The 38 Essential Restaurants in Detroit

"Eater Award-winning taquera Diana Gomez made 2023 the year of norteño Mexican in Detroit with the El Paso-style brisket she sells out of her Tacos Hernandez food truck. The brilliantly painted truck regularly rotates its location so Detroiters can enjoy Gomez’s brisket, house-made flour tortillas — northern Mexican-style — and vegan-friendly options across the city. Among its regular stops are the East Warren Farmers Market, Craig’s Coffee (where it serves breakfast burritos filled with brisket or white oyster mushrooms, potatoes, eggs, and green chiles), and the Schvitz." - Serena Maria Daniels

Told my wife I would accompany her to the Gilmore Girls event ONLY because I wanted Hernandez Mexican Food. I hadn't been to the restaurant yet. Loved it! Soooooo good.

Stopped in for lunch on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. This is a very small restaurant, but the food has big flavor. We both ordered wet burritos, I had chicken and he had chicken and pork. The food was delicious but the hot sauce was a little too spicy for me. I would order it on the side for myself next time. The portions were good, we ate about half of our burritos and were stuffed. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions with a smile.

Awesome, awesome tacos! I would've took a picture but I ate them too quick. Highly recommend the citrus steak street tacos. Very friendly environment 👍 Will definitely be back soon!

Lesson learned, never again. If people are okay paying almost $10 for what is " a super burrito " then you can go right ahead. That super burrito is a little larger than a basic taco. No steak options, just ground beef, basic crap that you see at every other Mexican restaurant that pops up around Lapeer. Never again. The only thing authentic about this place is the accent of a single worker there.

I recently ordered carry out and the food was excellent! Staff was friendly and shared interesting facts about the handed down recipes that they prepare. I highly recommend having dinner there or even ordering carryout.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch today had a wet burrito with chips and guacamole, and the wife had chicken tacos. Very good. Would recommend anybody to stop and try. They usually have a food truck in Lapeer Dayz now you can get them anytime of the year....

Yelp
Food is phenomenal - ground beef and hot sauce are a must. Family run and it really seems like they care.

Yelp
This is the worst excuse for Mexican food ever. No spices bland and nothing good about the food at all. The salsa looked and tasted like they put a can of tomato paste in a bowl. No seasoning or cilantro in any of the food. The refried beans was bland and tasted old. Nothing was home made and the taco shells and chips were store bought. Never go here if you want Mexican food. We threw our food in the trash after 3 bites. What a waste.
