"Henry’s may have made a name for itself on sweet potato pies, but both locations offer savory soul food classics available for pickup and dine-in, including fried chicken. The chicken is sold by the half or as wings (there’s chicken and waffles as well). Order online for the Maryland location here and the U Street location here." - Tierney Plumb, Eater Staff

Fried chicken was delicious as well as the mac and cheese, however the fried okra was a bit squishy. Wasn't exactly fried and tasted as though it sat for a while after it was fried. I do recommend the lemonade though, delicious. The atmosphere was cozy. Business wasn't as busy and service was quick so you could sit down and enjoy your meal without much interruption.

If they tell you they don’t have something after you order believe them. Get a refund immediately, I was told by the cashier. After I ordered they didn’t have what I wanted. I asked for my money back and then all of a sudden the supposedly had it. This what I received and it was three orders of the same thing. The meatloaf was awful. The gravy on mash potatoes and meatloaf was totally different. Smh cause I had the food I ordered before and it was pretty decent. As I was getting my order I heard them tell another customer the same thing. I wonder how was their food.

Walk in on a Sunday and we were begrudgingly greeted by a young lady at the cash register. This lack of care and professionalism, we joked about because of this the good was gonna be good! Boy were we wrong! Baked turkey wings with gravy and stuffing- the skin on the wings was soggy like it had been reheated from yesterday and the meat dry. It came with I believe 2 or 3 pieces and I was only able to eat the meat from one. The amount of gravy was sad, especially because the skin was so loose, I thought the meat would be moist, it was not, and had a lot of feathers still on it. There was no gravy in the bottom of the container, so I had to scrape it from the wings to put it on the stuffing. The candied yams were interesting, good but had too much honey, needs a different sweetener, also kinda tasted like they came out the can. The greens were bitter and slightly under done. The stuffing, then the candied yams were the best things I ate. The sweet tea was very good, but it needs more tea bags. Fried fish dinner- fish was fried nicely and could have been seasoned a little better. The cabbage was under seasoned but tasted better than the greens. The Mac and cheese 😮‍💨...Tasted like WATER! I've had better boxed Mac and cheese! We couldn't even finish our sides because they were so bad, except the stuffing I finished that. We also got a slice of pie to try and it was tasty. The crust was perfectly baked, uniform color all around with no dark spots, burnt or dry edges. Even the back staff was unprofessional, they kept coming out to laugh and stare at customers.

Henry’s Soul Cafe is a cozy spot that offers a taste of southern comfort food in a welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the turkey wings, collard greens, mashed potatoes, and stuffing and gravy. The turkey wings at Henry's Soul Cafe were enjoyable, although they could have been a bit juicier for my liking. However, the star of the meal was the delicious stuffing/dressing, which had a rich, savory flavor that truly hit the spot. The collard greens, however, were a bit lacking in seasoning, which was a small disappointment. To end off my meal I indulged in the famous sweet potato pie, which definitely lived up to its reputation. The pie was a delightful finish to the meal, with its sweet, spiced filling and flaky crust. While the food on this visit could have been a bit better, I appreciate the overall experience at Henry's Soul Cafe and I will certainly visit again. The friendly service even when it was busy with phone orders and walk-ins make it a place worth returning to, despite some minor shortcomings with the dishes. One thing to note is that the parking situation at Henry's Soul Cafe can be a bit tight, and the restaurant tends to get congested, especially during the later part of the week. It's something to keep in mind when planning a visit, as it might require a bit of patience to find a spot during peak hours. In conclusion, Henry's Soul Cafe offers a comforting and inviting dining experience with its southern-style cuisine, and despite some room for improvement with certain dishes, I look forward to returning for another taste of their soulful comfort food.

Google
This place was great!! I’ve lived in the area for eight years now and have never heard of it. Man, have I been missing out. This place has some of the best chitterlings I have ever had. Ribs and chicken were amazing too. And don’t get me started on the sides. We had the mac and cheese, potato salad, and candied yams. Spectacular! The only downside is if you’re trying to eat in, there isn’t much seating only 6-7 tables. The service was quick and friendly as well.

