I don't understand the poor reviews. This hotel is a little gem and I will be back. The room I had (they upgraded me for free to a Deluxe King room) was very typical for NYC--small of course. But absolutely adorable. The bathroom is lovely. Sweet small bar restaurant with a great/kind bartender. For $200 less per night than *anything* else for miles, I'm extremely pleased.

I'm very confused about the restaurant situation here. I went in expecting what I saw on their website and Instagram page. Instead, I was handed a menu that had a lot of things crossed out on it and had the name of the cafe out front on it instead of "American Bistro". I ended up paying $77 for a poorly made cocktail, French fries, and a "dip trio" that was actually only a duo because they didn't have the third option, which even in this economy is absolutely WILD. Also, the binder in the room that tells you all that the hotel offers is out of date and advertising two restaurants that aren't even here. I felt it was Incredibly overpriced for what was available to me. The hotel itself seems fine...but I would love an explanation about what's going on with the "restaurant" here. It made the overall experience pretty poor for me after a long day of traveling and work meetings.

Little Gem of a hotel in midtown. While the room was a little small, a couple of items were missing upon arrival. Luggage rack, glasses in the bathroom and the keys initially didn't work until reprogrammed. So that would have made this review a1 star for sure. So you ask, how come you are giving it 4 stars? 1 person, Christina at the front desk saved the day and the review. First and foremost, bright and cheery! Definitely a welcoming smile. Next, she fixed the key issue without hesitation. Next, when I told her about the luggage rack and glass, she summons the maintenance man who immediately handled the luggage rack situation. She then retrieved a couple of glasses from the bar. Lastly, Dumb me, I forgot my cell phone charger. She immediately made hers available and while I read a couple of coffee table book in the lobby area, I got all charged up. Overall the hotel was clean and quiet. But what made the day was Christina and her world class service. Hotel is lucky to have her on staff.

Grossly misrepresented! This hotel was a gem about 5 years ago but COVID hut and it hit HARD. (See photos) The maintenance jobs are horrific; I would consider this a high end motel; not a hotel. Paint chipping, lightbulbs flickering, broken molding, stained carpets, scratched doors and elevators. For price vs. value..I will never return to HGU.

Standard hotel in a great location. Service was good. Has a hipster vibe. Walking distance from Koreatown.

I'm writing this half-way through my stay. I still have 2 days left. Unfortunately some rooms such as mine (200) are next to a pipe that makes an incredibly loud noise and won't let you sleep. I have read many other visitors who encountered the same problem, and all of them mention that the hotel reception refused to change the room, which was my case. Very good location though , and the cafe (Noa, a café) is delicious. But you can find much better options for the same price. Also, rooms are incredibly old and not in a fancy way. And very dark.

As a first timer coming to NYC, I read 30 plus reviews until I finally booked here. The valet / staff was very nice and accommodating. After checking in I was told certain amenities in the hotel were not available due to covid-19. We were only staying for the night and did not mind. The room was gorgeous and the space of our hotel room was amazing, my boyfriend said it was bigger than his apartment in his college days when he lived in Manhattan. The decor of the hotel was out of this world! Stunning and chic, we will be back and next time I hope the amenities are open, a girl can only hope. I blame Covid lol.

What a gem! Not known to many, but definitely a redo experience. My favorites were the details, like the flavorful asparagus, tasty margaritas, and really kind service which is hard to come by nowadays. Would highly recommend!

My first time booking through Hotel Tonight app was a dud. I guess they gave me the crappy room in this hotel. Let me say this hotel is gorgeous but very tiny. I knew that coming in but man the bed takes up the whole damn room. We were put in a King room with such little space to even move around. If you have luggage this hotel definitely isn't for you. The room was freezing cold! So we called the front desk and the maintenance guy came to "fix" it meanwhile bringing a space heater. He said he would reset the heat and come back and he never did. The space heater helped but really wtf? $100 a night and we need a space heater? I think the guy knew the heater didn't work. Another issue was hot water. Took a shower the first night and the water was warm not hot. The room decor is beautiful and so is the bathroom but it's definitely not worth me coming back here again. Also our room faced the street and we could hear everything outside! Don't stay here there is better elsewhere!

