Sat outside but it was raining so next time I would ask to be seated inside. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The food was good, however the portion size was a little small. The mac n cheese was 295. My friend got the brownie and said it was probably the best brownie she has had in Taipei. It cost 200. The staff were friendly and helpful

Google
A vegetarian western-style restaurant with a lot of oily food and a cool young vibe. I took the fried Wonton and a sweet chili sauce that were good along with the BBQ Sandwich that came with a small salad in vinegar sauce and France fries. The fries were crunchy, and the salad was fresh but could have a better dressing then just vinegar. I found the sandwich interesting as it had mashed potatoes inside, not something I use to see in a sandwich it also had BBQ flavored mushrooms and I think some pickles could improve it. For dessert, I took their orange & almond cake which were very soft but a bit bitter. Presentation wise all of the dishes look lovely.

Google
One of the best vegetarian places I've been to in Taipei. Food was full of flavour and cooked just right, especially the moussaka. They serve a great selection of wine, both red and white and also have a range of craft beer. Only reason I give four stars is that we were made to sit outside, it was raining and cold. They only turned on the burner/heater after requested. Poor, especially because they charge service charge.

I love the food, especially the Thai pasta. Also had a great talk with the owner once, very nice guy. But as soon as the owner is not in the restaurant the service gets just straight up bad. Waiters just looking at their phone for multiple minutes, giving a very demotivated attitude and even bringing out wrong food. I had an incident where I got tomato sauce pasta instead of the Thai pasta, I told the waiter and he just said eeeehhhhh. ( Told him in mandarin, he definitely understood). Didn't offer to replace it, no apology, no free drinks, I had to pay the full price. This restaurant is expensive for Taiwan so you should expect more. My family owned a restaurant and tbh if I would catch a waiter working like this I would just say bye bye. I have been there 3 times and this guy is always acting the same if the boss is not there.

Google
A cozy veggie place located in a residential area. The food is simply delicious and of high quality. I had avocado Benedict and a glass of cashew milk. It came with a huge portion and was full of flavor, which made me crave for more. It only cost me about 12 bucks to have a great brunch and a wonderful dining experience. High c/p value, definitely recommended!!

Been here for more than at least 6 times over the years. Always thought it’s an okay place. Not bad and not surprisingly good. Not many places has warm salad (4 stars) so I can here, the only thing I crave here. The truffle Benedict was tasteless (2 stars) Didn’t have much of a truffle taste, the “muffin” doesn’t taste good either, more Like a pancake? Not sure what it is... I usually go to miacucina, another vegetarian place, but it sorta got worse this year so I came here...but it wasn’t super satisfying... any other places for good vegetarian place, please let me know.

Google
Great vegetarian restaurant. They do vegan too. A hidden spot that's not easy to find. The servers are friendly and speak English. Love their food. Probably the best spot for a good vegetarian burger and brunch food. Would not suggest their pasta. Had their hot chocolate and was able to switch to cashew milk. It was very rich and creamy. Recommend: Avocado toast Veggie burger French toast Hummus dip Shakes (we asked for our mix of avocado, banana, honey blend and they loved it!)

Google
The atmosphere is pretty nice and I like that they have many plants. As for the brunch we ordered, it’s pretty good but not exceptional. But it’s good that they have many options for brunch side drinks. Not like most brunch places only provide black tea and coffee, they also have juice, soy milk, etc.. They have 2 hour dining time limit. And they accepted mobile payment.

Yelp
Excellent vegetarian place and one of my favorite restaurants in Taipei. They have lots of great options for both vegans and vegetarians! I've been here 3 times so I've had the chance to try many different items on the menu. The vegan Mac n cheese is good but is served with chips and grilled lettuce which is odd to me but it still tasted good. I can't remember what it's called but I also ordered a salad with mushrooms and a balsamic dressing that was fantastic. Another day I went for brunch and tried the Greek omelet and an açaí bowl - both were excellent! I also tried a fruit tart and a chai latte for dessert. The tart surprisingly had a layer of chocolate at the bottom underneath the raspberry filling - it was so good. I definitely recommend trying this place if you are in the area! Also note they have some outdoor seating so if the weather is nice, you can enjoy their quiet patio.