I’ll start this review by saying that eating healthy, quality food is important to me, so folks who normally eat here may like it just fine - I did not. The salmon cakes, while perfectly fried, were very mushy and moist on the inside because they’re made of canned salmon that have in NO WAY been properly drained. Couldn’t even finish one because of the gross, mushy texture inside tasing just like the juice in the can. Cabbage was also mushy due to being overcooked, and the sweet potatoes tasted of WAY too much sugar. Got an order of meatloaf covered in gravy, which was annoying because we didnt know there was gravy and we weren’t asked if we wanted any - we hate gravy on meatloaf. Mac & cheese was disappointing as well. On the positive side, the beef ribs, fried catfish, and baked beans were good. Service is fast but barely friendly, ordered 4 meals for a family and was out in 10 minutes without so much as a hello or thank you from the cashier, who was simultaneously arguing with the guys in the back & texting while taking our order. Won’t be returning here again though due to the quality of some of the food & service.

Google
The food was always great when I came here 2006-2009 but the service was iffy, that's why I was sketched about ordering food for 7 people online the night before for 12 pm pick up. I was pleasantly surprised the food was ready with a smile at 12:08 p.m. when I arrived. The food was even better than I remembered. I fed 7 big hungry men including myself for $100 and I was stuffed! It impressed both my "nobody makes mac and cheese like my mama" and the "I like fresh food not from a can with little preservatives" types. I live on the other side of the county now but I will be coming back for good inexpensive food made by MY people.

Google
I ordered Catfish Dinner. The fish was seasoned really good the yams was on point you can taste the cinnamon. The green was tasteless someone didn't season the greens at all. For dessert I picked the sweet potato pie. Ooh yeah the pie was delicious. Yes I recommend you Check out Henry's Soul Cafe. You would be disappointed... not to forget the cornbread really moist..

Yelp
Every time I'm in town I try to get to Henry's. This time my mom wanted a meal. We both got fried fish sandwiches. I ordered my food online to avoid the wait. Service was excellent.

Yelp
This place has seen its glory days. This is the 2nd location to the one on U Street in DC. For decades my family and I appreciated the location on U Street for classic comfort food such as baked chicken, fried fish and sides such as sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, potato salad and stuffing. The Oxon Hill location was promising at one point but I don't know where things went wrong. Menu items suddenly became either too salty in taste, soaked in gravy, proteins fried exceptionally hard and deprived of tender-juiciness and/or bland sides. The freshness of the food is perhaps my biggest turnoff. Considering the quality, consistency, constant sell-outs and customer service the price is not commensurate. Back in 2021 when the owner pushed their "Drummer Boy" campaign, which was the owner given customers a free fried chicken leg wrapped in a slice of loaf white bread, I experienced the restaurant play stalling games in order to keep from having to hand out free chicken. I honestly wasn't so concerned about getting a free chicken leg as much as I wanted to take part in a "feed the community" campaign that I thought was meritorious on behalf of the owner. Generally lukewarm customer service, the aforementioned customer service experience and the obvious decline in food quality is just too much for me to overlook. The one shining star that I will still consider is their sweet potato pie although it too is an inconsistent recipe. For this to be such an iconic community restaurant at one point their inconsistency and decline unfortunately keeps me from recommending this business.

Yelp
Finally had the smothered pork chops and a side of peach cobbler. Called in my dinner order they had everything correct. Good vibes good food.

Stacy F.

Yelp
Placed an order for my father's repast , retrieved the paperwork which was done electronically. I was informed that because the name was typed in the line they and you know when typing it can break the line, well they decided not to take the order. My father's repast was in Veterans Day, I inquired why I wasn't informed of this matter the day before placing the order. Mind you I spoke with one of the workers whom I asked about the paperwork and he didn't know! So with short notice and not caring , no empathy I chose to stay away from this place ! The customer service for a catered order was horrible and they didn't give a damn at all!!

Danielle G.

Yelp
I enjoyed my visit to Henry's. I was pleased to see that they offered a dine in option. The menu was bountiful and offered everything from chicken wings to chitterlings. I had chicken wings, turkey wings, and catfish. I was tempted to get the ribs and pork chop, but my family had no more room to enjoy the delicious options we selected. The sides and desserts did not disappoint( Mac and cheese was not my cup of tea but my daughter enjoyed. The greens had quite a few stems and could have been picked better, but overall had good flavor. These two criticisms were not enough to keep me away. They even have the option to take a sweet potato pie kit home and bake two pies in the comfort of your own home. I am not in the area often, but when I am nearby again, I will list definitely stop by.