STAY AWAY! They sold my room to someone else, didn't bother to tell me, and had me walking around the streets of New York after midnight looking for a hotel. --- I booked a three night stay at HGU Hotel. When I got there, I was told that they had sold my room and that I would be spending tonight "at another hotel nearby". (Apparently, they didn't think it was important to tell me about this in advance, despite my having paid for a reservation several days prior, and despite the rep admitting that they'd known this all day) We went walking around looking for someone to help at this "other hotel" where I was supposed to stay for a night and then pack back up and come back to HGU. I asked if there was any compensation for delaying my checkin for an hour while we sorted all of this out (again, after midnight) and for the hassle of having to unpack and then repack and go through checkin all over again the next day (assuming that they didn't decide to sell my room to someone else again), and the hotel employee said he would comp me the first night.... ...okay that sounds good, right? Except - get this: HIS BIG "CONCESSION" FOR MY HASSLE WAS THAT HE WASN'T GOING TO CHARGE ME AT HIS HOTEL FOR A ROOM HE'D SOLD TO SOMEONE ELSE. I still had to pay for my room at another hotel. Are you serious? You can't be serious. He was serious. So now it's nearly 1am, I have to be up in 5 hours, and I'm waiting to check into some random (and not very promising to look at) hotel. W$()@$ YOU, HGU.

Worst air conditioner I've seen. I don't feel Safe and got sick. All kinds of visible fungus & dust. Very disappointed to see in such an expensive hotel ..

Totally a dud. Not worth the $200++/night charge. I've had better experience for a cheaper price per night. Here's why: 1. No doorman 2. Reception was cold and abrupt 3. Room quality is a 2. Bathroom had an unpleasant smell. Tiny room. Layout is a mess. Everything was an afterthought. 4. Noise from the streets pours into your room 24/7 making sleep very difficult and unpleasant. 5. Staffs are not trained in customer service. On a brighter note: great location with great restaurants in Korea town, WiFi pretty decent.

I had a fantastic time at the HGU New York! The hotel was easy to find and is close enough to all the fun things, but far enough from the craziness of Times Square. Upon arrival I was warmly greeted by the front desk receptionist Nicole, who was able to provide me with an early check-in to my room. From that moment onwards, Nicole was incredibly accommodating throughout my entire stay, and did this with the utmost kindness and enthusiasm. The room was clean and my king sized bed was comfortably stacked with plenty of pillows of different sizes and firmness. The water pressure in the shower (compared to different hotel experiences) was strong and the heat was constant. My only note of improvement would be to update the first aid kit. On one of my final days I asked a different front desk attendant for a band-aid but he couldn't find one. I truly enjoyed my stay at the HGU hotel and will be sure to revisit in the future.

I had a wonderful recent stay for almost a week at HGU New York. The staff was so helpful and accommodating before and during my stay. I called a week ahead to request a queen deluxe with a view and was very satisfied with the room view and layout. I traveled solo, so it was just enough space for me. The desk was nice alongside the armoir with a safe, which was so easy to set up a code and leave my valuables during the day when not around. I was able to order room service from the hotel's restaurant (Super Franc) as well as from the hotel's provided carrier, Butler. Both were delicious! The bed itself was very comfortable and the bay windows were so lovely to sit by and read/work from. Now, if you're familiar with NYC, you know that virtually anywhere you stay you're going to have a difficult time finding somewhere quiet as people are out at all times of the day. Since a room with a view was a priority, I knew I'd hear some noise throughout my stay but the noise really didn't bother me and wasn't too loud to ever wake me up. Plus, I was able to see the Empire State Building light up and see the lights turn off from my room which was really cool! Overall, I had a great stay here and would absolutely recommend to my friends looking for a prime place to stay in the city!

