Hi Hat - Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The old Pi Bar is now Hi Hat, a Mission spot for New York-style pizza. In addition to whole pies and slices, they have burgers, salads, and hoagies. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Julia Chen

Google
Very delicious yummy pizza. Large foldable crispy slices. Reminiscent of a jumbo New York slice. Few rotating specials and a few salads. Expansive drink menu: beer, wine, tap, N/A. Cookie was a nice warm sweet bite that the table could split up.

Google
Yum! I’m a pizza lover and psyched this place has opened up in a sweet spot in the Mission (Valencia + 25th, 2 blocks from BART). The pizza is as close to NY as I’ve had in a long time. The slices are big and you can fold and eat them! I have had 3 so far - margarita, a white pesto pizza with tasty asparagus, and a margarita piled with arugula. We asked for arugula and got a generous portion of spicy fresh arugula. Small selection of wine but that’s ok - I had a rose and it was crisp and dry. Tons of beer and cider on the menu. Large casual bar seating as well as tables and slices available.

Google
Love this spot! Gracious service, delicious pizza available by the whole pie OR just a slice, good tunes, beer and wine—great experience all around! Bonus points for creative events, and alternative to sports visuals on the TVs too!

Erica F.

Google
The pizza flavors and crisp bottom are just wow. The beer options are very solid, not going crazy but all the flavors you prob want (they have Pliny on tap!). They have tv’s for sports (lady sports too!). This is prob going to be my weekly game watch/ snack spot. All the food esp the salads and pizzas looked excellent. It’s def a bar vibe - so if you want more cozy date night, Angie’s is your spot — but it’s the best straightforward pizza / beer / wine / sports watch concept I’ve experienced in a long time. Thanks Hi Hat, I’ll be back!!

Cathy S.

Google
My favorite new pizza spot - the great beer selection makes it a regular spot for us. We’ve already been back a few times!

Sierra S.

Google
This place rocks. Food is phenomenal - the chef uses local/seasonal ingredients and you can tell. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The pizza is the closest thing you’ll get to a crispy NY slice, thin crust and perfect. We had the Chinese “chicken” (mushrooms instead of chx) salad and it blew us away. Vibe is super cool too - laid back with a cool vintage feel - like you’re having some wine and a slice in your friends living room. Great music. Bartender recommended some killer wine. Can’t wait to go back.

Matt R.

Google
Well deserving of 5 stars. Perfect atmosphere with nice background music, but quiet enough for conversation. Staff provided excellent, friendly service. I tried a couple flavors of the pizza. Pizza slices came out promptly, fresh, and delicious.

Google
This new spot is such a gem! The pizza is so good (the crust is next level), and they’ve got a great lineup of beers and wines on tap. The vibe is super fun and welcoming, and honestly, the prices can’t be beat. Definitely a must if you’re in San Francisco!

Yelp
The pizza here is fantastic! If you enjoy super thin, crispy crust, then I highly recommend this spot. This may be my new favorite pizza spot in SF. My partner and I dined here on a Friday night, and we got seated immediately. Since it was our first time, we decided to order a slice of each type of pizza - pepperoni, jersey tomato pie, mushroom pie, spicy vodka & stracciatella. Our favorite ended up being the spicy vodka & stracciatella, which was so flavorful and delicious that we ended up getting another slice of it afterwards. There's a decent variety of drinks available as well, including some beers on tap. Service was also super friendly and helpful. I also heard good things about the burger here, so I can't wait to come back to try that and get more of the spicy vodka & stracciatella pizza.

Yelp
Good addition to this area! The pizza is pretty good. I've had just the pepperoni so far.