Gloria H.

Yelp
It always reminds me of Grandma's cooking from the south . The gravy on the liver is amazing!!!!!!!!

Dee D.

Yelp
stop by this establishment got me a chitin dinner since I was ready to go home. I opened the bag check to see if my food was correct. It wasn't went back to the counter so they corrected the matter so I got home proceeded to heat up my food as I am mixing up my chitlins. and Walla, a piece of plastic was in my food. I would never ever promote this establishment again that's just nasty.

Alan W.

Yelp
The spot in Oxon Hill is starting to be hit or miss, wish I knew what day they change the grease.Got the fried pork chops and looked like it was cooked in old ass grease, the cabbage was mushy and potato salad had way to much mustard. Best thing was the sweet potato pie and the sweet tea.

Terrell O.

Yelp
Received my order of fried chicken wings in which I did not open until I had gotten home only to open the container and find that all four wings were full of feathers!!! Which makes me wonder if the wings were cleaned?

Melinda M.

Yelp
I went there on 12/11/23. Excited because I knew someone from there was on a TV cooking show. Now I know why He was the first to be eliminated. Initially I thought they were just hating on the DMV, but now I see. The meal I was served should of gone to someone who was very rude, mean or complaining constantly. I was polite and very happy to be there and was so disappointed in everything. Bar B Que short ribs, potato salad and collard greens (all terrible). The only good thing was a corn bread muffin. Take this from someone who knows good food....this is not the place to go.

Martina J.

Yelp
First of all I waited 30 minutes to get my order and when I got it home it was the blandest boring food I've ever had from a soul food restaurant Liver was overcooked and too salty Cabbage had no taste Mac n cheese was awful I slick want my money back I will not return

Kris E.

Yelp
Good food great service very clean hidden gem I wish I could go here everyday shout out dc

Anthony W.

Yelp
This place has lost the soul. The food is overcooked and tasteless. Beef ribs are just beef bones in a tasteless sauce. Mac and cheese is a no, greens a no. The food reminds me of food from the aunt that is known for being a bad cook but thinks she can throw down.

Pamela W.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant as a second chance. Like the first time the food was nothing but a high blood pressure festival. The collard greens are obviously from a can, no soul food flavor. There is a southern saying "He/she put their foot in this food". There are no signs of toe jam, Only salt and blah blah blah. NEVER again!! Save your money and cook your own food!!!!!!!!!!!

Raymond T.

Yelp
The cuisine at Henry's Soulfood café evokes cherished memories of my grandmother's culinary creations. During my youth, I relished every dish she prepared, consumed generous portions without worry about weight gain. She truly mastered the art of cooking. As a family of six, comprising of four brothers, one sister, and myself, we eagerly anticipated Christmas and Thanksgiving, knowing that our destination was Grandma's house, where delicious meals awaited us. Today, every visit to Henry's Soulfood café brings me back to those cherished moments of dining at Grandma's table.

Delma T.

Yelp
The sweet potato pie was delicious and I appreciated that I was able to walk up to order and pay for it.

Patricia H.

Yelp
The best place to get sweet potatoes pies. The pond cake is also good. I love the bake chicken, cabbage and Mac and cheese. Very good soul food.

Nikia C.

Yelp
I ordered catering for a repast from Henry's. The staff was very professional and helpful, and the food was great! No complaints from me. I only wish I had ordered more cornbread because it was really good!

Jalesa J.

Yelp
Hey guys! I placed an online order of turkey wings and gravy, stuffing, and cabbage for lunch. After I picked up my order, I realized that my container was HEAVY. You know when you have a heavy container, they packed that food in there and you're about to been in a food coma. There were two large turkey wings and two scoops of stuffing smothered in gravy with a serving of cabbage. It was all so delicious that I was almost in a food coma at work, so I had to close and save some for later. When I ate the rest of it later while at home...that is when I entered the food coma and it was wonderful. The only thing that I was not the biggest fan of was the cornbread stuffing. It was good, but a little too cake-like for me. Overall, the food was great.

Nikki P.

