Heyma is one of my favorite coffee houses. I love the Aden black tea with honey. They have a very nice and respectful staff. The middle eastern music and decor make me feel like I am far away…

Heyma is one of my favorite coffee spots. It’s clean, and a great spot to hangout with friends. The tea is delicious and smell is delightful. It’s truly an experience. I also love their honey comb bread drizzle with honey.

This place deserves way more hype, because it is amazing. I ran here, and not only was the sight of fun, unique flavour creations of coffee and matcha enough to make me drool, the Arabian ambience and music transported me to my family’s in Jordan, what with the familiar cushions and elaborate wall art. I ordered their iced pistachio latte, and genuinely my jaw dropped when I took the first sip, because I wasn’t expecting it to taste that good. They use a very high quality spread that tastes like the nut itself, and adds a sweetness to the drink that does not overpower the coffee at all. It’s perfect. I noticed a lot of coffee use pistachio syrup for a pistachio flavoured drink, which I personally despise. But Heyma use a spread that really enhances the coffee. Going here is an experience, transporting you to a different place and culture. As a Middle Eastern girl myself, it is officially one of my favourite coffee shops in the world.

We visited this place on Sunday August 31. I ordered hot tea. My husband ordered ice coffee and pastries I did not like that they only serve drinks in to go cups because I try to avoid microplastics, but I had my own to go cup. When I was ordering I told them I would bring my own cup from the car, but they still made it in a regular plastic cup. When I came back with my cup they suggested just pouring the tea from their cup into mine. Of course I refused and they remade the drinks, but that moment was unpleasant for me. The music inside was very loud and the bathrooms were very dirty. I saw the owner’s comment saying the bathrooms are cleaned regularly, but during the several hours we spent there no one cleaned them. Their prices are like in good quality coffee shops, but the standards of cleanliness and quality are not the same. The staff is very friendly and that is a big plus. As well, I think the menu should include Half and Half because we are in America and that is something you find everywhere. Unfortunately we will not be coming back.

Great place to spend time with family and friends. The aroma was warm and inviting the moment we walked in. They were able to comfortably accommodate our big family and still provide excellent service, even during busy hours. The employees were incredibly sweet, respectful, and attentive, which made us feel truly welcome. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we would definitely come back again.

I regularly come here when I am in the area doing laundry. I am very happy with the drinks the sell here. My favorite is the Mufawar but they often have a new smoothie or something like that and they are usually pretty good.

Wonderful coffee spot with great atmosphere! I recently visited Heyma Coffee House and had a fantastic experience. The coffee was excellent - rich, smooth, and clearly made with quality beans. The baristas were friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to make perfect recommendations. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great place to relax, catch up with friends, or get some work done. I also appreciated how clean and well-maintained everything was. The menu has great variety, and the prices are reasonable for the quality you’re getting. I’ll definitely be coming back and would highly recommend Heyma Coffee House to anyone looking for a great local coffee spot! Looking forward to another visit!

This place is a sanctuary. I’m not Yemeni, but the Aden tea is a direct dose of magical beautiful nostalgia that takes me back to my auntie’s famous chai. The place is beautiful and clean. Perfect for studying or relaxed conversation with friends. Food? Incredible. 6/5 stars.

This place took my breath away with how stunning and gorgeous it is! The interior is so lovingly designed and truly feels like you've stepped out of Berkeley. The man at the cashier was very helpful in explaining what was helpful, what didn't have milk, etc. I got the Turkish coffee which HITS. I was wondering why the little pot to pour into my cup wasn't full. It's because it's STRONG. It also tastes very bold and forward, which I liked. My boyfriend ended up getting the Heyma latte, which was creamy and delicious. Their coffees as a whole look spiced and keep the history and tradition alive (as Yemen is the birthplace of coffee! I didn't know). I really enjoyed doing something different and learning about the coffee. Would definitely recommend.

