"Situated on the northeastern corner of the Warehouse Market building, Hexenbelle is an expression of owner Christian Geoghegan’s Arab background. The Palestinian-inspired café and coffee shop serves breakfast and lunch — where dishes like shakshuka and hummus shine. Be sure to call ahead to double check each day’s hours, which can vary in the moment." - Stacey Brugeman

"Hexenbelle’s breakfast and lunch menus are rooted in owner Christian Geoghegan’s Palestinian heritage. Highlights include the breakfast pita with fried spiced potatoes and smashed eggs in chipotle sauce, alongside crunchy cabbage, and a peanut butter tahini cookie for dessert."

Google
the food and coffee are crazy good here!!! can't recommend it enough and im sad i was only visiting and can't come here more often there weren't any baked goods today which isn't a big deal but I did want to try some of their donuts or cookies I saw from pictures... just another excuse to come back I think I got the shakshuka & dark forest latte, both were wonderful with a nice warmly spiced and slightly spicy base and perfect runny & jammy egg and an earthy and floral latte to wash it down 👌 my partner got a pita with egg salad & potatoes and a mocha, the texture and taste on that mocha is gorgeous, perfect microfoam and very deep chocolate notes, and the potatoes in that pita were INSANE, I need to try remaking it at home the atmosphere was very welcoming, and I liked the open kitchen and many MANY books lining shelves all around

Google
Delicious balanced latte and warm, savory, and flavorful Palestinian rice bowl 🤍 This was just what I needed today! It was artisan level quality yet cozy and sunny environment. The staff is kind too. Thank you all! I will be back and bring others to enjoy the phenomenal food and coffee with.

My wife and I were looking for a taste of home while we were away on honeymoon. We decided to come by Hexenbelle for its food and drink. We not only found the familiar flavors of fresh bread, savory olive, and creamy labneh, but we found a warmth from the surrounding atmosphere and staff. We were immersed in light toned woods, lush green plants, and ample sunlight, as if we were relaxing in a sunroom or a garden. We had an opportunity to speak to the owner, Chris, who welcomed us and gave us his attention despite also running the kitchen. Chris has been doing a great service to bring hearts and minds together for peace, prosperity, and freedom, both within Traverse City and for the Palestinian people. His love and passion shows in every dish he crafts, and we are forever grateful for the warmth, friendship, and hospitality that he extended us. Hexenbelle is truly a rare and valuable gem amongst the many cafes and eateries in the area. I believe Hexenbelle is the best and only choice for authentic Palestinian cuisine and hospitality in Traverse City. Dishes tried: -Shakshouka -Foul Muddamas -Bayd bil Labneh -Hummus and Pita -Palestinian Rice Bowl -Coconut Curry Fried Rice Drinks tried: -Damascus Gate -Mocha -Bee Change

Google
Really excellent beverages, food, service, and atmosphere. It's so nice to be able to order something unique (like a latte flavored with rose, black cardamom, clove, and saffron! or a coconut milk granola bowl!) than the standard set of options you can get at any old cafe. Such a gem for the community.

Google
Yallah FLOCK to this place. My friends, family, and I are always seeking Palestinian owned spots to support when we travel and were thrilled to find this bright and beautiful space. The iced coffee with their house made Damascus Gate syrup was lovely. We snacked on their roasted hummus, which were wonderful as well. SO happy to have this place as an inclusive option for us in the (mostly) white up north.

Google
Very fun drink menu. Hoping to come back to try the food next time I am in the area. Very friendly staff and cute interior. Highly recommend ❤️

Google
Great coffee, very kind owner and staff, and the hummus was so, so tasty and unique. My husband enjoyed the house-made Damascus syrup in the latte he ordered.

Google
I can’t describe how the food is good, you should come and try it. Well done , with nice spin from the Chef Service is great, nice ambience I truly recommend this place, it is a must when you’re in Traverse City

Yelp
Tripped across Hexenbelle by happenstance and are SO glad we found them. They are located in the warehouse district in a beautiful light-filled space with both indoor and outdoor seating. Hubby said he had the best matcha latte of his life and you can see the chef and his crew preparing your dish from the open kitchen. The food is UNBELIEVABLY good; we had the shakshuka which they were able to make gluten-free for me by omission of the pita. And the curry bowl was a delicious flavor bomb. For the win, their menu is clearly denoted for vegetarian and gluten-free. We Hexenbelle!!!!

