Where to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in San Diego - Eater San Diego

"This pub’s menu features a variety of options that will please everyone for dinner, but their particularly Irish-inspired Ol’ Hank’s Rueben is sure to be a pleaser. The sandwich includes Guinness-soaked corned beef." - Grace Cassidy

Google
Liverpool fans pub. Great for watching sports and the vibes are electric the chants that the liverpool fans were singing were awesome . Their business hours might vary depending on the games time They opened early on Sunday for example to get the fans in Worth to try

Google
Very chill pub with excellent food. The seasoned fries were fantastic, the Cobb salad was delicious and the fish tacos hit the spot with the large cod serving (the batter was not heavy at all). Outdoor seating is great and Allisa the server was pleasant and prompt. Definitely want to go back to try other items.

Google
Staff was very friendly and seating area is great. Pickle fries are innovative and delicious. Pizza was just ok. Crust tasted like a pita bread consistency and was very greasy but could be because of the pepperoni. Regardless I wouldn't go back for pizza but the fries are worth it.

Google
Good food and an excellent environment for sports watching. Several TVs all around the restaurant; no matter where you sit you can watch. I got Irish soup. The bread was top-notch and the soup was good, but the potatoes were too hard/under cooked. To sum up, the food is good but the vibes/sports make it worth visiting.

Google
Had a few beers here and enjoyed the man playing music! The vibe is definitely chill, and we would for sure come back and check this place out next time we're here in San Diego!!

Google
Great service! The mac n cheese was delicious, hands down one of the best ones I’ve had. It had a nice kick of spice. Only reason it lost a star was because I didn’t like the baked potato. Don’t recommend it.

Google
We stopped in for happy hour and got a couple beers and an order of garlic parm fries. They were really good and the man who brought them out also brought a few of their sauces out for us to try. The service was okay. The bar was pretty much empty besides a few people and we had to ask for refills a few times after waiting a little bit. Overall it was a good experience and it looked like the other drinks and food they had to offer were pretty good too!

Google
Made reservations to bring in the New Year at Henry's and they did not disappoint!! Had a great time!! The filet mignon was cooked to perfect, dessert was delicious and we even had a champagne toast to bring in the New Year!! It was a great place to celebrate!!

Yelp
So excited to find this little gem. The following are what I look for in a bar: 1) their tap water. Is it filtered or is it toilet water? This place is definitely filtered. 2) multi-media and Audio. This place plays great music while multiple screens broadcast the latest sporting events. Especially UFC there's also live music on weekends with talented entertainers. 3) personal service. The staff here are constantly checking in on your experience. 4) food quality: the Wagyu burger is pretty amazing , but the wings are heavenly. 5) Happy Hour deals. On point with $5 dollar draft brews and drinks in general. This place is becoming my go -to in the Gaslamp. Great work Y'all

Yelp
Glad to see this rassist magat pub is close now. Gives me great joy to see the community joining against hate.

Yelp
Gaslamp was so pumpin' the Sunday before NYE, they're may have been more tourists than transients and rose peddlers! Henry's was oddly quiet for being so inviting. Loved that this pub was dark, with most of the light coming from the TVs. Good menu selections. The wagyu smashburger was not cheap, but it was fresh, juicy, and delicious. The Parmesan fries were incredible, generously covered with so much potent toasted garlic you'll need to carry around Snuggle fabric softener sheets too blow your garlic burps into. Refillable Diet Pepsi was crisp. Vodka cranberry wasn't the strongest, but it was better than the other two bars I visited that night, plus it was only $5 (happy hour) despite being dark out. Server was friendly, though he disappeared for a moment. Maybe it was the burps.

Yelp
I will make this short. I came here during Comic Con week. This place is usually on point. Today was somewhat of a miss. I am going to assume due to staffing. The hostess and servers are very polite. They accommodate you when asked. This is from seating location to food. It is a noise place, so no romantic thoughts. The wagyu burger is great. Savory taste in the seasoned meat. The Carmel onions add to the sweetness. I added the pickles to cut salt and sweet. The flat bread meat lovers, was decent. Cooked well, with a nice taste to the sauce. It needed more meat, in order to call it a meat lovers. I always recommend to order your chicken wings without sauce. This is why, our wings were burnt. Now we did get a replacement right away. The replacement wings were very tasty. I will come again, and give an update very soon. -Day 2 return update. Still a comic con weekend. Pepperoni pizza was pretty good. My son loved it. My wings were cooked very well. I added blue cheese. I highly recommend it. It was not as busy today. Service was great. Oh, so that you know. When you check in with Yelp, you will get a 10% coupon. That is not a factor anymore. So don't ask for the discount. Unfortunately, it has not been removed. Don't be a Karen / Ken about it. lol.