Heyma Yemeni Coffee is located on a main and busy street, but not much foot traffic here, as it is away from the main areas where most of the students hang / walk around. Parking is street parking - I came here pretty late at night, so I was able to easily find parking right out front. The shop is a bit awkwardly situated, as both of their doors are at the ends, so it took me a minute to realized the main counter was on the other side, but they had plenty of seating areas from bar seating to booth style couches to chairs / tables. Ordering is at the front counter, if you are dining in, one of the employees will bring your drink(s) / snack(s) to your table after you order at the front. Anyway, I was originally looking for a boba or coffee shop that opened decently late with seating / wifi - I read some reviews that this was a good study spot and they did not closed, until 11 PM that night. Unfortunately, after I ordered - I settled down and was comfortable, I pulled out my laptop and tried to connect to their wifi (they even have the wifi / password on every table for your convenience) and it did not work at all (I tried 3 -4 times and doubled / tripled check the wifi password before giving up). I did not even bother checking, if they had outlets at this point. Also, it is kind of a loud cafe with a lot of kids running around, so it was not the best spot to get some work done - I was hoping that I could add this cafe to my list for a new potential study spot, but it was a miss. I did not find a drink on the menu that interested me, so I ordered one of their pastries - their Honeycomb. It is a cream cheese filled bread topped with honey. It was decently priced for the size. It was pretty good, but I wished it was a bit more fluffy / soft, as it was a bit too crispy / well toasted - there also was a decent amount of cream cheese and honey as well, so it was both savory & sweet . Overall, 3.5 - 4 stars for the pastry I tried, but 2 - 2.5 stars for my experience / the ambience.

This is a lovely place to sit with a friend, linger with a book, and enjoy great coffee. They really went all out on the ambiance--from the ceiling tiles to the alcove seating. Even the ceramic cups and saucers feel extra special. I have ordered the eponymous Heyma latte each time. I want to try other things on the menu, but I always end up getting this because it is so good with cardamom and cinnamon (at a specialty price though). There are also savory goods and desserts. The windows let in plenty of sunshine. It is welcoming and not sterile or generic, yet it is a clean café.

Nice place for a sit down and chat. They have a lot of seating, and great pastries/snacks to choose from. I got their refresher drink with redbull. Very interesting but I did like it. Would come back to chill.

Really great (I wanna say) Arabic coffee shop located in Berkeley that sources and serves coffee from area where coffee started! In terms of the operation, it's pretty similar to other coffee places. You come in, you order from some friendly people, and you wait for your beverage. There are food items as well. Okay, so that's where the similarities end. This place is super unique, at least to me. The space makes it feel like I've been transported to an area in the world I haven't been, but only seen in movies/ shows. Looks like a great place to meet up and hang with people or another person. The food items looked and smelled wonderful. I ended up ordering a Heyma latte and a savory vegetable pastry. Both delicious, with the latte having a nice spice to it with the cardamom and cinnamon flavors. A perfect warm food/drink combo on a cold evening. I was in the area visiting and this place came up when I was looking up places I could get a pick me up since I was drinking at different beer spots earlier in the day. This place looked perfect and it was. I wish there were spots like this closer to me in LA. Maybe there is and I just haven't found it, but truly a Berkeley gem.

Heyma is one of Berkeley's best coffeehouses, hands down (As seen on their wall: Yemen being the birthplace of coffee, I would expect no less ;-) ). The setting is cozy and clean, staff are beyond kind and friendly. HEYMA LATTE (iced, oat milk): The house favorite, apparently. While I'm not a cinnamon person, this is delightful. Aromatic from the first sip~ Thought this was a nice floral, refreshing blend. CHEESE MANAKEESH: After my bf raved about it, I had to get a bite in-- super toasty, savory cheese bread. If I hadn't already eaten earlier, I would've loved to try their milk cake...! Will have to be back.

The Heyma Latte is delicious!! The cardamom flavor is nicely added. They had alot of delicious baked goods too.