Yelp
During this summer I went to Traverse City for work purposes and had a day I didn't have any meetings or events to attend, so I decided to look for a cute cafe to work in that would have a good brunch menu. Hexenbelle is a family owned business, with a Palestinian touch as the owner has heritage. It's very bright and cozy, the service is great, you can see in the open kitchen as they interact there. You can tell they're a good family :) I ordered the house made chai with oatmilk and shakshuka. Unfortunately because I'm GF they just gave it to me like that without an option of something GF friendly to replace the pita bread. The food was delicious but because the tomato is strong on its own, I wish I had a Gf friendly carb to go along with it. WiFi was a bit spotty to be honest so that is why I could not stay as long as I wanted to, but it was very lovely. It would be cool if they had stickers of their business, I bet it would be so cute! If you go to TC, I recommend coming here!

Yelp
2 stars for the Baker I like to start off positive by saying whoever the sweet baker is does fantastic work and makes such wonderful donuts and treats. This is the only reason I spend $3 here and because I work 6 weeks out of the year in the neighborhood. For the last 3 years I've walked into this cafe and every year the owner has been less than kind to me for some reason! I have never treated his staff rudely even though last year I was treated rudely by a staff and again the owner because I asked a when the baker would be back (it had been now the third week without baked goods) and I genuinely wanted to know! This year has been no different. The staff has not been rude (yet) however the owner is less than friendly to me (as years past) and he's clearly friendly to others in my presence (super chatty kind to a gentleman in line behind me, but not to me - ever). Maybe this year he finds my questioning facial expression his reason to dislike me (again) this year. He has a large sign up that says, "Cease Fire. Free Palestinians NOW!" Me, mulling over my own contained wondering questions about the obvious bold stated sign, (why else do you make signs and put them up for all to see), does not call for an irritated dead eye stare at me or anyone for that matter! Or the short condescending remarks the owner says under his breathe (some of us can hear you clearly, Sir). So, the feel of this cafe and it's ambiance feels to me like a facade and hypocritical. I know there are others who have had similar experiences here as well. I just want those fresh damn donuts the baker makes! If I only knew if this sweet baker made her treats anywhere else, I would go there.

Yelp
I tried Hexenbelle based on a recommendation from a friend while I was in town for work. Right off the bat I love the interior, as well as the lovely outdoor patio seating. I had an iced latte and the breakfast pita, which was so yummy and filling. I liked this place so much I went back the next day! I tried the Palestinian rice bowl, which was amazing but I wish had a bit more protein. I'd asked to add falafel to it and was told I couldn't - would love that option in the future! Otherwise loved this cafe and would definitely return next time.

Elsa E.

Yelp
5 stars for food and nice staff. Loved the vibe. The good we had was delicious (foul and falafel). Coffee was great. I have an egg sensitivity but if I didn't, I would have tried the egg sandwich or Labneh bc they both looked delicious. Some of the best pita bread and falafel I've had in my life. PSA: If you have highchair aged kiddos-this will be a tough one for you to dine in. They do not have them. We made it work but it was rough.

Annie A.

Yelp
Really cute coffee shop downtown traverse! I got the strawberry matcha drink and it was everything I wanted on a summer day. It was sweet & light, tasted a little like strawberry milk. Service was a tad slow but they were busy. There is some seating inside as well as a shaded outdoor area with tables and chairs. The place is decorated beautifully and has a really good vibe. It is a little on the pricey side as well. We were looking for breakfast as well, but they didn't have standard egg sandwiches, but some middle eastern breakfast dishes that we were not adventurous enough to try.

Saif K.

Yelp
Nice friendly little cafe with Hippie and Free Palestine vibes. Open kitchen and you can taste the small batch and fresh preparations. Very cool friendly and most importantly very delicious and fresh!!!

Marin C.

Yelp
Very planty, admirable as I have a black thumb. My appetizer was tasty. Ordered hummus and pita, pita triangles were pleasingly salty. I ordered a coffee drink, too. Latte w/ Damascus blend syrup (cardamom, clove etc etc). Highly recommend, heads up they close at 3pm.

TOM W.

Yelp
Curry fried rice is excellent and my wife's favorite dish ( there and among other entrees in Traverse City). Usually a to go order but that usually excellent.

Jiamin A.

Yelp
Love this little place inside the Warehouse district! Very vegetarian friendly. You order at the counter and they give you a little stand and will bring you your food. Sometimes a bit of wait but it's worth it!

Gus M.

