Hidden Bar HTX Review - West University - Houston - The Infatuation

"If you pull on the nondescript wood-paneled door on the side of Norigami in West University, you’ll find a neon-lit bar where multi-color paper cranes fly overhead. At Hidden, you can sit on a stool and sip their bourbon-rum-Aperol signature drink served in a crane-shaped cocktail glass, or lounge on the couch with a glowing butterfly pea gin cocktail and a foie gras hand roll. Make a reservation—or stop by for Happy Hour—for a lo-fi beats playlist a nod to steak and eggs with minced, raw wagyu beef." - Julie Takahashi

Stumbled upon this hidden gem and it instantly became one of my favorite spots. The entrance is low-key, but once you’re in, the vibe is perfect—dim lighting, great music, and a chill crowd. The cocktails are creative and actually strong (not watered down like other places). Bartenders know what they’re doing and super friendly. Perfect for a date night or just hanging with friends without the loud chaos of a club. Definitely coming back.

This speak easy was 15 out of 10! The bar tenders were awesome and helped us pick what drink we would like based on our tastes! Hal, Thomas and Jake were awesome and we will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

Thomas and his playlist really brings this place to life! The drinks and experience were top tier. I didn’t get eat but my friend did and really enjoyed it. It’s such a vibe and will absolutely return. They are one of the few places that have an all day Monday happy hour which is perfect for those that get off late.

I almost don't want to do a review to keep this place a secret. The bartenders are super cool and skilled(shout out to andrew and thomas). The playlist was dope. Drinks are delicious. Will definitely be back

Hands down one of the best experiences I’ve had in Houston thus far! Make your way here for a casual experience, date, or hangout- you will not be disappointed! Drinks are fantastic and *pure quality*, environment/ambiance is on point, plenty of options for a few bites to eat if you are feeling peckish, and the location is a comfortable sit in. We had the pleasure of having Mr. Ronny as our mixologist- he knows his stuff!!! Extremely welcoming, amazing recommendations, and took great care of us throughout or experience. We will absolutely be back, time after time after time! I would love to share the menu, but respectfully, COME CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF :) ***Side Note***… The “Nice to Matcha” IS TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!!!

What a gem! This newly opened speakeasy is located behind an invisible wall-door of the Norigami restaurant. From the first step through the door, the atmosphere feels incredible and speakeasy-ish. Very stylish bar incl cozy sofa seating in the room. Very cool design elements like - handmade origami swan ceiling and wall murals. Also great bartenders and delicious cocktails. But the unique atmosphere trumps everything!

Yelp
We were out to dinner in Rice Village looking for a fun night cap when we saw Hidden Bar on Apple Maps. It's hidden inside of Noragami restaurant. It was poppin for a Thursday night and the DJ was playing great tunes! Cocktails were tasty and we ordered very generous caviar bumps. We took a few bartender recommended shots that were delicious. The bartenders were so nice and had great taste. I will absolutely be back for another night here. Great time. I can attest that you can leave your car overnight in their parking lot if you have too good of a time

Yelp
This is one of my classic get your popcorn ready reviews that I hate to write but it has to be done. I stopped by on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at 10:45 p.m. to be exact. They close at 11:00 p.m. (according to their Google page). Upon arriving, we were told that 10:45 was last call for drinks and since it was 10:46 by the time the hostess checked for us, they wouldn't be able to accommodate us. My response was really?! For one minute? The hostess went back and then a tall Asian gentleman (perhaps the manager?) returned. He told us that they actually had been closed for more than an hour due to the holidays. I then mentioned that it says they close at 11:00 p.m. He said they typically do but since it was the day before the holidays, they were closing early. I asked why they didn't update their Google page, it takes a matter of minutes, and he said well it's not an everyday type of thing. I said true but doing so prevents customers from driving to your establishment in vain as I did. At that point, he started just repeating himself. Zero accountability and zero compassion. The restaurant and bar business is a highly risky business. For a speakeasy to treat a customer in the way that they did was quite disappointing. Had he apologized, that would have helped ameliorate a crappy situation. It's common for restaurants in Europe to stay open well beyond their closing time if there are customers present providing business. In this case, they wasted my time due to operating as an inefficient business. The gentleman made the situation worse by the way in which he handled it. I'm the self-appointed king of speakeasies in Houston. True speakeasies are amazing experiences. Unfortunately, as the popularity of speakeasies have increased, new speakeasies have opened that have tried to capitalize on trends and for the "Instagram" crowd. Rather than sticking true to the true nature of what a speakeasy should be, they offer the opposite. Would Al Capone have denied me entry 15 minutes before closing time in Chicago during the Prohibition Era? I think not. Hidden Bar, you should stay hidden from existence if this is how you operate.

