Hibernian Irish Pub & Restaurant

Went for lunch with my mom and friend and it was surprisingly quiet for a Sunday at lunchtime. Good vegetarian options, my friend enjoyed the black bean burger on pita. I loved the firecracker shrimp Mac and cheese. My mother enjoyed her Irish breakfast very much as well. We shared the spinach dip and that was a nice starter. This place is great, been around for ages, has a good St. Patrick's "bloc party" and service is friendly. It could use some upgrades on seating for the lower levels. The chairs and booths show their age and aren't the most comfortable.

Google
This place is super cool! We loved the rooftop bar and decor. Service and food were both good. I got the brunch and would like to try something else next time as I think I would like their traditional menu more

Meg S.

Google
We loved eating here! Food was 10/10 and the people are so kind & accomodating. Highly recommend!

Beautiful place! We loved the rooftop. Relaxed atmosphere. They know how to pour a Guinness and the food was great too!

Hibernian Irish Pub on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh is a fantastic spot for a laid-back, fun night out. Serving lunch and brunch (10am on weekends) from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m., the pub serves food until 1:30 a.m., making it a great option for late-night bites. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant, with plenty of energy, especially on weekends. Seating offers a variety of vibes! Sit in front of fire on cool nights, or open air indoor seating, a cozy nook, a private snug , and rooftop seating options something for everyone. The menu offers a mix of classic pub fare and Irish-inspired dishes. You’ll find hearty staples like fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, and burgers, all of which hit the spot after a few drinks. While it’s not fine dining, the food is flavorful and satisfying—perfect for what you’d expect at a pub. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and efficient. Whether you’re stopping in for lunch, catching a game, or winding down after a night out, Hibernian has a welcoming vibe that keeps locals, vacationers, and business travelers coming back. It’s a great spot for casual drinks, comfort food, and a lively pub experience.

Google
We do luv a good Irish Pub and this one did not disappoint! Our waitress Camelia was very friendly and wonderful! She let us know the portion sizes are huge, so like always we shared. If you find yourself in downtown Raleigh go and have a pint and some Bangers and Mash!

Google
Came here last night after a few drinks at Dram and Draught and the food was excellent! Wish I took a picture but the fish and chips were great and my partner’s wings were great! Even better than that was the gentleman working late-night wearing glasses. SUPER kind and helpful - helped us move tables right away and got everyone’s order spot on without writing anything down. Very on top of service and just a breath of fresh air! Thanks for providing a nice dining experience for us, Hibernian 😇😇😇

Google
We enjoyed the upstairs outdoor area. Nachos were good. Great staff!

Yelp
Hibernian has that perfect dim, moody glow with its red leather booths, bookcases stuffed with old novels, and Irish memorabilia tucked into every corner. It feels like stepping into a pub in Dublin. Cozy, intimate, and full of character. A perfect spot to unwind with a pint. My husband and I went for a date night. We shared the garlic shrimp app, I had the salmon entree and he had the bangers. For drinks a Guinness and Hugo spritz. Everything was yummy, the garlic shrimp a little overcooked but still great flavor. We saved room for dessert and I am glad we did. The cheesecake served warm was a true delight with ice cream. Paired with Irish coffee this is a must! Looking forward to another visit!!!!

Yelp
Our experience here on Saturday truly was just okay. It's been a while since I've visited Hibernian but I've always had positive memories from it. On this visit, we went on a Saturday afternoon. It was moderately busy but not too crazy. We sat upstairs on the patio. The weather was perfect for it. Our server was nice but I believe at some point she forgot to put our food order in. To the point that we were just going to cancel it and head out because we had been waiting so long. Again, not sure if it was the server or the kitchen that was the cause of the delay. The food was fine. The drinks are standard that you would expect from a bar. Overall, a nice place to go and have a pint but that's about it for me.
google avatar

Toby M.

Yelp
This is one of our "Go To" places when the weather is great and we want to enjoy a pint! We love the rooftop deck with the jasmine and planters, and sunshine on a glorious NC day. The staff have always been super warm and welcoming, although sometimes service can be a wee bit slow. The Guinness is good and their Bloody Mary is pretty good. Occasional live music : ) We have eaten here several times and quite like the fish and chips.
google avatar

Rashad I.