Yelp
I was about to put 4 stars because the food took a really long time but both plates were better than expected. The latte was the best I've found in Traverse City so far, not to say there aren't close seconds but really good. All in all absolutely incredible. Will be back, highly recommend.

Shannon L.

Yelp
Such a cute little spot for any meal of the day, great outdoor seating, and exceptionally fresh and flavorful food. The beet plate and matcha latte were beautiful and delicious!

Anna T.

Yelp
Love the staff. Love the espresso. Love the food. Love the decor. My only qualm is lack of wi-fi but that's only an issue if you're trying to stay and work

Stavroula K.

Yelp
Great coffee drinks. Great food. Probably the best pita bread I've ever had. My husband loves the breakfast pita and I love the bayd bil labneh.

Mitchell M.

Yelp
Fantastic vegan donuts! Coffee is good as well :) Really enjoyed the vibe here - walked in to some music that I enjoy and the kitchen staff was dancing and having a fun time (the kitchen is fully visible which is funky, but kinda fun) If I lived in traverse city I could see myself being a regular here

Kelsey C.

Yelp
I ordered a drink here two years ago that's no longer on the menu, and when I came back today, they were happy to make it for me. I am so grateful because I've thought about this drink every day for the last two years, haha. May or may not have even planned our vacation to traverse city specifically for this drink ;). Management, if you're reading this, your strawberry mocha is phenomenal! Thanks for making my dreams come true.

Paul M.

Yelp
Honest vegetarian fair! The dishes are built around plants from the start. They don't make bad imitations of carnivore fare. NO FAKE MEAT. NO FAKE CHEESE. (Yay!!!) Most dishes are middle eastern, but not standard Lebanese. It might be Turkish or Persian. Some dishes seem to be inspired by East and Southeast Asian cuisine. I ordered the Zahra Pita, and hummus and pita to share. My companion ordered Mapo Tofu. The Zahra Pita was delicious. Fried cauliflower, picked turnips, and a nice sauce served in a fresh pita. The hummus was also very nice. Definitely not the Lebanese style hummus that you get in Detroit area. This one was flavored with Za'atar. The Mapo Tofu might be derived from a Chinese dish. It was too salty for my companion. I have an incredibly high salt tolerance, so it was OK for me, but I can handle many things that are too salty for others.

Emily G.

Yelp
Coffee was great and staff was friendly! Didn't have a chance to try the food, but it smelled so delicious I'm excited to come back!

Hannah C.

Yelp
Lovely ambiance, great books to peruse on the little bookshelf (some of my favorites, whoever's collection it is has taste) great service. I ordered the Palestinian Bowl & a chai latte and both were very tasty.

Irman I.

Yelp
Great food and service! Every time we go up north we make sure to stop to this place, food is delicious clean and fresh.

Jacob R.

Yelp
Best Arab food in town... best food in town! I love making my stops there and always like to get one of their seasonal drinks. Superb shakshuka, fried chickpeas, pita and hummus, and Coconut Curry Fried Rice! like there honestly is nothing that can go wrong! kind people and a really cool space too.

Gabriel M.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere, stellar artwork, coffee, and food. The service has been perfect every time I've been here, and there are some nice books to read. The Palestinian dishes are ridiculously tasty here too!

Nicole R.

Yelp
I'm not quite sure why the reviews for this place are not higher! Aesthetically, I felt like I was in a very hip brunch spot in California. The patio is a very decent size and I love that the inside has a very boho / plant loving / natural vibe also. I was very satisfied with the food here! I felt the menu had some unique Mediterranean influences and the pop tart esque pastry was very delicious. The lattes and the dessert options I feel are the stand outs here but you can't go wrong with anything you order! The owner also supports local farms near traverse city which I felt was a nice touch!

Sophie K.

Yelp
Yogurt Parfait, Hummus & Pita. The parfait was unique and delicious. The pita was pillowy and soft. I don't live nearby, but next time I visit I will definitely eat here again.

Karen W.

Yelp
This is right out the back door (east) of the Indigo Hotel in a funky, formerly industrial area. They serve great coffee, pastries and middle eastern breakfast bowls. Their menu is unique and all the items we tried were delicious!

Mark W.