This hotel was beautiful! I didn't have a chance to explore it, and it's a smaller nyc hotel, but it was perfect. Also, it has a bathroom with a real door!!! Omg! I was so happy to finally find a hotel room without that barn door for a bathroom. This door actually closed and locked. Also!!! It had a bathtub! This hotel is a prewar building. So although the tub was a normal size tub like any nyc apartment would have, i was just happy to have one. The room was beautiful. It was a nice size, king bed was very comfortable. The tv was a bit small for the room i thought. It had more than enough mirrors, the lighting was a little dim, and it has a window that can be opened. (A window in the bathroom too). All in all, i would return here. The rate wasn't too bad, and it was nicely decorated. Also, check out is at noon!! Score! I called and asked for an extension for check out and the accepted free of charge! Score! I will definitely be back here for a staycation when needed. I'll upgrade my room so I'll have a free standing tub which is in the premium room i believe. Loved it!! Highly recommend

Felt completely deceived by the nice website. This hotel was such a disappointment. I booked a king deluxe and it was tiny like most people said. Dark too. The app and site offered a pillow service that we never received. The room wasn't serviced or clean after our first day so I called room service to deliver fresh towels at least. They never delivered them. We made sure to call everyday after that to get our room cleaned. They advertise alkaline water online but when I asked for additional water after our 3rd day they said only two were free on your first day of your stay. Kind of ridiculous. I had a difficult time reaching anyone by phone (every line had a busy aignalso tried their app messenger that is supposed to connect me to a staff member but that didn't work. They never responded. I had also booked this hotel because it advertised 24/7 room service. That doesn't exist. They shut down around 10 or 11. When I complained about this staff said they need to remove that from their site. Next time I'll just book with a large chain hotel instead. At least you know what you're getting. This place was very overpriced for what you get.

Idk man . I don't think "boutique " hotels are for me . I feel like it's a spin in this hotel is old and we put a new spin on it . The elevator only had 1 a day that would work we actually took the stairs down one day bc it was taking so long ! There's no way to social distance and just do 2 ppl in the elevator bc you will never go down !! The area to me wasn't my fav which isn't their fault I chose it to be farther away from Times Square with New Years . The coffee was available for purchase and no ice machine or vending . Which I'm sure they don't have the space for bc it's such a small place . The workers were really nice and it was a cute groovy place I would stay again but like I said the area wasn't for me . And the other thing was when they stocked our room before check in they didn't leave hardly no towels which once ur settled in who wants to go down for them . I'm sure we could of called but we made do

The staff was very accommodating and very nice. Everything in the room worked fine, however, it was small and could only accommodate two people at the max. The location is great and within walking distance to the Empire State Building and lots of different restaurants to try. It's suppose to be a boutique hotel, however the hall reminds me of an old, old apartment building that needs to be updated. The lounge area is nice and I know it has a rooftop bar, but we never got a chance to explore it. I just think overall, it was a bit pricey for what it was.

Building was beautifully decorated, I stayed there for 2 nights. Due to Covid most amenities (lounge, rooftop, Bar, car service ect.) weren't available but the staff did their best to make our stay comfortable. Our bed sheets were dirty but the front desk was quick to fix it. I booked the king deluxe room and it was a bit small but enough to get around and didn't bother us. The view wasn't so good so keep in mind your room might be a bit dark. T.V also did not have Netflix