Yelp
It's been quite some time since I last ate at the Hibernian. I guess fate has its way of guiding us when hunger strikes. The wings were absolutely tasty and the burger was cooked to absolute perfection. You might say it's just a burger, but was your burger hand patted and seasoned to perfection? Exactly! So come down with a friend, grab a few drinks and enjoy the music. Ask for Justin he was great
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Everything was great except that we waited for more than 10 minutes with an absentee hostess even though we were told three times that someone would be with us shortly. We were seated in the upstairs dinning room. Our waiter was great: attentive, great communicator, polite and friendly. We split ground beef nachos as an appetizer. They were delicious. I had Bangers and Mashed--one of the best I've had. They are served with three large onion rings. The restaurant is very well decorated with a library theme. The restaurant motif takes you back to the 1920s.
google avatar

Ronni S.

Yelp
Fish and Chips never disappoint. Good brews with fair prices. Attentive wait staff. Lovely atmosphere.
google avatar

George M.

Yelp
Their draft beers are watered down. I thought it tasted off so I went to another bar and had the exact same beer there and it tasted richer and better at the other bar which verifies Hibernian waters theirs down. And the fries had no salt. Everything was bland and tasteless. What a way to end 2025.
google avatar

Geneva S.

Yelp
Justin was great ! We got the wings and burger, the habanero bbq sauce was out of this world!!!!
google avatar

Trista W.

Yelp
I don't know. This place could use a good DEEP CLEANING. It's probably more of a last stop than a destination. I didn't get a good vibe on ordering food, the menu looked incredibly large and I've watched enough Gordon Ramsey shows. Service was good. No issues there. Only got beers.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
For historical reference this review has always been five stars. Not sure what has happened. The wings are HUGE (massively large) and undercooked. I've never been a fan of jumbo wings and the wings here in the past used to be perfect. Service is absent and just sit anywhere is the norm. While you sit you wait to be seen. I ordered 16 wings and I swear it felt like 16 piece turkey-hen wings. What in the frozen bag from Walmart wings were these?!?!?! Yall have gotta do better. It's been real!!! But I'm out. It was good once upon a time.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
I was craving a burger and was not disappointed in an Irish pub. Burger and beer were great can't imagine how awesome the fish n chips must be! Loved the atmosphere too. I'll definitely come back on my next trip to the area.

Oliver S.

Yelp
Raleigh staple. Ate at this restaurant during non-peak time (Tuesday evening). Very fun, good food, friendly staff! Ordered the Shepards pie. Will be going back!

Yelp
Our first night in the city and while we were walking, we popped into this lovely Irish pub to check out their balcony on the second floor. While there we happen to run into Keith one of the managers and had a delightful conversation with him! Because of that interaction it let us come back a few days later to actually enjoy a couple of beverages on the beautiful balcony. This location is very large with seating upstairs and downstairs, including bar, seating and balcony seating as well as plenty of tables for larger groups. Our drink of choice is always harp as we have a hard time finding it in our local stores so always enjoy having it fresh from the tap. We also experience the chicken wings With the Cajun rub. They were delicious.!

Erin B.

Yelp
Martha was one of the sweetest servers i've ever had. She gives quick service while being so positive and kind. Will definitely be coming back here.

Juliana M.

Yelp
We got nachos and the chicken was super flavorful! Martha was our server and she was so sweet and genuine!
google avatar

Debra R.

Yelp
We stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon about 2:00. Not many people were here. We were greeted by Allison and she was doing everything. She refilled our drinks so quickly. We had a cheese steak and a salad. I wish they had more gluten free options besides salad. My husband likes his sandwich. I wish there was more bacon on my garden salad.
google avatar

Danielle V.

Yelp
Cool irish bar. We had drinks and food and it was really good. The service was great as well. They have a rooftop bar, a bar downstairs and another side area. Lots of seating and cool places to hang out. My favorite thing was the steak and cheese egg rolls!
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Martha was awesome! Best service I've had anywhere in awhile. Will for sure come back.

