A Guide to Vegan and Vegetarian Dining in New Orleans

"This ultra-funky, all-vegan bar, restaurant, and lounge opened in early 2023, filling a hyper-specific niche for a feel-good, plant-based cafe that strives for inclusivity, zero waste, accessible pricing, local food sourcing, and living wages. Try the Hi-Ballz sandwich, a $10 sandwich made with mushroom tofu from VEGGI Farmers Cooperative, pesto, and pickles, on focaccia from Bellegarde Bakery, or the hand pies filled with tofu or potato. Tons of sweets are 100 percent vegan, as is the soft serve. An impressive menu of mocktails pairs well with the combo deal: $20 for a sandwich, soup, and salad. Open Wednesday through Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m." - Eater Staff

Do not miss out on this gem of a place! Delicious vegan treats and luscious soft serve - I had a coconut lime cream pie and a small lavender-vanilla soft serve. The cafe itself is beautiful and vibrant, with tables, chairs or couches. Service was impeccable, so warm and friendly!

Had a great experience here. The person working seemed like they really wanted us there. We got a free sample of the oat milk soft served ice cream and it was delicious. They also had smoothies and lunch food. Next time I will try the food. My friend got the lavender tea and really enjoyed it. We will be back!

So far I’ve only tried the vegan soft serve ice cream but it’s amazing. Love the vibe of the establishment. The art is very cool. I look forward to coming back and trying the food & smoothies

I just love this place. Every time I come I leave feeling better. The drinks are unique and make you feel amazing. The vibe is great. The folks who run the place are super kind and I wish they were close to my side of town. They are now serving vegan food! I super recommend it.

I bought a sandwich, a cookie, and a brownie. Everything was delicious. The brownie was a bit too bitter for my taste buds. Think primarily cacao if that makes sense. It has a dark chocolate taste to it and I consider dark chocolate bitter (personal preference), but I still ate all of that brownie which speaks to the taste! I was offered a sample of ice cream and it was the best tasting vegan ice cream I have had in this area. Reminds me of Oatly. I will definitely be back here again.

Got the vegan burger, soup and ice cream and it was seriously incredible. Everything homemade from high quality ingredients or sourced locally from other local businesses.

I love HI-BALLZ! The space is so warm and inviting. The food and drinks are delicious. My favorite is the watermelon gazpacho. Nathan the owner is so kind and thoughtful. They often use the space to host community events. The neighborhood is lucky to have them!

Yelp
I found this gem yesterday while heading home from the office and feeling parched. I was looking for a fresh iced tea and Hi-Balls was perfect. I was greeted by Nathan, the owner, who was warm amd welcoming. His place is a great spot to take a load off and chill. Teas. Coffees, plant based ice cream, food and smoothies, mocktails, cocktails, aaaaaaaand.....free wifi! The interior space is decorated with Nathan's own, very cool artwork, and there is additional outdoor seating. Nathan offered me a taste of this month's specialty ice-cream and I was blown away. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
I came for an author meet and greet in conjunction with Tubby & Coo bookstore. Cute little place with a courtyard in back. I look forward to coming back and having some of the food.

We loved everything, absolutely EVERYTHING that we had!! Wowowow the art and ambience are perfect, funky, clean and humble. It's truly amazing. Great hours, easy ordering, friendly staff! Yelp
i started coming to Hi Ballz when it was called UxI Duxi before the pandemic. I've really enjoyed how they evolved through the years and have included vegan meals and desserts to their menu. If you enjoy teas, vegan sandwiches and ice cream, a fun yet relaxing and esoteric ambience and a friendly owner, staff, and regulars, then this is the place for you.
