"Herb’s is the beloved family-owned market in town. It’s a great place to pick up sandwiches and beers to take to the beach, but the real reason to come here is for the fried chicken, which is the best on the East End. We specifically recommend getting as many wings as they have in stock. Congrats, you’re about to become the most popular person at Ditch." - melissa kravitz hoeffner, team infatuation

I wanted to like this spot, it had an old school deli vibe. 2 of the del counter workers were cool. The taller Latina was on her headset and working in slow motion. Made us a "grilled cheese " in the toaster over for $9. The exhaust hood was in bad need on a cleaning, place just seemed pricey and the workers, with the exception of ( the latin guy ,w/ a goatee) behind the counter, seemed checked out. Sloppily wrapped sandwiches, lil hustle, care or personality. Place charges premium prices though

Friendly staff. Great quality beef that we cooked on the grill and enjoyed their homemade potato and corn salads

Google
Nice to be able to close at 4:00 when closing time is 5:00. Not much choice here either. Glad that Hooked was open or there would have been nothing for dinner.

Google
Fried chicken was amazing, legit some of the best I’ve ever had. It was quite packed/seemed a bit disorganized when we were there, so here’s a tip: go to the back to order the fried chicken / sides. Once they hand it to you, go check out at the front. You don’t need to wait in line to pay at the deli counter.

Google
A Montauk institution, best fried chicken on the island! But be prepared to pay!

Google
Best fried chicken in town hands down! Great service, friendly staff(say hi to Carl) and some of the best food in town. Great for grabbing something to go and hit the beach. Also great for breakfast sandwiches too. All cooked on their new flat top griddle. Ask for a corned beef hash and egg sandwich!

Logan Russell

Google
Had to wait a long time for a buffalo sandwich, which had half a bottle of bluecheese. I could tell the sandwich was made with lack of care and attention to detail. Another person I was there with also asked for a roast beef with just barbecue sauce and pickles, at first he questioned if they had pickles on it they did not, then when he began to eat he had 0 barbecue sauce. I do not know if this quality has to do with how busy they were at the time or if it is a regular occurrence.

Google
I often wake up in the middle of the night, in a cold sweat, thinking about their chicken. I have driven two hours, just to sate my appetite for this chicken. There is no other fried chicken that can compare, bow down to the G.O.A.T and respect the glorious demi-Gods that made our humble lives a bit better merely from the existence of this delicacy..

John R.

Yelp
This review is for one thing and takeout only. The fried chicken. If you have a large group you are trying to feed while visiting Montauk this is a great option to consider. Oh, and though I said one thing... the other add-on you will want to consider for the fried chicken is the mashed potatoes. Get as much as you need for whatever sized group you are and everyone will be happy.

Jay G.

Yelp
Best fried chicken I've ever had. Nicest owners. A Montauk staple if there ever was one !!

Pammie S.

Yelp
Loved the deli- friendly fast service! The chicken salad and bagels were delicious. Great variety of prepared foods to choose from.

Yelp
came here during a day trip for a quick lunch. seems very popular, a place for people to grab some food and head to the beach or somewhere outdoors. I was drawn to the fried chicken because it seemed lots of people were getting it and I had seen some positive reviews. I guess I took too long to think and soon the chicken sold out and was told to wait 10 or so minutes for another batch to come out. The person manning the cash register saw that I was a bit unhappy and joked "if you aren't smiling, then no chicken." I honestly didn't enjoy the thought of leaving town without trying their chicken so I decided to wait a bit. I told the cashier (owner or related to the owner) that I was unhappy because we had a limited time to buy lunch and eat it and he comped us the two pieces of chicken. I'm very grateful and thankful for this because this gesture allowed me to be happy and set me up to have a wonderful rest of the day in Montauk and enjoy some great memories. The chicken was hot and juicy and the ribs are quite good as well. Check them out. Thanks Herb's Market. I will try to smile as much as possible and be happy :)

Yelp
Order wrong. Maybe they didn't know what an over easy egg is? Frustrating when the food order is ready, bell rings, and woman at the counter proceeds to stay on her phone. $20 later for two egg sandies and drinks... this place used to be bangin with fresh counters full of food, fried chicken, etc. Not much anymore.

Patricia R.

Yelp
Still the BEST!! Fried chicken anywhere. Consistent over the years, the salads and hot table are stick to your ribs goodness. Try the Max& Cheese. Really good

Bill S.