Yelp
Beautiful cozy Irish pub. It was everything you wanted in a pub. You definitely feel like you're in a different world. Dark with books shelves and a roaring fireplace, and corner seating areas where you can talk with Friends with privacy. The staff is super friendly and they even have a private room that one day I have to come with the group and sit in, it holds about 10 people, and it feels like you're in a private upstairs den of an Old tavern. We ordered the Reuben and it came with perfectly swirled rye bread. It was very delicious. Come and check out this little Irish treasure.

Ericka R.

Yelp
From start to finish - JUST BAD customer service. No greeting or acknowledgement when we entered the establishment around 5p on a Sunday. Had to ask how to get to the outdoor rooftop seating area. Were told to go upstairs and seat ourselves. We went up and sat ourselves. Waited 20 minutes. Asked the one server - who made initial eye contact and even smiled, but never came our way to simply tell us we were on the side that the bar staff attends to - about ordering and she told my friend to just go to the bar. Entered the bar to ask for assistance. Were told they didn't know we were out here. So, nobody checks a seat yourself area? OK. Then the RUDE snarky server - Ace - arrived at our table with a "what do you want?" Was very short with us and seemed to be extremely annoyed about who knows what. Was like pulling teeth to find out what's on the beef slider. Found out later (after I asked to speak to a manager and she said that she is one) that she was the floor manager. Obviously, NO customer service training, at least not retained. Unacceptable. Oh, did I mention the person who brought our food out set it on one side of the table - all in front of my friend? And when asked for 2 small plates and utensils - she sat all of that in front of my friend as well. That wasn't even about poor customer service, it was an intentional slight - and I don't care why. Even though we asked RUDE with attitude server/floor manager Ace about her sour demeanor, she acknowledged nothing, other than the wait had to do with her waiting for us to have time to review the menu. WHAT? And said she didn't think she had a bad attitude, that it's just how she comes across. WHAT? The actual restaurant manager, Sara, shows up mid-way of our meal, and after realizing this was a serious issue from the time we entered the building and that we weren't taking it lightly, she sat and began to listen to us about our experience. She reluctantly (or so it seemed) offered a gift card - which meant nothing to me, as I said I wouldn't be back. Then she offered to comp the entire meal. Thanks. The food was good -- but I don't show up to be treated poorly - and I certainly don't show up to pay for RUDE. I still won't be back. And let me say, three people, including Ace herself, told us that's just how she comes across. Again, WHAT? And that's ok for wait staff AND a floor manager?? JUST BAD.

Robert B.

Yelp
Says open till 2am, stops serving at 12am? Should probably update hours of operation on google

Yelp
I was so excited when I saw them on the bar crawl lineup. They had amazing tacos and drinks last year. Sadly this year they were disappointing. We waited over 45 minutes and our tacos hadn't arrived. The manager didn't seem as if he could be bothered to check on it or offer much of an apology. The server walked by hurriedly and once throughout the 45 minuted offered an apology saying they were busy. Truthfully they were busier last year when they offered better service, great drinks and food. I know for future reference to just pass by if this spot is on any future bar crawls. I sat and watched everyone else be served and get their food. Yet, we ended up leaving hungry. Thank goodness there were other spots to enjoy. We wasted way too much time waiting for our tacos that never came.

Yelp
$13 for 2 Tiny Egg Rolls cut in half? Owner needs a reality check.. they're good but they really need to consider increasing the serving size. Service also forces you get get drinks through the server who has (as of writing) taken 10 minutes to me a bottle of beer.

David L.

Yelp
North raleigh hibernian. Absurd $32/drink for old fashioned cocktail. Never paid this much in the finest restaurants. What a rip off. My advice is to go go elsewhere for drinks.
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
Overall I think that Hibernian is a good place to come have a pint and some food. It is designed like a traditional Irish Pub with dark woods paneling, floors and furniture, and even a fireplace as you enter. I ordered a Reuben, which is the standard in my opinion which all restaurants that serve a Reuben are judged for the other food. The sandwich itself was very good and came with steak fries. The service was pretty good as well. I guess the couple of things that took away the fifth star for me was the music which was just not good pub music and there was too much cheap advertising hanging on the walls. If you go to the trouble of making the place look like a real pub then don't clutter it up with cheesy ads.
google avatar

Ann E.