Yelp
Update that I received an email from the "owner" after contacting through website. Unfortunately, it did not impact my feeling about their service, but at least I know it is learned or maybe taught behavior. Have been here twice. First experience was good, but definitely on the high side which is fine with great service...that's the problem with the second visit! I went in earlier this morning and was met with a lack of customer service that leaves me not wanting to return or recommend to others. This was only my second time in and I was excited to take my mother who is visiting from out of town. Sadly, we ended up leaving and eating elsewhere. Here is what happened: We parked and had no change. We waited in line. When I finally reached the counter, I asked if I could get change for the meter and was told simply "no" then I asked "really" and was told "nope". At this point we decided our business wasn't valued and left. Maybe the $30 - $40 (including tip) isn't needed? As a person who has worked in retail, sales and service my entire life I feel it is offensive to be dismissed without even a small attempt at a solution. I have emailed them and will await a reply to see whether this is a one off or if i will simply disregard this as an option for me or anyone els who asks for reccomended local spots. My first 1 star ever on Yelp fyi...yes, service matters!!!

Ashlyn G.

Yelp
If you are vegan & hu... look no further!!! Hexenbelle was the perfect lunch stop for us. Not only can you get a really good cup of coffee, but most of their dishes are vegan and are carefully curated. Our family shared the Maftoul, Mapo Tofu, & the Coconut Curried Fried Rice. They were all super delicious, the rice being our favorite dish. Definitely stop here if you get the chance.

Mandy A.

Yelp
I wish we went else were. There are to many coffee shops in the area to go to this one. The 2 workers were overwhelmed with our latte & cappuccino order. It took forever. We are the only ones here.

Gary W.

Yelp
The owner is one of the rudest people in the world. The restaurant is chaotic with the young servers having little chance of success. We were brought food for other tables twice, and my wife's meal came twenty minutes before I finally asked where mine was. That is a pretty big gap for a couple who came in together and wanted to eat together. I finally asked about it. The owner came over, accused me of causing a scene and being rude to the young waiter (I wasn't). He explained that it was a cafe, not a restaurant, and the food comes out when it comes out. Rather than apologize for the wait, he chastised me in front of other customers, made it a point to embarrass my wife in front of others as we left, telling those in line "we had some rude customers today," and made a point of banning me - again for an audience. I miss Blk Market, a simple enjoyable and kind coffee shop. My wife's ten dollar salad was very small, and so salty she couldn't eat it. We observed kitchen staff eating from plates, ungloved. Ordering was difficult, with no printed menu provided. The cinnamon pastry we ordered was good. The coffee was good. The salad was bad and my chick pea dish was nothing special. I see lots of good reviews about finally having a Mideast restaurant in Traverse City, but this isn't a great one. It's run poorly, with staff put under a lot of stress, and customer service by the owner is the rudest and most hostile I have ever encountered.

Chestnut S.

Yelp
11/10 This food is delicious and the atmosphere is equally great. A vegan & vegetarian godsend. The coconut curry fried rice literally had me craving more the whole next week. And their homemade chai is perfection for brusque late summer mornings.

Justin K.

Yelp
This place is absolutely fantastic. Their food options are absolutely superb. This town is seriously lacking in middle eastern flavor and I must say, this food brings me back to my time in the Middle East. Their Palestinian rice bowl is my new favorite thing and their Labneh is ON POINT. The flavors are vast and every bite leaves you wanting more. Their hummus is also probably the best in town. Not to mention, their coffee drinks are some of the best in town as well. Go there. You won't regret it.

Heather D.

Yelp
Good coffee and great atmosphere, the quintessential coffee shop And they had a bowl of water for our dog.

Aura K.

Yelp
We had been having a bad experience with Traverse City and it's eateries until we went to Hexenbelle for breakfast. Everything was delicious and we tried many things! All the food is vegetarian and absolutely scrumptious. The coffee is made to perfection! I had the Damascus gate and it was wonderful. The pictures on the site are true to what's prepared. The staff were friendly, but not overbearing. Helpful in making selections. I asked if they had fava beans in some of their offers and they were helpful in letting me know what to avoid. We were very pleased with everything and will definitely come back.

Rob P.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Great food, great lattes! Original and diverse menu, everything we had was incredible.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Service was great. Space was lovely. The food was so amazing and flavorful. Am dying to go back to TC to have it again.

Ellen B.

Yelp
Highly recommend. I got the coconut curry fried rice. My mom got the shakshuka. Both absolutely delicious! They make homemade pita. And homemade Chai tea. It tasted very similar to the masala chai I had in India. Love Hexenbelle.

Kemal T.