Yelp
If your picnicking, camping or going on a fishing trip, you want to make a stop at Herb's Market first. People have been talking about the freshly made fried chicken. Yeah.. that sounds good. But what I want is a nice roast beef on a roll with mayo, salt & pepper. They have a fresh roasted turkey that they're slicing up. My wife is with me and says oooooh! Freshly made turkey! Want to split a sandwich? Yes dear..... Why all pissy you ask? My wife hates mayo. If she sees it, she gags. What the F.. After waiting on a hella long ordering line, I say one turkey sandwich with honey mustard please... Herb's Market is just that, it's Herb's Market and he's cooking for you. He makes fresh turkeys, hot foods and chicken! If you want a bucket of chicken, chicken by the piece or rotisserie chicken, Herb's got you covered son! We grab our sammys, sodas and chips. We're on the boat and I break out the thick turkey sammy. I take a bite. Damn, needs mayo-salt and pepper.. Herb's Market, your one stop shop for all your picnicking, camping or going on a fishing trip needs.

I Hateeverything I.

Yelp
I'm giving this place 5+ stars. Yes the sandwich making is great. Great deli, nice little bodega. But when I ran in for an emergency bottle of ketchup to appease a crowd of ketchup addicted kids and they were out, Herb poured a bunch of to go packets into a bag at no charge. What a great place!

Richie L.

Yelp
Excellant Fried Chicken!!!! Off the Hook!! Can't comment on anything else. That's all we bought and it was soo Frigin Good!!

Michael D.

Yelp
Great on-the-go lunch spot. The sandwiches are awesome -- perhaps the best in Montauk. You can choose from their set menu or create your own. But be warned: if you go for sandwiches around lunchtime, you may be there for half an hour. Next time we will consider just placing an order for pickup. There also appeared to be a pretty good selection of hot prepared foods, if you're into that kind of thing. Fruit and vegetable selection was a bit lacking. Lots of prepacked side-type things (Cole slaw, potato salad, bean salad, guacamole, etc). And chips galore. Also, they do sell beer. Good selection.

Jo Ann D.

Yelp
I go in read the sign &follow it, the arrow points to the back of the store for the line. I line up behind others to learn that's not where you wait online, you just stand bunched at the counter to order. I order 2 sandwiches & a grilled cheese.well the picture is of the "grilled" cheese. Yes it had a light toast to it but it wasn't grilled nor was the cheese melted at all. charged me $3.50+ for a sandwich that wasn't melted or grilled as I asked.I ordered a Buffalo sandwich for me &that was just as a bad. no Buffalo it was just dried fried chicken and cheese. The ice teas tasted horrible.A $30+ for horrible food and service. Way over priced grossness. Never will I visit this place and nobody else should either.

Herb D.

Yelp
Since this place is my namesake, I want it to be awesome, but unfortunately, they do some things right, and a few things wrong. Everything in here is overpriced, and that's because there is very little competition in the area. Plus, that fried chicken smell puts everyone under a spell when they walk in to this joint. They say "You Can't Beat Herb's Meat," they should be talking about not being able to beat higher prices. The butcher shop prices are a tiny bit on the high side, and I'm being sarcastic. They are just plain high. However, they boast that their meats are "PRIME" so if you know about meats, that means you pay more because of the quality of the beef. Is it really prime, well, I never found out....ended up getting my meat fix at the IGA down the road, where the prices are more in line with what I expected to pay for meat. However, we did get hero's at this location, and while I felt I overpaid, the hero's were packed with meat, and tasted delicious.

Yelp
Awesome classic New York style deli (plus fresh fried chicken !) right in the town of Montauk. This place is surprisingly large considering the location and offers and array of snack and drinks. The deli area is what make this place special. In addition to the fully service deli which served up some killer breakfast sandwiches the kitchen is pumping out fresh fried chicken all day which has been recognized as the panacea for sloppy tuna induced hang overs. The chicken is pretty cheap and was the best home made fried chicken I have had. Skip the place around the corner that does fried food and head here. Directions not necessary as you can smell this place .5 mile out of town.

Robert B.

Yelp
The manager is not friendly. They also charge a service fee. That's the first time I have been charged that kind of fee for purchasing food at a deli. I don't think it is legal but just another way of price gouging.

Joseph S.

Yelp
This is a true German deli, the cold cuts are Boreshead the breads they use and the Italian bread is super fresh. The sandwiches are delicious and outstanding you cannot go wrong with Herbs. They are efficient and fast even with a long line of people. I love this place.

Jason V.