Yelp
First of all, the place was a little hard to find. You have to go down this small alleyway to find it. There is a sign that points to it but it's pretty easy to miss. I walked around it looking at my Google maps wondering where it was until I saw the sign. The food was okay. I got the avocado toast. They put a little too much oil to my liking (to the point where it kinda was dripping off) but it was nevertheless still pretty good. They have a pretty big menu selection for a vegetarian restuarant. The portion size also seemed decently big (at least for me). The food was somewhat more expensive than most places in Taiwan though. The service was not bad. The restaurant isn't too big so there was always a waiter kind of hovering around and they seemed to be accommodating towards any dietary needs. The atmosphere was very cafe/bar like. It seemed like a nice place to just chill and do work. They do have free wifi. I would probably come here again if I had the chance to try the other things on their menu. I wish they served brunch all day because some of the stuff on the brunch menu looked pretty appetizing.

Yelp
A quaint cozy restaurant/cafe in the city center of Taipei. It's a vegetarian restaurant! So they don't have any meats but their food is really high quality. I've only had their pastas (bolognese and mushrooms in a pink vodkaish sauce). Their pastas all have more of an asian take on Italian pastas, they even have a Kimchi pasta! The only complaint I have is their pasta could be a tad more al dente. This is a perfect place to hang out with friends and chat through the afternoon and order some coffee and dessert. Must get: Coffee! Their cappuccino is delicious, be sure not to miss out. Tips: It's a little hard to find! Make sure to look left or right at the teeny tiny alleys. For lunch on a weekday, no reservations necessary but you might need it for weekends since they don't have that many tables.

Yelp
First meal after coming back to Taiwan! Definitely make a reservation before you come here. We booked two days in advance and could only get outdoor seating :( It gets really hot in the summer so I don't recommend outdoor seating in this weather (literally dripping in sweat after we finished our meal) . My friends all ordered off the brunch menu. The eggs benedict was cooked just right. The avocados were a bit too ripe though. I ordered the puttanesca (煙花女) and I love it. There were a lot of olives in there for some reason but the tomato sauce was strong and flavorful. The interior design was really cute. I would have given it five stars but it took an hour for our food too come (really?). They did waive our service fee because the service was slow and we were sitting outside. I would recommend if you are looking for an organic/healthy place! It's cute.

Yelp
This was my first time and I was excited to try out another vegetarian restaurant in Taiwan with so much hype other than Miacucina. The restaurant itself is very cute and has nice ambiance. My friends and I came here for brunch, so there were more options for us to choose on the menu ranging from the classic brunch such as eggs benedict, french toast, omelette, and other food like pasta, salad, side dishes that are more like for actual lunch and dinner. They also tailor the food to suit your diet such as gluten-free, nut-free, vegan style, etc. We ordered pink sauce and mushroom pasta, pesto pasta, and avocado eggs benedict. I loved both pasta, its sauce is very rich in flavor and delicious! HOWEVER, I was disappointed with the eggs benedict because they missed the most important part -- the poached eggs. The eggs were cooked too much that when I sliced the middle, I did not see that nice ooze of egg yolk. My friend who ordered the dish was very unsatisfied with the dish. I want to believe that we were just not lucky but that was my experience. Aside from that, I loved my first time at this restaurant. I wouldn't mind coming here again even if I'm not looking for a vegetarian food because their pasta and other dishes are very good and the employees were nice and friendly as well. It's also hidden in a small alley so it's easy to miss out and have hard time to find this place. Don't forget to make reservations in advance

Yelp
[2019] update: still great, staple visit every time I'm in town. always packed, advised to book in advance,, perfect miini pies. Some salads were turned into pasta dish and the consistency of the gnocchi still feels non Italian BUT the flavours were well balanced. I had a lettuce tempeh burger which was very flavourful.

