All-You-Can-Eat Buffets Are Back at Detroit Casinos, Asian Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"A Sterling Heights buffet that continues offering a broad dinner menu — including prime rib, New York strip, salmon, shrimp, calamari, crawfish and even frog legs — and has its dine-in stations (including the ice-cream area) open for service, though it is temporarily closed on Tuesdays. Staff say few other operational changes have been made since reopening." - Monica Williams

Pretty cool place for all you can eat! My trainer is going to kill me! $23 for dinner. I love the bourbon chicken and the steak. I ate way too much. Everything is a little sticky but hey. What can you do. Also a family was hosting a birthday in the giant room! Which looks cool! I just didn’t want to impose on the family’s privacy. Ps my fiancé looks like he ate way too much. Time for early bed time!

The food is decent, but the hygiene of the bathrooms is unbelievable tissues everywhere. Just Nasty……for as busy there are they need to handle that

This Buffet is Absolutely Amazing - A Food Lover's Paradise! The moment I stepped in, I was stunned by the incredible variety! The seafood section was absolutely fresh - the crab legs were to die for, and the value for money is unbeatable. The sizzling sound of steaks being grilled on the spot made my mouth water. The Japanese food section rivals professional sushi restaurants! I couldn't believe they served lobster and grilled steak in the hot food section. The dessert counter was so good I wanted to take some home! The staff kept refilling dishes promptly, and the clean, spacious environment made the experience perfect. Getting this quality at such reasonable prices is an absolute steal! I've already planned to bring my whole family back next week!

Garbage at $23 a person. THE WORST CHINESE BUFFET WE HAVE BEEN TO in a long time. None of us could eat all the food from our first pass at the buffet. Because everything was substandard, bland liquidy, the rangoons were liquid inside. The Pizza was not even baked. It was a 100% dough. The egg rolls tasted funny. My 14 yo daughter was worried she was going to get sick. So nobody could eat their food. The pop was not a good blend of soda and syrup, so it tasted terrible. I thought it would be $16. Maybe like every other chinese buffet I've been to in my local area, but no, she brought the bill and I about crapped. Staring at plates of food that we didn't even want to finish from our first pass at the buffet. She delivered a bill for 92 Dollars for two adults and two children. Save your money and don't eat at this trash heap. Total trash. The photos are our plates from the first pass that were too gross to finish.

Very Nice place, handicapped accessible, kid friendliness and very inviting. The food is always fresh and very good. They also have a bar with a wide variety of cocktails and even private party rooms. Parking is always easy and no long waits. I would highly recommend 👌

Google
I had an amazing experience at this buffet! The food was super fresh, there were tons of options, and everything tasted delicious. The sushi, hibachi, and desserts were all so good. The staff kept the tables clean and were really friendly. I definitely left full and happy. I’m 100% coming back!

This is an amazing buffet. When I discovered they had all you can eat Crab legs and Pepsi I had to eat here. Will definitely return because the food was amazing and the Pepsi was spot on. It was calibrated perfectly. Love this place and the staff.

The overall experience here is very comfortable, especially for a weekday lunch. The dining area is clean, bright, and well-organized, with enough space between tables so it doesn’t feel crowded or noisy. It’s a nice place to relax a bit during a busy workday. The staff are friendly and attentive — they greet you when you arrive, clear plates promptly, and keep the food stations well stocked. Everything feels smooth and well managed. Combined with the reasonable pricing, this is a great spot for a stress-free, satisfying lunch break. I’d definitely come back and recommend it to coworkers.

Yelp
The Habachi Grill is a great value for the price and has a variety of delicious food, salads ans assorted desserts.

Yelp
Milestone birthdays call for tons of celebrations to dine out with family. Hibachi Buffet is a perfect spot for everyone! There are tons of selections plus a full Hibachi Station for a custom dish. Each diner is welcome to one pass for the Hibachi Station per visit. The restaurant's buffet station is huge and plenty of room to move around. The restaurant has three different rooms for rental and/or karaoke. One room accommodates over 100 people. One room accommodates 37 and has a red round table that seats 14. The room also has a mic and speaker. We finished the night with a fortune cookie!