Yelp
We went here on a Saturday mid morning. The cafe was fairly crowded with lots of people so we had great expectations. We stood in line for 5 minutes then got to the cashier. The cashier told us we would have to wait to order. We thought that was strange but we waited patiently. 10 minutes went by and we asked, "when can we order?" The cashier then said that we would have to wait another 30 minutes. It seemed that they were only prioritizing online orders but failed to communicate how that would effect our wait time. We were extremely disappointed at the way we were treated - it felt we were being a nuisance by being there. My advice is go to Brew or any other cafe for that matter. Stay away from this place.

Marie S.

Yelp
The two girls working the cashier were rude. I asked for an iced coffee and asked if they had hazelnut syrup. They seemed annoyed I asked this and pointed to the menu and said these are our only syrups. I ended up getting the one she mentioned that wasn't listed. They put it in their recyclable bottle which is fine, but when I asked if I bring it back they were clearly annoyed as well. And she said well you paid the deposit so if you do we will refund you. Also, they clearly made no effort in adding the oat milk decently because my coffee is separated with oat milk particles immediately upon her handing it to me. In short, they weren't outright callous, however, I did not feel welcomed at all and it was clear they did not want to be there or serve me. Specifically the girl with the flower outline tattoo on her left upper forearm and a septum piercing. Really awful service for the price I paid.

Andrew K.

Yelp
Had a great experience here. The spices they use are incredibly tasty. Highly recommend the Damascus Gate (have not had anything like this elsewhere), the Chai, and their cold brew was tasty. The oatmeal pie is great (but be prepared for something super sweet), and we enjoyed their dishes. We ordered at the counter but everything was brought out to us and the service was good. Definitely recommend this place, a nice surprise! Particularly happy to take advantage of their outdoor seating.

Tracy J.

Yelp
Had a delicious Mid Summer Mocha, loved the vibe and the staff. Cannot wait to try some of their menu items.

Sherry O.

Yelp
Best darn coffee I've had in a while. My oat milk honey lavender latte was so smooth and yummy. I'd definitely make it a point to go back again next time we're in the area. Learned of this gem from a local.

Dan F.

Yelp
Great place for coffee and breakfast today. The quality was top notch and healthy. We shared the shashuka, granola cookie, and almond cake. Try the Damascus Gate coffee for something unique.

Ruka K.

Yelp
We're so glad we stumbled upon this super cute place. Food was really delicious and we loved all of the drinks we tried. I love that drinks come in jars that you can return- such a cute, clever way to make your business more sustainable. We had one very small mixup with our food and the owner and server were super gracious and went above and beyond to address it. We're visiting from out of town but we'll definitely swing by again to try out some of the really tasty sounding dishes. We'll be getting another Damascus Gate for sure, which was so good and one of the most interesting drinks I've had in a while.

Susan M.

Yelp
What a great place to gather! IMPACT100TC had an event today and loved this place. Great specialty coffee, breakfast cakes, warm puta with homemade hummus, etc. Hexenbelle has a neighborhood vibe that is very welcoming. Attractive indoor and outdoor spaces were nicely, naturally decorated and made for a pleasant atmosphere. The food, drinks and service exceeded expectations. Very clean and Covid conscious. A true gem in TC!

Jordan D.

Yelp
Exceptional. Coffee and food. The coffee -- regular drip is very high quality but the specialty drinks are the way to go. The food -- everything this is great with flavors that are a bit unusual but incredibly delicious. Go but there will be a line...because it's...exceptional.

Lucas T.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful experience. The coffee and food were so good we had to come back here the following day. The hummus was delicious. I loved that they had decaf options for their coffee. The outside seating area is perfect. Don't miss out on visiting Hexenbelle when you're in town.

Zeke D.

Yelp
Nice Mediterranean restaurant. Pleasant open atmosphere and nice staff. Had Palestinian rice dish and a good crispy coconut curry. Would come back!

Chris L.

Yelp
Great coffee menu and good food options, although more of a lunch menu (many Mediterranean inspired options) plus a variety of baked goods. Somehow I got my breakfast order (pita bread with cold egg) before my coffee order (black coffee). No written / physical menu. Not exactly clear what food is or is not available online. Some staff seemed a bit hostile ("this isn't Starbucks" - overheard). Could use a second entrance / exit as the doorway was crowded with people waiting to order. Overall, a good breakfast and coffee destination but I was made to feel a little on edge throughout the whole dining experience. Probably a great local option once your know the routine.

Dahlia L.

Yelp
Awesome food and rad, kind staff. We liked it so much we drove 40 minutes a few days later just to come back. Will definitely be back again next time I'm in the city!
