Herdade dos Grous

"A good option for discovering the essence of the Alentejo, given its location on a charming quinta surrounded by trees and vineyards (it also has two dozen guestrooms), with access via a private road that is well signposted from the village. Here, the focus is on traditional cooking with plenty of personality thanks to the use of organic ingredients grown on the estate or from meat from its own livestock (Alentejo veal, merino lamb, Iberian pork etc). A choice of wine-tasting options is also available, ranging from three wines on the Basic package to six, including tapas, for those booking the Flight pairing." - Michelin Inspector

I stayed for 3 days 2 nights. I have to say that everything was perfect!! We had a room with a fire place even thought my husband and I came in winter had been awesome the all time. Service, room service, breakfast, dinner was TOP!! Here also u can do the biking and sauna🤩.. we also done the wine tasting with tapas, really good, wines and everything are perfect, my husband and I are so happy with everything.. many animals too, horses, dogs, ostrich, black pig, sheeps, goats, ducks, birds, etc. It’s a place for being calm and enjoy the nature , loved it!!!

Nice queit countryside retreat, owned by the Vila Vita chain, the dinner was just okay it didn't blow us away. The waiters are polite but for a hotel of this standard they seemed a little inexperienced and at times confused when we were ordering.

Stopped between evora and Algarve for a special lunch.|Don’t bother.|The restaurant was cafeteria in feel especially with families and kids. Noise accentuated by the tile floors and large open room.|The winery was not open for tours or tastings and the bar area had dirty tables and no bartender.|The grounds where we (were allowed to) walk were meh.|The food was good. Ordered the black pork which was cooked nicely. Came will grilled Vegs and French fries. Certainly not fine dining but perfectly acceptable.

We stayed at another hotel, but we drove here for dinner one evening. The service was spectacular, as was the food. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening, and all of the items that were recommended by our server. We even came back the next day to buy olive oil and wine from the wine shop. The ambiance is a little more family-friendly than couples/romantic, but that was ok for us.

We stopped here on the drive from Evora to the Algarve for lunch. I'm not finished eating, but I wanted to write this review before continuing our drive and potentially forgetting to post. The food here is absolutely phenomenal. We found it on the way and are so happy we did. We didn't stay the night, but would definitely spend more time here if we could. The whole area is beautiful.

Very nice and relaxing estate. Because the guests are spread in many buildings, the place is very peaceful. The buildings, rooms and landscape are very clean and well maintained. It has lots of free activities on site. Good breakfast. Great place to escape for a romantic getaway. We booked there because we knew their wine and love it, so experienced the wine tasting. We do recommend it if you have never tried their wine, although a bit pricy. We also tried the restaurant for dinner and it is good, but nothing special.

No arguments this is one of the most beautiful locations in Portugal! Surrounded by vines, olive and eucalyptus trees it really is a countryside paradise. Unfortunately the service doesn’t match up to the spectacular location. The friendly Alentejanos are not apparent here and they apparently don’t care too much about the customer experience. I ordered a steak medium well - it was completely raw in the middle and bled all over the plate, the waitress arrived and took it away merely asking if I wanted dessert. Not the expectation of a 5 star hotel. Similarly at lunch I spent over 30 mins waiting for the bill - after asking for it 3 times. Not great.||That said - the wine tasting experience was terrific with Guillerme who is an absolute asset to the winery - very knowledgeable and highly entertaining - well worth doing the tour and tasting. An ok experience which could have been amazing had the service matched the location.

My husband and I spent 3 weeks in Portugal. We were fortunate to have made advance reservations and spent a fabulous night at Herdade dos Grous. The property is gorgeous with a vineyard, horseback riding, a lake for canoeing and views, views views! It was a little off the beaten path and is made for peace, quiet and relaxation. The room was gorgeous. In the USA, a room like this would easily be $600 per night. It was considerably less. We had a tour of the winery. We partook in the full flight wine tasting. The wines, meat and cheese boards were delicious. So much so, it spoiled our appetite and had to eat a light dinner; which by the way was wonderful. We had olives, olive oil soaked, baked and salted bread (unbelievable!) and pork with asparagus rice. The menu looked fabulous but we just couldn’t pack any more food into us! Breakfast was a nice buffet with nuts, cereals, meats, cheeses, fruits, eggs, pastries, coffees and freshly squeezed juices. |The room was lovely that opened out to a terrace that overlooked the grand grounds. The beds were comfortable, the terry cloth robes luxurious and the bathroom large and beautiful. I cannot say enough about Herdade dos Grous. I would love to return!