Yelp
Recently found this place with the girls and it was an absolute gem. This was a perfect hidden spot for a fun girls' night out or just a quick drink stop. The atmosphere is super cool and intimate, making it feel like you've stumbled upon a secret oasis. A big shoutout to our bartender, Hao--he was amazing! Not only was he incredibly nice and attentive to our group, but he also went the extra mile to make our night special. Hao crafted a unique shot just for us, and it was the best shot i've ever had. It was a spicy yuzu shot (if my memory serves me right), and the blend of the spice and citrus was something I've never experienced before. It was the perfect balance and left a lasting impression.

Yelp
We came for some pre-dinner snacks and drinks when they opened at 3 PM. We ordered the otoro sashimi, yellowtail crudo, and the shrimp skewers. The sashimi and crudo were our favs! Everything was really fresh and the otoro sashimi just melted in our mouths. The service was excellent-shot out to Ronnie for being so awesome! Ambiance was really nice too! I liked all the origami as decor. We will def be back!

Yelp
What a fun place! My husband and I stopped by last night for a couple drinks. The tall Asian gentleman waited on us. I asked him to make me a surprise drink, he asked me a couple questions and made me a delicious cocktail based on my answers. We had a blast chatting with him while we enjoyed our drinks. The venue is a small intimate place, really pretty. We only wish we had come a bit sooner so we could enjoy some sashimi, and definitely will next time.

Yelp
The hidden bar is a secret gem on the side of Norigami. The bar is small & intimate but cute and the drinks are 10/10. All my friends enjoyed what they ordered. The bartender was clearly knowledgeable of their selection and what he could create and made our drinks pretty quickly. I mention this spot to dang near everyone I know when they're asking for recommendations.

Yelp
Vibes were oh so good! This place was super cool on a Friday night. We stopped here after dinner on a whim and thought it was cool that it was a speakeasy. We walked in and asked for the hidden bar. The hostess opened up a portion of the wall and ushered us in to a romantically lit little spot. The drinks were just perfect. We tried the paper crane, hidden old fashioned, mezcal Rita, and naked and famous. All were perfectly crafted with great aesthetics, aromatics, and taste. The paper crane drink even had a mini paper crane on it. The bartenders were cool and shared great conversation but knew when to let us talk alone. I should mention the bathrooms had cool toilets with a remote, options to bidet, and heated seat. I love this spot!!

Yelp
Hidden Bar is located inside Norigami. The small bites were super yummy; I'd recommend the wagyu skewers, spicy edamame, and salmon nigiri. The drinks were great as well, as I love cocktails with Asian-inspired flavors. It has a nice intimate feel, and there are a couple booths that make it a nice place to hang out with friends.

Yelp
If you're looking for Hidden Bar, enter through Norigami, NOT through the urgent care. Not saying I did, but I definitely thought I was supposed to! Once you enter Norigami, Hidden Bar can be found behind the wall to the right side. Once you walk in, it's like stepping into a whole new world. The space is small. There are only a few booths with open seating and a few bar stools. The ambiance is sleek and mysterious, and the drinks are top-notch. Our bartender Hau was amaaaazing--he crafted every drink with such care and skill. I'd follow him to the ends of the earth.