Yelp
I think they had an issue with their case where it was too cold and freezing a bunch of items in it. I had bought a milk for my kids and it had a huge ice chuck it in and it tasted off, kinda of like was like it froze solid then started to thaw-out again. I went back later and told the cashier the milk was frozen and he was like okay thanks dude. I don't care about the $4 but the guy didn't say sorry didn't check the other milk etc...it's a shame because my wife liked the fried chicken and we probably would have went back, I just can't over look the food safety issues.

Yelp
Thanks to a tip from Amanda M. we stopped by Herb's Market to try their FAMOUS FRIED CHICKEN. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/rvrNLUBSXT66p68arSwIsA?select=DGW3eBohJqnL0jpkd2QMiQ The chicken was tender and the skin was crispy and not all greasy. Really yummy! I can see why it's famous in Montauk. My only complaint is that the chicken pieces were very small. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/rvrNLUBSXT66p68arSwIsA?select=gzKnO06Tu9jOEOppUZvnoQ For sides, we had the CREAMED SPINACH http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/rvrNLUBSXT66p68arSwIsA?select=IkOztyF10MHwspj0KQcr3w and the MAC AND CHEESE http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/rvrNLUBSXT66p68arSwIsA?select=SEIPyxFdIrO48vhrrWSSnQ . I really liked the creamed spinach - perfect consistency and there was something a little extra in there (celery?) that made it taste even better than most creamed spinaches I've had. But I wouldn't get the mac and cheese again - too mushy and nothing special. Since we were really hungry, we ate at the wooden table right outside of the market. But if you can hold out, tote your little bag of goodies all the way to the beach and make it a picnic. Besides being a great place for a quick and inexpensive bite, if you forgot to pack any toiletries or necessities, chances are you can find what you need at Herb's.

Steph S.

Yelp
Came out to Montauk to enjoy Labor Day weekend with a couple friends and the town was packed (as expected). Weather was absolutely beautiful so it was difficult to find a place available to sit down and eat until we came across Herb's Market. They had nice outdoor picnic tables which was pleasant and a ton of options inside from sandwiches to snacks and homemade deli salads. I ended up grabbing an Greek orzo salad that was pretty disappointing since it was really just canned olives and tasteless. A few of my friends ordered deli sandwiches and they looked delish! Nice place to grab a quick bite to bring back to the beach with you.

Todd H.

Yelp
Frued chicken rocks. Phat ass heros. Great place to stop before the beach. If you want fried chicken get there early. Salads sandwiches soda ice whatever you need they got it

Yummy M.

Yelp
Cranky owner and high prices but great sandwiches and salads for the beach. Strong coffee too!

Kimberly W.

Yelp
Herb's has good fried chicken that is a staple item for fishing trips. Not greasy, reasonably priced & served by kind, friendly staff. Their logo, "You can't beat Herb's meat" also makes me laugh every time I see someone wearing one of their shirts. Also, it's a great place to get a salad where you point to what you want in it & they mix it right in front of you. Good variety of simple food items in the market & nice home-made unsweetened iced tea-a summer staple for me! Bringing your own cup is ok too! Cheers, Herb's!

Winnie K.

Yelp
Sandwich line was absurdly long but so so worth it! The line makes sense after you bite into the sandwich! The salad and hot bar staff were slow and unsure about everything (seemed like it was their first day on the job). Fried chicken is overrated, honestly- did I just go on an off day?? The breast was dry, thigh better but still not "the best fried chicken in the world". Prices are more expensive than your regular grocery store, but it's The Hamptons, unfortunately have come to expect it!

Adeline J.

Yelp
Sandwich was good. But a warning - CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENT - They have a little machine, and it "wasn't working" so they had to keep swiping it. I ended up with 4 charges! I know they weren't trying to pull a scam, but it's still unacceptable and a real hassle.

Molly O.

Yelp
If you're going to get a chicken cutlet sandwich - this is the place to get it. They know what they're doing when it comes to fried chicken and sandwiches! And the portion is definitely on the larger side. The line gets crazy long during lunch hour on the weekends in the summer - being walking distance from the beach you can understand why. Prices are fair, especially for being out in the hamptons, can't comment on their other food because I kind of stick to the staples when coming here. Will say they are stingy on plastic cups if you ask for some with whatever drinks you're purchasing, but minor detail on an otherwise delicious lunch spot.

Julianne B.

