The 12 Best Mexican Restaurants In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"From sunrise to sunset, Hidalgo’s is an outstanding restaurant. It opens at 6am to feed Homestead workers heaping plates of chilaquiles, eggs, and refried beans. At lunch, gorditas and tacos fly from the kitchen on crowded trays. These are all great, but if you want to impress someone who claims Dade County doesn’t have great Mexican food, order the bubbling molcajete filled with steak, shrimp, and chicken. The restaurant is family-run, perfect for all three generations of your household, and our favorite place to get Mexican food in the county." - virginia otazo, mariana trabanino, ryan pfeffer

DEAD FLY cooked in with my bean... I thought was a burnt bean and didnt touch it until the end i saw a flake protruding from the burnt bean so I picked it out and put it and a tissue and dry it out and I realise it wasn't a flake but a wing attached to a dead fly that was cooked in all burnt up ... never eating here again.

Walking into Hidalgo’s felt like I got transported straight to Mexico 🇲🇽 the colors, the vibe, the music, everything felt authentic. The food? Incredible. From the tacos to the cheesy queso fundido, every bite was packed with flavor. The horchata was smooth and refreshing too. What really stood out was the service super friendly, fast, and they made us feel right at home. Definitely coming back. If you’re looking for a real Mexican spot in Miami, this is it.

Came in on a Saturday at 11am… Took 30 minutes to realize the table next to me got their food before mine…. 30 minutes for a breakfast burrito? Btw the burrito was no joke the worst I’ve tried. I threw it away! don’t come here! I suggest going down the street to “Puerto Vallarta” … para la señora que tardo en mi burrito, te dije que iba dejarte un review

Google
The food is great and service is excellent. The place is nothing fancy but it’s clean and feels homey. That was my wife speaking… this place is an amazing addition to South Florida. one word to describe: AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD. Yum!!!! The michelada is 👍🏽 🍺

Google
This is an amazing hidden gem, of Authentic mexican food and 🍺 selection. The queso frito was da 💣. My birtia tacos were 🔥. Price point is unseen in da 305. An OG place. Definitely making the trip south again.

Byron Ortega

Google
The quality of the food is just the best, from outside it doesn't look like a great place, but when you get in you travel to Mexico. Not crowded on Sundays. The have a small market with traditional Mexican snacks.

Google
The food is delicious as always. I always order las steak Gorditas. We also get the chicken gorditas. El Agua de Jaimaica drink is amazing and Tamarindo too. They have TouchTunes machine so that you can play the music of your choice. The service is fast and on point.

Google
The restaurant is clean enough. I ordered a cafe con leche which was very good. Pretty similar to what you would get in Mexico it brought good memories! The gorditas con frijoles y queso were too thick for my liking and had very little filling so the masa overpowered the other flavors. In Mexico gorditas are usually smaller and are very well packed with the filling and the masa (dough) is soft, this masa was a bit too hard for my taste. The chilaquiles were good. The salsa was medium spicy and had good taste. Nothing extraordinary but also not bad. The tacos were not good at all. The meat was greasy and tasted old, we didn’t eat them. However, the side of beans was really good. They have a salsa bar and I had their red salsa which was full of flavor and very spicy which I look forward at a Mexican place. Overall this place is ok but would not be my first option if visiting the area. They had a sign at the door they are looking for a cook so that is perhaps what happened because I saw so many good reviews about the place but unfortunately it wasn’t my experience. The waitress was really nice and the food came out quickly.

Yelp
I ordered from this restaurant on door dash and it was pretty good. I know with delivery things aren't as fresh, usually, but everything came steaming hot. I ordered the Al pastor sopes and the Molcajetes. The molcajete was good, but the beans had a bit of a funny taste and some of the rice grains were hard. The sopes were really good and crispy. I would probably order again.

Yelp
If you like or should I say are in love with authentic ethnic food, especially Mexican. Don't walk, don't jog, run here and bring your girlfriend, because the portions are huge. If you're a DeVry grad or a Republican, I don't think this place will tickle your fancy. Thank the great God Quetzacoatl that Snooki brought me here.

Yelp
food was so good, food came out fast. waiter attended to us very fast and brought the food out quick. the restaurant style is very culturally outgoing. i recommend coming here for sure.

Yelp
If you want real authentic Mexican food this is the place to come and have breakfast. Very friendly family oriented and the service is great. A back to the home land culture feeling. The coffee is the best just like abuelita does it back in Mexico. If I can give it 10 stars I would.

Yelp
This is one of those hole in the wall kind of places. The area in general doesn't have much around but we were lucky to stop in to give it a try and wow it was delicious. This is probably the most authentic Mexican food that I've had in south Florida. I ordered the chilaquiles which had everyone else at the table wishing they had ordered the same. Not to mention, for the price, there was sooo much food! I would definitely return if im ever in the area and I recommend it to anyone looking for real Mexican food and not the Americanized version.