Yelp
Five of us on an early Saturday afternoon were looking for drinks and lunch downtown. We found no line at Henry's and decided it was our spot. The young woman at the host stand told us to sit anywhere we liked. We chose a tall four-top and grabbed a fifth stool to accommodate us. We were soon greeted by a really sweet and super cute Lacy. She took our drinks orders. A few minutes later Lacy was back at the table, drinks in hand and we placed our orders. Short Rib Bourguignon, Southwest Rice Bowl, Wagyu Smashburger, two orders of Fish Tacos (one with rice and pinto beans) and a basket of fries. *Short Rib Bourguignon: This was my choice and it was one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. Short ribs with creamy cheddar mashed potatoes and baby carrots. The short rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender. It was full of flavor. So tender and juicy. The mashed potatoes were creamy deliciousness and the carrots! Those carrots! I'm not certain how they were prepared, but I could've eaten just a bowl of those. It was a very large bowl with equal parts short rib meat and potatoes with carrots on top. My table mates all agreed, I won with my food choice! *Southwest Rice Bowl: A large bowl filled with basmati rice, black beans, pico, sauteed veggies, and avocado. Becky chose chicken as her protein ($6 up charge, shrimp or steak were the other choices). Becky loved it. Fluffy and flavorful, perfectly cooked chicken. She loved the beans with the pico and avo. Another large portion. *Wagyu smashburger: Our friend liked the burger, it was cooked to the right temp for her. She liked the caramelized onions and the Chicago pickles. She was not a fan of the sambal aioli. It was too spicy for her. She is, however, a self-proclaimed "Spice Wimp". Zero is her spice level. *Fish Tacos: Two large filets in flour tortillas per serving. According to the two who ordered them said they were "Okay and "Pretty good". Both agreed that the fish was under seasoned and a bit bland. We all thought that leafy lettuce rather than cabbage was an odd topping. The rice and black beans were a hit. *Fries: We all agreed. Excellent. Two relatively minor issues. One meal worth writing home about. One excellent meal. Superb service from Lacy. That equals five stars to me! (Henry's Pub does charge that annoying "surcharge". Theirs is 3%. Stop with the surcharge!)

Yelp
Came with a small group after Padres opening day so a big crowd was to be expected and actually made it super fun inside! It's a dark and sticky dive bar/pub for sure which I always love. But the service was strange - literally one step into the door and the server was asking us what we wanted to drink while half the group was still getting IDs checked outside. She followed us to the table and asked again the second we sat down. Then she said she could only put us all on one tab. They were out of almost every drink we ordered. Then she spilled all over our table when delivering drinks, like every single one she put down lost 1/4 of the drink on the table. We laughed it off but left after one round. We would have stayed for food and more rounds of service was more normal haha

Yelp
Did not appreciate the tall American girl at the Bar. We had been waiting to get a drink and she saw her friend, I mentioned " We were here first " and she said " I have everyone here". She then proceeded to take his order and she didn't even charge him! He gave her a $20 she said thank you babe and he walked away. I mean it's if your friends are there but your paying customers should come first.

Yelp
E X P E R I E N C E We came as a group of 2 on a Sunday night. Around 9 PM there was a hurricane warning, so there were not that many people at gas lamp area. But it was still so much fun because of the employees energy. loved that there were a ton of tvs on the perimeter of the establishment. lyrics were available for you to sing alonf S E R V I C E We were immediately greeted by security Upon entering. We found our own spot to sit and proceed to enjoy the music. There were probably 20 people in the bar. This seemed about on par with the other open bars that we had walk past K A R A O K E. N I G H TS Great energy. Just had to karaoke stage and fill out the form to give to the karaoke lady. music choice is all up to you. slow or fast. sad or happy. country to rap to classic. Sundays, and Tuesdays are both karaoke nights. they picked out great songs for the interim F O O D vodka sprite 12: Drink were decently strong. They do serve bar food.

Yelp
We came during Comic Con weekend, and it was packed. This place had a Super Mario theme in celebration of Comic Con. We were informed that there was a long wait for a table, so we opted to stand. We were reminded by security that if we opted to stand, then, we cannot sit at a table. We just grabbed a quick beer and chose to stand outside of the pub where there was a long ledge table but no seats. A few minutes after we chose our standing location, we were immediately informed that we had to move to accommodate another party, but they would give us a few minutes. Please note that you'll get better service if you choose a table.
google avatar

Miles S.

