Miss Ollie’s Pops Up with Fried Chicken at Elda’s in the Mission | Eater SF

"Her earlier gig, the now-shuttered Cal-Caribbean restaurant Hibiscus, is where Kirnon and Elda co-owner Alvaro Rojas first connected — Rojas was a bartender there — and that relationship helped spark the Elda collaboration." - Luke Tsai

I am horrified. We ordered takeout last night and we’re having dinner with three children & I bit a super sharp piece of hard plastic/ceramic/glass? Hard to tell but it’s definitely something that shattered in the kitchen and they didn’t even care to go the extra mile for safety to remake it. I’m SO GRATEFUL my children didn’t get it in their lo mein because they hardly chew and quite literally could’ve died. CRAZY.

The food came really well cooked nice and flavorful and nicely packaged as I ordered through DoorDash, however was still nice and hot when I got it the ribs are not really it for me, but everything else was very good

I've lived Hibiscus for years. When I first moved to Holyoke, I tried all the local places before I landed on this as my favorite. Their daily specials are packed full and have a lot of bang for buck. Most excitingly though is that they're piloting a buffet! The prices were really good. You pay for a take out box that you can fill to the top, which is an interesting concept. I think it was $9 for lunch, $12 for dinner? I was at first bummed about being limited but you can fit a ton - I got dinner and still had enough for leftovers. There was a lot of seafood and really well cooked meats (the chicken wings were so juicy and had that kind of Korean fried chicken coating). They had classics too - rice, crab ragoons, lo mien. They had small batches out which tbh I think is great so they can replace and refill more often to keep it fresh. You can eat there or make your box to go. My partner and I loved it and thought it was a really good deal! You can't even get raw ingredients that cheap! I hope it gains enough traction that it can stay. For those who haven't gone, there's a small parking lot with free off street parking. I've always been able to find a spot with ease. They take cash and card, but note that they don't take Discover.

The owners kid stole my Pokemon card Mega Charizard Y a few years ago and proceeded to lie to my face that he didn’t have it. He watched me cry about how mad my mom was going to be and told me “it’s ok I’m sure you’ll find it”. I heard from a friend that at school a year or 2 later, he was showing off the Pokemon card and bragging about how he stole it. I still don’t forgive him, he is a thief.

We love to try new places. This place was wonderfully clean with friendly service. The salmon was frozen and the rice was warm on the sushi roll.

Google
No to be rude, but it's literally the worst sushi I've ever had. The Chinese food is probably good but you can really tell they put sushi on the menu solely for more business, not because they are good at it. Just don't do it.

Google
The food was not good. I haven’t ordered in months. But the rice was dry. Seemed old. The meat was flavorless and now I have diarrhea and have been throwing up.

Google
Just a small little place, but service was quick, food was hot, very good. Didn't make me sick like most do. Got a menu, ordered and waited in the car. Maybe 15 minutes. Not bad at all. I don't do sushi so I can't comment on that.. Otherwise very good.

Yelp
Food had poor taste and chicken wings bloody. Would never return. Doordash ended up refunding me.

Yelp
I order from them once and to be fair it was all good. This days people do anything to get their money back and it's not fair to the people who work hard to get their business going.

Yelp
Went here for the first time in years. I didn't want to drive far, and this is, in my opinion, is the best Chinese food in Holyoke. I ordered the chicken in garlic sauce lunch. It tasted a little more citrus than garlic, but it was delicious, and the amount of food you get for the price is very generous. I also ordered a pork egg roll. Again the quality was really good, and it was very reasonably priced. Between the low prices, quality, and friendly staff, I will definitely go back again soon.

Yelp
Really good beef noodle soup. kinda like Pho noodles. Unexpectedly tasty, ample amount of good meat. Probably best within 100 mile radius. Lo Mein is adequate. Pad Thai probably is not my first choice

Yelp
Had today eat in chicken with peanuts. The chicken pieces were fried and dark sauces was very salty and lots and lots of celery. Will not eat this again - too much salt. 7/29/18- had General Taos chicken and pork fried rice and the rice tasted terrible. I had sushi and the rice was crunchy. We will not go back again. Too bad.