Yelp
Herbs is a high end delí and market that has some baller fried chicken. You can smell this chicken throughout the Montauk strip and it will make you salivate. It can get pretty packed here so I like to go on the earlier side. It's spacious inside, so even when it's crowded it's not too bad. I will sometimes wander and check out the other items they have for sale. If you need to grab a few veggies or some groceries, the prices are high but it is convenient to get breakfast and all your shopping done for the day in one stop. They have a nice coffee bar with iced and hot coffee. I appreciate how easy it is to serve yourself and access the milk without elbowing 3 other people. I usually pick up a local newspaper (around $1) to see what's going on. I did not appreciate that they charged me and my fiance two different prices for the same water bottle. They must take a look at you and judge how thirsty and desperate you are, not cool. That being said, I will just stick to coffee, fried chicken and sammies from here.

Deanna W.

Yelp
Herb's Market fare was definitely one of the gourmet highlights during my weekend getaway in Montauk. I'm talking about their famous fried chicken of course. It's neither fussy nor frou-frou but it will exceed any expectations you may have had about grocery store fried chicken. The crust is crispy, well-seasoned with a salty kick and the meaty innards are moist and delightfully juicy. This chicken is perfect for a picnic on the beach, the park etc. but I happily scarfed down my pieces inside my motel room. The thighs go for $2.75 a piece while I think the white meat is a dollar more. Even the hubby who was a cynic at first, mused: 'wow! that's some nice chicken', upon his first and only bite. Our friends got fried cod fish sandwiches and they were crispy and huge, the size of hoagies really. They seemed pleased with their meals. We ordered some potato chips and homemade potato salad to round out our impromptu meal. You can stock up on any provisions or necessities here as well. I should also add that Herb's is one of the few places in town who haven't jacked up their prices. I don't feel like I'm being eye gouged here, so that's nice. I'm still thinking about that fried chicken. Thanks to Amy S and Amanda for this trusty tip!

Liana G.

Yelp
Food is fine, however, not worth the outrageous demeaning behavior of the sales associate. Last night I picked up a catering order for 16 people and encountered the most demeaning, sexist sales associate. As I was picking up my order, I decided to go to the back counter and order additional side dishes as the side dishes didn't seem large enough. When I returned, the cashier moved my order to another counter and refused to move it back as he accused me and my sister-in-law of "shopping for dresses" in the back. Not that this is appropriate ever, but it was not in a joking, friendly manner . He continued to be demeaning and just pointed. My husband's family has patronized this business since it's inception and we are appalled at the behavior.

Alison B.

Yelp
This place was like heaven in the land of the overpriced tourist traps that span much of Sunrise here. Sometimes you're sick of having big, fancy sit-down breakfast and lunch and that's when Herb's Market rushes to the rescue. Their egg sandwiches are solid to excellent (perfect ooze factor on my egg & cheese) and will set you back a whopping $2 for two eggs, cheese and your choice of meat. At lunch, we fed our party of seven for less than $5 each and my chicken cutlet sandwich (with two cutlets, mayo and pepper) was absolutely perfect (though it had to be remade when they assumed I wanted cheese on it). Morning crowd is mostly regulars who all know each other (tourists are busy with the fresh doughnuts down the way) but afternoon crowd is mixed and the deli line gets quite long. (Caveat: They have one line for sandwiches, one line for hot foods and one line for smoothies and no one picks up the slack if the line is excessively long at one of the sections.) Believe me when I tell you that it's well worth waiting for their insanely cheap food. The rest of the market has all the odds and ends you might want to go with your counter food, including a salad bar, a large selection of chips and other snacks, plenty of drink choices (including root beer from some fancy place--the only overpriced thing in the place at $2.25 for 10 oz.) and aspirins and other toiletry-type stuff.

Darya S.

Yelp
I have never experienced such rude customer service. All I wanted was a few bagels. The lady behind the counter was on a phone call for like five minutes so I asked another girl who worked there. She made it clear she didn't want to help me out by not knowing any answers to my questions and walking away. The woman behind the counter got off the phone but was still ignoring me. She finally came over and gave me such attitude. Made the bagels, took forever, threw them on the counter, and obnoxiously said "THREE BAGELS," with hatred in her eyes. Wow screw you bagel lady, not my fault you hate your job.