Yelp
What a disgusting little restaurant! I ordered a catfish sandwich on wheat bread, a few sides, and pound cake for dessert. I received whiting with potato bread, sides, and no dessert. My order was placed through a delivery app so there wasn't anything I could do in terms of correcting the order. The fish was unbearably salty and tasted like it had been cooked earlier in the day and then reheated for my order. The greens were overcooked and mushy (why?!). The sweet potatoes were bland and bitter (how?!). I threw it all away and had cereal for dinner. Don't order from this place. It's a total waste of money.

Robert K.

Yelp
First thing's first, the employees in here are very friendly and treat you as if you were family. Henrys soul cafe has a unique menu which from my experience tastes amazing. The food is just very nice and made from scratch, which in my opinion is a very great characteristic for a soul food place. Many other competitors have everything pre-made, but I like how Henry's is fresh, and made from scratch which truly does make this place unique. Ambiance is well, I enjoy the good times I've had here. But overall, I give this place a 5 star review for always treating me well, feeding me well, and being able to give me a great experience. Real nice food spot in Oxon Hill.

Jefferson R.

Yelp
Disgusting the ribs were nasty and felt like I was biting into a leather shoe and the wings were literally raw threw both plates away only good thing was the Mac n cheese never again

V. S.

Yelp
This is my opinion, food was nasty and they gave me the wrong order. I couldn't eat it at all. I didn't check food before I left, my fault. Please check food, was too far to come back for me. The ribs were not good at all, but what I did enjoy was the sweet potato pie was excellent. I would buy pie again, not sure about other food. Place is unorganized and that is why food is given to wrong customers.

Pat M.

Yelp
Just got 3 dinners from this establishment and it was awful! The chicken, fish and pork chops tasted like it was cooked in old grease. The cabbage tasted like they out a pound of sugar in it (cabbage has a natural sweet taste, no need to add sugar. Mac & cheese was horrible! They must've gotten a new cook! Will not be going here anymore.

Lulu F.

Yelp
I had the liver & onions meal and Im very disappointed with this meal. I kept trying to give it a try but it just wasn't working. The rice was undercooked, the noodles were over cooked in the Mac and cheese. Everything was bland. My brother order the smother pork chop meal and they also had the same complaints. A complete waste of money. We actually threw our food out and just ordered from somewhere else. I hope they can turn things around, I used to love this place but now I can't say the same.

Rebia B.

Yelp
We passed by Henry's by accident and saw they served sweet potato pie. The sweet potato pie and banana pudding were amazing! I'm still dreaming of the banana pudding. I will be back for ya

Sandi D.

Yelp
I have been a fan of Henry's for many years ~ beginning with the original location on U" Street, NW. I began frequenting the Ixon Hill location after it opened. However, I've noticed that the food isn't as good as it used to be. I was there on Sunday ~ 05/07/2023 after Church, and ordered meat loaf {1st time}; rice and gravy; cabbage; cornbread; and candied yams. It was a very large, oval shaped portion served with gravy. Unfortunately, it wasn't seasoned, and cooked much too long. Only ate a few bites. Soul food should be well seasoned. I've noticed this on several occasions, which means I'll visit less frequently.

Tee W.

Yelp
Ordered a rib dinner with yams and Mac n cheese and a turkey wing dinner with Mac and cheese and greens The pork ribs were tuff like leather..Mac and cheese and greens and turkey wings were cold and nasty. The sweet potatoe pies weren't good either We had to throw it all away what a waist of 39.11 I would never refer or return to this place.. The customer service was excellent

Maya D.

Yelp
I've been thinking about visiting this place for some time now, and I finally made it the other day. The customer service was outstanding! Everyone in there was so nice, and the employee who took my order did a great job selling and upselling their food! I got fried whiting and fried catfish with potato salad and string beans. Fish: catfish was really good! Great seasoning and breading, although if you don't like thick breading don't get it. The whiting was mushy.... I'm not sure why and I don't want to think about it. The string beans were really good! Well seasoned and your typical cookout string beans!! The potato salad was flavorful but the potatoes were still a little hard so I couldn't finish it.....I would order it again based on taste to give it another chance. With all that being said, it would've gotten 5 stars if the potato salad and whiting were how they should be.. But the customer service, other food, oh yea and cornbread were good! I would definitely go there again and see what gems I could find to put in my monthly meal rotation.

Loretta D.