Yelp
Smoked wings and happy hour took the cake here although they showcase a menu worth stopping by for more next time. Weekends they move the tables and have a DJ. Stop by for a quick drink and stay eatin!

Yelp
Truly this place is underrated! I've had a great time here at night and have had really good food multiple times during the day. If you're looking for a chill spot, definitely consider Henry's!

Yelp
First off, I have no idea why I don't go to Henry's more often. I seem to only find my way there on St. Patrick's Day and for the occasional quick drink in between other places when downtown. This needs to be my destination next time, not the gap filler. I was last at Henry's on a Sunday morning meeting some friends and we were in luck. Why you ask? Well, we had Jess as our bartender and she sure knows how to pour a good drink, pay attention to what you need/want, and does it all with a smile. An impressive feat after tending to the early morning soccer crowd that had already had their fun and left the bar mostly empty for us. You'd never know that she'd been working since before the sun graced this beautiful city - still chipper with a smile on her face. The prices are great for downtown and while I have yet to dive into the food menu I'll make a point of doing so next time I'm rolling around downtown. Thanks Henry, whoever you are, you've build a fine little watering hole.

Yelp
I would never return here. The owner and DJ are extending rude. The place is dirty and during karaoke the DH was trying to get money out of people: nasty place

Yelp
This place was amazing. We came here for my wife's birthday on 6/19/2024. From the moment we got there and was carded by the security. I was impressed to be greeted by a female security. I think there should be more places that do that. As a former bouncer, it would have saved a lot of headaches, Kudos to this place. Anyways, Henrys had a good vibe with live music. The bartender, Jordan attended to not only us but the whole place by herself and had our drinks in front of us in no time and the drinks were amazing. Thank you Jordan for making our experience here a good one. We will definitely revisit this place before we leave town or next time we are in San Diego.

Yelp
Was walking around downtown and decided to come here for lunch. There is poor air circulation so it was pretty hot while dining on a 90 degree San Diego day. The smell of downtown seeps inside the restaurant, and I just felt the stickiness of the table, floor and seats. There was a pretty good selection of drinks offered and the meals were surprisingly huge in size. I love fried pickles and these were super yummy here! Additionally they were heavy handed with the fries that came as a side for the burger and chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were HUGE but tasted mainly of just pepper. Definitely need some type of sauce with it to eat. Additionally, avocado on a burger can never disappoint. I probably would not come again for my own liking, but if someone was to say they wanted to dine here I wouldn't be opposed.

Jade F.

Yelp
The food and drinks were great, and our waitress was incredibly friendly. However, I've never encountered someone as rude and aggressive as Bree. I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume she was just having a rough day, but based on past reviews, it seems this may be a recurring issue for her.

Yelp
I had the Short Rib Bourguignon and A cocktail called Chase the dragon Customer service was amazing!!! Food &drinks were so delicious and great!!! Definitely recommend great atmosphere
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
we stumbled along this restaurant when walking through gaslamp and food was surprisingly very good! we had a great time, friendly service from Tony who helped recommend us drinks as well. the atmosphere was quite a peaceful bar inside, half full at the time we went, while outside was lively. I really enjoyed their special dish of the day: the Chicken Parmesan pasta which was actually quite citrusy. a surprising and yummy flavor that I didn't expect. for some reason, their garlic bread is really good, wish I could have more haha. the bone in wings were good too, we chose the buffalo flavor and loved the sauce. We weren't expecting for the food to be that tasty bc we mainly came in for drinks so those dishes were quite good. A bit pricier for the portion size, but to be expected in downtown. Drinks were okay, I liked the tequila sprite, but was quite ordinary drinks. Parking in downtown is difficult! Would come back again if I had the chance, but there's also a lot of restaurants in the area :)
google avatar

Brandon J.

Yelp
I had the chicken wings and church friend had the shrimp. The chicken wings tasted great and everything. She said it her shrimp was really good to. Service was great and fast. She ask if we wanted an drink because it was happy hour and we both said no but the offer was kind. We stay outside the whole but from what we can tell the inside look really awesome. I would definitely come back here to eat again.

Yelp
A MUST TRY!!!! We came on a Thursday and saw two musicians playing. They were amazing!!! They played songs the crown requested and some of their own. They were great!! The drink were also pretty cheap. They had a special going for $5 shots of Jager and the shots were a good size. The waitress was friendly I can't recall her name but she had orange hair was very attentive. She would check in if we needed drinks and was quick. We really liked this place a lot and definitely recommend it!! You won't be disappointed:)

Yelp
Came on a Sunday, I guess it was karaoke night. Had a great time with the roommate. Security was ultra professional. The server was very friendly.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
I thought this place was pretty awesome. Not too crowded on a Thursday night, they had a good band, even though I usually despise country music, Iol. But what really made this place great was the food (awesome Reuben sandwich and baby back ribs) and the fast and friendly service of our server Jessica. Best service ever, girl deserves a raise!
google avatar

Addy W.