Yelp
We have been looking for a good chinese place for delivery in holyoke. Was hoping these guys would be great they are close, have japanese and chinese food. The reviews seemed like it would be worth a shot. However, their food just sucked. The fried rice was bland and reminded me of rice a roni. Crab rangoon were tough and made with egg roll wrappers. The teriyaki beef flavor was bland. Beef and broccoli was bitter and sucked. They get points for not making us violently ill and for their easy as hell online ordering. Moving onto the next place.

Yelp
The house mei fun had hardly any meat or vegetables and was just a huge pile of noodles. Not a lot of flavor either, needed a good dose of duck sauce. The spicy tuna roll was kind of gross, actually. The spicy tuna in the middle was like pate. The sauce was in a tub, separate, and there was no ginger or wasabi. It was not that good and I probably would not order from this place again.

Yelp
Horrible!!! They delivered old food to us!!! We are going to drop off the food tomorrow!!! Who knows, maybe that's what they brought us, food someone else brought back cause they were so disgusted. So disappointed!!! Gross!!! Gross!!! Gross!!!

Yelp
New Asian restaurant in the area. I frequented the former golden china at this location and the building had gotten very run down, so much they had to get out of their lease and move. The building was bought shortly after and has been renovated by the new owners. Very clean inside and welcoming. Tried a variety of items and the Chinese food was very good. I did not like any of the sushi rolls and probably won't order sushi here again. I will however return for Chinese. Prices seemed reasonable.

Yelp
I love coming to this place. Cheap food and the people are awesome. Seems like the only place i can get flavorful fried rice in western mass. Only down side is spare ribs could be better everything else on the menu is delicious

Yelp
Delicious as always! I always order the same thing all the time, the Tofu Ho Fun. Honestly, I'm usually a picky eater when first discovered hibiscus I felt like I would've regret what I order. But I was highly satisfied with the Tofu Ho Fun! I also love their spring rolls and avocado sushi rolls.

Yelp
"Is this business Kid friendly?" I sure hope so seeing there was a ten year old cashing me out. Why so much seaweed in the Miso Soup? It tasted like a washed up sock on the coast of the Pacific Ocean and not in a good way. Spicy mayo was good though. 3/5 stars

Yelp
Honestly the food had no flavor, and was over cooked.their boneless ribs taste like they're a few days old. Sushi definitely was not fresh.

Niki D.

Yelp
Wow! Ordered $30 worth of foood and will last my roomate and I awhile. Big portions! Ordered 2 eggs roll and I was impressed! They are a perfect crunch and they are a decent size too! Spring rolls surpassed my expectations! Ordered the sushi with the sauces and sooo amazing ... the spicy mayo was very spicy but hey it says it in the name. Maybe having a less spicier option available upon request! I ordered D 3 which came with crabrangoon, chicken wings and I love how they tasted. Love how they were open on snowstorm and deliver. They have an easy to use ordering system online Definitely was not disappointed and will be my default japaneese/ Chinese go to restaraunt! Did I mention that the prices are so fair!

Kelly K.

Yelp
The food was not good! The chicken fingers were doughy, the boneless ribs were so hard, the rice was very under cooked. Sadly with Golden China gone the only other good Chinese food is North China in Chicopee.

Yelp
New to the east coast and enjoying exploring new locations for dinner out and about - This place was great! Very clean and inviting - the owner was sweet and very attentive and polite - Each dish we tried was tasty, hot and savory. We will definitely be back now that we are living in Holyoke - this is a new business - give it a try - you won't be sorry

Yelp
Very pricey. Staff is friendly enough. Food, runs right through me and interestingly enough, it ran right thru my co-workers, as well. Never again.

Yelp
Our family of 4 stopped by on our way to the Hartford airport. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly lady who sat us at a table. The tables and decor are dated and stark. There was no ambience, no music playing, just silence. There was no working bathroom, which is disgusting! The spicy tuna roll was not good. Tasted like bad canned tuna wrapped in rice. The soup was ok. The bathroom thing though is gross, they shouldn't have been open for business without a working restroom.

Yelp
This has become my default Asian food restaurant in Holyoke for both pickup and delivery. Chinese, Japanese and Thai all under one roof. They have been more than accommodating with modifications as well. Pad-Thai noodles instead of wide, Bok-Choy in Tum-Yum, a custom sushi roll that is not even on the menu. Consistent well prepared and tasty food, and always delivered hot.