Yelp
The Sweet potato Pies Are to Die for best. I ever tasted I thought no one could top my grandma but Henry's is the best in this area.

Brittany T.

Yelp
I wasn't going to write this review, I tried to take the issue up with ownership or management Reggie and don I think. But the nonchalant attitude is what has me pissed. FIRST TIME ATTENDING January.27.2021 ordered online picked up food needless to say yuck. The CABBAGE WAS THE BEST THING FOR $40 on two meals I contacted them told that the catfish must be frozen because it's still pink and wet. So wet the batter was falling off fish , rice over cooked that the starch particles are sticking to the plastic spoon provided. Was told come Sat 30 by Reggie and my whole order would be remade. worked that day so I called to inform that I couldn't make it after the snowy weekend I ended up making it there 2/4 called my order in seeing it was a REMAKE. The Young lady at the register and I'm being very lenient saying lady. Rude that answered phone RUDE AN POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE (I informed Reggie bout that too )on Jan 27,2021GET THERE GET FOOD asked about my pie since it was on the first order. She says sorry I can't give you that. (Should've said that on phone. I asked to purchase it pull money out. We don't accept cash. Needless to say irritated I GO HOME OPEN REMEMBER ITS 2 in the afternoon The liver Bacteria ridden (bloody and green), no cabbage double old Mac and cheese two different-pans clearly ,2nd one (liver raw nasty old rice and cabbage. I also asked for 1 cornbread one roll needless to say they gave two cornbreads the bottom hollowed out dry and stuck to pan. (That's how muffins hollo out no nonstick oil. Talked to don he didn't care either. Dry nonchalant I informed him I wanted GM OR HIGHER MANAGEMENT TO CALL ME. Almost a week later no call or nothing. So I'm writing. ITS BAD ENOUGH-WORRYing ABOUT PANDEMIC BUT FOOD TOO. This is SAD BUSINESS AND COOKS AND MANAGEMENT YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Yelp
Look, cutting to the chase, this spot gives you a lot of food!! Period, Point, Blank!! @henryssoulcafe located at 5431 MD-210 Oxon Hill Maryland you'll find this establishment separated from the other stores in the area, with ample parking, a couple of outside seats, and even an electric vehicle charging station. Specializing in pies this eatery was founded in 1968 and has been a staple in the community since. They also have a location at 1704 U St., N.W. that I have yet to venture out to. So their menu includes items like fresh fish (salmon, whiting, trout), fried chicken, baked chicken, wings, beef liver, short ribs, pigs feet, pork chops, and chitterlings. They also have a plethora of sides like fried okra, string beans, and potato salad. I opted to get their Beef BBQ ribs platter (pictured with Mac n cheese, baked beans, and cornbread $13.59). The meat fell off the bone with this platter ()!! The ribs were tender and succulent. The beans were on point, the mac was just ok. I also got their Smothered baked Turkey wings platter ( pictured with corn, collard greens, Henry's famous stuffing, and cornbread $10.95).the wings were plentiful and seasoned just right with that gravy!! The corn was buttery and easy on the palate, but the greens were just ok. I copped their banana pudding, and topped everything off with their house made half tea, half lemonade!! That pudding...taste like Mom made it!!! Customer service was exceptional, especially since there was a line outside the door. Payment?? Card only. Nice spot, you get a lot!! I'll remember that. That's it. #henryssoulcafe #goodeats #turkeywings #beefribs #bananapudding #bigschlimsreviews #halfandhalf #foodie #deliciousness #bakedbeans #corn #blackownedbusiness #oxonhillmaryland #enough #full #shareable #cheapeatsdc

Yelp
I ordered a two piece chicken with side order of greens and potato salad and chitlins. Dessert peach cobbler. I spent over $30. Nothing tasted so bad I couldn't eat. I was disappointed by the chitterlings which had more hog malls... very little chitterlings ($17+ for a pint size container). The fried chicken seem to be cooked in old oil. One bite of potato salad was a raw potato. Soul food takes time to cook so why do you NOT throw a ham hock, or turkeys part in the greens water to season the greens and string beans????? They would taste so much better and your customers would appreciate so much more. The cobbler did not have any pastry...none... in it (my favorite part). it was as if they stewed peaches and put in a cup with out the pastry. So I probably will not be back.