Came here with a friend to chat and have dessert! She ordered a chai tea with a cheese manakeesh and I had a strawberry banana smoothie and vegetable sambusa. Food was refreshing and sambusa had a kick to it. They have chairs with outlets so you can charge your devices

The coffee and chai was really tasty and beautifully presented. We got the Heyma Latte and the Aden Chai. The latte had gorgeous art and was served nice and hot. The cardamom and cinnamon flavors were excellent if a little muted in the hot drink. The Aden Chai was delicious and sweet and nice and strong and served piping hot. The space is so beautifully decorated with ample seating and space. Service is great too if just a little slow, but I think that's because of how busy the place is. A really nice coffee shop addition to the neighborhood.

The Heyma Smoothie is a mango smoothie with dates, condensed milk, and strawberry puree. It was pretty good. 8/10. I didn't like the strawberry banana smoothie. It was a little too sweet and didn't taste like fresh fruit. (4/10) Outlets - they have outlets at a few of the tables WiFi - free wifi! However, I noticed that some sites are unreachable (bcourses, stackoverflow, Reddit, iMessage, slack, Yelp). I've only been here once so I'm not sure if it's a reoccurring issue. The seating area is very clean and nice, there are plenty of tables and chairs. Also, there is a cash discount!

I've been wanting to try out this place for a while & I'm so glad I did! I got an iced caramel macchiato. It was 10/10. I love that it was sweet, but didn't taste super sugary. Service was great, only suggestion I would have is adding some background music like lofi or classical music, it was very quiet. I also really like that it's not in downtown Berkeley. It's so hard to find a parking spot once you get closer to the campus.

I tried the Heyma Latte ($6.99) - it's flavored with cardamom, cinnamon, and other spices and delicious! One of the best lattes I've ever had. I think I appreciated the novelty and uniqueness. The interior is quite nice with some lovely booths. It's a very aesthetic cafe. The barista who brought out my latte was nice, smiled at me, and made sure to turn my coffee to be in the right direction. It's a small thing, but I noticed it.

Have wanted to check out this place for awhile. Had the Heyma latte with almond milk and the spices in it were unique and pleasant (cardamom, cinnamon, etc.). I am not big on sugary coffee so when asked if I wanted it sweetened, i asked for just a tiny bit and the barista said he would add 1 tablespoon of sugar. That turned out to be the perfect amount. On a rainy Saturday morning the cafe was full and people were hanging out, working, and studying. The barista was very nice as well. Really liked this place and look forward to returning...the only minus was that the latte (with almond milk) cost an unprecedented (for Berkeley, at least from what I've experienced) and eye-watering $8.77 (gulp!) so it will be only a once-in-awhile visit due to high cost...but wanted to share so that everyone can enjoy this lovely place and get a dose of Yemeni culture/coffee to brighten up the winter.

Beautiful new coffee shop along university ave. Lots of seating available with nice cushions. The entire shop is beautifully decorated and with plenty of space to work. The screens weren't working when we came in so we had to look up a photo of the menu in order to order. Little annoyance but it was fun. I get it there are some kinks to work out. Also there was only one worker who was working incredibly hard but did result in some delays. Got a heyma latte. I enjoyed the addition of the cinnamon and cardamom but it definitely needs to be swirled occasionally so that the end sips aren't all spices. It was about the cost I would expect in Berkeley. Quickly greeted upon entry, took a few minutes to ponder menu, placed order after a few questions asked and answered. Order brought promptly to table. Offerings: expressos, pour overs, specialty coffee, refreshers & smoothies, pastries, cold drinks, teas.. Drink: single serving Turkish coffee (12 oz. 4.50) black -fresh grounded dark roast Yemeni coffee (2 weeks old) with cardamom served in a small pouring vessel. -2d time tasting Turkish brew, strong, smooth, bold. -informed 8 oz. Is the recommended daily dosage. *actually paired well with Sabaya pastry. Eats: Sliced of Sabaya pie (5.95) -best known Yemeni pastry/pie. Similar to baklava -multi-layered puffy "cake" with brown butter, black seeds between the layers. Yummy honey drizzled on top. -so deliz couldn't wait to cut it by pieces to eat. Just grabbed one end, ate it like a slice of pizza. 5 stars repeatable. So many items neither ate or drank before.. smily, courteous service. Soft music in background. I've been here ~5 times and would give Heyma 3.5 stars, with the main reason being the fruit flies. Pros: - spacious cafe with lots of seating - good coffee and lattes - stays open late - free wifi Cons: - so. many. flies. I've been here for 4 hours, switched seats and am *constantly* swatting fruit flies. I'm packing to leave right now because of it - most tables don't have an outlet nearby - slightly overpriced albeit tasty coffee