I stayed here for 3 nights a couple weeks ago. The only reason why I picked this joint was that there was a sale and also, it helps that it is close to Penn Station (yeah, I can't seem to avoid Penn whenever I visit NY) and it's also a plus that this is by the fun K-Town (32nd). I arrived at round 9 am and there was no room, so the worker checked in my bag and I left to go around. I arrived back at 3 and there was still no room, so I stayed inside the empty lounge/bar area and after 10 minutes the room was ready. My room was at the 3rd floor and in true NY fashion, the floor was small and the room was small as well. However, I liked the fact that it had a queen bed, a flat screen TV, a decent sized bathroom, and a magnetic charger base for phones, etc. They also had a iPad mini for the guests to use but I had my own so I didn't bother. The bed made the room cramped but it was fine since I barely went to the right side anyway. Besides my view was a back alley so that was fine. There was a fridge too and it was crammed full of stuff, so I was unable to put my bottle waters in there. The facilities was good although the shower as hard to regulate, it was either really hot or cold and even though it was set in the middle it was not at the setting I preferred. Oh well, it was all good. They had the dispensers for soap and shampoo so no individual soaps. They did have a hand soap and two bottles of lotion. There was an issue with my AC during the first night as it leaked and the worker came in there immediately to fix it. It did take 45 minutes or so to get that done however that was not an inconvenience to me, maybe to others it will. It was handled properly and I commend the staff for that. The area around the hotel is pretty decent and one night I came home at around 3 am and I felt safe. Also, there was a restaurant downstairs but not sure if there were eaters as I didn't see any customers there at all. Since there were so many joints to eat at in the surrounding area I didn't order from the hotel. I'd like to stay here again if the price allows. I recommend it!

Very very sorry but all I am allowing my self to give is 1 *. We stayed here with my wife for 11 nights, booked direct with the hotel, no agencies or online providers. Price ? per room per night? 300 $!! no breakfast included. So there goes minus 1 * because 300 $ per room per night for 11 nights? for this hotel? it is a robbery. The room is literally a queen bed and hardly space around it, mind you we booked the most expensive from the rooms they offer apart the suites, cause we wanted some space. So room size there goes your next 1 * minus. Noisy very noisy on the 7 th floor we were checking if a car came to our room, so loud it is, we never stayed in a room with worsted isolation. Don't plan to sleep unless you are having hearing problems. They offer a can of coffee, that's it not a cake or biscuits no Sir, a can of coffee in the lobby where you can hold your self coffee free of charge. On Saturday morning I went 15 Minutes after 08:30 in the morning and they told me: " it is only until 08:30" ... really guys? By the way no Tee and coffee facilities in the room! well there goes the next * minus.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. The fact that it is called four star is a literal joke and embarrassment to New York's vibrant hotel community. I was booked in room 207 - which is well known to the hotel to have an issue with a water pipe that bangs throughout the night. It was so loud and rhythmic, I was convinced the person above me had brought an electronic drum kit and was decided to begin rehearsing at 5:00am (an assumption that I later realized made no sense). When I went to the front desk in the morning to tell the hotel about the noise - the very lovely woman at the front desk (we're all doing our best...) said, "are you on the second floor? What room?" I said "207" and she said "yeah I figured. It's a water pipe." Honestly - no harm, no foul. I'm chill. BUT THEN THEY REFUSE TO MOVE ME. They say they are at max capacity, but she first called her manager to see if she was able to move me. Also - either the photos online of this hotel are from a completely different hotel, OR not only is room 207 the room with the water pipe they don't tell you about - but due to the fact it sounds like you're sleeping in a remake of "Drumline" they have not bothered to update this room since 1956. SHOUT OUT TO DIRTY OLD CARPETS - apparently making a comeback at this fine establishment. So here I sit, writing this review to a water pipe that sounds like Travis Barker is now soundtracking my life. So once again I say - DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. And you might be saying "well I won't get room 207!" I guess only way to avoid is just make sure not to book what they call a "King Deluxe." ZERO STARS.

We went here for New Year's Eve and it was pretty fun. Besides the outrageously overpriced alcohol, we had a great time. The ad was kind of misleading. Tickets were $40 per person and there's an open bar for an hour starting at 9pm. But when we went to order a drink we find out that they only offer one drink for open bar which was this tequila based margarita tasting drink that was kind of gross. We didn't even finish the one we started with. Then I went to order a vodka soda and they charged me $17.45. Why the extra 45¢ I have no idea. But that was it. The DJ was alright. He kept everyone on their feet. All and all a fun New Year's Eve. Except for the misleading ad of an open bar because that's not true. They should have been more descriptive and specific saying that there's an open bar serving one gross tasting tequila based drink. Bartenders were nice. Ambiance was nice and dark with candles. I don't know if I will come back next year but all and all it was a nice time.

