"Roger van Damme’s reputation for stellar desserts needs no introduction and this is the place to sample his creations from a truly wicked dame blanche (vanilla ice cream and hot chocolate) to a mille-feuille vanilla slice to die for! But the pastry chef is also a wizard savoury chef, as a trip to his modern “gingerbread house” near Stadsschouwburg will convince you. Following a swish revamp, Het Gebaar sports a luxurious, yet casual vibe. Van Damme’s attention to detail is visible at every stage of your meal and nothing leaves the kitchen that hasn’t been puzzled over and preened to perfection. His distinctive, supremely elegant recipes celebrate familiar flavours, albeit with a creative twist. His talent for traditional dishes such as Beef Wellington is second to none thanks to his consummate pastry skills. Nice and cozy atmosphere, delicious small dishes, with delicious flavours. The lunch menu offers a diversity of small dishes, pairing nicely together. Would have loved a glass of wine together with the meal, unfortunately only the bottle option was available.

Nice lunchtime restaurant in a park in the centre of Antwerp. It may have a Michelin star but it is a very relaxed restaurant. The service is a little inattentive and slow, the restaurant is small with oversized tables making it feel a squeezed (we were wedged between two larger tables which made me feel a little uncomfortable). I'm not sure the food is considered fine dining because the starter was a panini (although nice). I had a very nice steak and the amount of work that went into the vegetables was apparent but I felt that it was more of a statement from the chef rather than an enhancement to the dish. The deserts were very impressive but at around 25 Euro each were very expensive and a little overpriced. I enjoyed the food and experience but if I came here again I would sit on the outside terrace with a light lunch and a bottle of wine rather than eating in the restaurant.

Our 3rd time at the restaurant and it remains amazing! Food and wine are delicious and of course everything is beautiful. Staff is also also attentive and helpful. Highly recommended!

Amazing combination of the goose liver with steak which also had various combination of veg finely placed around it like an art work. However a little high on price but everything are worth it

You must try the Collector dessert box because it gives you 3 of Van Dammen’s signature dishes in one. The level of details and the combination of flavor and texture is mind blowing. Hands down the best dessert I have had. They even give you a little booklet detailing the recipes for the 3 dessert components.

Very good place. extraordinary food. I went for the birthdays for my wife. They even think about this. Very easy to take a reservation (on internet). I recommand.

Amazing experience! Simple but beautiful restaurant in the botanical garden. The waiters are really professional and friendly. The food is excellent and the portions very big so I didn't finish the dessert.

This was undoubtedly was the best dessert meal that I've every had in my life! The uniqueness & creativity of the small food potions were one thing but the desserts were in a league all their own! The flavour, the profile & sheer masterpieces of chocolate that was delivered to the table was beyond descriptions! Hand prepared by one of the top pastry chefs in the World! The individual pastries we not only tasty but a wonder to view! A Michelin 3-Star is well deserved for this Antwerp Restaurant!

I don't think it can get much better than Het Gebaar. Best lunch and in my top five meals I've ever had. Soooo delicious! Order the steak tartare! So many flavors and textures! The foie gras paired with the hand cut tartare was just melting in my mouth. Every dish is beautifully presented. It was almost a shame to eat it - almost. I also recommend taking the wine pairings - all of them! Every item on the menu has a wine pairing listed. And the desserts not only have a suggested wine, but also coffee or tea! I will definitely be back soon!! I'm still dreaming of that steak tartare!!!

Het Gebaar is simply DIVINE! Don't miss this exquisite gem! One of our favorite special occasion places to dine in Antwerp! We've been twice. Had lunch on the terrace in the spring, and a sumptous lunch inside in the fall. The food is breathtakingly prepared and presented! Roger had the Steak Tartare and I had the most fantastic "Chicken Salade" on earth. Our hearts and tastebuds forever remain on the white tablecloths at Het Gebaar! WE LIVE to return to Het Gebaar!

Impeccably presented, totally beautiful and utterly delicious molecular cooking. It isn't cheap, but is great value. You'll get tremendous service and top draw food and wine. Cannot recommend it enough, normally I'm a savoury person, but the deserts here are perfection.

Be assured Roger Van Damme is a top chef! The dishes are good, but some of them are over the top. When I order a dish, I want the attention to go to the main ingredient and I don't want to be overwhelmed by everything that's on top of it. I also hate it to find some lime or lemon zest on every single thing you are having.

The "Lunch Lounge" one of our all time best "stumble opon" secrets in all of our travels - anywhere. Very inventive, very well executed modern cuisine, presented in an artistic way in a quaint littlwe "mansion" in a garden on Leopoldstraat. Just beware as they close at 6pm (no dinner), they are also closed Sundays and Mondays as well as most of August. You will NOT be dissapointed if you can find the time to drop in. The garden belonging to the university is also worth checking out.