Yelp
CASH ONLY. Credit card users have a fee applied to their bill. instead of the $22.99 price for the buffet, they bill you 24.37 plus tax. The food is excellent, but not worth $25.05. Snow crabs are on the buffet, but try to get some. Piggies are standing by the tray with tongs in hand waiting for the legs to arrive from the kitchen. I saw 3 oinkers load up their plates so nobody else got any. It was another 20 minutes before they brought out another batch. BTW, if you have a party of 6 or more, they tack 15% tip on your bill automatically. The bathrooms are filthy. The men's room floor was flooded.

Yelp
Food was amazing very nice lady sat us down and checked up on us food again was so good there was crab legs and they were literally the best would 100% recommend this place :D

Yelp
Just went to hibachi Buffet again last night. Everything was pretty good tons of food on the bar. You get a steak with your order, but they're very thin and I wish I wouldn't of tried it. They have a pretty good selection of sushi, no deep fried sushi this time either. they were very busy because it was a weekend evening, but the waitresses brought refills. I like their eggrolls, but I do wish they had spring rolls. We go to this location about once a month. It is nicer to go for lunch there is a better vibe.

Yelp
I drove into the city to watch the last Loins games of the season 2024. My wife and I wanted to find a place to dine in so we chose Hibachi Buffet in sterling Heights on VanDyke at 8pm on a Saturday. We were so disappointed in the quality of the food. The only thing that was appetizing was the green beans and purple grapes, not the green grapes. We tried to eat two plates of each items on the buffet but seriously did not enjoy the tasting of each entrée. The bill is $52.82 for two people and their credit cad machine charges additional $2 for paying by card instead of cash. That's a good gimmick in trying to advertise karaoke in the party room but the public dining room was annoyed by the kids squawking voices to songs. As my wife and I were leaving, I wanted to warn a group of guests that was entering this restaurant.

Yelp
Tried different things, a lot of it tasted like it was sitting there for awhile. I asked the waiter for water with lemon, didn't get lemon. It's not a big deal, but the food wasn't good at all.

Yoon p.

Yelp
This is the worst buffet i had ever been! The person at the door was extremely unpleasant, no greeting words, no smile, just plain mean spirit. Food, my gosh, not much of selections, and unprofessionally, ugly looking rolls, that easily loose an appetite. i was circling around and round, trying to fine something i can enjoy but it didn't happened. It doesn't even offered a senior's discount. It wasn't worth of $23 but a pot of tea, $1.49 was only thing worthwhile. Did i mention, i couldn't find any lemon, had to ask for it? Of course, we will not going back again at all!

Yelp
Before the pandemic, my husband and I loved coming here; honestly, it was one of the first places we chose to eat when restaurants first opened back up. Two years later, based on the latest reviews found here, we returned to see if we would be comfortable inviting our family to join us to celebrate a family birthday and were disappointed that the quality of the food was not what we had hoped for, and the booths, silverware, salt & pepper and restrooms were dismal. It's too bad, we used to love it, but we won't be back.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Loved the food . Super clean place and great place to eat at super recommend coming here

Yelp
Great service, awesome food. Nice ambiance. Nice people and good to customers. Must eat here

Yelp
After taking a bite of this corn I noticed it's rotten, I came here and was unable to eat. I wouldn't suggest coming here at all. Bad customer service and old food. When I asked for the manager to explain the matter, he said, "No, this is just overcooked," and he told me not to come here anymore. Obviously not coming here again.