I adored this hotel!!!! stumbled across it on airb&b, the price and neighborhood looked ok, and I was in desperate need of a place to stay, so I booked it for one night. Charming!!! I promptly extended the reservation for the rest of my stay. Beautiful little historic hotel circa early 1900's. Staff is attentive and delightful, restaurant is really good, the lobby is beautiful and intimate --not so many people there, so comfortable to relax in during a pandemic. Restaurant/bar is a large, generous space privately tucked away at the rear of the lobby where they make a dynamite steak or generous salad and will take special requests (like an order of french fries, when you're in the mood for just that.) Who knew this little jewel was tucked away on E 32nd street? Convenient to much of Manhattan: Fifth and Madison Aves just steps away, and close enough to walk to Times Square and back! My room was small, but pleasant and very quiet, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was HUGE - love that prewar architecture and full bath! It is an older hotel so, sometimes things need to be repaired or need a little TLC, but all requests I made were met promptly with action and a smile. Miss you already, HGU...I'll be back.

Nice boutique hotel with personalized service. Rooms a bit tiny but well decorated. Unfortunately no coffee making in room. Breakfast a la carte or continental . Location very convenient

I came to the HGU as a Manhattan resident looking to get away from an apartment full of people for the weekend. Upon arrival, I was given no warning of lack of cable or that my room was above the rooftop bar. Mind you, I paid normal rates, which normally encompass the fee of basic cable. After calling the front desk, I was given a the response "you should have been told this I'm sorry" I checked out about an hour later, called to ask to be reimbursed and the hotel refuses. I understand it's challenging times for all, but this lack of strong customer service is enough for me to deter my loved ones from using this hotel when visiting.

Was it NY? Was it me? I booked at this hotel for a work trip as it was a reasonably priced mid-town hotel. I will sandwich my statements now with my experience. First, you must understand this is not a high-end hotel. It advertises and shows as a boutique hotel. And that it was. The quaint restaurant was dark and the drinks were overpriced. As you walk past that, you meet the front desk staff, who are friendly for NY standards and accommodating. The elevator felt cold and cramped. It was not updated at all which does raise the hair on the back of your neck stepping in it for the first time. The room itself was small and dark. While it did let a lot of light in at night, it also didn't let you know it was morning. This hotel was extremely close to the Empire State building and subway stop. For me, it was not my cup of tea. But for those that like something very boutique'ish, this is perfect.

Stopped by yesterday for a drink at the 1905 HGU Lounge. Beautiful and well decorated spot. Drinks were good. We had the French Mule and the Le Piscine. There was some live music starting at 7 pm and it was great. Very good service. This place was very welcoming from start to finish.

Had a great time a few months back at this aesthetically pleasing hotel located in Midtown NY. When I first got there, I had an issue with a double booked room during an expensive holiday weekend. My eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw the bill. The front desk didn't seem helpful, but I explained my situation to their manager on a weekend evening and he fixed the situation. The peace of mind alone was worth an extra star. The room was gorgeous. A nice hall way, bathroom, and bedroom layout. The only problem is that the iPod dock speaker was made for a much older model than what's currently on the market. The lounge had a nice layout and fireplace. A good selection of drinks as well. The only issue I had was that when I was trying to redeem my free drink (which I used on a french mule), the bartender that night had an attitude and tried to dissuade me from collecting it. I was having an amazing night leading up to that moment, so I didn't make an issue out of it, but it was highly concerning. I told him to make the drink even with the missing mint and he did it begrudgingly. I wish I could rate the Hotel and Lounge separately. Overall the place is convenient, the staff is friendly, the rooms are nice, and the deals are intriguing.