Yelp
It was St. Patrick's Day weekend, so, of course we had to drop by Hibernian on our visit to Raleigh. Sat upstairs at a table overlooking Glenwood Ave. Had a Guinness, of course and 2 sliders-Reuben & Fish. Both were very good, but I preferred the fish. Good service. Decorated as an Irish pub should be. Glad we stopped in.

Nick C.

Yelp
$6 build your own burgers on Mondays?? Absolutely bonkers! Damn good burger too. Decent enough drinks options, but, y'know, bar priced. Staff's always nice and accommodating.
google avatar

Lexi G.

Yelp
I ordered the grilled tomato panini, thinking it'd be a THICK tomato and mozz slice, but it wasn't. Our waitress, Haley, was amazing and she said I could add chicken or bacon to it. I added grilled chicken and it was still amazing, just on the lighter side. Paired with a side of Mac and cheese, and my supper was complete!!! I also ordered the cherry pop cocktail and it sounded better than it was, but that's because I'm obsessed with cherries and I can never have enough. My husband ordered the crispy fish sandwich and WOW. So big, flaky, and PERFECT! We ate on the rooftop and loved the environment on our second night as Raleigh residents.
google avatar

Kenisha R.

Yelp
The food hit the spot and the wait staff made me feel so welcome! I went out of my comfort zone and had a lemon drop shot!!! Fish was so big that I had to break it up so to enjoy it. Todd was the best bartender and you must go see him on Friday and Saturday to see his amazing hair!
google avatar

Brooke H.

Yelp
We had a great meal at Hibernian this week. Our cocktails were excellent and the Shepard's Pie was delicious. There was a bit of lag in service when we arrived though this may have been because we came a bit early for dinner.
google avatar

Falan E.

Yelp
If I had to have one reason to come downtown it would be for Hibernian. The food is the bomb. We came in on a Friday night after a cocktail. Everything was so so so so DELICIOUS I will be back and I'm telling all my friends. We ordered various appetizers to sample, Pub sliders, cheesesteak egg rolls, and shrimp. Perfect! As an entree, I ordered the fried fish Sandwich and the mac and cheese. Too delicious! You will never be disappointed here. I promise! I also had a Kettle One Rasberry Martini. That was also delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
We visited this pub in the early afternoon for drinks and appetizers. The decor and ambiance was great, but the food wasn't the best. FOOD: We got the dipping trio - the hummus was good, but the pimento cheese had an odd texture and the spinach dip needed some more seasoning. For drinks, we got the Irish gold mule and the indigo fantasy, which were both tasty. SERVICE: The servers were fairly attentive and helpful in answering questions. AMBIANCE: Great pub vibes; we sat on the upstairs patio and although the tables were a little worse for wear it was a pleasant experience. PARKING: Lots of street parking and some garages close by.

Jessica F.

Yelp
Honestly the most terrible service I ever had. They refused to give us more than one menu, had no cocktail list but said they could make anything. I ordered a Moscow mule and I got ginger ale with vodka watered down. If you don't have the ingredients COMMUNICATE that. Don't just give a half ass gross drink. Then the person next to us was smoking cigarettes going into our food while we're eating. Our server never checked on us and said maybe five words total the entire time we were here. We had to go out of our way to try to pay so we could leave.

Yelp
Sat 3/30/24 at 5pm, we took our 21yo son to Hibernian on Glenwood ave to celebrate his 21st birthday. Only + was they did give him a free drink. Otherwise the service was bad & the food was worse. Our waiter was really nice but had too many tables to take care of. Asked the food runner for water & she totally ignored me. After 5-10 minutes the waiter showed up & brought water immediately. Food was way too salty. Could not eat the mashed potatoes at all & the corned beef & Shepards pie were also uneatable due to the salt. combine that with no water & bad service = Bad Experience. ladies bathroom was nasty. wet floor & tp on the floor.