Yelp
Not sure if this place had an off night as our experience was vastly different from the glowing reviews here. Photos of the pizza looked promising online and the menu sounded good. Vibe was cozy with a nice bar area. But service was severely lacking: we waited at the front for several minutes and in spite of making eye contact with multiple staff, no one came over to seat us or even acknowledge our presence. Someone coming out from the kitchen finally noticed and was kind enough to wave us in and tell us to sit wherever. After sitting down, we similarly waited several minutes for someone to hand us menus or at least asked if we wanted water, until we got fed up and just grabbed menus on our own. We noticed that parties coming in after us were seated and handed waters before we even got a menu and this lack of service was persistent as we watched these later parties get their orders taken first and their food arrive before us. I don't usually order salad because I think they're rip-offs, but I was desperate for some greens and the arugula salad lived up to this expectation. If the pizza were good, at least there'd be some saving grace to the experience. We ordered a slice of each pizza offered: pepperoni, cheese, summer squash, mushroom, and spicy vodka & stracciatella. There was literally no summer squash in the summer squash pizza. It was really more like a cilantro/mint leaf salad than a pizza. Mushroom pie was okay; the garlic confit didn't add much and there was hardly any detectable porcini flavor in the porcini cream. The cheese and the spicy vodka slices were functionally the same -- I couldn't tell them apart. Tomato sauce was nothing standout and I wouldn't even say the slices were particularly cheesy. My husband gave the pepperoni a 5/10. As for the crust? Sure, it was thin. But boy was it tough. There's a difference between a good crisp and just being dry and hard. I had to yank on it with my teeth to rip a piece off. I've had my fair share of NYC thin crust and this was just not it for me.

Yelp
Came for the pizza but definitely don't sleep on the burger!! I added mushrooms to mine after the bartender suggested I do so and it's definitely the move. For pizza we got slices of the mushroom and the vodka & stracciatella. They were both A+ flavor combinations and so tasty, but I think the crust was a liiiittle crunchier than I wanted (as opposed to chewy), I suspect because they were slices and thus probably reheated. I was by no means deterred though and scarfed my meal down so fast. So glad that another pizza shop opened in the Mission, I will definitely be back to try out the whole pies and beers!

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood! Nice place to grab a beer and a slice of pizza to watch the game. The pizza is good although I do wish it was a tad less crispy. The corn fritters were also good. Definitely want to try some other stuff. Great beer and wine selection as well. Staff is super friendly

Yelp
We popped in for dinner on a Sunday night, and had a great experience! Tasty food, excellent service, in a pleasant, though dark, setting (we loved the art on the walls)! My husband, 7 year old daughter, and I all enjoyed our burgers and fries. They were juicy and flavorful. They come medium rare, so I'd recommend asking for medium or medium-well if you're not a fan of medium-rare. My husband appreciated the selection of beers they had, and enjoyed his STS Russian River lager. I appreciated their selection of wines and quite liked my Deloach Pinot Noir. The service was excellent- attentive and detail-oriented. We appreciated that they checked if we were ready for a second round of drinks before our first round was empty. They were definitely kid-friendly and our child was one of at least 3 children present when we came for a 6pm dinner. They had an art show with awesome paintings on display. The space is dimly lit (I personally would have preferred brighter, better lighting). Overall, this is a great spot and we look forward to returning!

Yelp
Ordered a couple of slices here on the way back to SF since we saw it was a new location! We tried the pepperoni and mushroom pie slice and they both were tasty! Although they were not as fresh as I would have liked, they made up in flavor and the bread was top notch! Service was amazing, bar tender and staff really enjoyed the customers. They all were trying to do the best they can and they were extremely nice. Although I love the simplicity of the bar/restaurant I felt like there was still something missing. A touch of interesting decor inside would go a long way! Overall, great quality NY style pizza at a competitive price!

Yelp
Holy shit. Serious slices and a great bar. We had the spicy vodka (10/10) Pepperoni (crispy 9.5) and the Sunday special - Buff Chick (my Boston expat BF won't shut up about it). Didn't even get pics before we destroyed all 3. Will be back for the Sammy lineup and the cocktails. Vibes are exactly what we need in this town, un-pretentious, quick service, old school bar, perfect for a football Sunday. Will be back... at least once a week. Don't miss !

Yelp

Yelp
We found this new spot on Yelp for some late night pizza and we were impressed! It's new to the neighborhood, only open for about a month. The place is spacious and the staff is nice. We got some slices and they were on point. The dough tastes great. I bet their full pizza would be even better since it'll be more fresh. Slices have to be heated up so it's not as hot as I would like it. Overall we'd come back!

Yelp
Yummy pizza and friendly staff! Both pizzas were delicious. Also really enjoyed the Caesar w/ sesame seeds and hoagie. They had a bunch of beer on tap. Great spot for a big group. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Hopped in here for a second dinner. Was only going to get one slice (vodka and stracciatella), but it was so good we had to get another. Perfectly cooked undercarriage. Great topping ratio. Decent price too ($5.75). Cheese ($4.50) was also solid. Even had some basil on it. Great customer service. Bartender (Anna) was super attentive and friendly. Will be back!