This review is for the LOUNGE at HGU. We went for the New Year's eve celebration and walked in without a cover charge. The place was very cosy with couches and ottomans everywhere. There is a stocked bar and the cocktails are very good. They let us sit anywhere without a bottle service. There was good music, a plasma to watch the ball drop, and their staff was extremely nice. The cocktails were $18 which is $4 more than other places like this but remember no cover charge and we could grab a seat wherever we wanted. There was music and party favors too. A nice touch was they passed around some hors d'oeuvres during our time there. The food was quite good from what we could judge from those appetizers. So definitely going back for food later. It was the perfect evening for us. Low-key-ish for NY and great music and drinks. Definitely going back for birthday celebrations and such with a small group :)

Stayed one night. Charged for 3 nights. When I called I was told no one was available to fix it. Customer service 101. Watch your receipts and think twice before booking.

This hotel is "ok" but not more. The location is very good close to a lot of great restaurants, bars and shopping as well as more "touristy" things. Beeing Manhattan the rooms are small and high priced. The biggest problem was not the standard or the rooms. The biggest problem was the dark haired women that had an overbearing servicelevel and couldnt take a hint about that we could manage on our own. We told her we could get our own bags up to the room but she took them anyway. Then she showed us everything in the hotelroom from how the safe works to the tv and climate control........ Both me and my wife travel a lot both in work and private and my wife has been a air hostess for over 10 years. We know how a standard hotel safe works (the same all over the world) as well as working the climate control. Im sure there are people that like beeing showed around but we made it pretty clear that we knew how things worked and that we wanted to be left alone. Not that she noticed. So end story. Hotel and hotel standard = 3 stars Overall experience = 2 stars

I stayed at HGU New York for 3 nights recently and I was very happy with my stay. The hotel itself is very artistic with beautiful artwork throughout the entire hotel. The staff was friendly and courteous and was happy to help us find our way around New York. The room was very well styled and clean, with nice amenities. Make sure to check out the rooftop bar for some great food and drinks and they even play old school silent black and white movies at night-- so cool! 5/5 will definitely be coming back on my next travel to NYC!

I stayed here for three nights with my fiancé, and overall we enjoyed ourselves. Positives: - The location is excellent. The HGU is very close to the 6 train, and it's also easy to walk to a lot of attractions, food, shopping, etc. It's right next to Koreatown, too, which gives you some great options for restaurants, bars, and coffeeshops. - The hotel is beautifully decorated. Loved the artwork in the lobby and the fur throws on the bed! - For being in the middle of Manhattan, the hotel was surprisingly quiet. We really only heard conversations if people were right outside our door. - The bathroom was spotless and the C.O. Bigelow products were great. - All of the staff members with whom we interacted were kind and helpful. Negatives: - The room was tiny. I know this is New York, but we could hardly step on either side of the bed. (The bathroom was surprisingly big though!) - The hot water in the shower got lukewarm at times. - The lounge downstairs, though beautiful, seemed to have unclear opening and closing times. We attempted to check it out at about 10:00 on a Monday night and were told it was closed. When I asked about its hours on Tuesday, I was told it was open until 11:00 or so. TL;DR: The HGU is a nice boutique hotel in a great location. Despite a few small drawbacks and a high price, I would consider staying here again.

Very mediocre hotel. The pictures online made this hotel look much better than it actually was. Only one elevator was working in this place when I stayed here. Walked out of my room in the morning after the first night and the hallway reeked of marijuana. Also found stains on the bedding, the curtains, and the sheets were ripped. Definitely wouldn't stay here again.

Beautiful hotel, amazingly helpful and friendly staff (especially Danielle at the front desk) and the room is adorable! I absolutely love this place! Not to mention the location is wonderful. I had the best experience here during my stay here in NY. Unfortunately, I ended up becoming ill my last day, but they were so absolutely accommodating of letting me do a late check out - no questions asked! I love everything about it here and I will definitely being staying here, again, next time I'm in NY! Thank you HGU hotel for everything! :)

