Where to Eat and Drink During the Head of the Charles Regatta
"FALS Bar, which is short for Finish Area Launch Site, is open to the public without an entry fee this year. It’s located near the finish line and features different tents selling beer, wine, and canned cocktails. The concession stands also offer a selection of food options." - Valerie Li Stack
nice little clearing near the river. Good amount of space for food trucks along with a nice section for seating that’s under trees in the shade. Overall a cute little place to watch local musicians

Lovely outdoor performance space. Buggy at night, but that's to be expected.

Best kept secret for up close and personal performances. Sun sets off to the side of the stage, just beyond the trees. Short stroll to watch it over the Charles. Can't wait for the 2023 schedule to come out.

Free shows to help provide a sense of community. Also good opportunity for volunteering with "Friends of Herter Park". (No bureaucratic hoops to jump through to start volunteering). Events include anything from open mic sessions to professional performances.

Yelp
Came here for kayaking. Brought own kayak. There are several places to launch kayaks.
Also you can rent kayak or canoe here.
Plenty of benches and parking.
Con: lots of poops from dogs and/or birds on the grass. Don't want to lay down there.

Yelp
Continuing along the Esplanade to Allston/Brighton you'll come to this sweet green whose gorgeous grounds offer playgrounds, boating, a public theater and even community gardens!
I'm sure the path is scenic and pleasant from downtown, but I wouldn't know because let's be honest, the loop is 18 miles. Think I've ever bladed it all? Right.
So while it's a ways out and not super easy to reach by public transit, the parking lot is huge and attractions abundant.

Yelp
The park is great... love the scenery and the play areas...
The pool areas are super cute and the only ones in the area that have fun spouts (one is being built right now and looks like little row boats for littler kids)... The pool was absolutely packed though... so be prepared for insaneness...
The amenities, pools, etc. are all free and the place has real bathrooms.

Yelp
Love this spot!! It's just a giant river
Park with parking and benches, etc.
I used to live near this "park" for years and would run thru there nearly everyday. I never knew the name until recently; I always called it "Brighton Beach". It's best on weekdays when you'll be all by yourself. Spring has lots of nice blooms. You can also get away will using a BBQ grill (gotta bring your own) I believe it's illegal but there are grill sessions by the parking lots every weekend in the spring/summer/fall and no one seems to be the enforcer..
Renting a kayak here and going on the Charles River is one of the classiest ways to see the city - it's cheap and fun!! Do it!