This is a newer coffee spot in Berkeley serving Yemeni coffee, the service is polite, quick, and attentive and the decor of the place is very unique with orange and brown tones throughout in a modern and pleasant setting. This spot has one of the best if not the best coffees I've ever had in the bay area, (and I've been to a lot) they do a wonderful job steaming the almond milk I used in my latte and my latte was perfectly spiced and milky (which understandably is harder to get with almond milk over non dairy creamer or milk). Drinks a 10/10 As for the cakes I ordered the rose water cake and it's almost like a dulce De Leche with a rose theme, the cake is light but saturated with the sweet rose water and is very sweet, if you have a sweet tooth this is a must try. My fiance got the caramel one and this one is quite close to a dulce de Leche, not quite as sweet and just has a great texture overall. Both cakes are 9/10 just a bit sweet for me personally!

I decided to stop by while I was in the area, and I ordered a spinach turnover ($4.15), vegetable sambusa ($3.64), and honey comb ($5.99). They offered to heat these up for me which I agreed to, and which takes about 4 minutes. The turnover and sambusa are both a little spicy (for me, someone who can only handle a mild level of spicy), but tasty. I find the sambusa has more complex of a flavor profile, likely because there's both lentils and something else in it, whereas the turnover mainly just had the spinach flavor. The honey comb is a bread that is creamy and sweet inside. You might like this if you enjoy bagels with cream cheese, or buns with a mild-tasting dairy-based custard inside. I do wish the prices had been posted on the labels, although the prices are reasonable. They also sell fatayer, though I didn't try it since it contains meat, as well as various cakes, coffee, and other drinks. They have plenty of indoor seating and free wifi if you're looking for a place to work outside the home.

The coffee is spectacular here - the spices in the brews are pure magic. Savory sambusas and pastries are so satisfying and flavorful. Kind service. Plenty of space to convene with friends or get work done.

Vibe - 5/5 - Very clean and spacious with traditional decor and ambient bulb lighting - Went around 12:30 pm on a Tuesday and had no issue finding a table to work - The cleaner smell was very strong and distracting (I appreciate that they just cleaned the floors though) Customer Service - 4/5 - The barista at the register was very kind and efficient at making my drink!

This joint is known for its delicious coffee. Yes, everyone comes here for the coffee because its sooo much better than Peets. But I'm here to recommend coming here for the snacks. They have so many delicious little desserts to snack on. I'm not sure if they make them in house or if they outsource the baking, but everything is always fresh and delicious. The most popular drink here seems to be the Heyma Latte. My friend got it with almond milk. The presentation was fantastic and my friend raved about it. I usually get the Strawberry Banana Smoothie. They make it fresh and only use fresh ingredients. Its sooooo filling. Its like a meal. You'll walk away full after drinking one of those puppies. Thanks Heyma!

Must try. Delicious coffee. Out favorite was the caramel macchiato. The ambiance is amazing. Plenty of seating and quick service. There's only street parking but not hard to find.

this place is the perfect study spot, especially for uc berkeley kids who struggle to find a study place that's not that busy during finals!! there is so much seating here, and they have a wide variety of pastries and beverages. caramel macchiato - i asked for it to be sweeter since she and it was sweet but really good! iced mocha latte - my friend said it was not overly sweet, and it has a good mild chocolate taste white cinnamon latte - my friend enjoyed this and noted that the cinnamon was well-balanced i can't wait to come back here and try the pastries!

The vibes in here are amazing. You can tell they put a lot of effort into the spot and the coffee. They also have delicious deserts/small bites. The Heyma latte is fire!