Yelp
Las enchiladas Rojas y verdes en este lugar son terribles, no tienen sabor y amargan, lo peor que probe
google avatar

Yelp
It was Cinco de Mayo and wife & I went to Homestead for lunch. We typically go to Puerto de Vallarta but wanted to try something different. I had the mole rojo, wife had enchiladas. The food was ok, although I was disappointed that the mole chicken was a leg, as opposed to a breast. I should have asked. The enchiladas were pretty good. We had leftovers which we left on table when we went to the bathroom. When we returned they had cleared the table and threw our leftovers in the trash, thinking we had left. You'd think they'd hold it for at least 10 minutes. The prices are the same as Puerto de Vallarta. I suggest going there (right down the block) for a better experience; we will next time.

Yelp
I'm soooo happy I found this place. I love authentic Mexican food, especially the breakfast. It's so hard to find Mexican food that isn't whitewashed but this is your new place if you're looking for 100% authentic Mexican food

Yelp
Full house on a Friday night but no wait to be seated . Since it was pretty busy did take sometime to get our food . But again it's a Friday night , that's expected . Waitress was attending . Horchata was REALLY good. First time trying it and I loved it. Got the "bistec a la mexicana" meat is really savory . Hubby got the enchiladas verde chicken they were okay , a bit greasy. Also got chips And pico de Gallo , it's REAL Spicy . 4 stars just cause eh not really a Mexican food fan or maybe just cause I wasn't expecting the dish of food I received (probably should've googled it first -my fault lol)
google avatar

Sherry W.

Yelp
This place is very authentic. Our server spoke perfect English. There were man Mexicans dining the day we were there, which is always a good sign. They bring you chips and pico de gallo. If you request more, it cost $1 (they did not tell us this). The corn tortillas on the tacos tasted fresh. The tacos are topped with onion and cilantro. The pinto beans did not have much flavor. The meat was flavorful. I had the barbacoa, steak, and pork tacos. The pork taco comes with pineapple. They have a salsa bar. Be careful....the sauces are very HOT. We ordered a horchata to cool off our mouths! The horchata is made with rice powder. There is a TV showing sports. There are Mexican goodies by the front counter for purchase. There is a small attached parking lot.

Yelp
Comida es terible. Las porciones son ridiculas para el precio y encima de eso comida sin sazon y las tortillas de los tacos estaba fria y dura. No lo recomiendo. Food is awful. The portions are ridiculous for the price and on top of that the food without seasoning and the tortillas were cold and hard. I do not recommend it.

Anthony B.

Yelp
Tacos were OK everything else was bad. The food has no flavor. Will definitely not waste my gas and time coming back ! The ambiance was ok and the service was meh Only reason they got a 2 star was beacuse of the tacos

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic Mexican experience, this is the place to go to. My Mexican friend told me about how the food here reminded her how her dad and even grandmother made Mexican food years ago when she was growing up. Not only is it good and a very authentic experience, but your wallet will definitely be grateful. Very inexpensive location. We got 4 tacos, menudo, drinks, 6 tamales, another order of menudo to go, and we spent just over $40 Certain restaurants serve menudo only on certain days, this place serves it everyday and makes a fresh batch every morning starting at 5 am when they open. They're very open to requests and suggestions. I asked if they would mix chorizo with their refried beans and they said that's totally fine. They'll do pretty much anything off menu if they have the ingredients. We had three crunchy tacos and all were delicious. Barbacoa, chorizo, and al pastor (pork). They serve it with refried beans and rice which was also prepared fantastically. I had all that with an extremely refreshing glass of horchata that was TOO good. We also had the menudo which had a great spice to it, really warms you up and may even cause some tears and a stuffy nose. We even asked about their molé and they actually gave us samples!!! Fantastic little restaurant/cafe. Highly recommend if you're looking for a nostalgic experience or if you're completely ignorant of Mexican cuisine, then this is the place to check out!

Yelp
I've been ordering from this place the last few months. Really good enchiladas and gorditas - seasoned meat and homemade everything. Love it!! We use DoorDash or my husband picks up. Nice portions and great flavor

Yelp
Solid restaurant, the service was on point, and there was about 10min ticket time. I ordered the fajitas. If I lived out here I'd definitely frequent this place...