John D.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for some dinner picnic provisions, our first night on vacation in Montauk. I had researched and heard of the legend of the fried chicken, and wanted to discover for myself the hype around it. Why five stars? Because of this interaction: Scene: at the deli counter. I am standing there, and a tween girl comes in on her cell phone, cuts in front of me Deli: "are either of you ready" Girl *chats on phone* "uhh yea can I get..." Deli: "oh no love, I'm not taking your order if you're talking to me while on the phone" Me: "ok I'm ready!" Deli: "great! "*smiles* Sure the food was delicious and that chicken was amazing, prices were comparable to NYC, but watching the deli staff put an obnoxious 12-year-old in her place made our evening!

Andrew G.

Yelp
Herb's is the Montauk staple for cold cuts in town, and rightly so. They give you a good selection of stuff, and have some nice sandwich selections to make for you. However, there also isn't another REAL legitimate provider of this service in Montauk, so I think a lot of their business is out of necessity and demand. HOWEVER, they make a pretty good sandwich nonetheless! I got my standard cold cut sandwich, which they made well, but WAY overloaded with meat. It was almost tough to fit in my month, which took away from experience! Pricey for what you get, but that's sometimes the case in MTK, Just wish the product was as good as the hype.

Deborah H.

Yelp
Literally all I got here was a chicken wing, thanks to you Yelpers. For a piece of meat that's been sitting under a heat lamp all day, it was pretty freaktastically delicious. Salty, savory, meat a little dry (expectedly). I can see how this would be the ultimate "I just spent the day at the beach and want to munch on something with my sand-covered hands" food. It gave me nostalgia even though it was rainy and cold when I nommed it. If I'm back in Montauk, I will definitely come back for more chicken.

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
I've been smelling the fried chicken in and out of Herb's for a couple summers now. Finally, I tried it today for a late lunch on Sunday- the hot bar line goes fast, but the sandwich line does not. The chicken is good, but not artisanal fried chicken. I was hoping there'd be more bread or something unique to it, but don't get me wrong, it was good. Juicy, lightly seasoned and fried. I didn't order any of the sides, but the creamed spinach and Mac N Cheese looked delicious. The chicken is at least, very cheap at $1 a wing. I ordered two smoothies ($6 each) and frowned when I saw they were using OJ (not oranges). They were both filling (Peachy Keen, with peaches, yogurt, oranges, bananas) and Rainbow Symphony (Pineapple, Honeydew, OJ and then some) but at $6, you could get this cheaper in NYC. My bf bought a Thanksgiving Turkey Sandwich, which he liked because they carved and baked their own turkey. This was quite big, and standard. $7 ish Service is nice and you could grab lots of other grocery-like items here.

olga w.

Yelp
Found this market while vacationing in Montauk. I was happy to find my favorite Berkshire pork chops, and bone-in rib eyes at the butcher counter. Yes, it's expensive, but the quality can't be beat.

Joe L.

Yelp
Herb's is a small, independent market on the main drag in Montauk. You can find a lot of stuff there, just not necessarily the depth or variety that you'll find at the IGA down the street. They have a full service deli, decent beer and beverage selection, dairy products, dry goods, etc. It's a perfectly serviceable and convenient general store. The real reason you will come to Herb's is for the fried chicken, though. They have a very modest looking food prep and fry area, but do not judge this book by its cover! Their chicken is some of the best I've had anywhere ever, let alone just Montauk. The batter isn't too thick, it's very flavorful with just the right amount of spices, and always so tender and succulent. Try hitting them up late morning or just around noon for your best shot, as it tends to sell out quickly. Most days, it gets snatched up as soon as they put it out and they don't have it all day long. Once it's gone, you have to wait until the following day, which is a serious buzz kill. One of the most tragic moments I ever witnessed was around lunch time at Herb's. The line to pay, which can be slow, was very long. A young woman had just picked up two enormous portions of chicken in those quasi-metallic insulated takeout bags and the stuff had just come out. The combination of high heat and girth of the portion caused the seam to give out on one of them and the entire bag of chicken fell all over the floor in a sad, sprawling mess. In her frantic attempt to catch it, she also dropped the second bag, which busted open upon impact when it hit the floor, sending even more chicken flying everywhere. The collective gasp from everyone in line was similar to what you might hear when a wide receiver gets blindsided by a cornerback and dropped to the ground like a stone. "Oooohhhhh!!" If/when you finally make it to Herb's to try the chicken, don't be that woman.

Eric W.

Yelp
In a word: FriedChicken. I can't walk back to the beach from town without stopping in for at LEAST a drumstick to munch on for the 2 block walk.

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
Try the Mayflower -- it's Thanksgiving in a sandwich. Turkey, stuffing and all the fixings on a sub that fed me for lunch and dinner, only $7. It's the perfect feast before heading out of town to face the inevitable traffic.... at least I was less cranky with a full tummy!