Yelp
A friend recommended we check this spot out. It was cute. Didn't expect them too be playing hip hop in this place, so that was a nice surprise. Drinks were decent, and no cover charge which is always a plus.
google avatar

Richard D.

Yelp
My friend was sitting at a chair and the security officer grabbed him from behind and threw him on the floor and said he had to leave. Totally unprovoked. I couldn't believe what I saw. Maybe he mistook him for someone else but still.
google avatar

Ankita C.

Yelp
What we ordered: Hand-cut seasoned fries w/ sambal aioli / add garlic & parmesan. What we thought: Initially we thought the portion was too big, but we ended up eating all of them because they were so good. Definitely add garlic and Parmesan and ask for extra sambal aioli! Best pub fries we've had in a while. What we rated it: 5/5

Glenn M.

Yelp
Outstanding cocktails, great vibe, and the service was even better. 10 out of 10 highly recommend!

Mia R.

Yelp
I went here yesterday night and right at the front the girl bouncer grabbed my arm for no reason when I was following her directions. Don't go here.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Henry's pub is that restaurant/bar that has an ambiance you go to where everybody knows your name one night and another night your having fun meeting new people at the bar. When you go for the food, you have to try the chicken sandwich and their GARLIC PARMESAN FRIES. The service is amazing, very attentive and courteous. One of the true mainstays in gas lamp and after you visit, You will see why.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Chicken Sandwich and fries was what I was looking for, and that is what I got. Lots of TV's around so this is a good spot to come watch a game and grab some bar food. Service was great. The fries had an extra crunch to them that was super solid.
google avatar

Derek C.

Yelp
Why go to lamplighter with kj's with bad attitudes who only let their friends sing when you can go to this much nicer bar with a great food menu and a kick ass friendly kj?
google avatar

Mimi L.

Yelp
The last stop of our bar hopping in Gaslamp, most bars were kinda quiet but this one was lively and packed up really fast. I think it was Karaoke night so a lot of ppl came in to sing. Hubby sang one song but it took long time to be our turn again so we didn't put in more songs. We had quite a few drinks at the bar, the tequila cocktail was strong but very sweet with sticky syrup on the glass which was annoying. I didn't finish that drink so I ordered Modelo michelada and two Mezcal shots, hubby had a few Grey Goose martinis. Drinks were reasonable priced and bartenders were friendly and fast. We'd come here for karaoke night again, this is not a fancy place but it's low key and relaxing. It's for one of those nights that you just want to drink and sing your heart out I suppose!
google avatar

Shaira A.

Yelp
I only recommend the Wagyu Burger, Wings, and their Ribs. DO NOT GET THE OVEN BAKED POTATOES! That was super dry & lacked of flavor. We didn't wait long to be seated, but waited super long for our food. Our server was nice, although our water didn't get refilled. It almost like they wanted us to choke from their potatoes lol 5/10 wouldn't come here again.
google avatar

Mike P.

Yelp
My wife and I were walking by and opted to stop in and have a bit to eat, a beer and check out some baseball while we relaxed. This was in the mid to late afternoon during the week and there were very few people in there at the time. We opted for the Chicken Tender Special with seasoned fries and Sambi Aioli which was absolutely delicious. The Sambi Aioli really made the meal though. We ordered a Blood Orange Kombucha to try something new. Not the best beer, but it was refreshing at the time. The beer selection for Henry's Pub was really very poor in terms of craft beer as most everything they had was domestic. There were several TV's to watch baseball on and there was a nice pub atmosphere that was open to the street. The service was average at best and the waitress was not very familiar with the menu nor did she pay that much attention to us overall. In all, my visit was ok. The food was good and would go back for that, but was very disappointed in the beer selection which would really keep me from going back. I think with so many other options available in the Gas Lamp District, I would most likely opt to try somewhere I had not been yet as other places looked just as appealing

Yelp
*DRINKS REVIEW ONLY* Not bad but not great. We came here to get some drinks for my bach when our first location turned out to be Covid central. Luckily, this place at tables outside (however, people start lingering on the sidewalk later on in the night so they are in pretty close proximity to you). Inside was another Covid fest so we definitely avoided going in there, unless we needed to use the bathroom. Just thankful we could find a place with seats outdoors and wasn't TOO crowded for a Friday night.