Staying at HGU was fantastic for a whole bunch of reasons: 1. It's right next to the 6 train (33rd st) 2. It's right next to Koreatown (food, entertainment, night life, etc.) 3. The staff are SUPER nice. A+ Serivce 4. The rooms are very modern and comfy 5. The food and lounge are great! If you are looking for a boutique hotel in NYC for vacation or otherwise, this is a no-brainer. Check out the photos on their website and on Yelp. The rooms look great, the lounge is amazing, the breakfasts are tasty and convenient. There is a doorman 24/7, I believe. The staff were very responsive and quick to my requests. They made sure our room was available early as we were coming in before their usual check-in time. The King Suite is very spacious with a small entry with work desk, living room with couch, 2nd TV, fridge/mini bar, a walk in closet, big bedroom with TV and a good sized bathroom. This hotel has been very recently remodeled, so everything is new. HGU's bar/lounge (1905) is fantastically decorated. It would be a great place to stop in for a drink or secret rendezvous. They held a Jazz event during while I was there. Breakfast and the lounge are managed by a chef who also runs another restaurant in midtown. The breakfast menu is on point as well as the continental breakfast bar. Overall, I would highly recommend this for vacationers and business travelers. I hope to be back soon. OUTRAGEOUS! FALS ADVERTISING !!! The hotel manager Matthew Werner posted one of their hotel rooms in Zillow and Streeteasy as a "studio apartment" for a short term lease for $1,700/month, and as we stated at the moment when we exchanged emails: "We can book either MTM or a short term lease, whatever you prefer (price will not vary). Move in can be as early as this week." Once I decided to move forward, OF COURSE, they changed the price and details on the listing: - Increased price to $1,800/month -Added the following fees: "Monthly amenity fee of $100 covers Weekly Housekeeping, Wifi/Cable, and Utilities". But that was not it, when we received the receipt, because they couldn't make a contract as this is NOT A STUDIO APARTMENT, and to our surprise, the total was $2,067.03!!!! OUTRAGEOUS! They deliberately change information to their convenience, mislead customers and post FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!! Now I have little to no time to find a new place that would probably cost me more. Not to mention the waste of time and stress!

Let me start this off by saying that I travel for business at least twice a month and have never had such a terrible hotel experience. It all started when I arrived at the hotel at 11:15pm after a day of travel, only to be told that they did not have my reservation on file even though I had received a confirmation email from their hotel 3 weeks prior. It wasn't until midnight (45 minutes) that the receptionist was able to get me checked into a room. Upon entering the room, it was obvious that it had not been cleaned since the previous occupant. I called downstairs and they admitted it wasn't cleaned and moved me to a second room. The second room was set to 75 degrees (mind you, it's almost May) and the sheets and pillows had disgusting stains on them. I left first thing in the morning to attend all-day meetings and got an email from the front desk saying my room is right above the bar and it will be very loud that night due to their live jazz (note: do not stay on the 2nd floor). When I got back to my hotel at 10pm, my keys for my room did not work, (of course) so I had to go downstairs to get new keys created. As mentioned in other reviews, the rooms are extremely small. There are many other hotels in the area for the same cost with larger rooms and higher quality accommodations. Overall, the entire experience was filled with unnecessary stress and complications. I will never stay at HGU again and do not recommend this hotel to travelers that need a clean and reliable hotel.

I figured it out, the are definitely giving free stays to influencer types to review the hotel and post it on Instagram. This place gives me Fyre Fraud vibes. We paid like $230 a night to stay here and had an king upgraded room. The entry of the hotel and hallways are so tiny it's disorienting. Like scary tight hallways, like three feet wide. Then the rooms are TINY. I have stayed in many small NYC hotel rooms, these are a completely different level. There was literally no place to put my bag. It wouldn't fit anywhere so I had to keep it closed and zipped and and I couldn't get in and out of the bed. After the first night at least the main larger bar was opened downstairs and that did help out to make you not feel like you are going to have a claustrophobic panic attack. They couldn't turn the fireplace on in the bar and they didn't have any Cabernet. What bar runs out of cab? It's pretty standard. I could have possibly gotten over the tiny situation if the service had been exceptional. It wasn't. Also major problems include not having nearly enough plugs for one person to function in a room particularly if you had to work. Also no coffee maker in rooms or no free coffee in lobby. Waters would be great too. I mean come one, it's such a simple inexpensive thing you could do to provide guests with waters and coffee in the lobby and then maybe it might be worth it to pay $ 250 a night to stay in a closet. I always stay in boutique hotels when given the option, next time, and I can't believe I'm saying this-I would rather stay in a Marriott or a reliable chain that you know will have a luggage rack, an iron, free coffee and plugs. Seriously don't stay here, pay an extra $40 for Gild Hall or pay the same amount and stay at a chain that you can actually move in.