Thomas H.

Yelp
Bleh, really bad brunch food (compare to the US). But the restaurant has a nice atmosphere for chatting and the service was nice. We sat in there for close to 2 hours on a Sunday morning. Called to made reservation and asked them if it was ok for a group to be there for a while.

Yelp
My mate just had to take a carnivore like me to a veggie place, and oh how delighted I was! I ordered the jalapeño hummus, and it was a huge! And my biggest discovery was mulled wine! My god, who invented this drink?! It's way too delightful and makes me think of Christmas and fireplaces and snowmen and all that winteriness (not an actual word FYI). My mate ordered the Pad Thai, and that dish was spicy! Spicy pad Thai, hummus, and mulled wine? You bet we were sweating and having a great time ;)

Matt C.

Yelp
The wait staff is very slow, it takes 20 mins for them to take your order and another 40 mins for the food to finally arrive. The pesto sauce is really salty and the gnocci tastes more like bubba or noodles rather than potato/flour. I'm giving this place 4 stars because its a nice date place, but I wouldn't come here often just for the food. Its location is very convenient, although its hard to find because its in an alley way.

Collin H.

Yelp
Firstly to correct a previous review: all vegetarian but not all vegan (plenty of options, though) I was expecting mediocre western style vegan food here and was so pleasantly surprised!!! Really nice quiet setting off of an alley makes for nice indoor and outdoor seating with a bar area, perfect for solo dining. The food is definitely western style but every item has an interesting twist or take on it. While eating I watched the chefs constantly testing new flavor ideas, really cool to see them so into making interesting meals. There are plenty of vegan options but nothing on the grilled cheese front (hoping for some fake cheese goodness!). I ordered the tempeh burger since I'm always curious how each place in Taipei customizes their burgers. If this was a tempeh burger it was very very soft! Usually tempeh is more dense and mealy but this tasted more like a bean burger. In any event, it was delicious and the cartelized onions on top had really really great flavor. For desert: the only vegan option, a chocolate, banana, chia seed pudding. This was prepared fresh to order and excellently presented. Pretty simple: on of the best, most decadent vegan deserts I've had in a long time! While eating I had to keep asking what each dish coming from the kitchen was, they all looked great. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Yelp
Cute and cozy little restaurant with nice service. I had the vegan Mac and cheese and wasn't too impressed. It came with pita chips that were super oily. The Mac and cheese itself was not bad but nothing to write home about. I'm sure the other stuff on the menu might be better but at this point I can only give it a 3 star.

Barry S.

Yelp
Probably my favorite so far. I'm ever so picky when it comes to western food because I know how it's actually "meant to taste" having lived abroad for the majority of my life. To find a place in Taiwan that serves western food as authentic as this, is honestly the most exciting (also because I'm a vegetarian). There were only compliments going around our table of 6 (5 of which are dedicated meat eaters). I'll definitely be visiting soon just to try out their other dishes we didn't get to order this time round. And I also won't be afraid of inviting my non-vegetarian friends because this one might just change their views on vegetarianism/veganism.

Yelp
Vegetarian food in Taiwan is easy to find, but it's mostly Taiwanese/Chinese style. There is nothing wrong with that, but it's nice to have some Western-style vegetarian too. Herban Kitchen does a great job of filling in this gap. Finding Herban can be a bit of a challenge as it's hidden in an alley. Just keep an eye out for their sign on the corner of the alley and look for a wall of graffiti. The restaurant itself is pretty cute. There aren't a lot of tables, and one of the tables is communal. Reservations are recommended. Veggie on: - Grilled eggplant grilled cheese sandwich NT$320 - Super cheesy grilled cheese sandwich NT$320 - Moussaka NT$340 - Orange cinnamon french toast - Chocolate banana chia seed pudding NT$220 - Tropicolada smoothie NT$180 I've been to Herban several times and I generally veer toward their grilled cheese offerings because I love grilled cheese. If you love large globs of melted cheese like I do, the super cheesy is for you. If you want something lighter, the grilled eggplant is a good choice. All sandwiches come with fries (which are delicious) and tomato soup (which is also delicious). If you're looking for brunch, the french toast is a good option if you're looking for salty and sweet. While you only actually get one slice of french toast (which is slightly disappointing), it comes with scrambled egg, sauteed mushrooms, potatoes, salad and a drink. Overall, pretty good and filling. The moussaka was pretty good too. The tomato sauce has a slight kick to it, so if you are particularly sensitive to spicy food like my friend is, this might not be for you (I barely noticed the spice personally). The smoothies I would skip. There isn't anything special about them and they are rather pricey for what you get. Overall, a pretty good place if you're needing a vegetarian restaurant or if you just want to have some non-meaty food.