Yelp
I have to start with an important preface, I frequented this bar from 2002-2006. It's been a long time so grain of salt. On a Friday or Saturday night we'd start here and hang out for a few hours, go somewhere else, then finish the night here. This was at least every other weekend for 4 years. At the time the atmosphere was ok. I was lucky enough to have been friends and lived with one of the rugby players. This bar was the main sponsor of what was basically an intramural or club squad. Which was also part of the problem. If you weren't part of the men's or women's team or friends with one, your service sucked, to be brutally honest. One of the players was notorious for sitting in one spot like Norm Peterson, but without the affable nature, and just being angry at anyone who wasn't a regular. Yeah, Sean, I remember you. Food was bad, service bad, bathrooms were worse. As I say in every review for places in Raleigh, it was pretentious.

Bill C.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. The waitress Cara was friendly and attentive. Fish and chips to die for. Rueben was good also. Been here three times now everything was great everyone. Hostess was nice very accommodating. Make sure to try this place !!

Zach D.

Yelp
So, we first get there and it's not busy at all. The host at the front was a taller dark haired gentleman, younger guy who acted like he didn't know what was going on and was trying to put his vape back in his backpack while talking to us and still acting lost. We were seated and the same guy and then a girl stood there watching us and talking for about 20 minutes and no one ever came to take our drink order, finally my wife and I said something and a lovely waitress came and took our order and apologized, other than that, the food is absolutely delicious and the decor and lighting are wonderful and give off an authentic Irish pub look. Great beer and the fish n chips are unbelievably delicious and a great sized portion. Wonderful food and good ambience but the service and staff could be a little better

Brad H.

Yelp
Food Quality and Good Service!! Please Stop with the sticky surfaces!! Definitely Not Worth the Money!!!! It's dusty, sticky and Gross Definitely Not Going Back!!!!

Yelp
I've been to all the Irish pubs in the area but this one so it was time to try it out. The food menu was diverse enough that everyone found something to eat including vegetarians. The atmosphere was more of a club vibe, very dark and loud. I guess that's to be expected on Glenwood so if that's not your vibe go to the one on Falls of Neuse which I wish I had. The food was good except the chips were stale we got with the trio dipping appetizer but the spicy pimento, garlic hummus and spinach dip were great. Thankfully we had ordered the pita bread too which is the soft version like naan thankfully and that was better. My stepmom and I both had the Rachel sandwich and Omgosh, yummy. I could eat these everyday. The side salad was good too. My dad got the fish and chips (cod) and he enjoyed that a lot. He loved the fish. My husband got the Shepherd pie, his favorite, and thought it was pretty good though could have been a bit bigger. I wasn't too impressed with the cocktails. Way too sweet that you couldn't taste the alcohol or maybe I'm just a lush. ‍ The staff was nice and our waitress and runners took good care of us. Now, if you have more than four people there isn't really anywhere to accommodate a bigger party. One of our party ended up not being able to make it but had she come, I don't know how we would fit. Overall, it was a nice meal. Not my scene with my parents but they were cool about it.

Jesse G.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for one of his work meetings. They actually had all the food this time. Service was lacking, we had a waitress named, Brooke, Brooklyn? She did okay as far as service but overheard her speaking ill about coworkers to OTHER coworkers. We happen to like the bartenders and found it uncomfortable especially since they've been helpful to use in the past. Just a tacky feeling to an already struggling environment.
google avatar

Lexi M.

Yelp
Great pub and amazing outdoor area with a patio. The service was slow but it seemed that they were understaffed. The Philly rolls are a must try for an appetizer. The bartender explained a snicker bomb shot to us so I had to try it and it tasted exactly like a snickers bar.
google avatar

Sahib G.

Yelp
If you are looking for Chicken Wings around the Glenwood South area in downtown Raleigh then you need to stop by Hibernian Pub. They have one of the best chicken wings in the area. The wings are crispy and evenly coated with their house made buffalo sauce. For the wing crazy folks, they do .75cent wings every Thursday!

Taylor Z.

