Yelp
Five of us on an early Saturday afternoon were looking for drinks and lunch downtown. We found no line at Henry's and decided it was our spot.
The young woman at the host stand told us to sit anywhere we liked. We chose a tall four-top and grabbed a fifth stool to accommodate us.
We were soon greeted by a really sweet and super cute Lacy. She took our drinks orders. A few minutes later Lacy was back at the table, drinks in hand and we placed our orders.
Short Rib Bourguignon, Southwest Rice Bowl, Wagyu Smashburger, two orders of Fish Tacos (one with rice and pinto beans) and a basket of fries.
*Short Rib Bourguignon: This was my choice and it was one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. Short ribs with creamy cheddar mashed potatoes and baby carrots. The short rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender. It was full of flavor. So tender and juicy. The mashed potatoes were creamy deliciousness and the carrots! Those carrots! I'm not certain how they were prepared, but I could've eaten just a bowl of those. It was a very large bowl with equal parts short rib meat and potatoes with carrots on top.
My table mates all agreed, I won with my food choice!
*Southwest Rice Bowl: A large bowl filled with basmati rice, black beans, pico, sauteed veggies, and avocado. Becky chose chicken as her protein ($6 up charge, shrimp or steak were the other choices). Becky loved it. Fluffy and flavorful, perfectly cooked chicken. She loved the beans with the pico and avo. Another large portion.
*Wagyu smashburger: Our friend liked the burger, it was cooked to the right temp for her. She liked the caramelized onions and the Chicago pickles. She was not a fan of the sambal aioli. It was too spicy for her. She is, however, a self-proclaimed "Spice Wimp". Zero is her spice level.
*Fish Tacos: Two large filets in flour tortillas per serving. According to the two who ordered them said they were "Okay and "Pretty good". Both agreed that the fish was under seasoned and a bit bland. We all thought that leafy lettuce rather than cabbage was an odd topping. The rice and black beans were a hit.
*Fries: We all agreed. Excellent.
Two relatively minor issues. One meal worth writing home about. One excellent meal. Superb service from Lacy.
That equals five stars to me!
(Henry's Pub does charge that annoying "surcharge". Theirs is 3%. Stop with the surcharge!)
