I had the hot fudge sundae that was reasonable priced (~$5) but was way too much for 1 person. My wife had the butter pecan which was good coupled with the great-and-not-overpriced waffle cones! Would return to try other flavors but for me, wouldn't go out of my way here. I personally feel Pacugio's would be a better option (but more $)

Yelp
I'm glad Henry's is standing up to Chase bank. They apparently cost his company thousands of dollars with no warning, affecting his payroll and several other Chase accounts, causing some of his business checks to bounce. I hope he prevails. His servings of ice cream are very generous. https://www.westernjournal.com/red-states-engage-assault-woke-banks-not-going-pay-destruction/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=conservative-brief-CT&utm_campaign=dailyam&utm_content=conservative-tribune&ats_es=4ce757e53a6276be8bcbece28c810d62

Yelp
So, went back to Henry's today. Things seem to back to normal. I'm overriding my bad review, but am hesitant to go back to 5 stars yet. I'll review again when I'm back in the area

Yelp
Tried Henry's Homemade Ice Cream for the first time tonight! Had a strong craving for something cold and sweet and behold, I see Henry's!! When I walked in I was immediately greeted by the staff. (Two super sweet and awesome young ladies!!) They asked what they could get me and I told them that this was my first time coming to Henry's, but was excited to give them a try. I asked for recommendations and they quickly shot a few they favorited. I ended trying the very recommended Peanut Butter Brownie with a waffle cone! And it was soooo good! I could almost say it spoke to my soul! I will definitely be making another visit and think this place would be a great stop for date or a few friends to grab something sweet! Thank you to the awesome young ladies for their help and recommendations! Not sure what Henry's does to keep their team happy, but I sure hope they keep doing whatever it is they're doing! It's rare to find service and ice cream this good!! Until next time!

Yelp
Just visited for the first time. Staff was friendly. Everyone loved their choice of flavor. Chase sign doesn't turn me away in the least bit. If anything I'm glad to see someone stand up for themselves and their business. Small businesses are a important part of our society. We will be back next time we're in the area.