Yelp
Super good orange chicken & shrimp ! Bursting flavor but over priced to go boxes and they taste yuck after a bit

Yelp
Ya know, I love a good buffet from time to time. After discussing this with a friend, we decided to go here and check the place out. Walking in, the place was pretty darn busy. We were seated by the hostess and I was immediately overwhelmed with the entire food selection here. So much to choose from! Do I pull up a chair to the buffet and just start eating like a wild animal? NO. I decided it was best to grab a plate and attack each section one at a time. I immediately skipped the salad portion (to healthy for me at the moment) and went right to the sushi section. It was delicious and when I went back for more, the one that I liked the most was out and they had something else in it's spot. UGH WHY! I got some really good egg drop soup, fried rice (which was DELICIOUS), noodles of some sort, and two different types of chicken. All of it was fantastic. My friend went with some shrimp along with a few other dishes as well. Overall, it was a good experience, but two things bothered me. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter, but there was literally signs everywhere saying "Don't waste food and only take what you're going to eat." Ma'am, this is a buffet. I'm not stuffing food in my purse. I eat what I can, and my stomach can only hold so much food in one sitting. Also, prices here are kind of high considering all the "don't be a pig and eat all the food we just cooked and you might have already paid for" type establishment. I mean, you charge $18 for me to eat here, but don't eat to much? I'll be the deciding factor in this!! Anyway, I would probably return but very mediocre. Food's good, lots of variety, but the prices are a bit steep.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Food and service were great. Wide variety of dishes including sushi, freshly prepared hibachi dishes, as well as all the typical Chinese buffet fare. Don't know why there are so many complaints about this place. Everything was great, EXCEPT a little pricey. The adult lunch buffet was $16.99 per person, more or less an average price, but perhaps a little high in my book. This was the only thing keeping this from being a 5 star experience. You will enjoy!

Yelp
I ordered food to go here. I never tried the food because I am not the biggest fan of buffets but my in-laws have been ordering from here for their parties and the food is surprisingly delicious. The service was great on the phone and since I never been there physically I can't really tell you how the place looks. I did order food for my daughter's bday and the portion and price was reasonable

Debi C.

Yelp
$21.99 all you can eat crab leg dinner! Except they didn't have any crab legs!!! Same price with or without! Will not be going back.

Duraid S.

Yelp
Food is not what expected, they don't refill anything only the cheap food and it's very dirty and then I was charged an extra 20 dollars when I checked my bank. They are a scam

Yo M.

Yelp
The food was extremely cold, people fighting over crab legs, the service was okay they took the finished plates away fast but they walked around the building constantly judging and talking among their coworkers about several patrons. The price was advertised as 21.99 we had a party of 2 and our bill went up to $52, we asked and they said there was a credit card fee, service fee, and so on ,,, definitely was not worth the money maybe worth like $15 if you only get the hibachi

Grant G.

Yelp
The place appeared clean, had to get the table cleaned. The food was Literally it wasn't nothing to brag about. It wasn't hot, they only had fried rice no white rice. And the drink was warm even with ice. It definitely wasn't worth $21.95 and the little to no amount of service they provided, the person who paid for the party was upset because the person who took payment wouldn't give her card back without her writing in gratuity. Like seriously lots of people place it on the table. Go check the table

R'Nita M.

Yelp
The service was very poor. I understand that they were busy but I've worked in done in restaurants, and have been busy, and still gave great service. They didn't clear our table at all but rushed over as soon as they saw us put our coats on. They charged my sister almost $10 for using her debit card. They tacked on gratuity, to ensure a tip but gave beyond poor service and dining experience

Sandra H.

Yelp
Horrible all you can eat crab, but they barely bring any out!!!! Everything was dry and no Season crab floating in dirty water so small it wasn't worth opening Shrimp not cleaned. Floor was greasy I kept slipping... I Will NEVER RETURN!!

Sherri T.

Yelp
The last couple times we went the price increased & the quality of the food declined. So many people hoard their plates with high end seafood items & never eat it. Way too much waste. They need to start charging diners for wasted food, maybe they can keep prices down

KoopaTheGamer ..

Yelp
It was perfectly meh. The place still had christmas decorations for some reason, weird. Half of the food was horrible, the other half was delicious. The karaoke didnt work half of the time unfortunately. Overall, meh experience. Not sure who I'd reccomend to.

