"Hey Mikey’s Ice Cream serves classic, homemade ice cream. The shop is conveniently just off The Strand, so you don’t have to skirt around as many confused out-of-towners to get a waffle cone with a couple scoops. Hey Mikey’s has all the usual suspect toppings, like sprinkles and crushed Oreos, as well as specialty sundaes and something called, “The Home Cut Donut,” which is a smashed glazed donut stuffed with ice cream. The flavors are great, and they offer samples. The sorbets were surprisingly flavorful. I enjoyed my scoop of cereal, which tasted like fruity pebbles and key lime pie.

I went here because I've read about it in the Galveston information book. The pictures looked amazing and I was eager for a awesome waffle cone. When I arrived here I asked for a waffle cone with vanilla ice cream. I was told they didn't have any waffle cones I was heartbroken. I mean this place opens up at noon and I got here at 12:20 and they are know for their homemade waffle cones very disheartening. So I ask for my next favorite which is a brownie hot fudge sundae. She then told me there was no hot fudge and is it okay for chocolate, I just shook my head and said sure I then realized that she didn't put a brownie on my cup upon fixing it. I asked and was told that the small does not come with a brownie. By this time I was irritated and ready to leave. I just couldn't since I watched her prepare this ice-cream and didn't want it to go to waste. I was visiting and was not impressed 😕 I should have went to Marble Slab Creamery instead.

This charming little ice cream parlor in Galveston is a true gem! Tucked away near the Strand, it radiates small-town warmth with friendly service and a fun, nostalgic vibe. Whether you’re cooling off after a beach day or just craving a sweet treat, this spot hits the mark. The atmosphere is inviting, the portions are generous, and everything feels homemade with love. It’s the kind of place that brings back childhood memories and keeps you coming back for more. A must-visit for locals and tourists alike—simple, sweet, and full of heart!

Google
Great service by the wonderful young ladies behind the counter. Tasty ice cream and they even let us bring our dog in and took a picture of them for their pet wall. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a wonderful, cool and sweet treat!

Google
STOP AND GET SOME OF THIS ICE CREAM! My family and I visited ”Hey Mikey’s” ice cream shop while on vacation in Galveston, and I am so glad we did. The ice cream is LOCAL HOMEMADE. It tastes fresh and the flavor selection is delicious! My favorite was cake batter, but the nutter butter is also delicious. The kids loved the strawberry poptart, Oreo, and cereal milk. The turtle trax is also delicious. Old fashioned root beer is delicious, and if a shake is more your style they have great shakes too. 5 stars all around, great quality, good price, amazing flavors. The staff was friendly and very accommodating!

YOU MUST STOP HERE IF VISITING GALVESTON. BEST Ice cream ever. The Banana pudding flavor was absolutely AMAZING. We loved every flavor we got, so creamy and delicious. We will come here everytime we are in town. We need one in Fort Worth.

Google
Very cute ice cream shop with delicious ice cream. Staff is friendly. They have a lot of interesting flavors. I sampled the salted caramel, which was yummy! My hubs had the lemon shortbread. It was also tasty. Our daughter enjoyed the blue raspberry with gummy bears! We got mini cups, which were $5. A little pricey for a tiny cup, but they overload them. We will return to try more flavors!

Google
Creamy delicious ice cream 🍨! Cute open style atmosphere with cute decor!! Genuinely friendly staff, happy to help with tourist details as well 😅 They offer a great life cream flight, where you get 4 different flavors, great way to get a taste of multiple different options ! The strawberry pop tart was my favorite for sure

Yelp
Delicious homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors that are changed out frequently. Plus, you'll always get service with a smile! 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
The icecream here was so fun and creative! There's some great flavors you don't find in every other icecream shop!

Yelp
I like getting ice cream here when we are in Galveston. They come up with new flavors every time and their flavors are tasty. The cookie monster is usually what I get and I think it's a pretty delicious and solid flavor. I got the black walnut during our current visit here and it is a coffee-flavored ice creams which was pretty good. They have mini, small, and medium scoops available. The prices range between $3-$5 for the scoops. A banana split was $9. They only have street parking which may be challenging if the Strand is busy because this place is close to the Strand. Read the street parking signs because you may need to pay depending on which street you parked. The staff is also helpful and they don't mind you sampling their ice cream if you can't decide which flavor you want. They have ample seats inside and a couple outside the place. Overall, I recommend this place to help with this triple digit Texas heat!