Great coffee. Great beans and we bought whole to grind and brew and home. Beautiful inside, well appointed and spacious and parking on the street seemed plentiful. We would love to head back when we are in the area. Glad to have found this gem. Note the Turkish coffee is FANTASTIC.

You know that great feeling when you use Yelp to find the spot perfect for an afternoon catch up with a friend? Yelp delivered and Heyma did not disappoint- it was such cool spot for coffee and a treat. The food paired well with my Heyma Latte - we had the honeycomb "pull apart" pastry - it had cheese and drizzled with honey. We also had something sweet and something savory- the rose water milk cake and the spinach bread - while everything tasted really good; I'd say it's the rose water milk cake for me - so light, slightly sweet and moist and the rose water was a touch of beautiful floral party in your mouth. The staff were helpful and gave the best recommendations! And the ambiance is perfect for a quiet tea or catch up with some friends.

Cute cafe and the coffee and pastries are good. First time here and the person who took my order was nice and friendly! Super cute inside, and yes people were on their laptops - but what do you expect? It's a cafe (: Got two speciality coffees - mufawaar and juban. came out piping hot and deliciously fragrant! also got sabaya pastry - YUMMY. Will come back to try milk cakes and babousa.

The cardamom coffee latte thingy...it is next level delicioso. I wish I could afford to drink them more often, they are so good. They offer non dairy milks, too and have a wide variety of pastries and treats from the Middle East. Lovely decor, too.

Reason for -2: 1. I don't like to generalize so I will state my observation and facts- second Yemeni cafe and the service/staff is unfriendly, almost like they're doing you a favor by serving you and taking an order. I hope this will improve ! 2. Prices- I'd say 0.50-$1 too high (basing on similar cafes in the neighborhood) 3. Utensils- why in the world are we using individually wrapped plastic utensils, esp in Berkeley? First of all for all those environmentally aware people that's a turn off, but secondly (and perhaps even more so for me)- it ruins the dining experience, when you have a beautiful ceramic cup of coffee or tea and then using a plastic fork for dessert- not "comme il faut." ‍ It is much easier and cheaper to wash metal Utensils than to buy plastic. Since you already have normal cups that are harder to wash, you can wash them together (or separate, whatever the best practice is). And PLEASE get compostable silverware- then it would justify the high price I noted above. Thank you!

This is an amazing new Yemeni coffee shop. Large , extremely clean with plenty of room to breathe and sip my favorite Adeni tea with Samosas. The service quality is excellent. The people including the guests were polite and friendly. It is my favorite place to go for tea and Yemeni coffee.

New coffee & tea spot in the neighborhood with outdoor seating. Friendly staffs. Juban was sold out when we were there. The staff (or maybe owner) recommended Socotra'a which is similar to Juban. We also want to try one of the cakes. The staff recommended one of the popular cakes. Coffee and cake tasted delicious. Definitely will come back to try others.

The kids and I originally intended to have our Eid lunch next door in Algerian restaurant. We drove all the way from South Bay, but unfortunately the Algerian restaurant was closed and we ended up in Heyma. We love this place! Décore is amazing, staff friendly and attentive, and they have a variety of pides, manakeesh and other delicious pastries! I love their latte with cardamom. We enjoyed everything and appreciated the famous Yemeni honeycomb sweet bread which was given to us as a complimentary treat. Thank you for your outstanding service!

Almost 5 stars? Why?!? So, the ambiance is nice, but the service is not friendly and the coffee (very) and food (somewhat) overpriced. Most tables are full with people working in their laptops. If you want to try a Yemeni's coffee shop, there are better ones in the area.

This is one of the most beautifully decorated coffee shops that I have ever been to. We did not try any of the food, but the coffee was very good and the service was phenomenal. The barista was able to attend to dietary restrictions and was very kind about it as well. Recommend!!

Loved this little Yemeni coffee shop! The service was 10/10 and the pastries were top tier. I should have paired my rose milk cake with coffee instead of an iced tea but that'll be for another day! I also really appreciated how clean the restrooms were. Will definitely be back & would definitely recommend stopping by. Ty Heyma!!