Yelp
One of my coworkers turned me onto this little vegetarian hidden gem. It's in the alleys near Zhongxiao East Road, but pretty hidden in the back area. I never would have found it if not for her. Anywho, this place is pretty awesome. I love their variety of health conscious brunch foods, as well as an all vegetarian menu. We sat outside on a summers day, it the weather and food combo was perfect. I really wanted to order the moussaka, but because we were on a bit of a time crunch, I opted for the frittata instead. This was super light and fluffy, and the potatoes and veggies were very hearty. Their side salad with a balsamic vinaigrette and toasted bread was also extremely refreshing and tasty. I tried to book this place on a Friday night, but it was all full, so reservations are extremely recommended. I will definitely be back to try their veggie moussaka soon! Until next time -

Eileen C.

Yelp
Overall a great experience here. 4 stars just because the place is cramped and the wait staff hardly checks on the tables outside the restaurant. I suggest making reservations to avoid waiting. Food won't send your taste buds to heaven, but still somewhat delicious with neat presentation.

M L.

Yelp
Good food, a little hard to find & a little pricey but great tempeh burger & fries. The pasta bolognese was not terrific but the spicy Thai pasta with cashews was pretty good. Plan on spending at least NT $1000+ on 3 people. Nice atmosphere & nice staff.

Yelp
Harrrrrro yelp and fellow yelpers!!! Ive been out of the country for a few months and now Im back. With a hungry tummy and excited to take on new food places :D Last night I had the pleasure of eating at Herban. It was amazing. The warm mushroom and grilled tofu salad was very flavorful, and the tempeh burger too was filling and delicious. Very impressed!! Ive heard their pasta is amazing, but I havent had the pleasure of trying them out...so...i think ill have to go back next week! Decor: very cute, excellent choice of music too.

Yelp
Frequent drop by place for brunch Love their hummus !! Fresh orange juice with chia seeds Burger with heavy portions !! Eggplant sandwich shouldn't be missed A place to be for veggies !! Hi5 guys Gv

Helene H.

Yelp
Herban Kitchen is operated by two very affable restaurateurs who are probably single-handedly responsible for the rave reviews I keep hearing of this place. The owners are really hands on, interacting with customers, addressing requests and making recommendations themselves, without being overbearing in any way. The name led me to believe that this would be something of a health restaurant, which it isn't necessarily. No meat on the menu, this offers loads od great options for vegetarians. Not necessarily those who consider 50CC of juiced vegetables a meal. Rather, Herban Kitchen offers hearty veggie-heavy cooking. Caprese salads with thick slabs of mozarella, sinfully fluffy omlettes and sweet roasted butternut beside heavily-laden hot skillets. This is a great brunch venue, and offers a good patio to soak up some rays. But it's not just good food! Herban Kitchen really has their drinks covered too. This restaurant offers specialty beers, wines, cocktails and coffees.

Amanda A.

Yelp
Loooove the grilled cheese here. And the place feels like home, cozy and easy. Staffs are like your friends, nice and friendly.

Pat R.