Audrey P.

Yelp
Great Asian take out spot in Holyoke. Yummy and cheap sushi fix! Also hibachi is solid.

Jane D.

Yelp
Terrible service, our waitress didn't refill our small cup of water and we had spicy sushi. Sushi was warm and mushy, the restaurant was warm and muggy with only one fan, cost us (2 ppl) $40

Kelly S.

Yelp
Ordered two dinners for delivery. Boyfriend's dinner had a very long strand of hair in it. Person delivering the food sat in front of our house and called me instead of knocking on the door. Why is this becoming the norm?

Tasha M.

Yelp
The food is so-so. Nothing special. Most restaurants have decent substitutions for pork but they don't. Even vegetables instead of pork fried rice is an extra $7 on a $8 meal. Duck sauce is another extra 50 cents. Then there's a minimum card amount. They Nickel and Dime you for everything. I hope they don't nickel and dime themselves out of business. They don't get much foot traffic and the parking lot is always empty. My beef tasted spoiled, so I can tell that it was old. I hadn't eaten here in years, and I couldn't remember why. I'm glad that they reminded me why.

Yelp
Loving this place! So glad to have a solid take out place that does GOOD sushi in this city. Now I say good because let's be real, it's not the best you'll ever have but it's good considering where you are and how much it costs. My husband and I often will do take out if we're in the mood for sushi and hibachi but don't feel like venturing to South Hadley (Master chef duh) or NoHo for Osaka. The hibachi dinner is fantastic. Generous portion of miso soup, your protein, veggies (I would love there to be more) and rice. It comes with 2 dipping sauces, a soy based and a mayo based both of which are delicious. The service is quick and we never have to wait more than 20 minutes, even on a weekend night. Friendly staff when we go inside to pick up as well. It's a clean space with minimal decor, more of a stop by for a quick bite or just pick up and go home. Overall, we are glad to have this in our city!

Yelp
So I tried them again bc I was hungry and doing laundry. It was good. I order 09 daily special. For 7.99 i got rice, veggie lo mein, 4 chicken fingers and crab Rangoon I think 4. I ate them so fast I don't know. I honestly want a large Rangoon and lo me in now. Those were good.

Nicole S.

Yelp
We just had a X-mas eve dinner at Hibiscus, and we're so glad we tried this new place. Three of us- two omnivores and a pescetarian- had shumai appetizers, Chinese food, sushi, and tea. All of us were impressed with our dishes. The steak in the steak udon was tender, veggies crispy, noodles chewy & perfect. The chow mein was light, crispy, and a good mix of veggies. The sushi was fresh, tasty, and our sushi-eater gave it two NOMS. The layout was small and simple, but local-Mom said it's brighter and more open than Golden China was. Vegetarians will like the variety & freshness of veggies served. Table service was friendly and fast.

Sam P.

Yelp
Food definitely didn't tast or seem fresh. The egg rolls were dripping in grease that I could squeeze it out. Just definitely doesn't seem like quality food. Won't be trying it again.

Yelp
We decided to have a Chinese food today. I placed the order and I specified in the order that we want a deliver! I gave my phone number, building name and room number. I received a call from a deliver person after 45 minutes. This person told me that he was in the parking lot and that he didn't do delivers to rooms. (I would like to mention that my work place has more than 20 parking lots). So I told to the delivery person that he could bring the food to switchboard, he insist that he doesn't deliver to rooms. Then, I told him if he can't deliver to switchboard is better to cancel my order. "He decided to cancel my order". We never had this problem with any other restaurants in the Holyoke area because they understand that in work places the lunch time is limited to 1/2 hour or 1 hour and we can't expend this time looking around in the parking lots for a deliver person. If you work in a place that has rooms and planning to order deliver from this place you will end up starving and being angry.

Orlando G.

Yelp
I've gone to this restaurant many times, and I can never get enough of the amazing lunch specials (Favorite a D1). The lady is extremely nice and the environment is just simply soothing. It's comfortable and modern which is great. Their sushi is so wonderful especially the Shrimp Tempura. I also LOVE their Crab Rangoon ! Best I've ever had. I highly recommend this place.