Yelp
I've come here quite a few times and each time my ice cream tastes good. Their Nutella flavor specifically is the one I always opt to try. The last time I went I wanted a brownie sundae, but unfortunately they were out of brownies. The service is good, but the ambiance is just okay. It's also worthy of mentioning that I attempted to come here 2x in the past 2 weeks, and both times this place has been closed despite saying it was open on Google. No mention of updated hours on Instagram either. If they're going to be closed during normal business hours, they should really post somewhere online that they're not going to be open. Luckily, I live 2 mins away, but I would be even more upset if I drove here from the west side of the island just to find out they were closed.

Yelp
Good ice cream spot in the downtown area near a bunch of other shops and restaurants! Employees are super kind and patient when trying out different flavors! It's a small, casual space with very limited indoor seating. Tried to strawberry flavor, which was light yet creamy!

Roxy L.

Yelp
Love their ice cream staff friendly and lots of toppings and flavors to chose from. Oh the possibilities..they even have a doggy bowl outside for dogs to quench their thirst. I love this painting inside too.

Bladimir M.

Yelp
Little ice cream shop in the heart of downtown! Got a huge scoop of chocolate ice cream on a waffle cone! The workers were so nice and friendly! Also energetic. The space is simple, clean, and rather small!

Courtney M.

Yelp
The honey flavored ice cream was delicious. Not too sweet and the texture was so velvety and smooth. My complaint stems from it being a Saturday night on Galveston island, the end of summer, the wait is out the door and there were only two employees. The female was busting her tail to get everyone in/out but I watched the male play with putting his gloves on for like 10'mins. My husband claims he won't return because he tried to order a specialty shake in a size "small" but was told he's only allowed to order a large. Personally, I don't mind haha. Also, the store layout isn't very productive. The toppings are at the front of your ordering process and then all of the flavors follow. So a lot of customers were walking from the register section back to the end of the line to pick toppings. The shop is long and narrow so there was a lot of turning your body sideways to pass/allow others to pass.

Yelp
April 19, 2022 (Tuesday 3:45p) Graving ice cream...bright a friend and bought us banana splits ($7.50 each) We got 3 scoops w/3 toppings. She got strawberry, blueberry and pistachio ice cream topped w/hot fudge, nuts and caramel sauce I got coffee, thin mint and salted caramel ice cream topped w/granola, strawberries and chocolate sauce. They were fantastic! But... Mikey's didn't have any whipped cream for a banana split ...that's just wrong! They didn't have fresh cookies either...what's going on?!!

Roxanne B.

Yelp
Delicious!!! A little pricey though:( Plenty of outdoor seating, lots of options for ice cream. Sadly they were out of brownies and the waffle cone tasted rubbery. Overall though it was very good.

Megan M.

Yelp
Fantastic service and sugar coma!!! Enjoyed bringing our kids here! Best waffle chips and cones!!!

Benjamin L.

Yelp
Late night dessert to end my weekend. As I enter the store, I was welcomed with warm greetings and the two workers kindly ask if we wanted to try any flavors since their flavors changes here and there. The smell and of waffle cones made me crave ice cream even more. However for some reason I really wanted a milkshake. The milkshake is delicious but it more on the milkier side. For the candy overload, I was expecting more candy due to its name. As I was finishing up my drink, more & more people continued to line up and come in right before they closed. They worked quickly but still provide each person with the same experience they provided me. They even said bye to me before I left. The customer services is superior!

Melissa W.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream! We split the brownie sundae and it was the dessert of chocolate dreams! Would 100% recommend and plan to visit again on our next trip to Galveston.

Janaya M.

Yelp
Small amount of seating when you walk in the door. Hand dipped ice cream of which is what I came for so I couldn't tell you about anything but that. We got a scoop of strawberry and a scoop of pumpkin. Both were very good. I tried a sample of the snickerdoodle and it had a very strong flavor of something I couldn't pinpoint what it was but it did not taste good in my opinion.

Helena K.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday afternoon with my family based on a recommendation. We were not impressed. There weren't many flavors of ice cream and the toppings selection was limited. A couple of the flavors (e.g. Pickle Ice, Barbie) were creative; we sampled them and didn't like these flavors. There weren't any other customers in the shop other than my family. There were two employees working. The male employee was extremely friendly and helpful. The female had no personality and didn't even greet us. She just stood there on the side behind the counter and stared out into space and occasionally made a waffle cone. At one point, before we left, I saw her pick her nose. I'm hoping she washed her hands! The bathroom was disgusting! It smelled like poop and bleach! I used the bathroom soon after arriving, and the stench was nauseating. My niece, nephew, and SIL used the bathroom near the end of our visit, and they all commented on the horrendous odor. Just thinking about the smell makes me sick to my stomach!

Halen S.