Yelp
I honestly don't normally leave reviews.... I have been working in the service industry for over 10 years. But genuinely this was the worst service i've had at a restaurant in quite a while. The manager 100% saved the interaction and was great, but the waitress working this afternoon (I didn't catch her name but she had like blonde and i think pink hair??) was 1. rude from the jump like she couldn't be bothered to serve us and 2. literally LEFT and never came back and before we even left we saw her leave with a friend like she just absolutely ditched our table it was bizarre. Didn't bring us our beers, took 15 mins to come greet us after the host took our drink orders. It wasn't even busy. So if you get her as a server... either leave or ask for someone else I genuinely was so confused at why she was being so rude. Definitely won't be back, which sucks because I normally enjoy that restaurant but that girl needs an attitude adjustment.... just nasty behavior

Yelp
Cool views of Glenwood. I mean come on, why else would you go here? It's pub food and drink. Not much here to report other than it will be a challenge to get full if you're vegan and much easier if you're a vegetarian/pescatarian. It's about that second floor patio baby. You will spend some time there just people watching and deciding where your next stop will be. Service is good and pricing is comparable to other restaurants in the area. If you're looking for an affordable dinner, then maybe stay away from Glenwood? Jussayin b...

Yelp
My wife and i really enjoyed the atmosphere, and food. The fish and chips were amazing and the service was great. We will be going back.

Ashley G.

Yelp
My group was able to come in and seat ourselves immediately, however to even have our orders took 30 minutes, then almost another hour to get the food. I feel bad because the waitress was nice but very hectic and mentioned she was the only one working downstairs all day. All of our food was cold, the black bean burger mushed and fell apart, and I know instant box mashed potatoes when I taste them. I'll try again in a few months to hopefully have an improved review.
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
No better place to kick off St. Patty's weekend. Went with a group of guys for Guinness and good food, and we were not disappointed. Loved the environment and everybody seemed to be having a great time. Server was nice and got food and drinks really quick. As for the Shepard's pie, absolute 10/10. Will be back.

Yelp
Great food, great beer, service? Nope. Came here on Thursday 7/16/2020 my first full day being in North Carolina for my first time. My friend told me she loved this place. Situated in downtown Raleigh it looks like your stepping into Ireland. Upstairs and downstairs and outdoor dining. There was nobody there but a couple sitting upstairs by us. The view and alone is amazing the food delicious! The beer nice and cold but the service? Wow our server was either having a really bad day or just didn't like people in general. Telling someone thank you is natural everytime I said thank you for everything I got nothing in return, no smile no thank you for coming no how is your food absolute silence and stone cold looks. Just a are you ready for the check? This place absolutely deserves 5 stars but service to me takes the cake I don't care if the food is not good if you wow me on your service that's enough for me. Three stars for your view and excellent food Zero stars for your service.

Yelp
This was my first time getting food at Hibernian, and I have to say, it is truly a world onto itself! While claiming to be an Irish pub, having been to an actual Irish pub in Dublin myself, the aesthetic was quite spot on. The menu, however... There were perhaps two or three items on the menu that one would find in a true Irish pub, such as corned beef, fish and chips, and of course, Guinness! However, that is where the similarities end. If you go to an Irish pub in Dublin and ask for a Philly steak sandwich, firecracker shrimp, or Philly eggrolls, you will get weird looks and potentially laughed out of the establishment! All this to say, although the menu was quite eclectic, the atmosphere can't be beat, the service was excellent, and there's nothing like chowing down on good pub food while watching the sunset from the roof of this Glenwood restaurant! I got the corn beef, which was browned to perfection and tasted amazing. It was served with garlic mashed potatoes, which in my opinion, could have used a little more seasoning, but we're still good! The cabbage was fantastic, well seasoned and just crunchy enough (I hate when my cabbage is overcooked so this was perfect!). I went on a Wednesday night, and they had several drink specials going: half off wine (I got a glass of Cabernet for just $3.25!), Four dollar Miller, and five dollar Appalachian Blonde. It was great because the bill wasn't too steep but we still got the downtown Glenwood experience. All in all, would recommend, if for nothing else than the rooftop patio area! Parking: I can't ever say this enough: never ever ever ever park on Glenwood proper! Always park on one of the side streets! Recommend: Cabernet and Corned Beef Don't Recommend: Mac & Cheese (wasn't bad, just wasn't great) Service: Five Stars!!