Yelp
This family run restaurant is all that and then some. The simplicity of the ingredients pack serious flavor. I've been coming here for years and not once had a bad experience. It's right off of US 1in a bright orange color you just can't miss! Inside there's traditional Mexican artwork throughout and tables for seating. It's not so big but enough space to leave you comfortable. They also sell Mexican goods like seasonings, candies, and my favorite Mexican ice cream(try the coconut). They have Mexican sodas in a variety of flavors(piña is my favorite) along with other sodas and beverages. We've had different meals here like the chicken mole complete with rice, refried beans, and fresh homemade tortillas. That mole seasoning is everything and doesn't cover the flavor of the well seasoned chicken. The chips ( they have tri-color now) and made from scratch guacamole is serious!!!!! Our favorite dish are definitely the tacos though. The chicken and steak to be exact. Both are seasoned to perfection, hand made corn tortillas prepared in the kitchen and just simple onions and cilantro to top it. Just those ingredients alone pack a serious flavor, I love it! And let's not forget the red hot sauce. The heat plus that flavor!!!!!..whoa..let's just say even though your tacos come with the sauce for free,we always buy a cup for about $5! Trust me, if you love tacos and want great ones,Hidalgo is a MUST !!!!!!!

Yelp
I've been here twice (both times were far apart since I always like to try new places). Both times I came the food was yummy & the service was great!! There was one difference when I came this past weekend the entire place was renovated. It looks so great for a small mom & pop, it's a hidden gem off US1 (don't judge a book by it's cover or in this case the "area") It's been a little chilly this Christmas & I know they do Atole Champurrado de Chocolate so I had to finally try it....it was yum I'm a sweet tooth so although I do wish it was sweeter, it is how it should taste. The huevos Mexicanos were a great breakfast & the tacos yum (they use authentic Mexican cheese on the tacos). All around very delicious, friendly & fast service. I'd try it out if I were you. #Supportsmall #Familybusiness

Yelp
This is an excellent taco shop. The food is reasonably priced and the service is friendly and efficient. Lunch for 2 with an enchilada platter, three tacos, soda, bottle of water and two fruit paletas for dessert was only $27. Free pico de gallo and chips as well as a well stocked taco bar. Amalia our server was friendly and very attentive. We will definitely return again and again. Why go to a chain restaurant when you can have the real deal?
google avatar

Wendy M.

Yelp
Still so goooood! Barbacoa tacos and horchata-I don't ever eat other dishes because I love them so much!!
google avatar

Carlos P.

Yelp
Total garbage. Old tortillas, no sauce. Delivered through door dash. No meat in my steak burrito and my other order arrived like it was made in a blender. You are better off eating at Taco Bell & that's hard for me to say.
google avatar

Louis F.

Yelp
it's a very small place. Probably enough seating for 20 people or so. We ordered 2 very simple things. 2 steak tacos and a burrito. The tacos came out plain. Just the tortilla and steak. There is a little buffet station where you pout on some extras, but, there was not much there. No cheeses or tomatoes at all. The burrito looked ok. But while eating it, I came across pieces of really hard chicken and chicken bones. I don't believe I will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
This place! This is your definition of no fuzz Mexican food. I live two minutes away and every time I crave Mexican food this is my go to spot. The food is delicious and cheap. My go to are the carnitas tacos but if you are extra hungry the gorditas are the obvious choice. It's in a very odd corner of US1 parking is not comfortable or spacious. You will not get five start restaurant service but everyone is always nice. I usually carry out and they are always correct with my order. They also have a condiment station which I love! And there is this spicy thick red sauce that burns soooo good! I would definitely recommend!

Rose R.

Yelp
Unfortunately I have to give this place a one start. I drove all the way from Miami to find an (close to) authentic Mexican restaurant. Being that I am Mexican and know authentic Mexican cuisine I was excited to try this place. 1- The entire time we were there the place was empty yet the food took about 30 minutes to arrive. 2- When we did get our food, it was not good. The green chilaquiles were incredibly acidic, they had too much tomatillo. The red ones didn't really have a taste. They were a bit oily. 3- I will say that the picó de gallo was good, the chips were average. Their red salsa was very spicy, I liked it. 4- Also the waitress was courteous so as far as customers service it's ok with the exception of the time the took to bring our food. I dont think I'll make the effort to drive down here to try it again. My hunt to find a good Mexican restaurant continues...

Yelp
Stopped in for supper. Was a little confused at first when they brought out the three toned chips with what looked liked a nice homemade salsa? I had the pork ribs with nopales and my husband had a tamale and araboacoa tacos. Wow!! Absolutely delicious. Savor each bite for the complexity in the sauce. Starts one way and ends another. You can taste the char from the grill to the vegetables followed by the slight heat. Very well done and happily surprised. Servings were standard and the service was attentive. A little spotty with the English but everything got across alright. We are looking forward to trying this place again when in the area. Was even able to leave with a few goodies to replenish my own spice cabinet.
google avatar

Yelp
excellent food , service , very clean restaurant and i gotta say the have the best caldo de res around , definetly a must try in the homestead community

Dan B.

Yelp
Great place to eat lunch l, the chicken quesadillas were awesome. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food I suggest you visit. It's small place but totally worth it. I will make sure to return. Went with my mother in law and she loved it as well, she had the Mexican steak and also ate all of it.
google avatar

Bebita Q.