Yelp
Amazing service!! Maggie and Sara served me today and they did an amazing job. I felt so welcome in the place and I will definitely be going back for another experience! Recommending this place to all of my friends and family. The OREO shake was my choice and it was perfection in my mouth. Such a groovy place, def try it out!!

Cindy D.

Yelp
I'm still looking for a chocolate malt in Galveston. Hey Mikey's has chocolate milkshakes, but NO MALT! (Sad face). However, the shake was good so I'll only take off one star because they had no malt! My husband wanted a "MIX" but they don't know what that is here. I told the attendant that I wanted Reese's cups put into the milkshake. She did that and my husband said he really liked it. At least one of us is happy. Still looking for my malt...

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Ice cream was good! Service was a little confusing, but they got it together, and the girls handled the crowd with ease. Fun little shop in the middle of downtown. Some of the freshest waffle cones we've had, toppings are abundant, and the flight of 5 flavors may be a little too much for one person.

Lance S.

Yelp
This is a favorite ice cream parlor in Galveston. Our regular stop was already closed so we came here instead. We've been before and it was good. Today I didn't enjoy any of the flavors I tried, so I didn't get anything. My wife and sons got ice cream or shakes and they enjoyed them. My wife and youngest got Death by Chocolate in waffle cones (my son with fudge and animal cookies on top). My oldest son got an Oreo shake. Reasonably priced for ice cream. Always enjoy supporting a local business. I did remember last time we were here was summer and hot & the AC wasn't working. This time it's cool outside (60 degrees) and it was uncomfortably warm inside, so I sat outside and my family enjoyed the warmth of inside.

Liam's S.

Yelp
They are very yummy. But ran out of our favorite cookie monster ice cream when we called in advance to see if they had plenty in stock. We were getting the scrapings off the bottom. Strawberry cheesecake needs some work.

J T.

Yelp
This place is a supreme rip-off. They charged me $14.07 for one scoop of ice cream in a cup, with a small amount of hot fudge (initially, the amount of hot fudge was so little that I had to insist they add more). I live on this island, and it appears that their attitude is to rape the tourists during beach season, and coast by the rest of the year on the fools who happen to come in. I should have refused the product without paying, but I foolishly went through with the transaction. Not again ... not setting foot in this place. Beware.

Amanda H.

Yelp
Fresh ice cream with a variety of flavors. The staff is always friendly and will sample the ice cream if needed. But you won't be disappointed in any flavor you get. Even flavors I traditionally aren't crazy about are amazing here. The shop can get a little crowded if it's busy, so bring your patience, you won't regret it!

Lynn D.

Yelp
Love the flavors here! The guy was super helpful about personal favorite flavors. I ended up getting the lemon one bc it was a (fancy) refreshing taste. Absolutely loved the quality! COVID-19: requires masks on the whole time and cannot eat inside. I recommend this place over L.A Confectionary bc that place was way too crowded. This abides by COVID-19 rules and I feel safer eating ice cream here.

Donna R.

Yelp
Fun place with awesome homemade ice cream, waffle cones, and hot fudge. The sweet smell hits you as soon as you enter the store! So good, will definitely return when I am in the area.

Mackenzie M.

Yelp
The ice cream is delicious and the staff is amazing! Maggie, Kaylee, and Luke were working and they were so welcoming and friendly! I will definitely be back!!! Recommending this to everyone I know.

Brenden D.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream and super cool shop! Great service from Kaylie, she was so sweet!

L M.

Yelp
Good icecream, clean place, convenient location Friendly staff Outdoor and indoor seating

Justin A.

Yelp
staff was polite and respectful! my friend and i both got milk shakes and they were yummy!!

Ashlynn R.

Yelp
Our favorite dessert spot in Galveston. The coffee ice cream in a waffle cone is amazing! Always great service too!

Courtney Ann R.

Yelp
Really fun place! I loved the cake batter ice cream but they had lots of fun flavors. The mural is super cute perfect picture spot.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Definitely the best ice cream on the island! I love the uniqueness of the barbecue ice cream, and the ice cream nachos are the best!! The workers they are all amazing as well!

Michael P.

Yelp
Really good ice cream with great flavors. Raspberry white chocolate! --So good! Death by chocolate shake thick and perfect amount of chocolate

Teri Theresa R.

Yelp
Nice little ice cream spot on Post office street with outside sidewalk seating. A few different unusual flavors we just had to try--honey Jalapeño & avocado Lime. Both were delightful!

Kristin B.

Yelp
Cute ice cream shop away from the seawall. My kids love and we go every time we make a trip to Galveston

Amanda R.