Yelp
Henrys was great when it opened. Now they are far too busy and never have enough staff. henrys was great when it opened. Now they are far too busy and never have enough staff. They are unable to handle holiday crowds, and this is been an ongoing thing. lied to over and over about your wait time just to go back two and three times to be told you have more of a wait. . they were in no ways prepared for Christmas Eve crowd and the customers had to stop for food. However, they make sure to take your money upfront. Please get staFred and do better this community & my Family has support ed you from day one. I'm now in my 5th hour waiting for 40 chicken wings that were ordered at 11am. it's 4:43 and I've been rudely told "you might as well have a seat, of which there are none. No compensation offered so this will be our last time.

Darius D.

Yelp
Came to this place on a Sunday expecting amazing soul food and was very disappointed!!! After hearing good things about this place I decided to give it a try and pretty much wasted my time and money. The food was so basic and bland..no kind of distinct taste that would make a memorable experience. My coworker recommended the pie and I could go out and buy a store bought pie that could taste better. Normally the usual "hole-in-the-wall" would give off a vibe that "yea the building doesn't look all that great, but the food is amazing!!". I even placed an order ahead of time and still had to wait! Like what was the point of me even placing an order if that's the case?? This will definitely be the last time I try restaurants that are advertised over the radio.

Mandy M.

Yelp
Henry's Soul Cafe has the BEST soul food in the DMV!

Nikki V.

Yelp
Disappointed with Henry's this year. I always do a catering order and this years setup was the worst. I was in line for over 30 minutes waiting to pick up my food with the rest of the people. When I was given a pickup time. My food should have been waiting in the window!! It was chaotic and badly organized this year. Unfortunately, I won't be back. Parking was just ridiculous ‍. Bye Henry's .

Cleveland W.

Yelp
Really good food and sweet potato pie is the best. Smothered Pork Chops and greens is outstanding .Staff is very friendly

Nayy K.

Yelp
To start , I called in to place my order when I was on my way. I have never been , from the moment I was on the phone the conversation was rushed , the cashier could have put me on hold if that was the case. I inquired about salmon cakes , and how much for the dinner. I asked if there was a recommendation for sides , she said they were all good , I asked what sides they had she huffed and puffed like my questions were such a inconvenience. I ended the conversation and just ordered once I got inside the store . Upon receiving my food there was no utensils in my bag, I wasn't asked if I needed any sauce . There was a line , so the cashier was busy I asked a lady in the back for hot sauce , she said I needed to wait and ask the cashier . Customer service was horrible. On to the food . The salmon cakes were rubbery, they were primarily filled with filling with barely any salmon in them. The yams were very good and the cabbage was good as well. When I reheated my second salmon cake it was inedible , like I said very similar to rubber . I have had fried whiting from a different location and it was good !

Liv Z.

Yelp
Avoid coming to this hole in the wall. Customer service doesn't exist. The teens they have answering the phone and taking orders have ZERO etiquette or customer service skills. The mediocre food is not worth dealing with the nasty attitudes and long wait. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Chris T.

Yelp
Sorry I didn't read the reviews before going. This is the worst burnt fried chicken I have ever had!

Shenita B.

Yelp
I buy pies all the time and normally the quality and taste is a hit but this Christmas was different. Sweet potato pie is normally bomb.. this time is wasn't. The crust was soggy. I may need to lay off for a while. Thanksgiving the pies were really good. Did you all get another cook for Christmas? I really would like consistency with taste/quality. Please do something about the sogginess of the crust. I'd really like to know did a different person make pies this time.

Welsy B.

Yelp
Omg! The soul food here touched my heart! Being from Mississippi it's hard finding food that's nostalgic but Henry's did it for me. Our family ate here after Christmas 2021...ordered the croaker, cabbage greens with Mac & cheese. Soooo freaking good. Try it and tell me im wrong. Lol

Will N.

Yelp
Good food and very friendly service. Love to get food that reminds me of home and this hit the spot

Vp P.

Yelp
I was craving some soul food on a nice Sunday evening. Unfortunately, I stopped here to try the Turkey wings dinner with greens and yams. The gravy and stuffing for wings was pretty decent. The greens were old and taste re-heated, the yams taste like a bag of brown sugar. Definitely disappointed in wasting $15 on a meal that was awful. Try at your own risk. No photos because the food went into the trash. Oh, The cornbread muffin was good.