Yelp
We wanted to try something different and decided to give the restaurant a try. WE LOVED IT! Prices are affordable and the food is delicious.

Yelp
1 they charge for chips and salsa 2 the enchiladas tasted like nothing 3 I should have gone to Ernesto's My search for flavorful Mexican in South Miami continues
google avatar

Lacey M.

Yelp
Dude, I dig it. $8 for three massive tostadas with chicken and beans? Not to mention they were fresh, light and delicious. Three stars for being sketchy--although that's possibly just the bonafide Homestead charm I've come to expect from this area code. Maybe it's authentic? This gringa has admittedly never been South of the border, but the dining room leaves something to be desired. And I was completely alone. Have I stumbled upon a hidden treasure? Or was I not supposed to go here? Hopefully the Cartel will overlook my sudden torta cravings if I sneak in here once a month or so.
google avatar

Lydia M.

Yelp
I was looking for a quick stop to eat. The parking is minimal, and too close to the street. The food was bland and very greasy. I had the beef tacos and there was a puddle of grease on the plate. The bean and cheese dip with jalapenos barely had cheese. The pico de gallo was great but room temperature. The staff was nice but they were not attentive, and every time we needed something we had to get up from the table and look for the waitress. I will not be going back!
google avatar

Acc C.

Yelp
Though limited menu, staff is friendly, speaks both English and Spanish. Takes credit cards. Parking limited but Post Office across the street. Cafe Con Leche & Empanadas were tasty.
google avatar

Eduardo O.

Yelp
I drove south about 25 mins from my home in South Miami with high expectations of amazing Mexican food. Being Mexican myself I had been disappointed by other experiences and was told homestead was the place to go. Unfortunately, this was nothing less than disappointing. The service was friendly, however, the food preparation took about 30 mins with us being the only patrons in the restaurant. The chilaquiles were absolutely terrible, unseasoned, and flavors resembling nothing close to the Mexican cuisine I have grown accustomed to. Unfortunate.

Gloria A.

Yelp
Awesome menu choices! Everything I've tried so far has been delicious. Hidalgo's is definitely a gem. Small place but omg so much flavor in everything! Menudo and caldo de res on point!
google avatar

Alfredo G.

Yelp
A great little place to taste authentic mexican cuisine with no crowds! Try the carne asada with rice and beans. A family oriented place.
google avatar

Tee M.

Yelp
I prefer to go a few feet down to Puerto Vallarta. The service was nice, but the food wasn't all that. Cute little spot though.

Luis G.

Yelp
Great Family Restaurant with Amazing Food! Stop by and try this place you'll be glad You did.
google avatar

Carmen R.

Yelp
Little whole on the wall with great homemade food. i had chicken tacos with guacamole, which was fantastic!
google avatar

Jose-adan G.

Yelp
This is a hidden Jewell. Nothing fancy, but the food is authentic. Makes me feel like I stepped back in time and I'm in a small Mexican town every day restaurant. Friendly service and although the menu is limited, the food is delicious.
google avatar

Oscar E.

Yelp
We came here on a recommendation from Juan, a worker at a plant nursery. What a fantastic place. The dining room is small and cozy and the food is fresh and delicious. We had three dishes and they were all flawless. The gorditas al pastor were the stars of the show though. Best meal we've had outside of Mexico. Thank you!!
google avatar

Enrique L.

Yelp
Nope. Just nope. I got a hot limonada in a questionable cup, my tacos de carne asada were really de barbacoa, and worst of all - I was given a cup of recycled guacamole... I mean someone else ordered guacamole, and didn't finish it... I was the unhappy recipient of a freshly stirred 1/3 cup of guacamole. Never ever, ever again.

Steve H.

Yelp
This place is decent. When I'm hungry and passing by I'll order to go. It seems quite authentic. The drawbacks are that, for the area it seems a bit pricey ($17+ for 6 tacos), and on top of that they are stingy with the hot sauce. 6 tacos gets you 2 - 1oz? containers. Then you pay, if you want more (the hot sauce is good). Even though the place is dated, they are fairly consistent. If you're in the area on the weekend, you're better off going to the back of the flea market, great food and great prices. And maybe Mariachis to go with you're people watching. (park on the South side) North is loco

Rohit D.

Yelp
Nice and small cozy Mexican place on highway 1. Had the vegetable enchiladas and fajitas. Amazing food and service.

sofia M.

Yelp
No AC $9 menudo that had no hominy and was just watered down soup. The tacos came plain and no fresh onions or cilantro. 8.99 for 3 tacos dry rice and beans. Aga de tamarindo is more like Agua con azucar. Great assortment of candy but that's about it. Very underwhelmed

Samira H.

Yelp
Delicious!! Very authentic Mexican food. Service was good, but my husband and I were the only guests.