Yelp
Food 3.5 Service 4 Ambiance 4.5 O/all 3ish things to note: 1/ really cool space 2/ mainly sandwiches and pasta, priced at ~NT300-360 or US10-12 3/ staff is friendly and helpful 4/ portion size is generous 5/ frankly, the food is just ok...

Paige M.

Yelp
I absolutely love Herban! I am a vegetarian who is transitioning into becoming a vegan, but travel internationally for a living, which has made it difficult to find vegan options. Shortly after I landed in Taipei, I found Herban for lunch and it was perfect. They had vegan and vegetarian options, the food was AMAZING, and the staff was wonderful. It felt more as if I stepped into someone's house than at a restaurant, which I loved. I loved that vibe it gave off, as well as the staff. They were so kind and I can't wait to go back! If you're a vegetarian, vegan, or even meat eater, give it a try! You will not be disappointed!

Tiffany C.

Yelp
The food is so good! That my carnivore friends actually likes it! A decent portion with a reasonable price. I would definitely come here more often and introduce not only my vegan friends but also my friends who have doubts for vegetarian food. The staff is extremely nice as well. We had jalepano hummus, warm mushroom salad with grilled tofu, spicy Thai pasta and creamy pink sauce with mushrooms. My friends and I all enjoyed it.

Judy L.

Yelp
I love everything about this place. The decor and ambiance are pretty and cute. The food was very delicious and healthy. It reminded me of the type of food I would get in San Francisco. We also got tiramisu for dessert and it tasted great. I'm definitely coming back to try other dishes.

Pat M.

Yelp
We ate here several times on a trip to Taiwan, on first arriving and then as we were leaving the country. One in our group has celiac disease and knowing we could get a gluten free meal there, where staff understood the concept and the menu was clear, was a great relief when we were without family and friends to translate. The place was always busy, the decor is nicely thought through, and the food is overall quite good. The only problem was how uneven the service was. Every time we were there (an early dinner, a late dinner, and lunch) food came out as though the chef was preparing only one entree at a time. For example, my dinner entree was served more than 30 minutes after my husband's and nearly 20 minutes after the others at the table. This may not matter when one is eating family style and dishes are brought to the table when ready for everyone to dig in but it is a disconnect for a more western style of ordering an entree per person. And some of the entrees were lukewarm when they finally did arrive. So good food, good atmosphere, friendly and comfortable for those with specific dietary issues, but be prepared to wait (and wait) for your meal.

Irene H.

Yelp
This is a vegetarian spot that seems pretty popular among locals. I came here to eat with a friend and liked the rustic vibe--wine box ceilings, chalkboards, indie music, and lots of green. I ordered the vegan tempeh burger, which was good, but greasy. I still ate it all haha, but when I come to spots like this I don't really like eating deep fried, oily foods. I feel like it kind of just defeats the purpose. The tempeh burger took 30 minutes to come out, which is why I'm docking a star. I'm docking another star because I was seated in my seat, and then I felt water dripping on me. Not exactly the thing you want when you're trying to order. It was water dripping from the AC vent.. really wasn't happy with that. I had to take it upon myself to move seats because I couldn't find someone to help me. It wasn't busy, and I expected more. My friend ordered a breakfast tofu scramble, which was 1/4 tofu and 3/4 black beans. Hmm I had high hopes for this place but was kind of let down. I'd come back again to try their other things, but I won't be expecting as much.

Abhilash J.

Yelp
I was tired of eating meet and wanted a vegetarian joint. Reading the reviews I visited the place. It's a decent choice of food spread they have. Taste wise solid I would say. It's a good place to visit for a change in menu. Will visit again.

C W.

Yelp
I had the warm tofu salad over the weekend and it was very satisfying. Just the perfect size too. The mix berry yoghurt smoothie was very mediocre. Will try a different refreshment next time.

Aaron Y.

Yelp
I came in here by accident, since I normally do not seek out vegetarian places. The food fills a nice niche for people wanting western style vegetarian food.

Amy C.

Yelp
All veg/vegan. The new menu is adds more variety. Spinach walnut salad is refreshing.