Noah R.

Yelp
The good--awesome sandwiches, great butcher, very nice meats and produce. Perfect location. The bad----EXTREMELY long waits around lunch(11-2). Order ahead of you can get through. The sandwiches are worth the wait....just eat a bag of chips while waiting.

Emily H.

Yelp
Herbs fried chicken is a Montauk staple, don't visit without trying it. The sandwiches and potato salad are also worth a taste, and the prices aren't outragious like most places out here. Order your chicken in advance, bring it to a beach BBQ and you'll be the hit of your family. If fried chicken isn't your thing, breakfast sandwiches before 11 are basic but filling. The European is tasty (brie and apple) and if you like spicy, try the Buffalo.

Ashley S.

Yelp
The people that work behind the deli really take forever to make sandwiches and act like your inconveniencing them when you ask for your sandwich. It takes forever here to get lunch and you end up leaving upset because the staff was rude to you for no reason.

Yelp
I love Herb's Market and come here every time I head out to Montauk. First, they have some of the best coffee around. No need to grab your morning java anywhere else. Also, take a pound home, it will taste just as good. I tried the fried chicken for the first time today and was very happy. The pieces were large with a lot of meat on it. My only complaint is that they were a bit salty but nothing that ruined the dish. I loved it and would get it again. The individuals that works there are so friendly and nice. Their fruit and veggies are always fresh and they make great subs. Overall, you have to head over here and get some eating done!

Cyndee T.

Yelp
Grabbed two very large heros here for dinner. Both were made to order with the cheese and condiments of our choice. My husband had the American and it was filled with tons of meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato. There was so much there that he couldn't eat all of it, which never happens. I ate half of mine and saved the rest for tomorrow. Delicious!

Barbara V.

Yelp
If it wasn't for the fried chicken I probably would never step foot in this place. Yesterday was the last time I will ever go in there for anything. The manager should be fired and the help should wake up and start helping the customers that are waiting at the counter to order. 4 people before me left and walked out because of the slow service. The manager is rude and doesn't take responsibility for not being prepared to serve people. He is rude to his customers and doesn't care that people walk out because they don't have an hour to wait for a simple sandwich to be made. You would think that the fried chicken would be readily available especially at lunch time. It might be time for the owner to take a close look at what is really going on in his store. I am done with this place. No one has time to be treated the way these people treat their customers. There are plenty of other food places to have lunch at.

John K.

Yelp
A good place to stock up; but be prepared for the Montauk prices. A small box of triscuits will run you almost $7.00. They have all of the fixins' for a picnic and a strong selection of munchies for the backyard relax. The only reason they're not getting more stars is the checkout staff (but they seem older, so perhaps an owner? I don't know. (sorry)), but I always feel like a burden when I check out. Not a smile, a nod, nothing. Just a seemingly bitter demeanor that seems to want to be somewhere (anywhere!) else. I little bit of a buzzkill.

Yelp
WE got the 2 dollar breakfast egg sandwiches. They were pretty small but for 2 bucks they were just right and who needs food coma that early in the morning anyways??..... Their fruit smoothies are actually really good and i highly suggest getting those to anyone. Didn't get to try their fried chicken but hopefully next time......

Yelp
Gross! The food is awful and would never spend another dollar here. Good drenched in dressing, zero flavor or sense of quality.

Yelp
The best fried chicken I have ever had, PERIOD. Grab a bag of chicken, Herbs awesome homemade potato salad and head to the beach for the sunset and its the perfect evening.

Yelp
Yelled at my grandmother because she was upset they sold our chicken we ordered ahead of time. I just don't understand what type of people employ horrendous service like that. People love their chicken but unless you're prepared for a worse than "dicks last resort" type of cruel service, skip it. Consistently one of the worst places service-wise in Montauk.

Yelp
Thanks to other Yelpers, I stopped by for fried chicken before heading to the beach. The long lines inside and the smell of grease was a bit discerning and the empty fried chicken bin was worse. Came back around a few minutes later and I see a women with a big bowl dump out dozens of pieces of freshly made fried chicken. Got 10 pcs, chips, drinks, and fruit for the beach. The family was very happy - chix was tender, tasty, cripy. WOW. Herb's is a MUST for Montauk! Quite a great moment - hubby, kids and I under a rickety umbrella under the beach and peace & quiet while everyone eats. Thank you Herb's Market for making a memorable event on our vacation.