Yelp
I absolutely love the vibe of this place. It's a speakeasy located inside of the Norigami restaurant. They don't take reservations but the inside is quite spacious with bar seating and a few booths. The decor is also super cute with hundreds of paper cranes hanging above. My friends and I came on a Saturday night just for drinks but eventually couldn't resist ordering some of their bar bites. My first drink was the Yamaneko which was cachaca-based with spiced asian pear, rhubarb, and coconut. It was my first time trying cachaca but all of the ingredients together made for a refreshing cocktail. The bartender even added a cool smoke bubble on top. My friend ordered the Nice to Matcha, a rum-based cocktail with matcha and pandan. I normally don't gravitate towards rum but her drink tasted like a dessert. Our bartender that night was amazing, had great attention to detail, and even gave us a sneak peek on a few drinks he was working on. I'm hoping the Hidden 85 makes an appearance on the menu soon! The bar bites we ordered aren't your typical bar bites but they were delicious nonetheless. Since we didn't dine at Norigami that day, we at least got to try some of their food. The hamachi crudo had truffle and bits of fried garlic which I enjoyed. The scallop was refreshing. The wagyu skewers were fatty and tender. Overall, I'm glad we stumbled upon this place. I've already recommended it to a few of my friends and can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Love love LOVE the origami cranes on the ceiling! So pretty and fun. They have a good selection of Japanese whiskey. I had the Periscope cocktail, which was good. The bartender put extra hearts in it for Valentine's Day. Overall a fun date spot!

Yelp
Place makes a solid cocktail. We went for happy hour on Memorial Day and at points were the only person in the bar. Note all day HH on Sundays. The HH snacks were tasty. Pork belly was quite good but the spicy edamame was amazing. The bartender was engaging and had a good conversation. The place had a cool feel but I assume it can get quite busy on Weekend evenings. Nice date night place.

Yelp
I love little places like this! I'm from out of town and after yesterday's storms finding a place for mocktails before a rehearsal dinner was challenging, so glad that everything aligned for us to walk in here. The service is great! The bartender went above and beyond to make us mocktails to our liking and surprised us with amazing flavors and flaming drinks. The bar is decorated really cool too. I love all the origami cranes and the pink lights. The prices seem fair too. And the sashimi is amazing as well!

Yelp
We went and had about 3 rounds of drinks. They all had a Japanese theme to them. My boyfriend and I absolutely loved all of them, the best one hands down was Nice to Matcha. The bartender Paul was absolutely amazing to us and very nice. He recommended me to try a drink I never had before and he executed it perfectly. 10/10 experience, the vibe was nice and chill, very cute. We will definitely be back!

Mark M.

Yelp
When the backbar has lots of amaro's and liqueurs, you know they will have some fun cocktails and Hidden Bar delivered. The bartender knew his stuff and was helpful at directing us to a couple enjoyable cocktails that we had not had before.

Yelp
Awesome surprise! This is the bet babe Houston! Cole is the bar trendier tonight and she makes the best drinks. Food was great too. What a great setting!

Yelp
If you told me to go to a bar in a restaurant in a strip center next to an Urgent Care - the answer would be NO. Fortunately I didn't know that is where I was going when the evening started, and I'm so glad I didn't. Legit craft cocktails and a great vibe. I will definitely go back.

Yelp
Such a cool bar with great bartenders, amazing drinks and the food sounds tasty but we had already eaten so didn't try it this time!

Yelp
Just walk into Norigami and ask to go to the bar. My fiancée loved their Espresso Martini.

Yelp
Amazing bartender, magical drinks, superb customer service. I have never had a bartender cater so well and specifically to what I was looking to drink. The drinks are elaborate and delicious, I would be here every time I wanted to go to a bar if I lived in the area.