Yelp
This is the best pizza I've found in SF (or the bay) in 12 years of living here. We've only gotten takeout so far but I had a beer at the bar while I waited a couple of minutes last night. They have a short but well-considered draft list and a solid double IPA that hit the spot. Really friendly staff. The hi hat burger was also ridiculously good and super reasonably priced. BUT THE PIZZA.. it's fucking nuts, like absurdly delicious. The mushroom pie is *fantastic*, but we've tried three types so far and they're all excellent. If you like a slightly less crispy crust (or if you're going to heat it up at home), they'll do a 3/4 cook which we think is basically perfection. We're greedily eyeing the three leftover slices from last night. So many pizza joints here try to tie themselves to NY, but this is the first I can say truly delivers on that claim. It's not just that though, it does make one think NY but they infuse their own style in a way that just works incredibly well. It's become on of our go-to spots by the second visit. Congrats to the crew that pulled this off!

Yelp
What a wonderful joint! The pizza was most definitely delightful with a great thin crust and the arugula salad was also very zesty and fresh! Their cider was also most definitely righteous and it turned out to be a great hang because the vibe was nice and chill. The service was quick and courteous and the bathroom was well kept, which is a sure sign of a clean place. It is good to see a small business like this flourish! Bravo!

David R.

Yelp
Super solid local pizza spot! Sat at the bar and had the Caesar salad with added chicken, chicken was super tender shredded and the salad serving was huge. Also had a slice of the pepperoni and the spicy vodka pizzas, and both were excellent. The crust was super thin but strong and crunchy so it didn't collapse under the weight of its topping. Felt nice and light and flavors were spot on, might be my new favorite pizza spot! Vibes are super friendly, go support this new small business in the mission! I didn't try a beer but their selection looked awesome too

Yelp
Wow. I used to come to the old Pi Bar. But the new Hi Hat seems way better. I really like what the new ownership has done with the space. A lot better vibe. The walls are light color which helps make the space feel more open and less like a cave. The floor is cork and looks amazing. They are showcasing a local artist instead of a bunch of random beer signs. The bathrooms are also a big upgrade fwiw. And then comes the food. I'm very impressed by the pizza. These guys seem to be hitting it with the New York style. Pi Bar was very good with their NY style. But this is better. I live in LA now and only visit SF occasionally. But I can't wait to come back. LA doesn't have anything this good. I'm also really happy that they rounded out the menu with salads, sandwiches, a burger, fries and appetizers. That was missing with Pi Bar. Then I have to compliment them on the beer and wine selection. Pi always had really good craft stuff so I'm glad to see the new place continue in that tradition. Anyway, really excited to see this new concept take off!

Ian W.

Yelp
Quite possibly the best pizza right now in San Francisco and the bartender/owner were so nice to us. Been three times and will def go again and again!

Michelle L.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times since it opened. I miss Pi Bar's beer list but that's my only complaint. The renovated space is looking so good - the bathrooms are a huge upgrade. I have not tried any sandwiches but every pizza has been delicious. I took off a star for the salads - they are fine but very very simple and I can do a lot better at home.

Yelp
Stellar beer and wine selection Very comfortable and pleasant atmosphere Kind welcoming servers Great selection of high quality food

Yelp
Hi Hat is hands-down one of the coziest pizza spots on Valencia Street--and it's quickly become a favorite for a casual night out. Whether you're grabbing a bite with family or catching up with friends, this place has a welcoming, laid-back vibe that makes you want to stay a while. Their Pepperoni & Scallion Pesto pizza is an absolute standout--flavorful, crispy, and just the right mix of bold and fresh. The Spring Arugula Salad was also a surprise hit: incredibly fresh, light, and packed with flavor. Hi Hat offers a great selection of craft beers and wines, solid vegetarian options and the service is truly outstanding--friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food and the experience. You feel taken care of from the moment you walk in.They also feature rotating exhibits from local artists, adding a creative and community-focused touch to the space. If you're looking for great pizza, fresh bites, and chill neighborhood vibes, Hi Hat should be at the top of your list.

Yelp
Nice mellow place with good ambiance, great beer selection and really good food. Bartenders are attentive and the vibe is overall good. Wish more people knew about it!

Jay W.

Yelp
We walked in for dinner without a reservation. The place was pretty busy, no available tables, so we (3) sat at the bar. The service was fantastic! The food was even better: we started with a yummy salad and had a whole pie (added pepperoni). Wonderful experience and plan to return.