Revaldo L.

Yelp
I went with my friend customer service was bad the first time we went they cussed me and my cousin in there language and the 2nd time I went the food was nasty the chicken had a lot of fat in it we wanted yo try more food some food look likes it was there for a week and microwaved the sea food did not look good at all I don't recommend this place at all in my opinion

Yelp
With high hopes my family and I walked into this restaurant and waited 10 minutes to be seated. As we're still waiting patiently, this larger group came in and was behind us. When the hostess came up he asked us how many people we had. Then walked behind us and asked the group how many people they had, then proceeded to sit the group. My family felt embarrassed and felt like we're aloud to be there.

Amanda K.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE!!! THEY ARE THIEVES!!!!!! Phone was stolen, but location was still there. Someone was answering the phone and texting us back. They let us watch the security footage but not the whole footage??? Why not if you have nothing to hide? So we called the cops & they wanted the footage as well but then they wouldn't let us watch the footage anymore. Then told us to go check back where we were sitting again and it was in the booth behind us shoved into the cushion(it was not there before the cops showed up, we checked everywhere). They only gave it back because the cops showed up. Food is TRASH anyway, find a different restaurant. But if you really are hellbent on eating here at least watch your things or you'll be missing something when you leave. Horrible.

Yelp
Although I'd like to jump in joy and say, "oh, it's sooo good you should definitely try it," there are some things that I don't like. 1. Food is good, but sometimes I feel like I'm getting the same thing over and over again. 2. They have Christmas decorations still out. This weirds me out because it's the middle of July, but hey! Christmas in July is celebrated here I guess! 3. Me and my dad come here about every three months. We aren't the regular customer, so we can't really gauge on how good the service is since we get our own special room and don't have to pay (my dad works in the tax field which means most of the restaurants I go to we don't have to pay cause my dad does their tax stuff). 4. Not enough food options. I am somewhat a picky eater so it would be helpful to have more food options. 5. I went to get a Coke and a worker told me she'd do it herself. I let her get the drink from the back and when I returned to my seat I found out there was a hair in it.

W W.

Yelp
The food is pretty good. Have a problem with the servers in the dining room having little hospitality. They make you feel like after one round of food you have to leave. The place has rarely been full when we have been there. I also am put off by the fact they practically beg you for a tip. I am ok with leaving something for their efforts, but we had one server outright ask for their tip and another walk with us to the cash register area and have a hand out for a tip when she gave me back my change. This environment is not good for building business.
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place. Food was decent, it was a bit pricey though. Christmas decorations still up in aug. We were nearly done with our meal when my fiancé went to grab sushi. There were live cockroaches sitting on the buffet. I'll never go back. You shouldn't either.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
I Was there a today and the lady wanted me to tip heavily and I don't like that and I tipped all the cash I had on me ($5) and she proceeded to ask me if I was joking then went over to her friend or colleague and started talking crap about me and my family in there language. I'm absolutely disgusted with this new age tipping when all she did was refill our drinks once in 2 hours and take our plates. My usual tipping is around the $5 to $10 range and I never had a problem in other restaurants but these entitled women that work here are absolutely unbelievable. Never will I be back here.
google avatar

Brittany L.

Yelp
food was horrible. I didn't even eat. this is not hibachi food. it looks dirty. it was all around disgusting. i dont know who would go here willingly.