Mz C.

Yelp
First time eating real soul food since relocating to SC and I must say this food is absolutely amazing! I ordered the whitting Mac n cheese and greens... y'all about mouth watering... but that's not the best part... y'all I had left overs for my lunch and was completely full both times. Called in to order the food and although to the point the lady was extremely helpful with answering all of my questions. If you have not tried it... today would be a great do you do so. Thanks Henry's for feeding my soul with such good food.

Yelp
I have frequent this business occasionally. However I think I'm done. I ordered corn bread stuffing w gravy. It's just corn bread with gravy on it. I didnt taste your usual spices and seasoning that are in stuffing. (Onions, celery) Chicken wings have hair and feathers. Usually the asian want to serve chicken wings that could still fry. African American community cleans the hair and feathers from their chicken wing. I'm not sure of the macaroni and cheese recipe. Need an egg. Very broken up and crumbled. Or maybe I got the last in the pan. I wish them all the best and continues success. I remember Mr Henry on U st. Please perfect his recipes!

Yelp
The woman at the checkout counter was nice and patient during my decision making process (my bf says my process can be agonizing at times with my indecisiveness). The place was clean and they seemed to have some regulars or customers who are familiar with staff. When I got home and opened the bag the food was definitely not very appealing and quite questionable with a greasy box. It just showed a lack of quality in presentation and style but I'm greedy so I couldn't help but proceed with caution anyway. I'm just going to say I am picky about mac n cheese but ESPECIALLY baked mac n cheese. Long story short, flavorless, mushy, hardly baked. I've "krafted" gourmet mac n cheese myself from a boxed Cacker Barral kit, shredded cheese, paprika, and spices on a struggle night and family members have killed the leftovers. The smothered pork chops tasted as if they had been frying everything in the same oil. The cornbread crumbled as soon as I bit into it and was not very moist at all. The ribs were fatty, not falling off the bone, questionably cooked, and tasteless even with barbeque sauce. The collard greens were doused in pepper and nothing else, chopped inconsistently and with huge chunks. Needless to say, I couldn't bring myself to take more than a couple of bites. Usually when something doesn't taste very good you sometimes will cope with the disappointment and eat the food. It is bad enough that soul food is a guilty pleasure of mine. I rarely eat it due to trying to stay healthy but I was not going to eat something that did not taste good and of poor quality. I've lived in the south and I know soul food doesn't taste or look like that.

Yelp
Very disappointing. Sweet potato pie had been on my mind all morning, and a new friend (as I am new to the area) told me to try this place out. It was an hour away, but I am up for good food and a little road trip most times. GPS said the trip was an hour, so at the 30 minute mark.. we pulled over and placed an online order. Arrived 2 minutes after the Toast App stated the food should be ready, only to find out that the online ordering feature didn't work. We had ordered closed to $100 worth of food including pies, pudding and cobbler and the gentleman at the counter, who identified himself as a manager ensured to take no ownership of the current issue. He even shrugged it off when I griped that the online ordering feature can be turned off as needed... he just told me 'lemme see ya order' and that I could find the owner's info on the website, but 'that wasn't him'. After plugging my order in manually... my 30 minute wait turned into 10. Of course- I got reheated food, half cooked ribs, pork chops that obviously had been cooked in the chicken grease. When I attempted to pay for my meal, the gentleman advised to me that the payment (you know, from the non-working app) had gone through successfully and I didn't have to worry about reattempting... lucky me... One star because no stars is not an option. The inquiry I sent on yesterday was returned with a lackadaisical greeting... and honestly, I don't know what the DC location is like, but I think they should go ahead and close the Oxon Hill store down.

Yelp
First time as a patron there and I was underwhelmed. Firstly, not a very warm welcome when I first arrived. There were 3 people standing in the back and they looked at me as if I was bothering them by coming. And I was the only customer there. The guy was on his phone while around food in the kitchen which turned me off but I still said let me give it a try. Spending money on food that doesn't taste good is another thing. The food lacked flavor altogether. The cornbread, however, was good. But who cares about cornbread when the main dish and sides are missing something essential. I had hoped this was a good place I could add to my soul food short list but Annie Maes in Largo is much better, even though they're only open weekends. They really missed the mark.