Matthew M.

Yelp
My favorite new neighborhood spot! Low key vibes, good music playing, great food, and an awesome selection of beer/wine.

Nick H.

Yelp
This is my favorite pizza in the bay after living here for 17 years. The crust is one of the most amazing crusts I've had - it's flakey almost like it was fried. The place is also super chill, I love the big open bar to sit at, and the staff is very friendly. Great neighborhood place.

Latte Queen W.

Yelp
Well, this is exciting. I had been pining for Pi Bar, the nostalgia about that place was real. Now we have something better filling Pi Bar's space. And the name of this place is a fun whimsical musical reference. We tried four pizza slices: plain cheese, pepperoni, pesto, and mushroom. The plain cheese was definitely best, and may be in the top three slices I've had in the city. Pesto was just ok - the pesto was sort of plopped in the center of the pizza rather than being evenly distributed, which I didn't love. Mushroom was tasty, though the burrata on top was flavorless - just added a lot (perhaps too much) richness. My husband ate the pepperoni and he loved it, he said the pepperoni was perfectly crisp, crust was excellent (crust on all slices was excellent). This spot has a few nonalcoholic beers, sports on the TVs and several interesting menu items. Staff are relaxed and the vibe is chill, nice 80s and 90s music. I definitely plan to watch some Giants games here this season while enjoying Hi Hat's food!

Kirah C.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my experience at Hi-Hat! The ambience was elegant, fun and a great spot to hang. But the most amazing part was the food and pizza! As a New Yorker, it is VERY hard to find quality pizza here in the Bay for me, and I was delighted and surprised to see that Hi-Hat had done it! If you want perfect, savory NO FLOP, sourdough excellence, this is the place! Great drinks, service and staff - so friendly and nice crowds too - five stars all around!

M A.

Yelp
Nice spot for a drink with friends, a casual meal, or just to pass the time solo with a beer. I enjoyed my first visit and will be back soon.

robert w.

Yelp
Great service, excellent burgers, pizza and beer selections. Beautiful space exhibiting local artists. Love this place.

Cynthia V.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place. They have delicious food and great customer service. I liked the ambiance too.

Yelp
Hi Hat serves some of the best pizza in SF--the crust is next-level, perfectly crisp and full of flavor. Their cider and draft beer selection is varied and delicious, with something for everyone. The vibe is friendly and relaxed, with music at just the right volume. Whether you're on a date, out with friends, or flying solo, it's a great spot to hang.

Levi B.

Yelp
Bruh . Place just straight up smackin . This place might rival Tony's and golden boy soon . Really good NY slice like lindustry

Billy Q.

Yelp
Might I say a they got better pizza than outta sight. Mushroom pie was fantastic just a little floppy.

jose fernando a.

Yelp
Good quality and everything on time. I highly recommend it. The fresh taste and wide variety of options.

James F.

Yelp
Great NY slices and other food options that match perfectly with the beer and wine selections.

Yelp
I love this place! Hi Hat Pizzeria Bar is one of those spots that feels like a well-kept secret. Great food, good drinks, and a chill atmosphere make it a must-visit. So next time you're in San Francisco, swing by and treat yourself to a slice (or two). You won't regret it.

Paul F.

Yelp
This review is only for slices, as I haven't had a whole pie (yet). Easily one of the best slices in town, and my personal favorite crust. I'm a back East pizza snob blah, blah, blah and am fairly picky although I will eat any pizza. I like this better than Outa Sight (which is wonderful) and on par with Gioia. Very friendly staff as well.

Carlos C.

Yelp
Love going to HiHat! They really put their work in making the best pizza dough! Their pizzas are combination of classic and contemporary tastes that always light up my taste buds! The staff is always friendly and helpful!

Chris G.

Yelp
Outstanding crust and flavor. Thanks for a delicious pizza!!! Great find in the Mission!

Yelp
Cool location and the pizza is amazing. Also a really good spot to do some work and grab a bite. The staff are super friendly and accommodating.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Great, reasonably priced slice. The service was friendly and accommodating. The spot is filled with character, historic building, cool art, great music and TVs (with the giants on when we visited). A great neighborhood spot, will be back soon!

John B.

Yelp
Nice beer selection, friendly staff and excellent pizza. The vibe is warm and welcoming. Happy hour is a deal!