We had the Yemeni tea, latte, potato bread and cheese bread. The pastries were warmed up for us and absolutely delicious as well as the tea and latte. The staff member that helped us was friendly and answered all of our questions. She brought the tray to our lovely table. The interior is gorgeous and a lovely place to spend some time.

Update, Feb 26: Someone from the shop reached out and said they're still getting the hang of pour-overs - it's not yet an expertise. I appreciate this! I wanted to give them another try anyway, so I will go back and update my review with my experience. Feb 24, 2024 review: The woman behind the counter was very nice. I want to like Heyma more than I liked it. I wanted to support them but I'm not motivated to go back after my first experience. I got a pour over of one of their specialty coffees. It was rather weak - nothing t to distinguish it from any run-of-the-mill cup of coffee. If it had been flavorful, I wouldn't have minded paying $6.99 for it (really $9 after tax and tip). With the piece of baklava I got, I paid almost $20 for a mediocre cup of coffee and pastry. If it's a place to sit with a friend or your laptop, this might be a place for you. There is a small coffee and pastry place a couple doors east that is quite good.

Just gonna sit here and cry till the cafe partners up with a delivery service. Btw I ended up dropping by on the way back from a doc appointment, got 3 drinks and finished them the same day...it's not a phase, it's an addiction.

Heyma Yemeni Coffee has excellent coffee and amazing nibbles. I tried their specialty coffee drink, Socotra'a - medium roast coffee with cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon - I asked for touch of cream and it was perfection! I had it with a mini honeycomb cake and it was perfectly fluffy with the right amount of honey drizzled on top. I have also ordered a cappuccino with a bit of cardamom and it honestly elevated it. I tried their maamoul cookies (tender shortbread cookies filled with dates) - one had finely chopped pistachios sprinkled on top and the other was bare - both were well worth the calories. Finally, I had their savory fatayer, perfectly baked pastry with ground beef in the center, open-faced style - it is also known as an 'empanada arabe'. It was a good balance of pastry, beef, and spices - very tasty. They have a talented baker, I am assuming they are in-house from the great number of delectable looking pastries in their display case. I am also a fan of the clean café interior design - they put a lot of thought into the details from the marble-like table tops to the comfy chairs. There is an inviting sofa with a honey-comb coffee table that would be perfect to hangout & chat with friends or soon to be friends! It is an interesting mix of modern and traditional design - arabesque but with clean lines that play well against each other. The color scheme of black, white, and gold tones is eye-pleasingly striking. The young woman behind the counter is provides friendly service and makes great coffee drinks. Heyma Yemeni Coffee is an excellent and much welcomed addition to the neighborhood. Bravo all around - I hope you can check it out soon!

Food - The cakes were great, on the sweeter side but it's a very wet version of a cake like a tres leches. The samosas were the kings so far with incredible spice flavor. We got a white cinnamon latte and it was so delicious, top tier coffee for sure. Service - Service was fantastic and very welcoming. Although they did forget to bring us our samosa at first it was quickly fixed once we asked. We ordered at the counter and sat at a table and they bring our drinks and food to us. Ambiance - very chill ambiance which a very unique feel. Almost like your in Yemen with the great decor and unique booths. Overall definitely recommend going here!

Nicely decorated and clean interior. This coffee shop is decently sized and there's plenty of seating. I came here only for the coffee and decided to get the Heyma Latte since their store is called Heyma Yemeni Coffee. The staff was pretty nice and I got my coffee shortly after I ordered it. The coffee itself was really good.. but it just tasted like a really good latte to me. I couldn't taste anything different between the Heyma Latte and a normal latte I would get from a coffee store. It wasn't worth the extra $1. Overall, they serve really delicious coffee, but next time I'll just get their normal latte. I also want to try some of their desserts next time I go.

Walked in at the start of the day today (well after 7am) and said "hello!" upon seeing the barrista. No response from the lady behind the counter. "Are we too early?" No response and she kept moving things around. So we left. Shame!