Could have not asked for a better hotel! So chic and clean. Great products and service. Beautiful accommodations right off of Madison Avenue - only 1 year old. New rooftop upstairs!

Hotel looks nice and had nice amenities. There was a problem with the air in our room and while we were accommodated by being placed in a sister property we were place in a generic Hilton around the corner. The new location was fine but not the boutique hotel experience we wanted. Gentleman at the front desk , while helpful, not pleasant and certainly lacked some customers service skills. No apologies and no warmth or humble attitude or empathy on behalf of the guest. Location is terrible, unless you live for Raman shops and the smell of hot garbage 24/7.

Was over charged and not given the details why. Got dismissed and received no refund. Horrible customer service.

I stayed at HGU for 3 nights and enjoyed the boutique hotel look and feel. The room was cozy and clean, with all necessities provided including slippers and a robe. We ate breakfast at the hotel every morning and every meal we tried was delicious! Except for the breakfast area, I didn't see or hear other guests which was great! The staff was attentive and welcoming as well. Highly recommend HGU!

HGU is now our place to stay whenever we come visit NYC! Im so happy we discovered it on our own. We had a short stay but we were totally spoiled by the generous, caring staff while our stay. The staff went out of their way to make our trip amazing and special. I was initially hesitant in booking, because there were not many reviews I could find online (this is mainly because they were going through renovations). We were lucky enough to be one of their 1st customers after reopening. Our room was perfect, modern, chic, clean, and comfy, kinda want to decorate my room with the that "Manhattan" vibe, feeling inspired! It's also a historic building, more than 100 yrs old so lots of charm and character along with some modernism and quirky art. Love, love this place! HGU, we can't wait to come back and stay with you! My mom and I were in New York for the night and stayed here. The staff was sooooo incredibly pleasant. Our room was clean and beautifully decorated. Location is super close to a lot and lots of public transportation. The morning coffee was also delish :). Would highly recommend.

***COCKROACHES ALRET*** I wish I could give them negative stars. Do not go to this hotel unless you like to sleep with COCKROACHES and 0 hospitality. You need to ask for everything twice to get anything or you will never get it. I asked the front desk for beer opener, waited an hour and asked them again to get it. Which took 2 hours total. I realized the fridge was broken in my room and told the front desk. They said they will send somebody up. No one came. No one showed up. I never write a review for anything and I would've just moved on, but cockroaches in a hotel??? I found the cockroach in the bathroom next to the tub. If you like cockroaches, this is the hotel for you and this is supposed to be a 4-star hotel. + the Assistant General Manager will never be in the hotel so don't bother calling for complaints. I've been calling him for 4 days now and doesn't even respond to voicemails.

Had a fantastic stay here! Great location, easy jumping off point to all the sights. Check-in was easy and all of the staff were super friendly and helpful. We arrived early and they held our bags and allowed us to chill in the lounge and use wifi. Loved the decor and vibe of the hotel. Everything was clean and new. Our room was a standard King on the 10th floor and was perfect for us. We stayed 3 nights and had plenty of storage room in the closet to stash our stuff. Having a fridge was great. The bed was comfortable and room was very quiet. We barely heard anyone else unless they were right outside our door. Black out shades made it easy to sleep in. Our room faced 32nd street and we had a peek-a-boo view of the Empire State Building. Bathroom was sparkling clean, and liked all of the products provided and the hairdryer. We loved using the HGU bathrobes to keep cozy. Would definitely stay here again - great hotel, great location, great value!!

An amazing hotel! Then bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. The room and bathroom were exceptionally clean. Staff were pleasant. If I didn't just move into Manhattan I'd definitely be back!
