"The spruce herrnschlösschen hotel, located in the old town, is home to a delightful little restaurant whose stylish modern interior design seamlessly incorporates the building's historical architectural features – the huge wooden beam dates back to 1526! There is a set menu bearing the name "INNOVATIVE KLASSIK By Sascha Bungeroth", which comprises five courses and includes a few added extras. Following stints at several top-flight establishments, here the chef takes his cue from the seasons, with dishes such as pickled Canadian scallops with sesame, horseradish and tonburi, or Franconian veal fillet tartare, burrata, olives and pine nuts. The charming waitstaff will recommend the perfect wine accompaniment. Fabulous terrace in the baroque garden!" - Michelin Inspector

"Housed in a charming hotel of the same name, the Herrnschlösschen serves gourmet cuisine in a historic dining room, complete with wooden beams dating back to 1526. Here, diners enjoy sophisticated dishes like carpaccio of smoked goose breast and braised veal with truffles, followed by elegant desserts such as pear-and-marzipan cake with raspberry sorbet and chocolate sauce. Also on offer is a solid wine list with plenty of German and French varietals, as well as a romantic garden that’s perfect for eating alfresco in fine weather. Additionally, there’s a private dining area in the cellar and a decent sister restaurant, Zur Höll, a couple blocks away in case the Herrnschlösschen is full."

We had a great experience at the Herrnschlosschen Hotel and Restaurant. From the moment we stepped inside we were greeted by Filip, who assisted us. We eventually met the entire staff and all of them were very pleasant. The hotel is amazing with history and charm. The location was the best with just steps from the center square. We enjoyed the 5 course Michillen Star dinner served by Filip and cooked by Sascha. We highly recommend the hotel and restaurant! Prost!

I stayed in the apartment that is connected to the hotel, but is down the street from it (which wasn't clear through Booking.com) and is a mild inconvenience, but it worked out fine. The private apartment more than made up for it -- sparkling clean, nice amenities, very comfortable bed, quality linens and towels. The included breakfast (in the hotel building) is lovely, an actual table service breakfast and the made-to-order food was fresh and delicious -- especially the eggs and bacon! The staff is kind and caretaking. There are nice bonuses included, such as a welcome drink, bottled water in the room and handmade truffles as a parting gift. I traveled around Germany for two weeks and this was the nicest hotel I stayed in. The hotel and apartment are both centrally located, right off the main square.

We had a wonderful stay, right in the middle of Rothenburg. This is not a run-of-the-mill standard chain hotel, it is locally owned and operated and their team works hard to offer the charm you'd hope for. Walkable to all parts of the old town. Breakfast is a la carte and wonderful. Car parking is either on street but have to replenish meter every 2 hours - -so hotel offers to valet it for you in a locked gated lot. This trip involved 8 different hotels and this stop was one of the best.

The hotel is beautiful, we stayed on the top floor and the room was spacious, well furnished and a lovely place to be.| |The hotel is located close to the town square and is equidistant from the castle gardens and the historic wall walk. ||The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly, breakfast has a great variety and we enjoyed everything we ordered. They are happy to provide you with recommendations and provide a great atmosphere. ||The whole town is quiet but if you don't mind hearing church bells then the hotel is very quiet and peaceful.

I am deeply disappointed by my experience at Hotel Herrnschlösschen. Prior to arrival, the hotel assured us that luggage assistance would be available. However, on the day of departure, no help was offered. This was especially distressing given that the property has no elevators—my friends and clients were forced to carry their luggage down 54 steps without support.||I was under the impression that this was a 4-star property. In reality, there is no front office presence, and after dark, the hotel is completely empty of staff. When we asked to speak with a manager, we were informed that the hotel was currently without one and that no one would be available until the following day.||Only two kind ladies offered help during our stay. One of them—a young woman who could barely carry her own weight—tried to assist despite visibly struggling. She was already busy attending to guests at breakfast and clearly unable to lift the luggage. It was painful to witness, and it underscored the absence of proper staffing and support. No guest should be placed in a position where help comes from someone who herself is unsupported.|The hotel’s written response to our complaint was equally disappointing. Rather than acknowledging the issue, they deflected responsibility and suggested that guests had declined help—help that was never offered. This reply showed not only a lack of professionalism, but a troubling absence of empathy toward both guests and their own female staff.||With all of the above mentioned and explained, I must say that I consider the town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber overrated. It is a pity—such a beautiful place, rich in history and architectural charm, yet lacking the hospitality, care, and professionalism that travelers deserve.||I am sharing this experience not out of bitterness, but out of responsibility. I do not want anyone—client, friend, or fellow traveler—to go through what we endured. Hospitality is not just about beauty or history; it is about care, presence, and honoring the guest.||We will not return—not under these circumstances.

Stayed a there a night and wished it was longer. Had a delightful senior suite with plenty of space and charm. Great bathroom, comfortable bed, and quiet! The hotel is in a great perfect location — close to the action but removed enough to be peaceful. The staff were legit and incredibly helpful. Four Seasons quality service! Check-in was a breeze, breakfast was delicious and generous, and the overall experience a 10!

We have stayed a group of 12 friends in this gem hotel! It was the weekend of the medieval fair and the hotel was just in the front row of everything! The hotel is a small boutique hotel beautifully decorated, cozy rooms and very nice bathrooms! It is a MUST to stay here if you go to Rothenbourg. It has a beautiful garden in the back so private and dinner was magnificent! Breakfast is a la carte very, very good! A special mention to Philip, a one man show, and all his team! And the medieval fair is worth visiting. EXTRAORDINARY!!! Best choice we could have made!! Thanks Herrnschlösschen hotel!

We enjoyed our stay in this rustic hotel, which is in a great location and had a 'family run' atmosphere. There is no lift, which wasn't an issue for us. The staff were all helpful and friendly - giving advise on eateries (if you want to eat at the german restaurants, best to make reservations) and tours (the Night Watchman is a great, entertaining way to spend an hour). The room was comfortable with a supply of mini bar drinks (many thanks). We tried the sauna and (even though there was a fee to use) the facilities were kept private for our use only - a lovely relaxing area. The city walls are fantastic to walk around and if you have time, a walk into the valley is very scenic and worthwhile. A photo opportunity literally around every corner.