Yelp
I am writing this review three hours after leaving this place on Thursday, 9/29/22. I had diarrhea two hours ago, and the food here was the only thing I ate today. My fiance also had diarrhea and we both have stomach aches shortly after leaving this place. Weekday lunch is $15. I came here about a year ago when I first moved to Michigan and it was $12. I would expect a place like this to cost $8-$10 but I know prices have gone up everywhere so that's no longer the case. Note that if you have 6+ people, they will charge a 15% gratuity fee. They also charge you an extra 2.8% if you pay by credit card. They call it a "cash discount" but really seems more like tax evasion. So the prices you see on their menu are the "cash" price. Though a lot of Asian restaurants and bakeries do this. Anyways the food variety is mostly of a typical Asian buffet - you got the nasty baked cheese seafood, triple french delight, and a bunch of greasy/fried foods. The sushi selection was 90% california rolls (fake crab + avacado) with a random topping and that's it. Sad to see such a limited amount of noodles, rice, and stir fry - but the food was heavily geared towards Americans and not Asians. The labels did not match a lot of the food. They had four different soups and four different hot pots. Not sure if the steam buns were filled because the labels weren't accurate. Did not see any pork buns, custard buns, mung bean buns. Did not have taro soup but maybe that is not a thing in this part of USA. Cleanliness - Some of the plates seem dirty with caked on food that was not washed off completely, so you should always check your plate (same applies to all buffets). I did not notice any bugs like some people had mentioned. I am not sure whether they supply you with utensils when you sit down, but we did not receive any. They also only had spoons and knives up where the food is, so no forks or chopsticks... I think they may have just forgotten to give us a set though. Overall I would not eat here again. This has probably been the worse Asian buffet I have been to. Regret giving this place a second try. Will need to try Fuji Buffet again (more expensive than this place) and compare but I don't think it'd be hard to beat lol.

Fawn S.

Yelp
Horrible experience was there 20 minutes no crab legs then they brought 1 small bowl out, had to beg for refill of water, was there an hour and only got 1 small cluster of crabs my husband got none, charged a $3 credit card fee that was not told or posted anywhere.sushi had what appeared to be mayo and nasty sauces all gobbed all over it, crab ragoons tasted like the cream cheese was bad was very sour. Waitress watched as I signed receipt grabbed the tip as soon as we put it down didn't even sign receipt yet. Will never go back. They never did refill crab legs the whole time we were there after that one small bowl.

Armani B.

Yelp
we made party reservations, pushed it back an hour! then we had to ask them 10 times to clean the table. they kept complaining that it's under the glass.... am i the customer? clean the table! food was decent for it to a buffet, it was seasoned. however, we got the karaoke room and the wifi was TRASH! it went out 5 times.

Zr A.

Yelp
Concerns are raised about the hygiene of this place, as cockroaches crawl around diners' utensils and also near the beverage dispenser. No one seems to be cleaning up the hygiene here. I even saw them cleaning moldy grapes to serve to the customers. Eating here is a gamble on not getting sick. Why isn't there an institution to manage restaurants with such poor sanitation? If anyone falls ill after eating at this restaurant, watch my video; they should be held accountable for you.

Askaboutreee

Yelp
Food was absolutely disgusting customer service was terrible, waiters were throwing away food we never finished eating bad attitudes kept assuming we weren't going too pay for our food kept interrupting everybody while they were eating

Angela T.

Yelp
Worst food/service absolutely NASTY FOOD. never go here it's over priced and they don't care how the food is they're scamming people over here. I ate maybe 3 things and left after 10 minutes. Unreal EWWWW my mother in law threw up in the bathroom immediately after

Viviana T.

Yelp
Was basically forced to tip We did not like that. been going for so many years and has never been an issue but the lady gave me an attitude about tipping
google avatar

Susan C.

Yelp
Was just here yesterday. May 2, 2023. We used to love this place. Especially how clean it used to be. We had not been in about 8 months and we were very disappointed. I think it was the dirtiness. Everything you touch feels dirty. Like a build up of dirt. I touched the napkin holder to get a napkin and immediately had to go wash my hands. It had not been wiped down in minimum a several months. No lie. It was disgusting. We won't be dining here again. They need a DEEP cleaning on EVERYTHING. They also need to routinely every night at closing wipe down the napkin holders & door knobs. They seem to be the two things most neglected .

Donald S.

Yelp
Very clean. Not excellent good. Salmon looked good, but I don't think it was completely cooked. Hibachi steak was over cooked, good flavor though. Fantastic ice cream !!! Staff was very attentive Price was too high for a buffet. Extremely surprised at $19 for an weekend evening buffet.