Yelp
Good ice cream and friendly people. We brought home our color changing spoons for future ice cream eating :)

Khyleigh G.

Yelp
This hot chocolate float is so good!! We walked in and. They were so welcoming the ice cream is so good and is a great price

Alexis W.

Yelp
Hubby and I visited here while on vacation. I'm definitely an amaretto fan and their Amaretto Fudge was spot on; it was delicious, subtle, not overwhelming. Hubby had the lemon custard and creme brulee; he especially enjoyed the lemon custard. It also had a great subtle taste, not artificial. We each got a single (4.5 oz) which was perfect for after dinner. It's also in a great location on Post Office Street in the historic district. *Note: we visited during COVID and felt their precautions were adequate. They're not letting anyone eat inside and not allowing samples at this time. However, there is seating available outside.*

Chris H.

Yelp
Best ice cream in Galveston!! Got 2 scoops! Tried the brownie batter and the crazy Irish or whatever you call it. The quality was top notch! It's was creamy and thick!! So goood!! Much better than La King's.

Cassidy S.

Yelp
Very yum and very cute! They are located in the perfect part of the strand too! They make their cones fresh in a waffle maker daily and they have a sprinkle spinner! Every last detail and toy is there to make your visit the best ice cream experience it can be! Highly recommend!

Meghan M.

Yelp
My friend and I came very excited to try the ice cream. Unfortunately, we didn't feel the sanitation was up to par. The two workers present were not wearing gloves while handling the food. They were also touching their faces, wiping their noses and glasses, and then touching the ice cream and waffle cones with their bare hands. We hope that in the future, the employees are more mindful of their hygiene when they handle food.

Amber F.

Yelp
While I miss their snowcones, they have very inventive flavors of ice cream and everything here is good and amazing. Popcorn flavored ice cream? Yes please! Love the atmosphere and the people. Conveniently located near the Strand as well. Check them out!

Bettina R.

Yelp
Yum! It's good! 20 out of 10!!! This is how my 3 kids explained this place. They have the blue Cookie Monster!!! All I can say is if you know you know. It's a cute place. Great little growing downtown area. The mud pie is the 2nd fav in our house!! Waffle cones being made in house has the warehouse feel. Great place!

Barbara T.

Yelp
We had the Pistachio ice cream in a waffle cup and it was really good. Loaded with Pistachios, and the waffle cup was so good I ate all of it too! The girl working there was really nice and cheerful.

Melissa A.

Yelp
Really yummy small batches of unique flavors! They have the usual strawberry, vanilla and chocolate but then you add in butter pecan, Oreo, pralines and cream, but also banana, grape and lime ices... today we had butter pecan (wow!) and one called Irish car bomb... a coconut delight with little pops of crunch. The service was great and friendly and pretty busy. Clean and offered really good variety of ice cream delights! We are going back here!!

Garfield M.

Yelp
I went in this place while visiting Galveston. This is a nice vibe and neighborhood feel the place is downtown so parking could be an issue. employee was very friendly. I would go back again if in the area.

Leelé G.

Yelp
Adorable local spot with an excellent selection of flavors. When I first walk in, the staff was so bubbly and insist on my family and I sample on a few choices. They even make their own waffles from scratch which is a bonus! There weren't many dairy-free options for me but they had coconut ice which I was super grateful for because my prayers were answered for some fresh coconut after walking around the town in the heat. Every bite was super refreshing! Such a nice and "vibey" place, would definitely recommend for everyone to check out when stopping by Galveston.

Sara R.

Yelp
If you want the best ice cream in the island then this is the place. So many delicious options and plenty of space to sit and enjoy. Skip the touristy spot of La Kings and head here for great flavors and space to sit and enjoy your treat.

Tracie B.

Yelp
another Locally owned place that I love! My kids and I are a bunch of beach bums, so were always in Galveston. I came across this place and it has become a regular place for us to stop in at after being on the beach. When you walk in you can immediately smell the fresh waffle cones cooking. They have two cases full of different ice cream flavors. Some standards like strawberry but they they also have their unique ones they make. Ive gotten the Honey Jalapeno one a couple of times, its just the right amount of sweet and spicy. Another favorite is the Mexican hot chocolate. It just reminds me of home, its pretty great. My 6 year old is a fan of the Pomegranate cucumber flavor. It not only looks great, it taste pretty good too. The Littlest heathen LOVES their Chocolate Peanut butter flavor. and I mean home girl LOVES it. She dropped some once and i wasn't quick enough to stop her from licking it right off the table. lol kids are weird. We'll continue to visit Hey Mikey's every time we leave the beach! Its just our tradition now.