Elena L.

Yelp
Cool place. We stopped at Henry's before a Padres' game and were glad we did. The service was great, quick, and the food was delicious. My husband had bbq ribs, and my friend and I had fish and chips. Yummy! Drinks were good. Overall, I'd like to go back there again. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Sarjio C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere for a Sunday to watch a game. Good drinks, plenty of beer on tap. Good food in the heart of downtown. Plus one of their servers looks like Michael McDonald of Mad TV fame. Great place to go!

Et F.

Yelp
Let me start off with the spicy chicken sandwich oh so yummy it has a spicy honey. I think the best chicken sandwich. Hubby had fish and chips were yummy and 2 pieces a-lot of fries spiced just right. Also have great wings and omg Cheese Curds drizzled with honey and before you ask... yes the cheese is from wisconsin
google avatar

Mary B.

Yelp
Great place to hang out and watch the game. Good food and drinks. Nice outdoor seating for people watching.

Yelp
Ok It's the NFL off-season, so it was safe for us to enjoy St Patrick's day here. :) We opted to wait in line here, and the wait wasn't bad at all for a table. Our first employee we encountered was the security guard, who was checking ID's and assisting the Hostess. He was awesome and a very nice guy. The Hostess was very busy but handled the traffic and table assignments with ease. We only waited about 10 mins and were quickly seated. To our surprise we ended getting one of the best tables in the house. Our server was Monique, and again although it was extremely busy, she did not rush us at all, and was very nice! For Drinks, my wife got the Green Beer and I ordered a margarita. My wife ordered the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich and I ordered "The Hooligan" which was a hamburger with corned beef. The wait wasn't long at all for our food. The hamburger was cooked exactly how I wanted it. The corned beef was amazing and they piled it on. The fries- OMG they were exactly how fries are supposed to be crunchy! No sogginess here. The old Cousin Eddie line "Don't get Cheap on me" doesn't apply here. They take care of you in every aspect. The portion sizes were big and the margs were strong and very good. Hats off to the bartenders, as they must of been super busy back there. The entertainment was superb, this band was AMAZING! The place went nuts when they sang Shipping up to Boston! They made this one of the most enjoyable St Patrick's day since I've been in San Diego. Everyone in this place was having a great time and enjoying themselves. Thanks Henry for the hospitably and great food. We will be back!
google avatar

Henry T.

Yelp
I recently visited this bar for the first time and the environment was great. They had live music going on with a really good singer and drinks were pretty cheap . The security guard "Eddie" was super helpful
google avatar

ERIKA L.

Yelp
Finally used my $100 card I won through Instagram. Atmosphere was nice, we sat outside. Waitress was sweet and attentive. Fish and chips were great and a very good portion, cheese curds were ok and the ribs were falling off the bone yummy.
google avatar

George B.

Yelp
So my rating might be a tad influenced by the a bottle of vodka we won at trivia way back when. The mixed drinks were very good though! I had a few concoctions featuring gin, St. Germaine, and....other ingredients I can't quite remember (I had a few!) Trivia was followed by karaoke which drew a very eclectic crowd mix. The pub actually filled up late on the weekend, so get in early like we did. My only complaint is that our service was bad. Our waitress forgot things often, which really gummed up the works. Still had a great time though!
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
Love this place awesome food and sick ass people! Try the burger and the fall off the bones ribs , kareoke night is a banger too. Shoutout the DJ with good music too
google avatar

Judith S.

Yelp
After going to Bates nut farm. My family and I decided to eat an early dinner to Henry's pub. We were not sure if they serve good food. They didn't disappoint us. The food were so good. We ate outside and it's good because we were the only ones who were eating outside. Most of the customers were eating inside. It was like we are VIP's ;) I had fish and chips, my husband and my youngest son had cheeseburgers. I also ordered baby back ribs. The presentation were amazing. We had the best day today.
google avatar

Jes W.

Yelp
We went to Henry's Pub last night and I had the Pub-Im-Possible! It's always nice finding a 100% vegan burger that I don't have to question on the menu. They were also playing rugby on the tvs which made my heart so happy to watch!
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
We didn't try the food, but the drinks were well made, and the bar tenders were friendly and helpful. The karaoke on Tuesday was a blast, and the gentleman running it was fun and super talented.
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
The generation Paloma, and chase the dragon were not good. The copperhead road is delicious. Lots of tvs for sports games. Our waiter was so nice, Santino- his customer service was what got this 4 star review

Alex R.

Yelp
Edgar at Henry's Pub Greeted And recommended great food Cheers Carnal and thank you all at Henry's pub great place to go
