"The location of Hero Coffee Bar in the former Belly Shack space under the CTA Western Blue Line stop at 1912 N. Western Avenue is shuttered and has a “for rent” sign in the window. The local chain took over the space in January 2017 and its other locations remain open." - Daniel Gerzina

So far, I've only tried one of their pour overs, and it was pretty good! Overall interior is understated, but has a general modern industrial vibe. I don't think I would ever elect to spend an afternoon chilling here, but it's definitely a good spot to stop if you need a quick pick me up and like neon signage.

3/17 update Sandwiches were tasty. They were out of the weekly side; they make the weekly side on Saturdays and when it runs out it's gone. They sell glazed and infused donuts (yum), too. ****** I've eaten here twice (to go orders). The coffee is good. The first time was during the soft opening. The food was great and quick. The second time was after the official opening. The food tasted overall good. But there were some issues. First the side of potato salad was poorly packaged and made it difficult to eat. Then in the first fork full, there was a piece of garbage that I pulled out of my mouth (can be seen in picture - silver thing). A third of the order of chips was raw. One sandwich was poorly wrapped and opened and fell apart into the bag as it was pulled out. And one sandwich was supposed to have fried egg (is delicious with a fried egg), today it has sliced hard boiled egg. There was no notification that the egg was a different style than advertised. Hopefully the issues on the second visit were opening bumps. I sent a message to hero, but haven't had a response. Update: received a response and am happy with the response. We plan on trying hero again soon and will update soon. Update: The issue was responded to. I haven't returned yet to try the food again, but I do plan to visit again soon.

Great atmosphere, wonderful music and friendly baristas! I love this place. I tried their pour over, cold brew, and Sunnyvale bagel! All amazing!!

I love the sandwiches & the coffee. I do not love the service. This place can get busy esp on a Sunday morning so be prepared to wait for over 10 minutes for your food. I came in this morning around 10 am & there was noone at the counter. After about a minute or so I yelled "Hello!" & someone finally came out. I'm willing to give a place the benefit of the doubt but it seems like they're going thru some growing pains with hirees. Hope they get their stuff together soon.

Quiet cafe under the tracks at the N. Western blue line el. Good food. Coffee is from Hero roastery in Roscoe Village. They've been experimenting with bourbon-barrel-aged coffee and the results are quite impressive.

Everything about all of the Hero Coffee Bars has been amazing. The one downtown was my favorite, but this one serves food also which is great. and its in a great spot right off the L.

Decent coffee and great for sandwiches. The vibe is just very weird. An homage to hip hop without the typical hip hip crowd....

Great coffee, I had a latte made perfectly. Could use some more comfortable seating