Shannon N.

Yelp
food was not that good and service was terrible. "21.99" per person for dinner just to be rushed out and had the nerve to ask for a tip which is ridiculous because I had to ask for my water to be refilled if i wanted more. (21.99 is in quotes because somehow the bill turned out to be 50??) would give zero stars if possible.
google avatar

Lauri J.

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch here today for the first time. Most of the fried food was tough to eat, not much flavor either. The only thing I actually enjoyed was the pepper steak. Mac and cheese was full of oil and tasteless. When we got the bill we were charged a convenience fee for using our credit card. They never mentioned it beforehand which they are suppose to do or I would have paid with cash. All in all it's really not worth the money. Almost 40.00 for lunch. Probably won't return.
google avatar

Yifeng Q.

Yelp
Very nice food and affordable price. Like the restaurant. The owner might think about adding some sushi rolls.

Annette D.

Yelp
1st time to eat here. Everything was excellent except for a few little hiccups but no big deal. Long line on a Saturday to get seated at 5:40, but went quickly (not even 10 minutes). Host said 20 minutes and it wasn't that long at all. Food was excellent along with waitress. Who was hustling and working avatast is she could and all the others. The only warning I would give is about the buffet price. Dinner what's supposed to be $17.99 Unless you want the crab , legs and other seafood items like mussels which we did not want. But you don't have a choice everybody has to pay $20.99 which makes no sense according to the menu. Even though it says dinner $17.99 you can't get it for that. I don't agree with that at all. Gouging the customers.

NicoleM O.

Yelp
The wooooorse customer service 1st they Charge 15% Gratitude on A FOUR TOP without my permission then came over to the table and yelled in another language to the servers in the who was also standing over the table. (Good thing I informed them I'd use my Google translator) Well in another language they commits to insulting and racially profiling a group of individuals. There was Cross contamination EVERYWHERE in the food area. And signs saying they'd charge more if THEY felt you were wasting food AT THE BUFFET you already was paying $28 for. Oh and don't think you'll get a receipt if you pay Cash.. because you won't. Guess that's there way of not reporting income..or at least it can be alleged considering all the bad business practices I witnessed

Winter B.

Yelp
I won't return. My stomach started hurting immediately after I walked out of the building I've been in the bathroom since I left, the food was not good. Everything tasted off. The buffet near me is like $5 cheaper with fresher food and better service. The lady left my dirty plates on the table most of my meal. She charged my card, set it down and started hovering over my table for me to sign the check but couldn't get me a water. When I asked for another water she brought it back warm no ice and something floating in the bottom.

Yelp
I'm in search of the best buffet since my favorite one in Southfield closed down ...I was pleasantly surprised with Hibachi Grill so this may be my new go-to! They have a lot of food options. The food could be warmer, hot even, but it tastes fresh and not like it's been sitting out all day. I saw the staff constantly refilling food items as they got low. My friend and I went on Monday and the price was great at $13.99. I believe crab legs are available on Friday for a higher charge. There is a sushi station, and a hibachi grill although I didn't see anyone on this station assisting customers. I was happy to find out they have hot jasmine tea, since I was a little sick with a sore throat it hit the spot! Lots of dim sum options. I ate all the food I put on my plate which is rare at a buffet because most times the food tastes stale, but not here. I would definitely frequent this buffet when I'm in the mood to eat all I can!

Yelp
We did not have a good experience. The wrapped silverware had a filthy spoon inside. The salt and pepper shakers were so disgusting my hand stuck to it. There was a sign stating buffet $17.99, 1 lb crab legs $24.99. We assumed incorrectly that for $24.99 it would include buffet and crab legs. We were shocked to be charged $42.98 each. For that price we could have eaten at a much nicer restaurant and not served ourselves. We will never return and we hope the health dept. inspects their kitchen and closes them down. If you see filth at the table you can only imagine the kitchen.
